"Never discount an attack's significance," Kreen states, waiting for Artes to ready himself again. "Even an attack which has not been moved to a course which is dangerous to you can hold a hidden significance." As Artes readies himself, he once more fires off another pair of spells. One s a fireball which is aimed at the ground in front of Artes, but it is preceeded by a wave of heat aimed at the elf's chest.

he saw the ripple of the heat and moved to the side, out of the way of both strikes. This little action did not affect the rock at all.

Kreen, without any pause between his last attack and the next set, fires off a wave of heat, followed immediately by a fireball. Both of these are sent at the elf's feet. Abruptly, the Fae sends another fireball at the elf's chest, something which is not only previously unsignalled, but also does not fit with what he has been doing up until this point.

His eyes locked onto the ground, jumping away, back from the first strikes, but when he looked up, the heat overwhelmed him and he felt the fire upon his chest. He tried to pat it out quickly, so that his clothes would not burn. The rock fell and hit the ground. "Gah..." Artes's breath came heavy and hard. He didn't have the strength to stand up, and his brain pounded heavily. He tried to regain breath and air, but his breath was shallow. He fealt like he would pass out.

Kreen lowers his hand and steps forward to the elf, extending a hand. "You have progressed far this day. We will continue later." In reality, though Kreen would never show it, he is very tired as well. He would have stopped the exercise in another three or four rounds himself had his student not faltered.

Dran continued to idly examine the strange human as he perused the corpse. Too many things about this human made no sense. Of course, the attack didn't seem to make much sense either. A faint tickle nudged his mind. There was something strangely familiar about the human's winged companion, but whatever it was remained annoyingly elusive.
Standing, he stretched and motioned in the general direction of the dead human. "Did you find anything interesting? If not, I'd prefer to be going. The body will start to reek soon enough."

He grabbed the offered hand. "Th... Than... Thank you." He pulled himself up, barely able to stand. "I am sorry... sorry that I wasn't able to... continue." He was still unable to catch his breath.

"Learning is no crime," Kreen says, doing his best despite his small stature to pull the elf to his feet. "Were you able to work as long as I on your first attempt, I would have been surprised." Eventually succeeding in his task, the Fae releases his companion's hand and steps back. Looking about, he slowly begins to walk toward the cave which houses their living quarters.

He thanked the fae again and moved off, in a quite exhausted manor, to the cave. He had never worked so hard before. He could feel his head pulsing and throbbing with the mental strain. It really really hurt. Once he made it to his bed he was barely able to remove his upper body clothing before he flopped on the stone bed and fell into sleep.

((Sorry for the delay again. Finals are over and my job has begun so I should be able to keep up better now that my schedule is more stable.))
Zeal rose from his examination with a mask of calm covering his true feelings. This was a suicide squad. They expected nothing less than death. Moves like this cause dangerous ripples... He heard the fae's query but did not reply until he had crossed the space between him and Valden. "Yes and no. Did you kill him?" Zeal asked evenly. His eyes were locked with Valden's as their thoughts and joined ideas flowed together too quickly for words. However, the exchange lasted only a moment and, with a slight shake of his head, Zeal vaulted onto Valden's neck. He looked in the direction of the corpse again and precluded any reply with a distracted note in his voice. "In either case, it is time to go. Get on behind me if you're coming."
Valden watched and analyzed his surroundings, including the impatient and outwardly relaxed fae. Indeed, but that is a move that only a human would think of. Even monsters are not so wasteful. The fae's words triggereda flicker of direct attention from one of Valden's eyes. Human bodies don't start to decompose quite that quickly. I suppose that he is simply impatient. He met Zeal's gaze for the instant of intense communication and then lowered his head slightly to make Zeal's mount easier. Things are growing more complicated. I hope that politics don't get in the way of our plans. Valden did not bow for the fae. Their race had wings as well as a healthy ego. Patronizing them was never a very good idea.

Kreen once again enters the room which serves as a dormitory for the two of them. Climbing once more onto his bed, he sits down to actually sleep this time. He takes the same position he did before, leaning against the wall with one leg under him and the other upright and ready to push off, while his sword is in its sheath leaning against his chest. To an outside observer, there is no difference in what he does in the two situations, but in actuality the internal difference is quite pronounced. What Kreen did before was meditation, while this is actual sleep. Not only is it more restorative, but it is also an unknown gesture of trust in this place.
((And Haeo, do remember when Zeal and Valden return that the side of their home has a new crater in it. It seems like the kind of thing they'd notice to me.))

A faint flicker of amusement twitched the corner of Dran's mouth at Zeal's question. Alas, the time window for responding with deadpan remarks about potential humorous ways of falling and hitting one's head expired with Zeal's second comment. A simple flip, with the assistance of a hand lightly pressed against Valden's side, proved to be easily sufficient. A moment later, seated behind Zeal, Dran waited for Valden to move. Beneath his knees the hard yet supple scales proved surprisingly comfortable.

Zeal maintained the barrier around himself and Valden absently, holding it a hair's breath from their bodies. The unconventional manner of mounting that the fae used went unnoticed by him and he remained silent as Valden began the flight back to the Silver Sea, and home. He stared straight ahead through most of the flight without moving. His thoughts could only be guessed vaguely as he himself was unsure of their gravity or their specific subject. His mind and Valden's seemed to flow together amorphously, comparing notes in the most disorganized manner possible. Then Valden's wry notice that their home had been re-decorated brought him back to reality. There's a crater... in the side... of our mountain.
Zeal blinked, tilting his head to one side for a second.
"Why is there a crater in the side of our home?"
Valden noticed the odd manner of movement that this particular fae employed. His body is far more balanced than any fae that I have met, aside from that assassin. He smoothly lunged into the air, finding it quite a challenge to deal with the chaos in Zeal's mind and stay in the air at the same time. The land flashed by underneath and the wind howled past as they sped high over the earth.
The sight of the newly aquired damage to his home did not exactly please Valden but it did show that Artes and Kreen had productively used their time. Or perhaps there would be one or two fewer guests waiting for them. Well, one can hope that they have better control than that. Although, that human didn't seem to be very... intelligent. He began to have some small worry as he approached the mountain, circling it once to check for other damage.

Kreen rises from his position on the bed, walking from the dormatory and out onto the primary cliff overlooking the sea. It has been some time since he and Artes ceased their training, and he feels most rejuvinated, almost to the point before he did that spellbraiding to rescue his elven companion. Hm, so their host returns. Who is that with him on the dragon's back?
((I figure that Kreen would to the training almost continuously, so it would have taken maybe half an hour. Flying one way to Fae lands strikes me as something close to that, so it seems like this would be true.))
