Artes still layed in an exauhsted sleep, niether twitching or stirring. He was past his dreams, into the deepness of unconcious slumber. He was oblivious to all around him, and it would probably take more than a light shake to awaken the forest child from his fatigue induced bliss.

For the majority of the flight, Dran was as self-absorbed as his companion seemed to be. Far below, the blurred landscape of greys and greens gradually gave way to the muted silver sheen of the Silver Sea. The surface looked calm and peaceful, like a clouded mirror, but Dran knew beneath the surface a multitude of creatures lurked. For a time his thoughts drifted in old directions, a series of what ifs that moved along a well worn circular path.
Dran's musings were interrupted by Zeal's comment. Lifting his head he looked ahead to view his new home. It was, well...big. A mountain, in fact. Very...rocky. And cratered. Like, a big rock with a crater in it. Judging by Zeal's reference, a new crater.
"Hmm, did something get hungry?"

Zeal's expression grew more patient as he deliberatly ignored the fae's impertinent, albeit amusing, comment. The hole wasn't that big but it was something that would take some getting used to. And as for what it meant and what Valden suspected... Let's go check on things inside. He leaned his body with Valden's shift in angle as they came in for a smooth landing on the main ledge. Zeal saw Kreen and jumped off Valden's back to land smoothly on the stone.
"What happened?" Zeal asked flatly and without preamble.
Valden nearly chuckled at the fae's unexpected humor but swung gracefully in for a landing at Zeal's request. The fact that Kreen alone waited for them could mean that it had been a good event that produced the crater but it could also mean the opposite. He was aware of Zeal's emotions and the truth behind his guarded manner but concealed even his own feelings out of respect and love. Artes must be asleep if he didn't hear my landing.

"Yesterday, you told me to keep an eye on Artes. He fell, and I gave him somewhere besides the sea to fall to," Kreen says equally flatly. "Additionally, I have begun doing what I can to improve his abilities, particularly his ability to concentrate. Oh, and by the way, I can't find the human. Who's the guest you have brought with you?"

Zeal knew that Kreen's directness would be something that he would give thanks for often in the future, when he had the time. Can't find the human? I seem to recall instructing Kreen to watch out for Rath as well, and more recently than Artes. It seems that I cannot expect one person to care for two others at the same time. That makes things more difficult. Artes still requires a significant amount of attention. Zeal's eyes closed for a moment and his voice took on a slightly weary tone that he was unable to suppress.
"If he isn't here then he's dead. No human could leave here alive unaided. As for Artes, continue training him but try to avoid causing further collateral damage. Mountains cannot be feasibly repaired."
Zeal turned back to look at the very odd fae that he had brought back with him and turned toward the lair's main entrance without speaking. He walked away until the shadow of the opening was nearly touching him and then stopped. His shoulders were straight but the tension in them was visible. While he concealed his emotions abnormally well for a human they still made their presence known.
"He never introduced himself and neither did we. He was involved in an incident that involved the deaths of a number of humans within the Fae Swamp of the Fae. It looked like a suicide squad. Keep him away from the lair, Kreen. He'll be staying for awhile so show him around the rest."
Without another word Zeal walked into the Lair, Valden following without a word. The concealed concern on his draconic features and the guarded nature of his silence conveyed clearly enough that neither he nor Zeal were to be disturbed for the time being.
((Valden's part coming soon.))

Dran eyed the unfolding events with interest, slipping down from the dragon's back before it walked after the human. Standing on the rocky surface he studied his surroundings, especially the fae with the direct manner that had addressed the dragon-rider. Some aspect of the fae seemed familiar to him, but nothing in particular surfaced. "Greetings, I am Dran. What brings you to this isle of rocky exile?"

Kreen's golden red eyes flick to the newcomer, assessing him. Probably a capable fighter, this Fae is an unknown quantity. No matter. Such things are hardly new to him. "Perhaps those who are exiled, both self-imposed or otherwise, instinctively gather together. Perhaps they wish to wash away their sorrows with companionship. I have no need for such things as I forsook them long ago when I took the name 'The Dying Breath', but I have been asked to perform a service nonetheless," he says, then turns toward the opening to the dormatory and begins to walk in that direction. "Come; should you stay here you will sleep in this chamber."
((By the way, the Dying Breath is the best assassin in living memory and always targets the overlords in Arrogans. There's a good chance any random person who's been to an area with humans would recognize it from their idle conversation.))

As he turned to follow the fae, Dran's thoughts turned to the title the fae had labeled himself with. The Dying Breath...Dran remembered a time some years ago when he was on solo patrol duty in areas of the Fae Swamp bordering human lands. He had run across a few human trespassers, a small band of down-on-their-luck mercenaries on the run. Dran had originally planned to eliminate them as a warning, but something about their attitude suggested a different method. They were grizzled veterans, heavy with muscle and experience, but something was eating away at them.
Late at night he had spent some time listening to their conversation. From what bits and pieces he'd overheard, they had been highly paid expert guards for one of the notorious human warlords. This warlord had drawn the attention of an infamous fae assassin known only as 'The Dying Breath'. The guards never even saw the assassin, but their failure to protect their employer cost them their job and their security, as his successor exiled them on the spot. Afraid to enter fae lands, not daring to re-enter human lands, they eked out a living on the edge. After following them for a few days Dran had gone his own way. Their almost superstitious fear of the fae assassin was to the advantage of the fae, the small band was no threat.
Speculatively, Dran eyed the fae in front of him as he padded silently after him. Perhaps he could learn something here...

To say that Zeal was worried and confused would be an understatement. Something was going on that he did not understand. Warriors do not like that. His stride lengthened and slowed the farther he got from the entrance and his bow to Mirage's inattentive form was a distracted one. I need to think. No more forays for awhile. He walked slowly into his own chamber and sat against the wall, bowing his head and closing his eyes.
Valden followed his partner as quietly as possible. All too aware of the numerous possibilities that this newest development could indicate, he stayed behind Zeal and then stopped, watching silently as he walked into the greatest solitude that he could ever have again. All that I can do for you is to quiet my mind as much as I can. He walked to his mate's side and curled up on the stone beside her without speaking, his eyes toward the doorway. Then he watched with his heart and mind. While Zeal's body was in the posture of sleep his mind was racing. The new fae, whatever his name is, and the dead humans. The thoughts and possibilities ran through Zeal's head so fast that even Valden could only barely perceive them. Humans truly do have far more powerful instincts than even we do. They are speaking to you more powerfully than reason is. He sensed a kind of mental smirk and answered with a soft chuckle before the two minds began looking at the recent events together.

Kreen walks, totally silent in his motion, into the communal sleeping room and gestures to his own bed in the back and to the one Artes is sleeping in. "Those two are occupied. Choose any of the others." With that, he walks toward his own bed and wipes away the ineffective-by-design trap he laid there. Its purpose has been served for now, and this other Fae, assuming he knows anything about the arcane magics, could probably call him on it anyway. He turns about and watches the newcomer's next action.

Artes was disturbed in his sleep. He seemed to toss and turn. The nightmares were not stopping. The memories of his village were something harsh and vile that lingered in his head. The pictures, the the smell, the creatures!
With a cry of fear Artes bolted upright in a cold sweat, looking from the assassin and then to the new person. It did not register in his mind to be embarressed. He was far too frightened for any of that. Pictures still flashed in his head recalling fears and terrors that one would only percieve in the darkest of nightmares.

Dran followed the silent fae into the room. Something about the motion he used to smooth his covers seemed oddly familiar, but the memory would not surface. In the midst of examining his new surroundings, a sharp cry erupted from the occupied bed. Dran spun around, to see an apparently terrified elf glancing from him to the fae and back.
The oddity of an elf in the room with the foremost fae assassin in the world struck a chord of amusement within Dran. Eyebrow lifted sardonically, he asked "Are you alright?"

Kreen, without a word, turns his gaze toward Artes. Silently replacing the throwing dagger which appeared in his hand reflexively, his eyes narrow at the elf's state of terror. The Dying Breath approaches the elf and places a hand on his shoulder despite his dimunitive Fae stature. "Peace, elf. You are among allies." 'Friend' is too strong a word for Kreen to be prepared to use even at this time. Trust does not come easily to him.

Artes began to calm down somewhat, but he still breathed heavily. "I'm... I'm sorry. I guess I was dreaming about... about my village. Those creatures... stalk me in my dreams. I am sorry to have startled you."
Artes tried to shake off his fear, but it hung around him like a dark mantal. He diddn't move much except for his hands moving around his face.
