Sophie nodded and closed her eyes too. Simon's paws were warm in hers, and they were so quiet she could hear Edgar's wings fluttering gently near her ear. Her heart felt warm and fluttery in the lovely sunlight with Simon, his clever birds, and poor dear Edgar. Opening her green eyes, she whispered "That way." pointing in the direction Simon was standing.

"then let's head out without a moment of hesitation." he said with a soft smile that would light up anyone's day. He held onto sophie's hand as he turned. "doubt will never help along the way." he said softly, remembering the words of some of his family. when you're family's that big and growing, you learn quite a bit on your first meeting with them.

Sophie smiled back, happy to have some encouragement. "Baron said something awfully similar to that." she said, following Simon in that direction, Edgar on her shoulder. "I'm sure we're headed in the right direction." She felt more hopeful, like she could accomplish this quest, a feeling she was beginning to lose once she had resorted to looking in Alistair's closet.

Simon walked as his grip loosened on her hand. 'maybe i can build a butterfly for Edage...' he thought to himself. 'but i don't want to push Edgar out of Sophie's life...' he continued his thought beofre taking a step straight down a cliff that was quite tall for a mouse. 'eeep~' he said in fright as he fell straight into the small stream at the bottom of the cliff. The birds had known there might've been water so they flew to try protect themselves.

Since she was holding onto his had, Sophie ended up tumbling after him. "OH!" she gasped, landing with a splash near Simon. Looking around her for Edgar and Simon's birds. Once she made sure they hadn't taken a tumble as well she began to laugh. "Well, that was exciting." she said between giggles. "Are you all right?"

"yep, are you okay after the fall? sorry you got dragged into this water. let's go get dried off." he said as he swam nearer to the edge of the water. "need help?" he asked her before getting out. His birds had still been flying up above them, but more close to Simon now seeing if he and Sophie was okay.

Sophie shook her head. "I'm okay." she said. Climbing up, she watched Edgar fly up ahead. She shuffled her feet. "He's going to leave soon you know. He's going to fly to Mexico once he finds someone." Pausing, she looked wistfully ahead. "He's a very nice butterfly. One of my best friends. But..." she swallowed, as if this was hard to say. "I want him to go. Because that means he'll be happy. He's not happy here, he's miserable. And him being happy is all a friend could ask for."

"yea. truthfully, machines can never really feel happiness. and building him a mate would probably make him feel inferior." he said before he got on all fours and shook off the water like a young puppy dog, spraying water everywhere just a little ways from Sophie but still didn't make her more wet than she already was.

Sophie nodded. "It's a tricky problem." she agreed. "But a real butterfly is best for Edgar." She looked ahead. "Well, we've come this far one way or another. Let's keep moving forward." She didn't even know where they were anymore. Up until now she had never ventured very far from home. The outside had always been intimidating, but now she had a reason to be out here it wasn't so bad. "Is it true machines can never feel? Your birds seem so real, it's almost like they can..." she said hesitantly.

"they are only programmed that way. no matter how much information they have, no matter how realistic they feel, they can never feel love like a real bird or a mouse or a human." he said softly as he put out his hand an Faith decided to sit on his hand.

Sophie's eyes softened, thinking she might recognize Simon's tone of voice. When one didn't have many friends, when one found friends in things they could never fully be a part of, never fully be accepted by it could pull on your heartstrings. It hurt being reminded you could never really be friends. She put a paw on his. "I'm sorry." she whispered. "I shouldn't have said anything."

"don't worry." He said with a soft smile. "it's not offending or anything. plus, it's only the truth." he added. He closed his eyes and took a breath as the three took refugee on his head again. their metal butts on his head, warm from the running motor after they had flown. He breathed the fresh air as he turned back to see Sophie with a smile and the cliff behind her.

Sophie looked relieved. Closing her eyes, she said "I think... We should follow the stream." That seemed to be a good way to her. "What do you think? Is your heart telling you anything?" she asked curiously. "I'll bet we're nearly there." Smiling at Edgar encouragingly, she stretched out an arm for him to land on.

"it seems perfectly fine to go with the stream. But what does Edgar want? maybe he has special onarch butterfly powers to tell him where to go." he said softly. He has always fantasized and had odd plans for anything! He hadn't read up on butterflies and especially not Monarch butterflies but he knew they were supposed to be large, quite large compared to a human too!

Sophie looked at Edgar expectantly. "Do you?" she said curiously. "You never told me about any special powers!" Looking mad, after a few reconcilatory wing flutters from Edgar, she relaxed. "Okay, I guess I can forgive you. But next time don't be so shy! That could have really helped us!" Edgar's antennae drooped in embarrassment, but he got up and fluttered to and fro, thinking. Then he set off towards the setting sun. "Wow!" Sophie said. "Special butterfly powers!"
