RP 1 - Hide and Seek

-Met Maria

Here

Geez, it sure was hard to get a straight answer out of her! I mean, one has to be careful, but when you're asked point blank you ought to answer. And she has no idea what she's doing, so I can't believe she even knew how to get in in the first place.

Who works for Miss Floros here, me or her? Eh? And what's with the coughing?

Poseidon couldn't tell me anything about Izanami other than that she's never been much of a threat before.

RP 2 - Capture the Flag

-Met Writ

Here

Maria again! Geez! Why does she keep showing up? Is she stalking me or something? Well, she's still coughing, which I don't get, but we met Writ who was grade A awesome, so it's all good, right?

-Met Crow
-Met Len
-BLACKSUIT!

Here

We sure showed those boys, huh? But then that Blacksuit showed up...

Anyway, Maria was there again. What's her problem? There should be laws against being the stupid. I mean, she wanted us to fight the guy. If she has a death wish, fine, but I'm not going down with her!

Crow's pretty cool, but Len gives me the creeps.

RP 4 - A Small Rock Holds Back a Great Wave

-Met Ciro
-Allied with Ciro

Here

Ciro? He's okay. I think he should talk to his god a bit more, but it's not really my problem. We're supposed to be allies against some Cthulhu fellow, who I think might be Len's god. This is going to get messy, I think.

I talked to him for a while and he seemed to warm up a bit. He's got horns, which is pretty awesome. I think I told him too much, though...

Solo RP 1

Fish dreamed of the ocean. It is important to differentiate the ocean from the harbor, because the harbor was small and polluted at best and probably not an excellent place to swim (even if Fish did swim in it.) Beyond the harbor was the sea, even more polluted than the harbor, and hovercraft and cargo ships made the perilous journey city to city on the sea. But the ocean, what Fish was dreaming of, was not the harbor and it was not the sea. It was wild and storm tossed at the surface, but calm beneath the waves. And most of all, it wasn't radioactive. The ocean was pure.

Fish liked dreaming of the ocean. He even sometimes dared to think that maybe the ocean was his real home, and he had been born into the wrong place at the wrong time.

This night, Fish was dreaming that he was sitting on a large bubble couch in the coral gardens of Poseidon's palace, reading an ancient greek text about a boy with wings who flew too close to the sun. His nighttime visits to Poseidon's undersea kingdom were fairly regular occurrences, as the god insisted Fish knew about the customs and legends of the culture he was to represent.

Fish finished the story and looked around the garden. Spires of coral reached above his head towards the distant glint of moonlight on the surface. The garden was illuminated by yellow bioluminescent algae and plankton concentrated into small sphere nestled in the coral branches.

At the other end of the garden, coming down the path from the palace, Fish spotted Poseidon. The god was still in his form from earlier, looking like an older and more world-weary version of his prophet. Fish got up and dismissed the bubble.

"Sir," he said to the approaching god. Poseidon nodded to him.

"Walk the paths with me, Fish. We have things to discuss."

Fish followed him into the kelp maze in the center of the garden, keeping a step or two behind. The god motioned for him to walk at his side instead.

"You understand I have to do this?" Poseidon asked. "I have to give you every advantage I can."

Fish wasn't sure how to respond. It seemed to him that no matter what he said, the god would still do whatever "this" was. "I do," he replied, deciding to agree. "You want me to win."

"I want us to win," corrected Poseidon. "We're a team, Fish, you and I. You're my ward, not my dog. I'm trying to make decisions that will benefit you."

Fish nodded. He hadn't thought of it in that way. After all, were gods supposed to bother with little kids?

"Like, this right now. I have to do it because I don't want you to get killed."

"Of course, sir," answered Fish. They turned a corner and arrived at the center of the paths. The kelp around them twisted and turned in the current, like ethereal curtains hiding something from view. Poseidon showed him down a path on the left.

"Fish, when you awake, promise me..."

"Promise you what, sir?"

"Promise me you won't panic."

"I promise."

Poseidon left Fish at the edge of the Paths and strode back towards the palace, an air of self-determination hanging about him. Fish conjured up a few bubbles on which to lie down on and end the dream.

Bit by bit, the coral garden vanished into the darkness of sleep.

In the dreamless hours of the early morning, after Fish's visit had ended, Poseidon stretched his influence over the child's physical body. He lengthened the boy's limbs, toned his muscled, kick-started the glands he would need, and aged his mind. Fish remained asleep the whole time.

Before the god's presence left, it whispered, "Don't panic."

The Morning After

Fish groaned and rolled out of bed, hitting the ground with a thud only slightly muffled by bed sheets. His mouth felt dry and gross, like someone had force-fed him a bag of cotton swabs. His legs were sorer than they'd ever been. Everything about him felt large and heavy, though he wasn't quite sure why.

He fought his way to a standing position and noticed the ground seemed awfully far away and that his pajamas were now several inches too short. Licking his dry lips, he fumbled his way to the mirror and looked at himself.

That accomplished, Fish's first instinct was to panic. But then he remembered his promise and bit firmly down on his lip. No, bad Fish. You don't do that.

Instead he decided to get out of the house early and go looking for answers. After a salvage trip to the supply closet to find a new set of wet-suit pieces that would actually fit for the time being, he gulped down a glass of water from the sink and slipped outside into the early morning light, trident in hand.

He rushed forward to meet the day.

The Might of the Oceans

Fish, murmured Poseidon's voice. Fish, who had been basking on the roof of his family's Harbor home, was stirred from his thoughts.

"Yes sir?" he whispered, sitting up. He had an excellent view of the glittering blue bay from here, and then also of the shining, shifting-colored sea beyond it. Fishing boats bobbed on the bay, and every so often a cargo tanker went through the locks at the distant end of the cove, bound for destinations unknown. The harbor district curved with the land, encircling the water with a labyrinth of docks and marinas.

Get down off the roof and head for the water, instructed the god. Fish began to move, wincing momentarily as he touched ran down the hot tin roof and landing in a crouch. The Stewart family home was a squat, small one-story dwelling, done in cheery blue but sun-faded stucco and with nautical doors and windows that had probably been stolen off of some decommissioned boat. The roof was mostly sloped tin, but had a flat platform at the top that Fish liked to lie on. And the tin could get incredibly hot.

The concrete was just as hot and Fish darted across the street, dodging rickshaws, cars, bicycles, and trucks. "Do I go in?" he questioned.

Not yet, answered the god. You already have your water-breathing.

Fish had discovered that power entirely by accident after falling overboard while fishing with his father.

"What then?" he asked, studying the sloshing water below him.

I want to show you a new trick, explained Poseidon. Reach out...

Fish did so, and felt incredibly stupid.

Now, grab the water with your mind.

Fish, feeling like he was being had, complied with the command. To his surprise, the water rushed upwards, splashed against his palm, and rained down back into the ocean.

"Woah," he gasped. "I did that?" The watery place in his mind burbled and affirmative. He tried it again, pulling the water up in small geysers, making it take form - spheres and ribbons and jets. "What else can I do?"

You can concentrate the moisture in the air in the same way you are taking water from the sea, said Poseidon. You can use it to aid you, or as a weapon against your enemies.

"Yeah," said Fish, making a sphere of water dance a lazy circle around a pylon. "But how can water be a weapon?"

Oh, I don't doubt you'll figure it out, assured the god, and the burbling went quiet. The conversation was over.

My irrigation system broke.

It took Fish a moment to realize where he was upon waking. Huge pillars of seaweed twirled gently in some unfelt current, and he was lying in a wide clearing. In the center, a few yards off, was a small round glass house with curling green copper shaped organically around the sides. Fish had never seen it before, but he recognized the architecture as matching some of the pavilions in Poseidon's realm.

Fish got to his feet and stretched before approaching the building. While Poseidon's realm was almost always lit be sunlight filtering down through the water, this building glowed with the light of a golden orb in the ceiling. The current pushed Fish towards the door and he opened it to find himself in one of the chambers that marked the entrance to all of the buildings in Poseidon's realm. Water drained away and the door on the other side flipped open.

Stepping through the door, Fish found himself inside a greenhouse that reminded him vaguely of Seasons, though when he drew closer to each of the enormous plants, he found them to be in the process of wilting, and the loamy soil very dry.

"My irrigation system broke," explained Poseidon from behind him. Fish turned around to see the god had come in behind him, or already been there, because he was dry and Fish was leaving wet footprints on the marble floor. "Demeter and Persephone set my garden up for me when I confessed I missed dry land plant life. And its worked well for me, though recently the irrigation has fouled up."

"I'm sorry, sir," said Fish, gazing at a drooping orange tree burdened by withering fruits. "Sir, who are Demeter and Persephone?"

"Demeter is my sister, a harvest goddess. I have five siblings. Zeus, the king of us all, is my younger brother, and Hades of the Underworld is my elder brother. Our other sisters are Hestia of the hearth, and Hera of union and prosperity. Together the six of us compose the most fundamental aspects of our culture," explained Poseidon.

"And who is Persephone?" prompted Fish.

"Demeter's daughter. She is a goddess of seasons and plantlife, and she is married to Hades. Her coming and going from the underworld determines the seasons."

Fish frowned. "She sounds familiar."

"That's because you know her," answered the god with a hint of smugness.

Fish stared at the plants, trying to figure out where he had seen such meticulously arranged ivy before. He nearly choked. "Not Miss Floros!" he cried.

Poseidon nodded. "Persy Floros is the assumed name of Persephone in her mortal form. She thought herself rather clever, fleeing to Earth as she did, choosing her profession as she did..."

The rest was lost on Fish, who was reeling from the revelation. Miss Floros had, indeed, told him she was a goddess bound to mortal form, and he should have made the connection before. Poseidon had used her full name, even! He ought to have connected it before, but to think Miss Floros was a close relative of his mentor was odd.

"I need you to go to Seasons and ask her how to fix this problem,"explained Poseidon. "She ought to know the system well enough."

Fish frowned. "Why don't you go there yourself?" he asked.

The god sighed heavily and inspected a wilting tree. "There are rules for us Gods when it comes to the game," he explained. "There are designated areas we may appear in the City. We may come and go from Anubis's dwelling as we wish, but to enter Persephone's realm we must accompany our prophet."

"Why can't you bring her here?"

"Oh, she wouldn't take kindly to that," chuckled Poseidon. "Now why don't you run along before this problem gets any worse?"

What is that thing?
Fish emerged from the Realms with a gasp as cold and turbulent water hit his gills. Perhaps something had gone wrong in his re-emergence and he was somewhere else entirely? The current tugged at him and he reached out blindly, finding one of the trusses supporting the dock and pulling himself towards it to hug it.

As his eyes adjusted to the murky water, he could spy a throttling vortex at the center of the harbor, and a strange murky shape at the bottom. Dark energy nipped at his pores, and Fish was overcome by the need to get out of the water. He scrambled from pylon to pylon, completely disoriented in the current, and rejoiced upon encountering a ladder. Breathing hard, he pulled himself up and out onto the dock even as the whirlpool endeavored to suck him down.

Once safe on the pier, Fish stared back at the churning water. What boats could be saved were heavily chained to the dock or lifted out onto the lanes that ran between the water and the housing blocks. Happily, Fish saw his father's boat was still intact. But that was only a momentary relief. Something in the city was desperately wrong.

And despite that she had lied to him, or at least told a partial truth, he knew Miss Floros would know what was wrong.
