I'm sorry, but I have to put 2 more cents in.
Isn't this more of a 'Victims of the Recent Russian Communism' memorial more so that Communism as a whole? Like, Stalinism, not Communism? Gar, this makes me mad. (This'll probably piss a lot of people off, but I'm gonna say it anyways) Why don't they make a 'Victims of Christianity' memorial along with it??? Grr...
I like religion one better pisses off the Jews, Muslims and Christians alike. Just how I like it. They named it you pay for it.

Even though it fits. I mean heck his own grandfather helped Hitler through banking and was a Nazi supporter and now Bush is following Hitler to a tee in everything he is doing. Instead of Jews it's Muslims, he is doing the gay bashing, he tortures, he breaks the law, he takes away freedoms etc. He is the Hitler of the 21st century.

Eh, the US needs someone to continue to demonize, Nazis and Fascists have been the posterchilds for a while now, and Muslims are seen as politically incorrect.

And as for there not being a memorial to those suffering under Fascism, I guess all I can think of is the Halocaust Memorial.
Hitler is a poster child, got to love Hitler and Bush comparison. I find calling people Nazi's or Hitler quite old.

Funny this is happening at the precise moment when America's people are starting to realize the victims of their own nation.
It could be worse, it could be raining.

Ever the witty one, Steven Hawkings brings forth yet another witty reprise!

hmmm this is strange, there is already a "victims of communism monument" in...crap I don't remember the name of the country but it was because of the "Prage spring" or something like that.

I guess it is an attempt to regain followers...again.

Between Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot Communism has certainly earned a genocide memeriol. The 20th century was a long series of mass graves and totaltarian communism was an imporant contributor to that delevopment

Other genocide memorials I would like to see would be
-Memorial for genocide of Native Americans
-Memorial for genocide caused by Western imperialism in Africa

Neither of those were one man or nation operations, therefore probably won't get memorials. And didn't a lot of European countries officially apologize for Imperialism a few years ago? Dunno, but I'm almost positive the US did for taking Indians off their land. And in all fairness they weren't there to simply massacre them, just make them move so they could use the land of course.

On a more relevant note... I think that it should be renamed to something more applicable. The various totalitarian regimes of Eastern Europe did cause much damage. Perhaps a "Victims of Stalinism" memorial?

Anti-communism much?

To think, any one, that the bourgeois state will put up a memorial against itself is just plain stupid.

And Obach: What genocide?(and it is typical of you Anarchoids that you put the /truely/ genocidal freak, Pol Pot alongside the stalinists. Pol Pot was... I'm not sure how to characterise him other than right wing colonial nationalist...)

Well through diease, war, and forced movement millions of Native Americans Sure it wasn't as dramatic as the Holocaust, nothing ever will be. But I think something more then an "oh shucks!" apology is in order.

If you commies get to classify me on the same poltical wing as Hitler, Bush, and Thatcher. Surey I can inculde Pot a self described communist as an example of communist genocide.

Hey Robert Muagbe, the dicator of Zimbabwe is sort of like a small time Pol Pot. And Hugo Chavez is best buddies with him, neat!

Clearly unbiased

June 12 was an historic day for the victims of communism and for those who love liberty.
