La Veuve Zin Scribblemouse Do you want such an important decision to be swayed by the nuts in those kinds of centres? God no. Those Planned Parenthood employees can be ruthless! I.Am brought the point up that PP employees have something to gain if you accept their services, but after hearing that only 1 in 10 of all enlisted services of PP is abortion, I have a feeling that perhaps PP employees are just run of the mill lackies who take names, hand out forms, and just carry out basic Pap tests and other ob/gyn like services. My pro-life bias tells me that money can make a demon out of anyone (Pro-choice: bad) but my common sense tells me religious zealots can be maniacally crazy (Pro-life: bad). Meh.

kp606 Beware the Jabberwock Tiger of the Fire 12 times higher? Releife? Hmmm...i guess many abortion advocates dont consider the long run. Many woman who feel releife after an abortion WILL later in life feel remorse, guilt, and regret. Birth is 12 times higher a risk then abortion? Are they still bassing this off the number of deaths by abortion to the number of deaths by carrying to term? Well, sinc emore woman in this country carry to term then abort, I'd have to say, yeah, birth is gogin to look more dangerous. I'd be willing to accept that there may be more of an immidiat and colateral risk of birth then abortion, but 12 times? I believe Miranda once said that you cant base a statistic off of comparing one end total to another, as the entire amount of each may differ. I don't remember saying that actually. XD Though a statistic would be based on the amount of deaths vs. the amount of people alive thus it shouldn't vary as much. Unless they're grouping the carrying to term women and the women who have abortions together and then getting the statistics from there.
That aside it probably also doesn't take into account that your pregnant for almost 10 months, so of course your chances of dying are higher, there's a longer time period in which you can die.
Plus one of the things that they seem to count a lot is the fact that pregnant women are more likely to be killed by their spouse. Because they don't seem to grasp that correlation =/= causation. This is interesting. See what I found on this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternal_deathAccording to the World Health Organization, whether you die because of an abortion or because of complications experienced during labor, it still falls underneath the same statistics. So, a pregnant woman is still faced with death REGARDLESS and medically that causation is grouped the same. Also: Pregnancy in the 20th century has taken massive leaps. If you read that article it states it has become 99% more healthy and that 1 in 10,000 pregnancies will end fatally. This puts a more tangible number onto the scenario, as opposed to "TWELVES TIMES MORE DANGEROUS!" The more you know. Also their statistics probably include non-first world countries. Considering that I'm not arguing abortion "rights" in Botswana I don't really care about the maternal mortality rate there.
Well not in the same way at least. Thought I should add that in so I don't get lynched. XD

Scribblemouse divineseraph technically, it's not murder. technically, the holocaust was not murder. technically, lynching was not murder. catch my drift? Actualy, no, which part are you referring to? i was reffering to his saying that abortion was the murder of innocents. technically, since feti aren't "people", it's not murder. blacks were not people in the 1800's. so killing them was leagl and not murder. they were just farm animals, beasts of burden, clumps of cells, machines.

And if it's not murder, it's okay, because the law is always morally right. About who's a person, about what's okay to kill, etc.

It's funny, when I read this article I wasn't really thinking about the controversy. At this point in life I'm dreafully poor, and if my boyfriend and I had a baby I don't think we could take care of it without assistance. I found myself wondering if these centers would offer me the assistance for the good of the baby, or if it wouldn't apply because I wasn't Christian or considering abortion in the first place. Do you know if they would?
Not like I'm planning on getting pregant and demanding assistance, but in case contraception fails (as it often does) it would be nice to know.

I seriously doubt that they only offer their services to Christians or people who were going to seek out abortions.

Okay, well, if it comes to that I'm sure there are plenty of those in Texas. It's nice to see people actually doing something to help. I can really feel why they're doing it, and I'm happy that slowly people are building up alternatives. I liked the abortionists/pro-life people getting together and trying to help out in the end. That seems like the first step to non-medical abortions becoming obsolete.
