Better... Zacharias didn't believe he could get "better." He smiled weakly anyway, appreciating the effort Thage was putting in to help him. His grip tightened on the doorknob.

"Why are you helping me?" he asked, an almost pleading tone etched in his voice. "Why me? Why are you so kind to me?" He was desperate now, anyone could tell. Hands shaking violently, the knob rattling under his touch, he hadn't noticed he had begun speaking in the ancient tongue. "Why me, why me, why me?!" Barely making a whisper, he let go of the knob. "I don't know what I should do..."

The small snake slithered in from beneath the door and moved to Zacharias's shoulder. It began to speak in the acient tounge as well." It is the lot of all who are born undead.. We are mixed in with two worlds with no place in either one. But with long life we go so far as to learn that or exicistance is not just for simple trivial things but for much greater. We can either be for good or evil it is our choice to make.. No one elses. You Zacharious have all the things in the world you need to know what to do. Follow your heart. Stay for one who has heard that you are in need and has seen that you are in need. For she will help you.. and you will know what to do."

Raven bit her lip when he offered to go with her. That was something she did NOT want. Her next destination was wherever Mary was if she could find her. Whether Mary was a slayer or not, she couldn't be sure, but she was certain it would be a bad idea for the two of them to meet up. A sigh of relief blew out of her lips when he seemed to decide against it on his own.

Raven made her way tenatively to the door, pausing briefly as the lady walked up to him. She stared at him curiously and though she saw a flash of red on his face. From yesterday, she remembered that James had cried blood, so she knew what that was. Whatever grief was plagueing him, it was likely beyond her she decided. There was this feeling that that her knowledge of these people was infinitely limited. She was an outsider here, and while because he was a friend to James she wished him the best, she couldn't imagine she could ever be of any help to him. It was best that she leave, walk out the door and go back to her own life where she knew the rules and understood the people. When his hand fell from the door knob she moved forward to open it for herself.

"I am quite alright on my own thankyou," she said softly as she turned the knob on the door.

As she began to pull the door, she saw a snake come through the bottom and crawl up to Zacharias and appear to speak to him. "I'm just going to pretend I didn't see that," she thought to herself. Slowly, she pulled the door open and began to walk out. She stopped a second, thinking she should say at something.

"Th-thankyou for the wine, ma'm," Raven said to the lady then quickly she turned to the man. "And if perhaps you see James again, you should tell him to... I dunno...call rather than put you out next time." she smiled briefly and walked out the door.

Zacharias tried not to pay attention to Raven's retreating back. James was right, it was silly to dwell on such depressing thoughts when there was indeed work left to be done. He couldn't be certain of the future, but he suddenly felt more assured that he could find a solution. The corners of his mouth curled upwards, unnoticeable unless you were really looking. Ah America, he thought, you are much kinder than your mother.

He perked up when he noticed Raven had directed her attention to him again. Zacharias blamed his small sense of excitment on curiousity.

"And if perhaps you see James again, you should tell him to... I dunno...call rather than put you out next time."

Zacharias blinked. Call? And then it hit him. This was the 21st century with this amazing thing called communications technology. He laughed then, genuinely amused at his own stupidity.

User ImageThage sighed and smiled when Zacharias laughed. Perhaps the dark moment had past for now. She had listened to him speaking the ancient tongue, and had done a rough translation. Looking back, she should have spent more time studying her languages. She waited until Raven was gone and then stared Zacharias right in the eyes.

"I'm helping you because I like you. I don't know what is wrong with you....but I believe you are a good person Zacharias. Also, even though I have not known you for long you are a friend. Why wouldn't I help you?"

...Cut so deep I can't forget, loving you is my regret.

Zacharias opened his mouth to respond only to find that he had nothing to say. Thage's response alarmed him. He had always believed statements of compassion, righteousness, or even friendship belonged in fairytales -a world where he would never be a part of. Hell, even humans were more worthy candidates for recieving the gift of faith.

"I... what I mean to say is... that I..." he stuttered, stumbling over the words that seemed caught in the back of his throat. "Lord, help me. What I'm trying to say is thank you." Zacharias was starting to tear up again, he could feel it. Closing what little distance was between them, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and burried his face against her neck. "Thank you."

((little bit confused as to the layout of the club so, my apologies if I got this wrong))

Raven ran quickly down the steps of the club, the music growing louder as she descended nearly tripping only once on the last step. A quick look around oriented her and she made her way to the exit. As she passed under the door, she passed by one of the bouncers. There was something odd about him, but she didn't let that faze her she turned back to him.

"Did you see which way a blonde girl and a ma- I mean a vampire went?"

The bouncer listened to her thoughtfully and didn't seem to think the mention of a vampire an odd thing as Raven had worried he would. He did frown though, as if worried by her question.

"They went that way," he said pointing down the street. "But are you sure you want to-"

"Thanks!" Raven said, not allowing him to finish. She didn't want to hear anyone else tell her that her cousin was some kind of killer.

The odds of Raven catching up to them at this point were pretty slim. She felt she had to try, though. For one thing, Mary was drunk and with someone she didn't know and in a city she was new two. Additionally she was with a vampire, which could be bad if the vampire somehow thought she was a hunter. Maybe he would try to hurt her?

Then there was also this nagging in the back of Raven's mind. What if Mary was a hunter? Why did Raven think she wasn't? It certainly stood to reason that if there were vampires, there would be people who hated them, and who slayed them. If such a person were to exist, what would they be like? Strong, perhaps sneaky, even a little crazy. That was the sort of person Mary was, wasn't it. Still, Raven didn't like to think that all the time she had been with Mary, she had been making plans to kill someone even if that someone was a vampire. That just didn't seem right. She just knew that when she spoke to Mary again, that her worries would go away.

Pulling her jacket around her against the night chill, she quickened her pace down the street. If she didn't find Mary soon, she didn't know what she would do. If Mary had a phone, Raven wasn't sure she had the number. She would find her, somehow, just to be sure everything was... fine.

Mary walked out of the vampires apartment building began skipping like she was a school girl.. the thrill of killing a killer sent shivers down her spine.. she could hide this kill from her parents this was her own little play time they could go without knowing about. Mary slapped her forehead and pulled out her phone." I need to call her or she might be worried about me." Mary searched through her phone and clicked a few keys and waited for Raven to pick up." Come on cuz pick up."

James smiled and took Arrietta's hand." Follow me.. I know just the place to go.." James knew where their were tons of little hidden shops that stayed open late for late night readers that read all night most of them were old and musty but they held books of every kind that held authors that might not have been extremely well known but they wrote stories with more weight then the common age writters of the current century

Raven had been walking for a couple blocks, when she heard her cell phone ring. Stopping dead in her tracks, she swung her bag around and began rifling through the other things in there to get to her cell phone. After a minute, she found it and snatched it out. On the ID she recognized Mary's number. Not wanting to stand around on the sidewalk to answer it, she ducked into a store that still had its lights on. It was one of those 24-hour pharmacies and she placed herself by the outside wall and flipped open her phone.

"Damnit, Mary, where'd you go?" Raven said, sounding a bit more irate than she had intended to. "I heard you got thrown out, what happened?"

Raven had wanted to ask her this in person, she could tell if someone was lying much better if she could look at their face. Instead, she had blurted it out before she thought about it much. Mentally, she kicked herself for the slip.

Mary was a little bit shocked no one had ever been this worried about her and her shinanigans." Wow calm down.. He tried to get fresh with me on the way to another bar and I told him to get lost.. I smacked him under his chin with my stun brass knuckles and got out of there.. Im alright... and the thrown out thing I said something about the owner while I was drunk that one of the bouncers heard and told her about it and se threw me out.. that lady is crazy the guy was telling me she was some nut who thinks she's a fairy queen and she kicked me out for saying it rightout."

"Right, sorry... I just..." Raven stammered into the phone.

How could she explain to her cousin that she'd been worried because they told her she was a hunter. That the man she had left with was a vampire? She wouldn't, it was as simple as that. They were wrong, and likely as not, like Mary had said, the woman was a nut. Still, something worried her.

"You knocked him out? Just that easily?" Raven said suddenly.

She had been sure that man had been a vampire. It wasn't just because the fairy lady had told her so, it was that creeping feeling she got when she had looked at him. Just a quick hit with stun brass knuckles had put him out? That seemed so little when a whole clip of bullets had hardly fazed James.

User ImageArietta followed James willingly, and Shen walked slightly in front of her to further send the message that she should stick with him. She didn't say anything, but smiled at James' back. He seemed so kind, and to actually care what she thought and felt....her smile faded. People like him just didn't exist. So what was he after? Roughly she shoved the thought aside. If he wanted something, she would know eventually, and if he didn't she didn't want to ruin it.

User ImageThage was surprised at Zacharias' move, but wrapped her arms around him instinctively. As he buried his face in her neck she stroked his hair. He had such an extreme reaction.....perhaps he didn't have friends? That seemed strange since he was really nice. Thage stayed silent, she wasn't sure if words would bring comfort or pain.

((sorry for taking so long. College is into exams now >.< And the club layout was right ^^))

James knocked on the door of a musty old building and went in when the latch was removed. inside was a large room with bookshelves filled wtih books even stacks of books lay on the ground. An elderly gentleman smiled at them as they walked inside." Hello James.. here to pick up a few more books?" James smiled and nodded." Well here to look actually but if she wants one I'll put it on my tab." the old man smiled." What tab? you pay me every time you come in here.. And who is this beautiful young lady that your with? She must be much younger than you James what 2000 something younger than you?" James looked at him with a frown." A man of your age Gerald should know it is impolite to ask a young lady her age."

((Eh, no worries, Thage. I think this is around the time everyone starts getting busy whether it's finals, last minute projects, or holiday prep work.))

It was a bizarre thing -hugging that is. Zacharias never really had the chance to engage in such passionate displays back home. Oh no, just the sheer thought of his father standing over him and his date with a cane ready to crack over his head was enough to stop him from putting himself in a "compromising situation." But seeing as said father was miles away on a different continent, busy with work far more important than dragging Zacharias back to the courts, he saw no reason to fear. Feh, European Vampires were way too concerned about image.

Pulling away, albeit reluctantly, Zacharias beamed at Thage. "So, what now, my friend?" His smile brightened. That was the second time in one day he had used that word -friend -and the first time he had even considered its implacations in over five hundred years.
