"Quit listening to me think then if you don't like it!" muttered Ryu. Damn mages...think they're so much better then everyone else...AND I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME! thought Ryu. She took out one of her many knives and began sharpening it, a habit she did when she was irritated.

YOU IDIOT PUT THAT KNIFE AWAY!!! Arrken thought, Gener is almost here!!!
Sure enough, mere moments after he thought that, Gener walked into the room, "Hello, class..." he said quietly. He didn't much care for talking to large amounts of people.
Noticing Arrken, he walked over and said, "How are you, son?"
To his satisfaction, Arrken noticed the looks of suprise on his fellow peers faces when he said, "Pretty good, dad."

I'm an idiot? YOU'RE THE IDIOT! thought Ryu; angry. She looked up when Grener stepped into the room. So this is the guy, huh? I suppose he's pretty cool, UNLIKE HIS SON!
Shadow meowed in agreement. Ryu put her knife away reluctantly.

Arrken and his dad laughed. "Ah, that was a good one... We actually got them thinking you were Gener and I was a Demonborn..."
"Good day, Mr. Greyar," said Caric, "Gener will be here shortly."
Zylup, Mani, and a few other students laughed. They both knew Arrken's dad, and saw through the joke.
"Y'know, I was trained by Gener's father," said Arrken's dad, "Whomever is chosen will be very lucky. But remember, you will have to learn to work together with the other students. You are a team, not rivals," at this point he was looking straight at Arrken, who stared straight back.
Caric chuckled, and then said, "We'll have a couple of sparring matches while we wait, everyone, find a partner, and fight well!"

Ryu looked around, trying to decide who to fight. She heard Vimes's challenge. Hmmm....I think I'll fight him...maybe....unless I decide to fight someone else.... she thought, carefully hiding her thoughts from Arrken. I'm sure as hell not going to let him hear my thoughts anymore! she thought to Shadow. He meowed happily.

Chuckling, Arrken murmured, "Please, your defenses are not near strong enough to even block out a novice mage. If that's all you can do, don't even try."
Arrken then challenged Zylup to a match.
"Sorry," said Zylup, grinning, "You beat me every time, anyway. Try Mani."
So Arrken challenged Mani. "Alright," she said, "Try to catch me!!!"
Moving quickly, she lunged right at Arrken, who dodged swiftly and tapped her on the head with his hilt. Mani rolled and, jumping right over Arrken's head, tried attacking him from behind. Arrken spun around and knocked Mani's blade out of her hand. Tapping her on the head with his sword, he said, "You are dead. Who's next? Vimes, sorry, I can't right now. Face it, we'd both be so tired by the end of the match that we would look terrible when Gener showed up."

Oh so that's how it is, huh Arrken? Well, just try to block ME out instead! thought Ryu loudly. She began to think nonsense as loudly as she could to make it so Arrken couldn't think straight. She wasn't very good at blocking, but she was really good at making other people incapable of thinking. She watched as he got an odd expression on his face, one of pain. She hadn't seen that expression in a long time. She snickered.
"Wanna fight me Arrken? You might win. But you might not. Stealth is the one thing you're not very good at, and it just so happens to be my profession." she said menacingly.

Arrken grinned. Allow her to get in, and... Gotcha! He saw her wince and smiled. "Fine, I accept your challenge," he said, "But I must warn you, stealth is useless in the arena." Just in case, he placed a detection aura around himself. Never can be too careful.

"Useless, huh?" said Ryu. She smirked, ignoring the pain in her head. "Well, we'll just see about that, Mr. Big-Shot mage!"
Ryu had had training that allowed her to use her moves without even thinking about them, so Arrken would have no warning of her attacks and wouldn't be able to block very well. She deftly drew one of her daggers and ran at him in a test attack, to see how strong his barriers were.
((For Ryu's attacks, just sort of imagine something off of Naruto, m'kay?))

Arrken smiled. No one seemed to realize that, when he fought in hand-to-hand, he rarely needed to use his mind-delving. He allowed Ryu to run at him, trusting his magic to protect him. Rasing his arms, he began chanting, "Ak-suluras-van-"
"Stop the match," cried Caric, "Gener is here!"
And sure enough, in walked a man clothed in dark red robes. The man was of about 40 years of age, but looked younger. Actually, Arrken wasn't interested in the man at all, but in the staff he carried.
That's... My God.. That's the Staff of Magius! Arrken thought. So it really did survive the transport to Inia... I'd have thought that our people coundn't even get it off Krynn, much less here...
