I guess I spent a bit more time than I thought out there on the shore. ( sweatdrop ) I was hoping to come back and give Jess-chan a call to see if she wanted me to make a nightgown for Tenera.

But it was a lovely evening. I say that "lovely" thing a lot, don't I? But it fits. The sunset was just glorious, with the red disk of the sun sinking gracefully into the sea, followed faithfully by the colored banners of sky until the world was shrouded in a dark starry and the moon came to float gracefully over the sleeping city.

I must sound like a hopeless romantic sometimes, don't I? ( xd )

But the clouds didn't come much closer. They seemed to stay on that point on the horizon, just waiting for the chance to strike. Like a pride of lions surveying their prey, waiting for the perfect opportunity.

Wow. That was strange. ( eek )

But I think Kurenai-chan enjoyed the walk. Though it was humid and miserable for me, she didn't seem to mind. The wind rustled through her barbs, and sometimes I thought I could just hear the faint sound of...laughter? Perhaps it was just my imagination. But I'd like to think it was the fenthry. ( 3nodding )

As we arrived back at home, I found a package on my doorstep addressed to Kurenai and me. Intrigued, I went inside to open it and found the most adorable red and gold pegasus doll. Eleven inches long from chest to tail tip, four inches at the shoulder. And the place between the wings would make a perfect place for a newly hatched fenthry to sleep! ( biggrin ) With a pillow and blanket, of course.

And so another thought possessed me. I was thinking of making nightgowns for the fenthries, neh? Well, if all the fenthry owners had one of these adorable little pegasi (plural of pegasus, whatever that may be xp ) for their fenthry's bed...I could make pillows and blankets, too!!

It's easy enough. After making dolls with little more than a hook, yarn, cotton-fluff, and the help of my handy little scissors, I'm confident that I can make pillows. Nice plushy ones, too, that have enough stuffing to make them comfortable and plooshable or fluffable, but not enough to make them enormous and unideal for sleep and not so little that they're uncomfortable and flat.

The blankets will be the real challenge. I have never truly succeeded in making a blanket. It always turns out to be too thin in the middle or too wide in the middle because I miss stitches or make too many. And if that doesn't happen, it leans to one side because the stitches were too many on one side. But I make cute dolls!! ( sweatdrop ) And it never hurts to try again. Besides, there were lots of crocheted blankets around my parent's house...because my mother crocheted. She taught me, tell you the truth. And I just took it a step further to make dolls.

Without a pattern, no less! I never used a pattern for my dolls. ( xd )

Okay, D-chan, enough bragging for today. ( stare )

But it seems like a good idea. A nice long, wide blanket for a fenthry to wrap him or her self up in to keep warm on those cold nights. Or cold days, it could function as a blanket to keep them warm in traveling, as well. ( 3nodding )

And then I can experiment with making pants. ( xd )

But I think that's more than enough idle speculation for one night. Tomorrow I hope to see Jess-chan and invite her over to make the nightgown and maybe the pillow and blanket. Maybe I'll even see Marushii, too, and get both done! ( biggrin ) Then I can try to find Owyln and Molly to make theirs.

But there are many other things I must do tomorrow, as well. Such as go back to the store to get a few more things, and hopefully stop by the Fenthry Preservation Society to talk to Louhi.

I was wondering if I could adopt a second fenthry to keep Kurenai company at all times. I haven't actually told my little fenthry friend yet, but I think she'd be happy about it. Before I actually buy the second one (if I can at all sweatdrop ), I'll explain my plan and let her choose the one she'd like best to live with.

But it's just an idea. ( sweatdrop )

Until my pen again crosses your pages with more news,

Your truly,
~D-chan Spiro

Ah, another morning. But this time it's a Saturday morning, and Saturday mornings are always the best. ( 3nodding ) Because it's a day of freedom, where there is little to commit to unless you have a schedule rigid enough to use as a table. ( stare ) If you have a more flexy-bendable schedule, you can get more fun in. ( biggrin )

But this morning at around dawn I woke again to Kurenai's barbs fluttering on my forehead. And, once again, I was afraid she was about to be crushed by my weight as I rolled over (if she hadn't been already eek ) and bolted awake. But she was fine, appearing to have just moved.

And so my eyes travel to the window, where the darkness lies outside the house. And what should I see but the return of the fairies!! ( xd ) Yes, Kurenai-chan seems highly in tune with those little lights. ( stare ) Maybe it's because she's a magical creature. Who knows?

But it was getting light out, and I saw the lights floating outside the window. So, not having much better to do, I got up and opened the window.

You know, those lights move fast. By the time I had pried the unused window open an inch they were floating out in the growing sunlight ten feet away. I wasn't about to go after them, of course (it was still way too early for that and I still don't know if they want to eat me for a late-evening snack eek ), so I just left the window open and went back to sit on the bed, twirling Kurenai-chan's shaft gently between my fingers. They didn't come closer, and I watched as the sun rose and the lights gradually faded before disappearing.

So the fairies only come at night and leave in the day. Wow, new revelation for me. ( stare xd )

So I decided to write that odd little event in here before going to get ready for the day. Kurenai seems to rustle in curiosity whenever I walk around the house with her...as though she wonders just who I'm talking to.

See, I have a bad habit of talking to myself. And cursing myself when I make mistakes. ( xd ) But I talk to myself often. I plan aloud, I talk to myself as I plot ideas for the random stories that often float through my head (so Kurenai-chan will probably be very knowledgeable on all of the characters of my stories when she hatches sweatdrop ), and I talk to her. Especially when working on ideas. I ask her opinion and get a rustle of acent or disapproval. It's very helpful, especially when a story has a branch that can take it two ways.

I've also begun to read aloud again. I know it's probably a bad idea, but the first book I picked up to read to her was The Golden Compass. It's such a good book, though!! And at night, when I don't particularly feel like reading, I plan and describe scenes and people to her. I think she enjoys it, for she sits quietly and when I look at her she moves in tiny waves that sometimes seem like surprise, laughter, or even applause. It's always nice to have such a kind audience. It's been a long time since I've had someone who could appreciate my ideas.

The last people to really listen and enjoy were Marushii and Jess-chan, to tell you the truth. I suppose that's one of the reasons they're some of my best friends. Because they listen so well and seem to enjoy. And now I have Kurenai to bounce ideas off of.

I don't think I could have chosen a sweeter fenthry.

And so I think I'll end this entry here to go and get a few more things from the store.

I forgot to mention the tribulations of yesterday's experience at the store!! I wasn't allowed to take my baskets or backpack in, so I left them at the door under the helpful eye of a store clerk. Kurenai slipped easily into the small clip of my favorite necklace that I had happened to wear that day (my dad gave it to me. It's in the shape of an oriental dragon, made of red jade, with a little gold loop that allows it to stay on the chain. I put her in the loop. She stayed quite nicely, tell you the truth 3nodding ).

And so we went around the store with the shopping cart getting things we needed, and so I went to buy them. Then I remembered that I had left my money in my backpack, so I had to ask to retrieve my money. It took a while for them to agree (what, they were afraid I'd run off without the food? stare ), and so I got my money and came back, only to find my cart gone and someone off returning all the food to its place! And so I had to get my cart, retake all the items that had been put back, and go back to buy them.

But naturally, nothing is that easy. After I'd bought my things, I went looking for my pack only to find that security had taken them, thinking they might be hazardous. So I had to leave my cart and get my pack and baskets.

Luckily, I caught the person ready to put my stuff back, but I still had to explain that I'd already paid for them (why didn't they just trust the fact that they were all neatly placed in plastic bags? xp ). And so I put everything in the pack and the basket and barely had enough room for it all.

Of course, then I had to explain to security why I was walking off with baskets of food. What a day. ( xp ) Today when we get the last few things I remembered, we are going to take only the backpack and make sure we remember to take the money with us. And Kurenai's barbs ripple approvingly over the back of my hand as I say that last bit aloud.

So we had best get going.

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of Kurenai-chan and myself.

Yours truly,
D-chan Spiro

D-chan Spiro
"This is it! Isn't it nice?" The door opens quietly on newly oiled hinges as D-chan opens the door, holding it open for Jess-chan to enter. "A lady in town owns it and let me rent it. I've already got most everything set up." Her tail swishes contentedly as she walks into the living room, showing off the couch and chairs, along with the endtables piled with books and writing pads.

"Can I get you and Tenera anything?" the fox-girl asks, making her way into the kitchen. "I have tea, milk, and I can always whip up a nice lunch for us. Oh, and this is the yarn Tenera can choose from. She can pick three different colors if she wants, too, one each for the blanket, pillow, and nightgown." Stopping by the heavy oak-wood table, she gently taps each pale color of yarn in turn. Creamy white, rose pink, pale orange, jasmine yellow, mint green, sky blue, and lavender. Lying just above the line of yarns is a slender rod with a delicate hook at the end. Just beside it is a small pair of scissors, the twin blades strangely curved. The chair just behind these instruments is pulled away from the table slightly, giving the slightest glimpse of the large back of cottony fluff used as stuffing for the soon-to-be pillow.

Jessie-kat
Not just one figure is trotting along the beach this dreary afternoon. The sky is ladened in shades of heavy grey, thick brushstrokes across a cosmic, smoky canvas; the seas are an angry whirl of water and foam on the distant horizon, lapping with some irritation at the shore. Jessie spares this a slight, worried glance, reaching up with one hand to lightly touch the fenthry curled beneath her chin and whistling half of a bar of some gentle, calming tune.

As her friend leads her into her home, Jessie appropriately applauds the quaint little shack, Tenera scampering out to cling to one heavy, ochre-clad shoulder. "Very nice!" the girl exclaims, leaning over to admire pads and books as she passes, following D smoothly into the kitchen. "A lot cleaner than my place, that's for sure. Tenera-chan's getting into so much trouble, I've had to clean up the bedroom, she keeps getting lost behind the dresser..."

Upon the gesturing to the past dresser, J-chan puts it in reverse, backpedaling to gently lift her fenthry from her shoulder and place her on top of the wooden table. She leans down, clears her throat, and speaks to the little pastel creature (presently regarding her with a wide gaze), pausing only to admire the yarns on display.

"Okay Tenera, D-chan's going to make you a nightgown, and a blanket, and a pillow! But you have to pick out the colors you want, okay? Can you be a good girl for mommy and do that?"

Eagerly, nodding quick enough to flick her bangs, the little fenthry descends upon the yarns set out for display, strutting back and forth before them not unlike some proprietor of yard sale, putting a minute finger thoughtfully to her chin.

At long last she makes her selection, with cute squeaking and gesturing to indicate which color she wants for which gift: lavender for the nightgown, sky blue for the blanket, and rose pink for the pillow. Smiling, J-chan translates this to D, picking up Tenera and nuzzling her against her jaw while continuing once more into the kitchen. "Tea, thanks," she says at last, politely eyeing the tidy room. "And some honey for Tenera, if you have it." biggrin

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles at Tenera as she moves to the stove. "Excellent choices, Tenera-chan," she chuckles. "I'll get started as soon as I put the tea on." She lifts the teapot easily, laughing softly as she shows off the cute little mouse warrior to Jess-chan before filling it with water and leaving it to heat on the stove.

"Honey? Lucky for you I just got some from the store!" Humming softly, she pulls the jar out of the pantry before retrieving a tiny silver spoon from a nearby drawer. Setting the spoon and the newly opened jar on the table before her guests, the fox-girl sits down and takes up the slender blue hook and the rose pink yarn. Pulling the yarn out from the middle, she creates a loose slip not before hooking it around the needle.

"It's been a while since I've seen you," D-chan remarks, glancing up as she makes the tiny loops in the yarn that will eventually create a small fenthry-sized pillow. "What have you been up to lately?" She pauses for a moment, smiling as she takes Kurenai from the table by the yarns and threading her shaft through the growing creation of yarn.

Jessie-kat
Obligingly, J-chan squeals over the quaint warrior mouse teapot, exclaiming on its cuteness and reminding D of her desire to one day visit that mystery shop of which her friend is always speaking. Reaching out, the girl takes up the honey jar and unscrews the lid as she talks, acting the part of a perfectly cheery girl talking to her best friend; eagerly, Tenera leaps down from the crook of Jessie's arm, stumbling slightly on the loose tablecloth and rushing around to wait patiently and politely for her spoonful of honey, tail swishing behind her.

"It has," J-chan agrees, dipping the spoon into the jar and proffering the tip to her fenthry. Excitedly the little creature thrusts her face forth and delicately begins lapping it up, grinning at the sticky texture and half-closing her eyes in obvious enjoyment. Laughing softly, the girl reaches out and affectionately runs her finger along the fenthry's back. "Oh, this, that, and the other thing," she answers evasively. "I've been a bit sad, to tell the truth; I think it's an early onset of motherhood anxiety. And don't laugh! I'm being serious." xp

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles understandingly. "I know what you mean, that anxiety of the onset of motherhood. I find myself stressing about Kurenai-chan often enough, worrying about how she'll be when she hatches, what she'll act like, whether or not she'll be like Crimson...you know. That sort of thing. I was also thinking of getting another fenthry, as a friend for her. Or maybe a brother, depending. I was hoping for a boy, if you hadn't guessed." The fox-girl laughs, taking a poof of cottony fluff and stuffing it into the rosy pink pillow before drawing it closed and snipping the yarn with the curved scissors.

"There you are, Tenera-chan, one pillow. What do you think?" she asks, carefully pulling Kurenai's shaft from the pillow and setting it on the table beside the fenthry and her honied snack. Taking the sky blue yarn in hand, she began to crochet the blanket. "After I finish this one, you'll have to hold still so that I can do more measurements. The nightgowns are the ones that take more time and effort, after all."

Jessie-kat
"Oh, thank god! You understand, then?" Tightening her fists and leaning forward on the table, J-chan fixes her friend with an imploring gaze, not quite trusting herself to smile. "I thought I was just being weird or something... I dunno, I've felt so nervous and anxious and like I just don't want to do anything, but it's hurting Tenera by staying inside all the time and I figured the best person to visit would be you, you're always caring and understanding and ..."

Ignoring her mother's blather, Tenera continues lapping up the spoonful of honey, her hands folded behind her back as her delicate, tiny tongue works hard at extricating the sticky stuff without getting her face too messy; upon Dani's presentation of the pillow, however, the fenthry reaches up and wipes off her maw on her forearm, nodding enthusiastically and reaching for the soft pillow.

J-chan pauses in her ranting with a soft smile. "Aww, she likes it. And you're such a good seamstress, darn you, I can't stitch a thing."

D-chan Spiro
D-chan laughs. "I'm glad she likes it. Honestly, I can't sew worth a copper penny, but I can crochet really well. My mom taught me how, and I just made leaps and bounds after that. I've made dolls without patterns." Her smile brightens as she watches Tenera take the pillow.

"I'm glad you feel you can turn to me," she says quietly, continuing to crochet, pulling out a few stitches that appear off. "I'm really glad. You know I'm always here to listen and help however I can. I've felt really anxious about Kurenai-chan, too, but I've been taking it out in the journal and on our walks. We were actually planning on heading into the forest for a trip and a change of scenery. We'd love it if you would join us." She held the blanket up and cocked her head at it.

"It still has a ways to go," she muttered, threading Kurenai into one of the loops before continuing onward.

Jessie-kat
"There is a difference between sewing and crocheting, huh?" Glancing to the ceiling with the slightest tinge of embarrassed blush, J-chan glances to the teapot, once more admiring the cuteness of its shape. "Yeah, I trust you," she admits quietly. "You're my best friend and a real confidante. I love Marushii, but... she's seemed so distant lately... I'm almost sort of worried. I was thinking about visiting her later, seeing Kaji."

Tenera, meanwhile, tucks her pillow under her arm and returns to the spoonful of honey, beginning to drip onto the table in Jessie's thoughtful absence; looking alarmed, the little fenthry begins trying to clean it up, scrubbing her elbows at the small stain and catching the next drip in her mouth. stressed

Suddenly realizing this, Jessie tips back the spoon as to not spill anymore and, using the sleeve of her jacket, scrubs up the rest of the honey on the table; readjusting the spoon (and dipping it into the jar again) she proffers it once more to Tenera, who gladly accepts. "And we'd love to go with you on your hike!!" J-chan exclaims throughout, "Thank you so much for asking us!"

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles. "I'm glad to hear that you'd like to come! I've been thinking about it for a while, but I didn't really want to go without company. We just have to set up a good time. I wonder if Kurenai-chan will have hatched before we leave..."

Upon hearing the sudden whistle emanating from the mouse's carrot, she smiles and finishes the last row of the blanket. Holding it up, she smiles at her handiwork lovingly. "My best blanket yet, I do say." Snipping the yarn off, she lays the blanket by the fenthry and stands, taking Kurenai in hand and walking off to the stove.

Taking the mouse off the burner, she takes the tea strainer and drops it into the teapot before replacing the lid and looking at the time. "Leave it in for about ten minutes. That should be enough to finish most of the base of the nightgown." Moving back to the table, she takes up the lavender yarn and quickly makes a long chain, looping it together to form a ring.

"Tenera, I need you to stop eating the honey for a moment so that I can see if this is too big." Gently placing Kurenai's soft feather on the table, she holds the ring up to the little honey-loving fenthry.

Jessie-kat
"A nice time," J-chan muses, thinking. "Well, my schedule's pretty free now 'til... well, a while, I suppose. I'm not working anymore... But I am heading up to the farm this weekend. You and Kurenai could come if you wanted, I'm going to visit the cats and get them fed and talk to Ben a bit -- he's the hand up there, does most of the work when Maru and I aren't around." Her expression fading to one of blissful happiness, belying a secret affection for the farmhand, Jessie clenches one fist beneath her chin and sighs happily.

Tenera, meanwhile, squeals over her new blanket and bolts away from the honey to fling herself in it, rolling excitedly on her back and generally expressing very great pleasure; at once she hops to her feet and thrusts her chest at D, presenting herself in all of her four-inch glory to be measured. "Deeee!" whee

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles but says nothing about the inkling of understanding of Jess-chan's feelings about the farm hand. Laughing quietly at Tenera, she slips the loop over the fenthries head and judges a bit.

"It's a bit large, I think...unless you want it to be a bit large, then I suppose it's perfect. What do you think?" Glancing at the clock, she thinks for a moment and decides. "Oh, seven minutes is enough, I suppose," she chuckled. Taking Kurenai up once again, she took a few steps away before turning back and bowing apologetically to Tenera. "Give me just a few minutes, this won't take long."

Walking back to the mouse, she pulls a pair of large mugs out of the cabinet. Pouring the tea into them easily, she revels in the warm aroma. Chuckling lightly, she walks to the refrigerator and takes down a miniature cup just the right size for, say a fenthry?

Pouring tea into this last mug, she takes the small one over first. "Does she like honey in her tea? If not, I always have sugar." With this last statement she places the sugarbowl on the table before Jess-chan before returning with their mugs of tea. Procuring two large spoons from a nearby drawer, she begins to spoon large dollops of sugar into the tea before stirring.

Sipping at it easily, she smiles warmly. "Ah, tea. I hope you don't mind Lady Gray, it's my favorite. It has a very nice citrus-y taste to it." She takes up the crocheting again and turns back to the fenthry. "So, what do you think? Should I bring it in a bit or keep it large?"

Jessie-kat
Drawing herself from her affectionate reverie, J-chan shakes her head to clear her thoughts and laughs at D's inquiry. "Tenera loves honey in anything," she says, with a dismissive wave of one hand. Meanwhile, the little fenthry sits, momentarily pulling herself away from her delicate eating, to think over Dani's offer.

At last, she flings out both arms, with a wide ear-to-ear smile. "Big! Big, big, Dee-cha--aa--...nnn! Dee-chan!" biggrin

And, upon hearing this, J-chan just falls apart; clasping both hands beneath her chin, the girl lets out a squeal, completely ignoring the snippet of conversation regarding types of tea. "Oh gosh, Dani! Did you hear that!? She spoke! She said it! Oh wow!"

Unsure of what all the hub-bub is about, Tenera pauses, glancing to her mother. "Kuh, Mummy?" sweatdrop

D-chan Spiro
D-chan squeals at Tenera's speech and pets her head with one finger. "You are so precious!" she laughs. "All right then. Big it is."

Settling back in her chair, her fingers fly as the yarn is slowly devoured and translated into a rather large but reasonably fenthry-sized nightgown. Kurenai was once again placed in the bottom edge of the nightgown, humming softly along with the fox-girl.

"Do you think Kurenai-chan will hatch soon?" D-chan asks idly as she holds the yarn creation up to Tenera to check the size. Nodding to herself, she begins to pull out a few rows of stitches before resuming her work, drawing the monstrosity inward while leaving amply sized holes for the fenthry's arms. "I'm really looking forward to it. I get the feeling that she'll be just like Crimson. What do you think?"

The final question is directed both at Jess-chan and at Tenera, for the fox-girl deems the yarn gown ready for a fitting. Handing it to the little fenthry, she takes Kurenai and holds the gray and white shaft between her fingers, smiling and waiting for Tenera's judgement. "If you like it, I can start on the sleeves and everything," she chuckles.

Jessie-kat
J-chan thinks for a moment, considering, absently twisting the lid back onto the honey. "It took Tenera about... three or four days to emerge from her feather, I guess," she says at last, and the fenthry seems to subdue somewhat at the mention; at the remark of Kurenai's personality, Jessie nods with a slight smile. "I always liked Crimson. Kurenai would be an absolutely wonderful little fenthry... whatever happened to Crimson-chan, anyway? You haven't talked about her in months."

As her mother begins putting away her favorite treat, Tenera puts on her best, most winning pouty face, allowing herself just the slightest purr as D rubs her head; she's distracted a moment later, though, by the half-finished nightgown. Letting out a squeal to communicate her delight, the pastel fenthry leaps to her feet and jigs, any trace of pout or grimness lost to the wind.

Jessie nods somewhat, looking slightly disapproving. "I do wish she didn't want it so big," she says, lightly tapping the side of the honey jar. "I don't like the look of sloppy clothes." Talk about the pot calling the kettle black; just a glance to J-chan's pants averages them to be about three sizes too big.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles and reopens the honey, taking a small spoon and dolling a large drop into Tenera's tiny tea-cup. "Now, Tenera-chan, I just need you to slip that over your head so that I can see how it looks. In the meantime, I'll start on the sleeves." Working rapidly, a ring of chains soon exists where only limp yarn had once been. Evaluating the size in comparison to the gown, she nods approvingly and continues her work.

Slipping Kurenai into one of the chains, she takes a moment to slip the sugar and an extra spoon over to Jess-chan, as though encouraging her to start on her tea. Smiling, she continues to hum contentedly as she works before returning to conversation.

"Oh, Crimson's fine. She came for a visit the day before I got Kurenai-chan, you know. She's off living with Lance right now. Elise is living close by, and I haven't heard much about Cris and Sunny. But Crimson never got along well with those two...they didn't really care much about her."

Jessie-kat
"Mmm," remarks J-chan lightly as Dani makes an effort to continue conversation. Absently, the kitty-girl spoons sugar into her tea, thinking. "I don't think I ever met Cris and Sunny," she says at last, putting down her spoon and testing the temperature of Tenera's tea with the tip of her finger. "But from what you've told me, I don't think I like either of them one iota."

Tenera, eager to please D due to all the gifts she's being showered with, seizes the half-finished nightgown and obediently slips it over her head, squealing and trilling with glee and delight. It is very big, hanging down to nigh her ankles, and almost completely blanketing her entire figure in the shapeless wool; but whatever the case, Tenera is thrilled with it, and she makes it very clear, nuzzling into the soft material before reluctantly taking it off again and brandishing it at Dani.

D-chan Spiro
"I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't met Cris and Sunny. They don't visit Crimson much, and they don't have many friends around here, to my knowledge." As the sleeve takes shape, a dark smile appears on her face. "I remember meeting them. They're miserable kids. I can't believe they're related to Crimson at all. They're just..." Sighing angrily, she finishes the sleeve and holds it up to Tenera's arm. She chuckles lightly as she sees that the edge of the sleeve just reaches the fenthry's fingertips.

"I wonder if Crimson will be coming for a visit soon. She said that she was hoping to move down here, maybe by the sea or maybe in the forest nearby. Lance and Elise are hoping it will help her health." Noticing absently that her stitches have melded sleeve and nightgown into one, she chuckles and knots the yarn before snipping off the excess.

"Well, Tenera? What do you think?" the fox-girl asks, handing the over-large gown back to the fenthry and smiling hopefully.

Jessie-kat
Listening with captivated interest to Dani's rant, J-chan cups her chin in one hand and slowly swirls her spoon in her tea with the other, pausing once to nudge Tenera's tiny glass toward her. The fenthry eagerly takes the glass and begins to sip it, delicately taking a seat and practicing hard her manners; after a moment of thought, and some difficulty, she even manages to extend one pinky as she drinks, although that soon crumples and Tenera begins to laugh.

Glancing to this, J-chan smiles, lightly ruffling the fenthry's hair with the tip of one finger. "Don't worry about it, sweetie," she encourages the little pastel creature, "D won't mind if you aren't entirely... presentable."

Meanwhile, Jessie perks up upon mention of Crimson's thoughts of moving nearer; she had always liked the girl, whether or not Dani had allowed her many visits, D had talked of her often -- to the point where Jessie felt as though she knew her herself. "That would be wonderful!" J-chan exclaims, stifling the rest of her thoughts in her tea.

Upon semi-completion of her nightgown, Tenera gives another excited squeal and bounds forth to try it on, nearly spilling her tea in her enthusiastic rush. Pulling it over her head and fighting somewhat to manuever her arm through its sleeve, she wriggles the fingers of the hand within sleeve, staring down at it with high interest. At last she carefully takes it off again, handing it back to D with a short beam of approval.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles and lays the gown on the table lightly before proceeding to make an identical sleeve. "You haven't met Lance or Elise, have you, Jess-chan?" she asks curiously. "I don't think they've ever visited before, even though I keep bugging Lance to take a vacation here. One day he WILL listen. Even if I have to drag him here." Laughing softly, she seems to pull the second sleeve out of thin air before attaching it easily to the nightgown.

"There ya go, Tenera-chan. One nightgown, all for you." Smiling, she hands the yarn monstrosity to the little fenthry before sitting back with her cup of tea, holding Kurenai-chan gently between her fingers.

The feathers flutters and whistles softly, seeming to struggle against the fox-girl's grip. Startled, she releases her hold and watches the scarlet fenthry arc gracefully into the air before making a slow descent to the ground.

Too stunned to move, the fox-girl can only watch in awe as her feather is enveloped in a bright magical light before a four-inch tall creature tumbles gently onto the white tile floor. She shakes her head lightly and rubs her hair with one ruby-furred paw, whistling in confusion before looking up at the table and the three figures on and around it.

A brilliant smile crosses the little fenthry's face as she stands up and waves enthusiastically, her garnet coat gleaming in the light. D-chan stands carefully and kneels down beside the little fenthry, scooping her up off the cold floor and looking at her with stunned amazement.

Kurenai whistled and fluttered her wings, wrapping her tiny arms as best she could around the fox-girl's nearest cheek. D-chan smiles and laughes slightly, a flood of joy coursing through her. "You hatched," she whispers. Standing carefully, she turns to Jess-chan, a smile identical to that of her fenthry crossing her face. "Jess-chan, she hatched!!"

Jessie-kat
Jessie shakes her head, sipping further at her tea. "You've told me enough about them, though, I feel like I know both of them!" The kitty-girl laughs, setting her teacup on the table with a soft clink and leaning the side of her face into her open hand, watching Tenera and Dani. The little pastel fenthry is thrilled with her nightgown and, despite it being nowhere near bedtime, trills happily upon receiving the completed garment and immediately slips it over her head, struggling to get both arms in the right holes.

At last she succeeds, sitting down with a sudden 'oof' and hugging herself, smiling widely. Jessie's gaze distances somewhat, in the vague direction of the sink; lost in her own thoughts, she makes no effort to mend the lapse in conversation, thinking abstract concepts she knows she shouldn't.

But when Kurenai begins her transformation, the girl recognizes it immediately -- leaping up from her chair with enough quickness to knock it over, she nearly spills her tea and startles Tenera, causing the little creature to jump and look around wildly for the source of all the vigor. "She's hatching!" J-chan shrills excitedly, clapping her hands over her mouth a second later to contain her enthusiasm. Tenera, also recognizing these entirely familiar signs, stares up at the descending fenthry, an odd look in her eyes.

Whatever it is, however, disappears a moment later as Kurenai reveals herself in all of her ruby-furred glory. Leaping to her feet, the nightgown swirling round her ankles, Tenera also plasters a wide grin across her face and begins garbling greetings to the new fenthry, mixing it with broken English. J-chan picks up her chair, setting it upright with one hand still clasped across her mouth, looking fit to burst with delight; distrusting herself to squeal, Jessie can't manage to communicate her thanks to her friend, but Tenera picks up on it right away and translates with a giggle.

"Yay, Dee-char--harn--ah... Dee-chan!" biggrin

D-chan Spiro
D-chan laughs and gently hugs the ruby fenthry to her face, listening to the tiny creature's soft breathing and minute, but recognizable, heartbeat. Walking back to the table quickly, she sets the tiny red fenthry on the table near Tenera.

"Kurenai-chan? I'd like you to meet Tenera-chan, Jess-chan's fenthry. Be nice, make friends, be happy." Laughing, she sat back to watch her fenthry's first encounter with one of her own kind. She giggled and squealed softly in the background, chattering incoherently about happiness and the hatching of her fenthry.

Kurenai clasps her hands behind her back and bows to Tenera awkwardly, something she seems to have picked up from D-chan's motions. She smiles warmly at Tenera, emerald eyes crinkling with mirth. She whistles as she looks her fellow fenthry over, chittering a happy greeting.

Jessie-kat
Unable to contain her giddiness any longer, J-chan leaps up from her seat, hands still clamped tightly over her mouth, and sped over to tightly embrace D, squealing happily and possibly knocking her friend over with her enthusiasm.

Frowning slightly at her mother's behaviour and looking slightly embarrassed, Tenera refocuses her attention on the new little fenthry, smiling shyly and mimicking Kurenai's awkward bow -- except, being older and more used to things, hers is much smoother, almost seeming professional despite a teasing grin.

Somehow managing to process coherent thought, J-chan clasps a hand to her mouth again, this time in delighted surprise. "Oh, D! I have to buy you something for the occasion! I know, I know, let's go shopping! There's this excellent little bookstore down on Third Avenue, it has a wonderful selection of manga, I can pick you up a series or two! C'mon, c'mon, you can take Kurenai and show her off and let her socialize!"

Straying a glance to the table, Jessie smiles. "Although she's already doing the latter... aren't they SWEET?" xd

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles brilliantly and scoops Kurenai up into her hands, cuddling the little creature gently. "Would you really?" she asks Jess-chan excitedly as the little ruby fenthry crawls from her palms down one arm and up to her shoulder to perch just beneath the fox-girl's hair. "Well, if you want to treat me to some manga, be my guest. I still have to finish a few series, after all."

Laughing to herself, D-chan pets Kurenai with one finger, listening to the creature's soft chirping, and turns to escort Jess-chan and Tenera out to town.

Foenixfyre
Sitting in the Fenthry shop, Foenix pulls out the cell-phone that had been left on her doorstep days ago, hitting the speed-dial for D-chan's number. When she ss switched to the voice mail, Foenix leaves a quick message.

"Hi there, D-chan. Guess what? Freya transformed! She's absolutely gorgeous, and I can't wait for you to meet her. I've heard over the grapevine that there have been several transformations lately, so I hope your little Kurenai has as well! In any case, I hope to see you in the shop some time today. Bye!"

With a smile, Foenix hits "end" and slips the phone back into her purse. Looking down lovingly at her little Fenthry, she returns to the story she's reading aloud.

Owyln
The red phone suddenly gave a large shrill sound of the ringing tone a few times before going dead once more in its place, the small piece of yellow fluff on the end of the phone falling lightly towards the table once more where it was settled. There on the message log laid a brand new message reading "one new voicemail".

The voice on the end of the line belonged to Owyln and it appeared to be from a place that was rather heavily tightly packed with people bustling about, so you could barely hear his voice.
"Hey D-Chan, ill explain how I got this number later. I was wondering if you wanted to come around for a little bit of cake, sorry it was my birthday on Tuesday...and me and Molly haven't quite devoured the cake, oh and im inviting Maru, J-Chan and Owyn hopefully, it would be great if you could make it, thanks again. Owyln oh and its be tomorrow! At my house, by the shore.

Oh, goodness. It's been AGES since I've written something here...but things have been so hectic in life lately. ( sweatdrop )

I'll tell of the events in detail later, but for now I need to just state things simply until I have more time.

First, KURENAI-CHAN HATCHED!!! ( biggrin ) She's a lovely ruby color, with darker hair and a white band on each upper arm. She has one white spot on each cheek and two more on her forehead moving toward the bridge of her nose. She has a tiny heart on her upper thigh, and her tail is white with cool gray stripes. Her tiny wings, though temporarily useless for flying, are topped by crimson color and have gray, white-spotted feathers growing from the minute bones. She's lovely, and I couldn't be happier to have her.

Second, I have a new pet!! ( biggrin ) His name is Rai no Kaen, Flames of Thunder. Kaen for short. He and Kurenai get along very well, oddly enough. Only problem is that Kurenai refuses to speak English...only the chirps and whistles of the sparieh, like Kaen.

Third, I have this horrible feeling that Kurenai now has a boyfriend. ( eek ) His name is Sage. He's an adorable fenthry, metallic silver-gray in color, with violet hair and wings in varying shades of the same color. He also has little black horns, a row of black rings on his tail, and black rings under his eyes like those of a peregrine falcon. He's very cute, and he seems to like Kurenai-chan. A LOT. ( eek )

On the same note, she also has her first rival in love. Skyfire, the fenthry that belongs to a young woman named Flamefire, seems to have a crush on Sage as well. Only Sage ignores her much of the time, too obsessed with Kurenai-chan to notice her much anymore. Skyfire is trying her hardest not to even come in contact with my little ruby fenthry. Poor Kurenai-chan. She doesn't even understand why.

Fourth, I've determined that Kurenai does, in fact, have the same heart problems as Crimson. It's really sad...she can't exert herself too much or her chest begins to hurt badly. My poor little Kurenai-chan...

Fifth, I have a room mate now! ( biggrin ) The girl I mentioned earlier, a neko girl, told me that she needed a place to stay, so I talked with the woman who rents me the house and she told me that I could have someone else live with me for an extra 50 gold per week. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. Too bad Skyfire can't stand Kurenai right now...housemates having a spat.

Sixth has to do with Owyln. Yesterday I was walking by the shop and saw him curled up in an alley. I took him home and took care of him...he was in bad shape, with his ankle broken and cuts all over him. Apparently...he was injected with a aimilar fluid as that which turned me into a fox-breed.

So I'm kind of worried.

And seventh and final is the big news. I've been accepted as Louhi's assistant at the Fenthry Preservation Society shop!! ( biggrin ) It's wonderful!! I have a job now. WonderwonderWONDERFUL!! And I hope to help people out as best I can.

Well, I think it's time for us to take a walk down the shore. I want to check on Owyln anyway. Later we were planning on heading into the forest and finding a nice little cabin for vacations. It might be nice for a change of scenery. I've also invited Jess-chan.

Anyway, Kaen and Kurenai and I will be off for a while. I'll fill in all the blanks over the next few days.

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of Kurenai, Kaen, and myself.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

There's just so much going on lately!! Yesterday it was worse than normal...hence the reason I didn't write.

The first thing I need to put down. Since I'm not the assistant of the Fenthry Preservation Society shop, and since Louhi is currently out of town, I'm taking down names of people who want to get a fenthry. The only problem is that one is currently up only for auction, another is already reserved, and one of the remaining two is INSANELY popular. As in, so popular that I can't believe it. So I think I'll put the list of potential buyers here along with any additional notes.

*White_Lion: First to ask about the pink male with the Scorpion design (doesn't have the money to pay up front, asked about a "payment plan")

*Hott_Naru: Second to ask about the pink male with the Scorpion design (also the one who told Louhi about the fenthries; special treatment?)

*Jessie-kat: Third to ask about the pink male with the Scorpion design (currently owns Tenera)

*Daisuke-kun: Fourth to ask about the pink male with the Scorpion design, also first to ask about the violet female (current high bidder on the auction)

*Mahii: Fifth to ask about the pink male with the Scorpion design, also second to ask about the violet female (remember to keep her informed when fenthries become available if she doesn't get one this time)

And now that such is done, I'm going to head back to the beginning of the week. Kurenai-chan hatched!! ( biggrin ) I'm SO HAPPY!! I was actually with Jess-chan at the time, making a nightgown, blanket, and pillow for Tenera. Since I managed to dig out my baby yarn and crochet hooks, I decided to make nightgowns, pillows, and blankets for the fenthries. I actually have a wide variety of pastel yarns for the job: Snowflake white, rose pink, pale orange, jasmine yellow, mint green, sky blue, and lavender violet.

So I invited Jess-chan and Tenera over to have all of it made. We chatted for a while, mostly about Crimson, oddly enough. And just when I had finished, what should happen but Kurenai hatches! It was...wonderous. My little ruby fenthry came out of her shell...she's more than I could have asked for.

But then I got a bit concerned. What if she got lonely? Kurenai-chan might need someone else to play with, but Skyfire doesn't too friendly with her. She seems to have a "thing" for guys only. It might have something to do with her rivalry with Kurenai-chan over Sage. So I thought that, perhaps, I could find another pet to keep her company.

Marushii found me near the Fenthry Preservation Society shop and told me about the sparieh. She had heard from another friend that they were selling chicks, and so we raced off to get spariehs. She got a dark blue and white-blue chick called Tundra, and I found one that was mostly red, with black-edged goldish stripes. I had to have him! He was so cute!! ( whee )

And I got him!! ( biggrin ) I named him Rai no Kaen. Flames of Thunder. But we call him Kaen for short; unfortunately, Kurenai-chan has taken to him more quickly and powerfully than I had originally anticipated...now she only speaks in the chirps and whistles of the sparieh. Not a word of English will come out of her mouth, even though she's more than old enough to be speaking the language by now. Even our room mate's fenthry, Flame's Skyfire, has begun to speak. Though she seems to think that the word "flame" is the answer to everything. Adorable little thing. ( whee )

I think I'll pause this entry here. Kurenai and Kaen are waking up and they'll want breakfast soon. Kaen has an obsession with carrots, which seems odd to me. Perhaps it's because I can't stand carrots. ( xp ) So I'm going to get breakfast ready. I'll write more later!

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of our family.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

Anyway, as I was saying in the prior entry, I got a sparieh. Kurenai and Kaen get along really well. Kaen lets Kurenai ride on his back between his wings, and the two of them talk and play and everything. Kaen is really gentle with her, which makes me both proud and a bit sad. Proud that he can see that she's small and delicate and has the potential to be easily hurt, but sad that he can't play with her as he wants to.

So I've tried to make it to the sparieh meadows on a daily basis so that Kaen can interact with sparieh like himself. Of course, he and Kurenai share such a strong bond after only a few days that he practically insists that the fenthry come with him. I don't want to break either of their little hearts, so I've let them go. I feel safe letting Kaen take her out there with the other sparieh, because I know he won't purposely let anything happen to her.

I think I might also let her go because she seems like one of those reasonable fenthries who can see things rationally and turn others toward a safer path. So I send her out there to keep Kaen from getting into trouble or getting hurt as he almost did on the second day out there.

I've learned now that Kaen rather dislikes flying. He'll glide willingly enough, and he's become rather skilled at that art. But when it comes to flying, he'd much rather glide into the center of a lake and fight off the enormous evil fish while swimming to the shore rather than try and fly out. We learned this the hard way, when a few sparieh tried to give him flying lessons. His best (sparieh) friend, Joey, tried to teach him how to fly...and it worked, but it scared Kaen enough to make him fall out of the sky. He was unhurt, luckily, but he's terrified of the sky now.

But sometimes a person will forget their fears in order to help someone they care about. He actually flew once, forgetting his terror of using his wings, just to save Kurenai.

We all know how small a child-stage fenthry is. About four inches tall. A tiger-swallowtail butterfly can easily carry one of the light-weight creatures off. And that's happened twice now. Both times in the sparieh fields, when Kaen and his friends were off chasing butterflies. Kurenai seems to have a gift with the fluttering insects; all she has to do is stand still and hold up her arms and one will land right in her hands. Unfortunately, tiger swallowtails love her. And they're big enough to carry her off if they can't get their legs out of her fur when they take off.

That happened. And when its legs did come out of her fur, she was about seven feet or so off the ground. Kaen flew to catch up with the butterfly and save the fenthry. He was still a ways away when she slipped and fell, and I watched his wings tuck against his sides as he dove, catching her in his talons before landing awkwardly back on the ground.

What we do for family, neh?

But it also confirmed my fears. It might just be that, like a bird, such stress causes her heart to beat faster and faster until its almost ready to burst. But when I reached them (when I saw Kaen's flight and Kurenai's plight, I ran there as fast as I could), I took the little ruby fenthry and gently placed my thumb on her chest.

Her heart was beating at least two miles per second. I was so afraid that she would die...but she eventually calmed down and just clung to my hair, trying to stay close to something sarm and comforting. Kaen whistled and chirped what I can only guess is an apology, and she whistled back something I think was a statement of forgiveness...but I can't really tell.

The second time the butterfly carried her off, there were other spariehs, adults, who were kind enough to help her. She recovered more quickly, perhaps because she was more used to the shock after the first time, and she even went back to play with Kaen. The bonds of family and friendship...so strong.

It was around that time that I was accepted as Louhi's assitant of the Fenthry Preservation Society shop. So now, whenever I go, I'm accompanied by Kaen and Kurenai. They seem to enjoy the visits, meeting new people and fenthries. I think it's fun, watching them meet new people.

But for now, I think it's time that we did a bit of constructive work around the house. I'll write more in a while, when we take a break. ( xd )

And so, until my pen again crosses your pages with news, past or present, of our family.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

Continuing from last time, I believe there's something I forgot to mention. I became assistant to Louhi before Kurenai-chan hatched, and soon after that I offered another new fenthry owner, Flamefire, a place in the home I was renting. I asked the woman I was renting from if that was all right, and she said it was fine so long as our rent went up just a bit. So now Flame is living with us. I do the cooking, she does most of the cleaning. She's looking for a job, I'm the assistant of the Fenthry Preservation Society.

Also...Louhi made me a very kind offer. Rather than pay me in gold, she's allowing me to have another fenthry. I don't know what it will be like yet, but I'm almost hoping that it will be a very shy little male. I keep remembering Crimson and Koe...shy little Koe, who clung to Crimson like a little brother, who tried to protect her but always wound up being protected by her. What a sweet little boy he was...more shy even than Molly, and he was human.

The fenthry I imagine as a Koe would be very pale, with pastel colors in blue and green. A nice little male. But I can wait for him. I don't know when he'll appear...but I'm patient. I always have been.

Anyway, after Skyfire hatched, we met Sage. Sage is a nice male owned by a girl named Twizzler...and he appears to like Kurenai. He was originally quite fond of Skyfire, but then Kurenai-chan appeared and...it went downhill from there. I think Sage tried to make up with Skyfire a while ago, but she played hard to get and he went back to...flirting...with Kurenai-chan.

So things between the fenthries in the house are getting edgy. And poor Kurenai has no idea why, for the most part. But last night was a rather sad. Another fenthry belonging to a nice girl named May came. His name is Kagei...and he waved to Skyfire, but completely ignored Kurenai-chan. She felt ignored and lonely...poor baby. She reminds me of myself, in some respects. She gets depressed when people ignore her, and I'm not sure if she'll try again. I wouldn't, but that's me. And Kurenai isn't like me, for the most part.

I was planning on taking a trip someday soon. Going off into the forest to find a little cabin to vacation in. It will be snowing eventually, I'm sure...and it will snow more out in the forest, I'll bet. It will be easy to see both Kaen and Kurenai against the bright white background, too, which means I can keep an eye on them more easily. Selfish, aren't I? ( sweatdrop )

Of course, I went to the store with Kaen and Kurenai a few days ago. That was...entertaining. I was stocking up on fruit for breakfast, and as I passed the vegetables section I muttered about my utter dislike of carrots. Kaen perked up at the sound and whistled in interest. I pointed to them and said the word again. "Carrots?" He whistled and chirped something, all the while nodding vigorously. I immitated him and he bounced excitedly, still nodding and whistling in what seemed to be affirmation.

Imagine my surprise. The food I hate the most is something that my sparieh obsesses over. So I got a nice bundle of carrots for him. I was actually rather surprised that they let me bring Kaen and Kurenai into the store...but I'm glad they did. I don't feel comfortable leaving either one or both alone. It's always nice to have kind people who will allow young pets to stay with their owners. ( 3nodding )

Also, an auction has started for a rare fenthry that Louhi has found! Flame and I were both interested in him, but neither of us has enough money...so we decided to work together to try and win him. We're pooling our money and bidding together so that we can hopefully co-own him if we win. But the current high bid is 22,000 gold...so we're aiming to get 22,500. I'm not too worried about being unable to win him, though. Each of us already has our own fenthry, and it would be nice if a person who doesn't yet have a fenthry got one. And Daisuke-kun, the one who bid 22 k on it, seems like a nice enough person to win the fenthry. He was very polite when he came into the store asking to buy the pink male.

And I have this horrible suspicion that we won't win him, that Daisuke-kun will make the highest bid. I was looking around and found a shop for these adorable feather-tailed cats. Absolutely adorable...and a "cavern" breed was found. There was an auction on her, and Daisuke-kun had put a bid on her for 170,000 gold. If he has that kind of money, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in the sun that we can win.

But it never hurts to try, neh? ( 3nodding )

Well, that's about it for current events from the week...except for Owyln, but the small bit from the summary entry explains that quite well. And so all that shall come for now is plans for the future and events from the present.

And so, until my pen again crosses your pages with news of Kaen, Kurenai, and myself.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

What an exciting couple of days it has been. Exciting, entertaining, odd, and somewhat depressing, as well. Kurenai and Kaen have so much happening in their lives...it's exciting. But still a bit sad, when it all boils down.

It all began Monday, I suppose. The auction was running smoothly, and Flame and I were bidding high. 22.5 k, really! We were pooling our money so that we could get that cute little fluffy fenthry. But that's not the point, really.

In the morning, I gave Kaen a red ribbon. Odd-sounding, isn't it? But he was SO HAPPY!! ( whee ) Like a kid with a new toy that he wants to show off to everyone. I offered to tie it around his neck, but he refused. I think he knows that it would be less visible against his red-brown feathers. So he just held it in his beak. The bright red stood out distinctly against his black beak...he was so proud. And he looked so good. ( whee )

But the auction was going very well. A new person placed a bid, an elf named Shiaree. She wound up winning, and I'm actually very glad she did. She seems like such a nice person. I met her in the Fenthry Preservation Society shop asking about the violet female. Of course, so many people have asked that I told her she probably wouldn't get her...but she won the auction! Which is actually very nice, since she didn't have one and Flame and I each have one...and I'm about to get a second.

Did I mention that earlier? As payment for becoming Louhi's assistant at the shop, she's giving me another fenthry! I saw a picture of him last night. He's adorable, pastel blue and green...I want to name him Koe. Just like Crimson's friend Koe. So shy and quiet...clinging to her, trying to protect her, but always being protected by her.

I wonder if Koe will get along with Kaen. His colors are so pale, it means that he'll be shy...what will Kaen think of something so shy?

But that afternoon Shiaree and I had a nice conversation. Apparently she has a large number of pets, a sphynx and a platypus girl and a Grimorum that sounds absolutely fascinating. I'd love to learn more about it if possible. But she won the auction...I mentioned that already. Oh, well. I'm so happy that she did...she's just so nice. ( 3nodding )

But on Monday evening, PirateElf and her fenthry Rioko came to the shop...Rioko was sulking, and when Pirate told him to say hi he stormed over and generally looked horribly angry. It hurt Kurenai's feelings, and Kaen got angry and snapped at Rioko. It was actually the second time that day he had done that...Skyfire had tried to teach Kurenai-chan how to fly a few hours earlier. He thought she was trying to hurt Kurenai and snapped at Skyfire, too. He's so sweet, but over-protective...

He's such a sweet, considerate sparieh, really. He's so gentle with her, even though he wants to be rough and tumble. But he knows how delicate she is. I suppose it was after the first incident with the swallowtail that he found out. He's so kind, though, that I make an effort to get to the sparieh fields once a day, or at least play-wrestle with him. Good thing his claws are blunt. ( sweatdrop )

But back to Rioko. His snap scared the fenthry so much that he retreated behind a dresser. Kurenai went to try and get him out, but much to our dismay we had to leave before much progress was made. The next evening Pirate told us that it had taken until one in the morning to get him out.

But yesterday was the biggest day of events...I gave Kurenai a ribbon of her own. I've learned that she prefers green over red, which is why I gave Kaen the red ribbon on Monday morning. I gave a green one to her yesterday, but it was too big for her to carry around as Kaen did, so I tied it in a little bow around her waist. We went about our usual chores for most of the day...and that evening we went back to the Fenthry Preservation Society shop.

That's when things began to get very interesting...Sage and Rioko came back. Rioko seems to like Kurenai a lot...perhaps because she tried to help him the evening before. But Sage also seems to like her...though he seems more like a player, after both Skyfire and Kurenai at the same time. But he can't speak English yet (I'm SO PROUD that Kurenai's speaking so well!! biggrin ), so it gets tricky.

It started innocently enough. Kaen, Kurenai, Rioko, and Skyfire were off playing that they were slaying a dragon vase...and Skyfire and Kurenai wanted Sage to join. But they were speaking in their cute little broken English...and Sage can't speak yet, so he ran off...so after that, Skyfire and Kurenai tried desperately to bring him back. But eventually Rioko decided to challenge Sage for Kurenai's affection, and Pirate didn't take well to that. It ended with Rioko storming off and Sage staying with Kurenai...so Skyfire went off to make Rioko feel better, and it was all too much pain and anger for Kurenai, who broke out in tears...

She and Rioko made up in the end, though, but Rioko still seems to dislike Skyfire. And Sage really seems to want to learn to speak English so that he can be like the other fenthries...that happened today, actually.

Sage met Freya. ( whee ) Freya can't speak yet, either...apparently she's only spoken a few times. Once or twice, apparently. She's a sweetheart, she really is. Rioko still doesn't seem to like Sage, but at least he's being very nice to Kurenai. He and Kaen played hero today. Kaen captured Kurenai and played the gryphon and Rioko saved her by declaring that they were friends. ( biggrin ) He's picked up some of Kurenai's pacifistic nature...always pleasant.

And then he and Kurenai and Kaen and Freya went off to slay the demonic-looking picture of the Chinese-looking lion. Shiaree came by the store, too, with her new fenthry, and mahii got the violet fenthry!!

I don't think I mentioned this sooner, but it turns out that Daisuke-kun asked about the pink male first. So he'll get the scorpion-printed male. Mahii's already claimed her violet female, too. ( 3nodding ) They both stopped by. Shiaree even brought Akiiki the sphynx, and he and Kaen got along pretty well.

But I should really end this here...this is getting rather long, anyway. ( sweatdrop ) I'll try to write more tomorrow!! And if not, I'll write in the next few days, I'm sure.

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of our family.

Yours truly,

A knock sounds at your door. When you open it, you see a glittering brooch down by your feet...

...as well as the form of Marushii running off as fast as she can with a giggling Kaji on her head and a blue feather in her hair. Well, at least you know who it's from, ne?

What a day. What a few days.

Marushii is so nice. ( biggrin ) Yesterday afternoon I went home to get more mugs to take to the Fenthry Preservation Society shop (more on that later). But as I was getting them out of the cabinet, I heard a knock on the door. Kaen started chirping and Kurenai started whistling excitedly, expecting company to stay. I went to the door and opened it...but there was no one there. I saw Marushii and Kaji running away, though. But when I looked down, I saw this LOVELY brooch, an amber jewel of a sun surrounded by golden waving rays, with feathers painted like Kurenai and Koe in their feather stages attached.

I'll have to thank her profusely the next time I see her.

But yesterday was amazing. Late Wednesday night Louhi came in with eight new fenthries. All but two of them have now been adopted. Amazing, neh? ( 3nodding ) And the only reason the other two aren't in new homes is because Louhi hasn't come to approve or disapprove of people yet.

But the eight new fenthries were all wonderful. There were twins, a white male and female with black-rimmed red bands. Unfortunately, the male is the only one who's been adopted. By May, I believe. Also, a beige-colored male with a dark eye-spot at the top that I thought was quite handsome. ( biggrin ) I would have adopted him, if I didn't already have Kurenai-chan and Koe-chan. But he's already been adopted, hurrah. ( 3nodding ) By a young woman I'm not familiar with. There was also a pale blue female with a tip and thick band of dark blue at her middle that Marushii adopted. Yeu wanted her, as well, but Marushii got her first. She named her Maya.

Also, there a pink male with little star patterns that Louhi really liked. Daisuke-kun adopted him, too, at the same time that he picked up his first fenthry. Amazing, neh? How fast they're being adopted...and seconds, too. Then there was a black female with a tiny band of violet along one edge that PirateElf and Twizzler both wanted...but Twizzler asked first, and so she got her. She named the fenthry Ombre, which I believe is French for Shadow or Night. Another, a goldish female with a white stripe on one edge, a dark blue tip, and a dark blue stripe around her middle, is on reserve for someone I'm not familiar with...and a last male, a paler green a wonderful striped stalk and a long band of pale jasmine yellow along the right edge, over the tip, and onto the top of the left edge.

Besides Marushii's gift, little happened yesterday. I formed my plan, though, which I implicated this morning. Yesterday was just tea and conversation, as usual.

But today, I went to What You Thought Was Lost and bought a new teapot just for the Fenthry Preservation Society. It actually matches the feather theme, believe it or not. ( biggrin ) It's a cute little squirrel mage! She's wearing a dark robe, and her tail pokes out from under the cloak and curls up, touching her back before turning into a tight curl. It makes a nice handle, too! And her staff that she clings to in her little paws is the spout. It's covered in little bits of string with wonderfully detailed little feathers on them. And the top is actually a hat made out of the top part of an acorn! And you take the top off by grabbing the tiny stalk on the hat and pulling up! She's absolutely adorable.

I also bought some new mugs. I'll have to ask everyone to pick out their own personal ones, since all of them are different. My favorite has to be the one with the fox mages on it, because it reminds me of a story I want to write one day...about Esevinu. Mostly Tenal Ro, the stuff that centers around D and her friends...and later Ssenrad and her "disciples."

Also, I got some tiny ones just for the fenthries, if they like tea. ( biggrin ) Since Kurenai-chan likes tea, I had hoped that the others would, too. So I have little ones that are barely an inch tall. Adorable things.

But I put the cabinet up in the shop, and I already put up all the mugs on the shelves and hooks. It looks nice. And the teapot has ts own place on a shelf near the stove, along with the tea I brought. Oh, and Foenix brought tea cakes today!! And another girl offered to bring in pocky and onigiri!! We'll have this place turning into a regular cafe in no time! ( 3nodding )

Oh, and I got Koe on Wednesday night!! He was just like I expected...I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing? But he is shy and quiet. He didn't even move or make noise as a feather. Kurenai was afraid that he was just a regular feather, not a real fenthry. But she was proved wrong!!

He hatched just tonight! He floated up in the air, out of Kurenai-chan's grip, and floated down to the floor. But he hatched before he reached the ground...by that point, though, Kurenai-chan was on Kaen's back and they caught him right out of the air!! It was amazing. But poor Koe!! He was so scared of everyone. ( sweatdrop ) I put an empty mug on the floor and he climbed in! It took a while for him to warm up even to Kurenai. Now he just hides behind her, trying to stay away from Kaen. But he seems to like me, too. Even though I'm ENORMOUS in comparison to him. Maybe it's because I'm fuzzy and warm. He seems to gravitate toward me or Kurenai when he's scared.

Or maybe it's because I'm just a bigger thing to hide behind. ( xd )

But it's getting late now. I'll try to write in here tomorrow, I really will. But if not, I'll be sure to write on Sunday. I've been good at writing in here at least on a bi-daily basis, neh? ( sweatdrop )

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of Kurenai, Koe, and Kaen.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

I'm sorry for not writing yesterday!! Things were getting hectic and I ran out of time. But I'm writing now, and I'll do my best and try to write again tomorrow or Wednesday. Is that acceptable?

Why am I asking a journal again? ( sweatdrop )

But Saturday Louhi put up some new fenthries. ( 3nodding ) There were some very pretty ones, including a golden yellow one that Shiaree bought to keep Katsu company. Did I mention that Katsuhiro, the fluffy fenthry Shiaree got hatched!! He's cute and brown with a white-tipped fox-tail. ( biggrin ) Someday, if I can, I'd love to have Katsu and Kurenai get to know each other...and maybe breed, one day. Little fluffy red fox fenthries. ( 3nodding ) That would be cute.

But there were others, including a green white-patterned male that I thought was absolutely gorgeous. He reminded me of white flowers in the grassy fields...perhaps the sparieh fields. Either way, I thought he was glorious.

Sunday was a miserable day for poor Kaen, though. Kurenai's bright green bow seemed to have piqued Koe's interest, and so he worked up the nerve...to have Kurenai ask me to give him one. I get the feeling that he can't speak. When he was a feather, he didn't move or make a sound, and now he doesn't speak unless it's to Kurenai, and even then I don't think he really speaks.

Anyway, he asked for a ribbon, so I gave him a goldish yellow one. Kaen liked the color and tried to play with Koe, but the little fenthry was scared stiff. He hasn't warmed up at all to Kaen, for some reason...but he hid again, which rather frustrated the poor sparieh. Of course, it only got worse after that...because he tried to console himself by getting his carrots out of the fridge.

He opened it too hard. All the fruits and vegetables fell out, including the carrots. I heard it and gave him a light scolding, then told him he had to help put them back. He didn't want to, though, and got frustrated about half-way through and abandoned it. I helped, as I'd promised I would, but I left some things out. His carrots, my peaches, Kurenai's grapes, and Koe's raspberries. He came back in time to keep them from spoiling. The reason I didn't just leave his carrots out, though, was to show that I wasn't enraged at him. I wanted to show him that his decisions would hurt others.

I think he caught on. He put them away, and was much more careful when he opened the refrigerator door. ( 3nodding )

But after that, we went out to the Fenthry Preservation Society...but it rained. And he got SOAKED. Horribly soaked. All his feathers were wet, and he was miserable and frustrated that he couldn't get them dry. And then, after that, we went to the sparieh fields where for the life of him he couldn't catch the butterflies. He was just so miserable that day...I spent the better part of that evening trying to cheer them up.

Did I mention that Fire got her second fenthry? A nice black male with a white star near his base barbs.

It's getting late now, though. There are a few more things I need to say, but they can wait for tomorrow. I need to let my mind soak them in for a while before I can write them, I think.

And so, until my pen again crosses your pages with news of our family.

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

Have you noticed that I never write in the morning? ( xd ) Yeah, I'm not a morning person. Not at all.

Believe it or not, a lot has been happening lately. It's one of the reasons I haven't been writing much. I promise that I'll get back into the habit of writing daily or bi-daily...eventually.

As I mentioned last time, there was a bit more that happened on Monday. We were late coming into the shop, and we couldn't stay long, either. But Pirate and Rioko were there, which was nice. I really like Pirate. She's a very nice person, and she has a sweet (if somewhat video-game obsessed xd ) fenthry.

But he was feeling miserable on Monday evening. Apparently, earlier that day he had tried to play with Sage and Skyfire...and they ran away from him. Poor guy...he was feeling so bad...and Kurenai went to try and make him feel better. It worked, I think, even though we could only stay for a few minutes. She's such a sweet fenthry...I hope she stays that way when she turns into a teen and then to an adult.

Tuesday, though, seemed to go well for Kaen. Koe's starting to get to know him better, and he's starting to warm up to the sparieh. That's such a nice thought...one big happy family. Maybe we'll even add more to the family soon...I've heard of a writing and drawing contest for a feather tailed cat. They're so cute...I'd love to have one. ( 3nodding ) Marushii has one, a male hunter named Cloud. He's quite lovely, really. I've seen pictures.

We were rather late getting to the Fenthry Preservation Society Shop...and I rather wish we had been earlier. It turns out that Rioko had a terrible nightmare, and when he woke up no one was around for him to share it with...so he tried to go out and look for Kurenai-chan. He was soaked in the rain, and I don't think he got very far, thankfully. He was all right afterward, but I think Kurenai blamed herself for not being there. And we had to leave again soon after, no less, which just made her feel worse. It's been a bad week for her, with all of us running around without end.

Also, I've found another shop to frequent!! ( biggrin ) It's called The Velveteen Toychest, and it's actually a very nice place. There's a person there who reminds me of a vampire, really. His name is Naraka. He seems nice enough, though rather irritable and nocturnal. Actually, he reminds me of Lance. ( 3nodding ) I'll have to explain about Crimson and her family one day...

Anyway, Tuesday evening, Kurenai met Younaei, Mahii's fenthry. She's called Yoyo, for short. ( biggrin ) And Yoyo REALLY liked the green ribbon I gave to Kurenai a while ago. Absolutely adored it. So I gave a little yellow one to Mahii to give to Yoyo, somewhat like an 'I owe you,' since I have yet to make her a nightgown, blanket, and pillow for Younaei, since this was just a small gift.

And Tuesday was also the day that Crimson came to live nearby! I helped her unpack her things. I'm not sure if Elise and Lance are coming later, so I was planning on spending a good bit of time with her. To keep her company. After all, she's used to having her oldest siblings around, and without them around I think she's rather lonely. I'll have to find out of Lance and Elise are coming later.

I told her about Kurenai, as well. They, met, actually. Crimson was flattered and impressed at the little fenthry. They seemed to hit it off quite well.

Also, on Tuesday evening, a young man came in asking about the last remaining unbought fenthry, a pink female. He offered 10 k for her, which I was rather impressed with. But I was also rather angry at him. Two people, a young woman named Dora and another named Kel-chan, had asked about her first (in that order). For him to come in and offer a higher price and steal the fenthry from under the noses of those who had asked first is just wrong, in my opinion.

Wednesday I went to the Fenthry Preservation Society shop early...but Crimson called, asking for some help with the rest of her unpacking. She said that Elise and Lance are coming to live with her, but they have to finish some things before they can come. We had some nice conversation and some hot cocoa, too. With marshmallows. ( xd ) Crimson knows how to make wonderful hot chocolate.

I went back to the shop and met another person who wants a fenthry. She seemed to like the pink one, but I doubt that she'll get her. She seems like a wonderful lady, though. Her name is Lady Vincira. She seems like a wonderful artist, as well. I saw her drawing today.

But I left soon after. I was feeling a bit dismal for some reason...I came back a while later, trying to keep my mind off of my feelings by thinking about Esevinu. Pirate, Prox, and Sindarin were all pretty worried. They're so nice...they agreed to listen to my problems. I didn't have many friends who would listen to me back where I came from, when I was still renting the apartment with the fur-hating landlord.

Meanwhile, Rioko told Kurenai-chan about his dream. Apparently, he saw a small light in the distance. As he went toward it, the light began to change colors...and it rested on a deep red color. Immediately I thought about Kurenai...and she did, too. Apparently the light flashed and became a giant black dog with fierce red eyes, growling and barking with a sound like a dinosaur's roar. Rioko tried to escape, but his path was blocked by blades and spikes. The dog leapt at him...and he woke up.

Pirate wants to try and interpret the dream, but she needs to collect the energy first. She says that just being awake helps her build it, and thinking builds it, as well. So I told them the beginning of the Esevinu creation myth. Since I had been thinking about it, anyway. They seemed to like it quite a bit, which made me quite proud of my imagination. And Chalsey, my muse, for giving me the idea and helping me work with it.

I heart Chalsey. ( 3nodding )

And, of course, things just went from bad to worse overnight. Kurenai's sick now. I think she might have overtaxed herself earlier this week, and I'm not sure if having a weak heart has anything to do with it, but she's feeling horrible now. She hasn't moved much, and she's been sleeping a lot. I was taking care of her for much of the morning, but I went to the Fenthry Preservation Society shop this afternoon. She was sleeping between my ears on the top of my head, and I tried not to disturb her.

I think Koe's getting over his shyness a bit. I think he spoke to Rioko earlier, to tell him that Kurenai was sick, because he seemed very worried. And after that, he started playing with Freya, before she had to leave. And he's really warming up to Kaen, now that he knows that the sparieh doesn't want to hurt him.

But I think Kagei's a very nice fenthry. He was really worried about Kurenai, and even though he woke her up, he did say hi and told her that he hoped she felt better. I really hope she feels better soon, though...and another person asked about the pink fenthry, too. Another girl whose name I didn't catch. But she asked a good question, too. What about reserved fenthries? If no one comes to claim them, will they go back on sale? And what about the fenthries inside the feathers? Will they be hurt by the fact that they were abandoned by the one who was supposed to adopt them?

Either way. I'm hoping Koe's really getting over his shyness, even though I doubt that he'll ever talk much. Kaen's feeling better, though he's still happiest when I rough-house with him. And Kurenai-chan...

...I just hope Kurenai-chan gets better.

Until my pen again crosses your pages with news of our worried family,

Yours truly,
~D-chan Spiro

Jessie-kat
Abruptly, eerie in the stillness of the early morning, the little scarlet cellphone begins to ring. And ring, and ring... And after a moment the voicemail picks up, and the device falls silent, its golden fluff-antennae slipping back inside the case.

The message is lengthy enough, but quiet and difficult to hear -- in the first few seconds there are noises reminiscent of someone wrestling with the phone, and then a high-pitched, girlish voice begins to speak, and after a moment D may realize it's Tenera -- a very adult-sounding Tenera, using full sentences and lacking any childish tone she had before.

"D-chan? Hi, it's Tenera." A short pause, a click of something in the background, and the fenthry begins to speak very quickly. "Sorry I'm calling so early, I didn't know if you'd be awake or not -- I'm really worried about mama-ki-- Jessie, and I know you're her best friend so I was wondering if maybe you could give her a call or invite her over or something soon. I would have asked earlier, but she's been so sick, and I didn't want you to catch anythi-- oh go away, Tip!"

A few more seconds of desperate phone-wrestling -- a tiny fenthry trying vainly to properly use a cell phone just about as big as she. "Anyway, sorry if I'm being too forward! I'm just worried and I didn't know if she'd mentioned anything, so... um... Please don't tell her I called, she'll be --"

The voicemail clicks. The message is cut off, a touch too long for the box to handle.
