My first poem in this forum... I do hope you all enjoy. This is a poem on war... inspired by a song I'm sure not many of you have heard called "Rooster." I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I did writing it.

War Song

Crack, pop, hiss.
What is left is burning bliss.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
What we will. What we must.
Before our eyes,
The ashes’ lies.
Our unseen foe,
Our perpetual woe.
Tongues of flame
Give utter blame
To the face
That wiped out our race.
Take up your arms,
Raise all alarms,
Call up your men,
To the lion’s den.
Here we will,
Where others still
Lie dying,
Electrifying
The night sky,
Screaming, “Why? Why?”
We take up our battle,
To replace the rattle.
And whilst we fight
With all our might,
At home they hear,
Awake with fear,
The sounds of war,
And scream, “NO MORE!”
They spit on us,
They make a fuss.
They start up trifles
And take our rifles.
They hate us now
And we wonder how,
They hate us all.
And when we fall,
They laugh at us with an evil frown,
They take their arms and beat us down.
When we finally make it back,
We rejoice in the news of a refreshed attack.
No going home for us now,
We get to die, “pow, pow, pow.”
But we crush them then,
So we take our men.
Home we march,
The country road starch
Contrast to the battlefield,
On which many lives did yield.
We enter town,
But there is no frown,
As we would expect,
But instead, respect.
We are greeted as heroes,
Not like the zeros
That we were when last here,
Which we did fear.
We were given
The gift of livin’
In stead of death,
A final breath,
Like the ones our brothers took
When they had their final look
At this place,
Such an intricate lace.
Now we can see
Our countrymen free.
Now they know
That our greatest foe
Was they,
Who made us pay
And not those we face
So far from this place
On that field of death,
Where our brothers took their final breath.

i really like this one... its really cool sounded...

Dante Deus
Passion flares, burns out the light,
Soldiers march into the night.
The fires of war light the sky,
their time is now, tonight they die.
Reds on reds, blacks on blacks,
their bodies thrown on roads and tracks.
Blood seeps beneath the surface,
never knowing what it's purpose
could have been if retained in veins.
What would have been, without the rains
of blood, and sweat, and heart, and soul.
What when war's thunder never rolled?
The men who died for this land,
united they die, united they stand.
They fight together, together at last,
but now the light is fading fast.
Appolo's chariot finds its place,
now our men quicken the pace.
Swords and sheilds, pikes and spears,
this is a war for the years.
Bones crumble back to dust,
we must remember, we must, we must.
The blood that stained this feild of white,
is a testament to their might.
Mighty Sparta faught not this hard,
breaking bone, shard by shard.
Until at last, the body breaks.
The soldiers falls and the earth shakes.
The last man fallen, it is done.
One survivor shouts, "We won! We won!"

Wow.. eek Your poems always did have the ability to shock with their excellence. Very, VERY good one. The rhyme really works well for this one. Your word choice and imagery astounding. Like many of yours, long, but doesn't lose it's flow. Overall, I very successful description of a war battle. So real...

You really are very good at depicting poems about war. But for some reason, with your poll up there, death/life is standing out at me. I won't vote in the poll until I have the chance to read the rest of your poems over again. Keep up the writing and I'm so happy you didn't leave!!

Thanks Isis. I figured that since the few people that cared showed they cared, I'd stay for their sakes. I'm finding new inspirations, and that's why I'm trying to expand my horizons and write on new topics... until something's decided upon, I'm going to continue to write on war. I'm glad you enjoyed that one... it has special meaning behind it for me. One of my cousins actually told me this story... it happened in Iraq... the one last man is him actually... at first I thought he was just making up a story to make himself sound big and bad... but then he showed me his medal and the tape from the imbedded reporter... it was crazy... everyone died... he was literally the only man alive... it was... terrible... he was actually shot three times and they sent him home... but yeah... that poem's about him and his story... that tape was my inspiration...

Right

Right, left
Right, left.
Boots pound pavement into oblivion.
Rifles clank.
Helmets shine.
Voices thunder.
We are one.
The body of our Lord are we.
His blood, our blood,
spilled on this field.
We're only doing what's right.
Right?
We're only doing what's right.
Killing in the name of our God.
We speak for thee,
Master of the Cosmos.
Our Great Deity,
unable to voice an opinion of his own.
We speak for thee.
We are thine hand,
stretched forth to chastise the world.
A closed fist we make,
bloody, covered in the gore of thine creation.
Now is the fall of man.
We're only doing what's right.
Right?

This is our struggle.
This is our fight.
God has no hand here.
We stand alone,
we alone must save our homes.
A wall we make,
we must stand.
Hold our grounds
protect our lands.
Our enemy's blood stains our hands.
His soul haunts our dreams.
Our thoughts are his spirit's dwelling place now.
Even if we win,
the price is so great.
Who will pay our debt?
Who will erase our sins?
Our blood mingles with theirs,
there is no change.
No difference.
Here, today, we have slain our brothers.
We're only doing what's right...
right?

I'm working on... well, I'd LIKE it to be an epic poem sorta deal. It's gonna be VERY long, and I want it to be a story. I'm thinking of opening with a summary of the story, but it's going to be interesting. I'm thinking about doing the summary through the commands of a Captain... but I'm not sure... let me know what you guys think, before I go and waste a LOT of time on something nobody's gonna read.

It is never a waste if you do it for yourself. I couldn't care less if anyone read either "Seasons of Our World" or "Ruins..." They are mine and I poured time and some effort into the first and fountains of emotion into the second....I'm proud of myself and that is good enough.

I haven't thought about making an epic, but those tend to be medium sized book length generally, if not longer.
All I can tell ya is good luck with that. Also, I suggest doing the summary through your eyes...your point of view. Place yourself in the situation and do what you would do. That is just me.

I already have a few stanzas of the prologue finished... and I've decided to do something interesting with this... so people will actually READ this sonofabitch. I'm gonna release it in acts... like, one part at a time. Hope you guys like it... I should finish the prologue either tonight or tomorrow!

Here's a poem that I wrote about... well... she USED to be one of my bestest of best friends... but she's dissapeared and dropped me like a used handkerchief... so I don't even know any more... I told her I'd never let anyone read it... but she's pretty much dropped me out of her life... I doubt she even still has it... so here it is.

Manifest Destiny

My mind races to a thousand places.
My body can’t keep the pace.
My heart falters.
I fall into darkness as my body falls apart.

My heart shatters, and I stand by.
I look on as the pieces are tread upon.
I refuse to believe.
I refuse to move.

But my Destiny makes me whole.
She picks up the pieces for me,
And puts me back together.
My Destiny puts me back on my feet.

She finds the tiny pieces of my shattered heart,
And makes me smile again.
My Destiny is my hero,
Saving me from myself.

My Destiny holds me up.
She lifts my spirits,
She breaks the bonds of trend.
She takes me from my path of destruction and sets me straight.

People say that ignorance is bliss,
But just knowing my Destiny is there
Brings a grin to my face…
Lightens my countenance.

Everyone tries to break
What’s already broken.
But Destiny puts it back together,
She puts me back together.

A shared laugh,
A common tear.
I feel her pain,
And her mine.

I know her happiness,
And she knows mine.
My Destiny picked up the pieces,
My Destiny saved me.

Broken and surrounded
I have no way out.
I've got to find a way.
I've got to run away.
I've got to fly away.
Away to better days.
Away to better days.

Broken and surrounded,
they've all stabbed me in the back.
Trust has fallen through,
I'm falling into black.
All around me, everything I see.
Nothing has meaning, it's all nothing to me.
I look deep inside myself, to see what I can see.
All I find is nothingness looking back at me.

Can't you hear the voices?
I don't know if we can take this...
What does it take to get by?
Demons growling in the dark,
and I've nowhere to hide.
Upon my soul there is a mark,
designed to divide.
Can't you hear the voices?
They are screaming your name.
You're running out of choices,
this is the end of your game.

All alone I build my walls,
I lock myself within.
Beside myself in sadness
no one will ever enter in.
I've set myself apart.
I'm hiding in the dark.
I'm no longer a part
of this world so cold and dark.
Death comes to me,
I greet him with my hands.
Of all the people in my life,
he alone understands.
