The Hero of Justice

He caught it most ungracefully, fumbling with it for a moment before he got a good grasp. He then focused on it, closing his eyes and forming a mental image in his head. "Levite" The rock shone for a moment as it slowly began to float upward, and taking Artes with it, as he clasped onto it, tightly.

Kreen pauses almost awkwardly, taking a moment to figure out what to say to his companion as he sheaths his sword.
"I have to say I am impressed with your versatility despite your lack of experience," Kreen says finally, taking to the skies alongside the now floating elf. "I expect that you will become a skilled enchanter with practice."

Artes blushed at the comment. "W-well thank you. Thank you Mr. Kreen." The rock dropped sudenly for only a second. "Ah! Uh, sorry, I lost concentration."

"And so concentration shall be the first of what you learn," Kreen says, coming to an easy landing on the ledge of the stone spire. He pauses, then slowly lowers himself to one knee. "But not yet...spellweaving is as tiring as it is difficult, particularly when working with so many. You will forgive me if I am forced to pause for a moment."

He landed dantily and then pushed the rock over the ocean and releasing a sigh. Immediately the rock plummeted to the waters. "No no, it's perfectly alright. I thank you that you intend to aid me with my enchantments. Really, that's vary gracious of you and I really do need it. Thank you, Mr. Kreen." He bowed low to the Fey, waiting for further instruction.

Kreen pushes himself to his feet slowly, stifling a grunt as he does so. With a sigh, he begins to speak.
"Lesson one...if you elves have come up with some method of spell braiding...don't do it," the assassin says, leaning up against the wall for a moment. He then pushes himself to stand straight, then starts to move almost (but not quite) unsteadily down the hall. "We will actually begin in about half an hour."

"I... I might be able to restore some of your strength for you, i-if you want!" He called after him. His mind then took a curious turn. Where was that other man? He hadn't seen him in a long time.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 05, 2006 4:37 pm

"I...would prefer that you not. I have experienced elven restoration enchantments previously, and I cannot say that it is any substitute for actual rest. Were I to accept your offer, I could easily cause injury to myself through overexertion without even realizing there was a risk involved," Kreen says. "Were we in combat it would be a far different matter, but we currently have effectively unlimited time with which to work."

"Yes, of course. Um... But do you know what happened to that human man? The one with the scythe? He... I have not seen him." Artes seemed to understand Kreen's reasoning, but now his face was all a question.

"I know not, though this is a small area. The only other place he could have gone is...down," Kreen says, settling down onto his bed in a sitting position, shifting his sword around to rest in his lap.

"OH MY GOODNESS! Do you really think that?" This comment seemed to set Artes off of his balance. "You say that so coldly! He 'is' a living being, after all! Surely one as inteligent as you has at least a little respect for life!"

"Kreen turns his golden-red eyes upward to gaze at Artes. He silently unsheaths his sword, laying it out on the bed in front of him side-by-side with the sheath. He then flicks his wrists, shortswords appearing in each hand. He also lays these on the bed in front of him. He then repeats that process six times and lays his throwing knives out in front of him. Each piece of equipment is immaculately cleaned, but each has also seen its fair share of combat. No blade is chipped, and each is freshly sharpened, and each weapon's binding has clearly seen use though none seems worn.
"Do you know my name, Artes? I am Kreen." The Fae's voice is soft, and his head is bowed as his gaze falls on his weapons. "The Dying Breath. The most skilled assassin in history sits before you." Kreen's gaze now rises to meet that of Artes as he continues, "I feel so little anymore, I wonder sometimes what it would be like..."

((By the way, The Dying Breath, if in name only, is quite well known for reasons stated in my profile.))

Dran noticed the shift in attention of the human facing him with concealed discomfort. The human and his dragon mount were unknown quantities, too much so to risk a confrontation at this stage. Relaxing slightly, he responded "The only gear I found was unmarked. Judging by its size I would expect that all assailants were humans. If you are truly interested, there was one intact body. It is not far from here, perhaps an hour's walk."

A smirk twisted the corner of Dran's lip "Or, perhaps a good deal shorter for you. Regardless, if you wish my assistance, now would be a good time. I have no wish to linger in the stinking border lands any longer."

Zeal's expression did not comforted by the knowledge that the attackers were all humans with unmarked equipment. This is bad. Such a small group wouldn't throw their lives away by entering Fae territory unless it was out of loyalty. Who would throw their warriors away like that... and why? Even with their lack of battle instincts, Fae are still far too powerful to take so lightly. He frowned in silence for a moment. There's no point in dwelling on it right now. First things first. He forced his expression to calmness and regarded the Fae before him with relative ease.

"I see, very well. Your assistance might well be useful but I doubt that there will be anything to learn from the body of a warrior who was thrown away deliberately. In any case, it would be reckless to not take some interest." Zeal's voice took on an ironic and slightly bitter note. "Human rulers are known for becoming reckless." I hope that is all it is. "Since you were walking away from Fae lands I assume that you wish to continue moving in that general direction. I can provide you with a place to stay for a time if you are interested. The others there are mostly non-humans."

Valden stopped growling and his eyes fastened on Zeal. It had been more than a year since the last time that some plot was uncovered by Zeal's instincts but that was nothing like this. Zeal actually seemed to have some little fear in him about this. The sensation of gazing upon a puzzle that has barely begun to be assembled and knowing nothing about the final picture seemed dominant in his partner's heart and that was very uncommon. Such a move, sending pitifully inadequate troops into Fae territory, was either inept or devious. Zeal's instincts throbbed with fear of the latter. If a war was begun between Fae and humans then it might result in the annihilation of one of the races. That would be catastrophic.

Valden snapped his eyes back to the Fae as a general invitation was extended. Can we trust him that much? No. Not yet. His and Zeal's feelings were in harmony on this. They would need to know much more about this Fae before they could involve him in their plans. But, until then...

Artes stared at Kreen for minutes and then finaly turned. His face was etched in sorrow as he made his way to his own bed. He sat down and layed with his face to the wall, away from the Assassin.

'That' was what he had forgotten. Kreen was an assassin, one of... no, 'the' best taker of life known. It made Artes sad to hear him say such things. "I feel so little anymore, I wonder what it would be like..."

Can he really not feel? But is it possible to perminantly remove emotion? They're so important. Without them, a life would feel void. That's what sentients strive for is something that makes them feel good, feel happy. So what keeps Kreen's will to live alive?

As he pondered this, he slowly fell into sleep, the excitement that had just occured making him drowzy enoughe for a nap.
