Melikochan I have nothing too substantial to contribute aside from "I agree." (Also, pretty angsty boy heroes =/= a good game, and I am female. Of course I'm also a dyke, but I'd like to believe that more females would not object to an alternative hero.) Haha, well, if you'll bring it up... I'm female as well. I had mentioned it in the original post in anticipation of people finding that statement sexist, but what with having a male avatar and all, it seemed out of place. After all, I generally prefer being gender ambiguous online. wink Rena was a disappointment as a female lead.

One of the most flattering response I've ever gotten, if just a tiny bit lewd... mrgreen I must say, though, I'm glad to be here, and you're spot on; the last time I let slip I was female, I was veritably barraged with PICS.NOW posts, a few of which I found to be serious, which is partially the reason for my preference in choosing male/gender-ambiguous screen names and avatars; it garners less unwanted attention. Expect to see something about an experience I had over the weekend soon. It'll be quite the write-up, and I can't possibly get it done tonight, time-strapped as I am, but it has to do with my local GameStop, and possibly being a female gamer in general. I'd like your opinion on it most, Melikochan, and I hope you weren't offended by my over-generalization - I'm afraid the majority of posters on GameFAQs need things told more exaggeratedly to get the point across. In no way do I assume that all, or even a large majority of female gamers think in that manner; I am, however, basing that off of personal experience, online and among my acquaintances, where I'm somewhat ostracized for not seeing the importance of Link/Cloud/whomever's "hotness". And for my general predilection for gritty, "heavier" games. BTW, could you tell my gender from my writing style? In another discussion, someone asserted that they could ascertain my gender from my writing style, while most maintained that my femaleness came as a complete shock. Just curious. Girls don't generally post such lengthy analyses of games (especially older games), apparently, since that tends to be the first thing that people note when I make my "big reveal". Of course, there may have been other factors than word choice, such as subject matter, vague references, etc. I personally couldn't tell your gender from your writing style, in any case. (Apparently I'm gender-neutral: 22450 female to 22663 male. Maybe I've been doing technical writing for too long.) I don't know about girls not making lengthy posts, but that they don't play older games as much doesn't surprise me. There just weren't that many female gamers in the eighties/early nineties, and, in my experience, people tend not to play many games from before the technology level that was around when they first got into the scene. (For instance, very few people acknowledge the supremacy of Wasteland and Out of This World.)

If any stock is to be put into The Gender Genie, I'm pretty boyish; most of my posts are more male than female in tone. Unfortunately, I've encountered too many fangirls and too few female gamers who care past basic gameplay and graphics. It's made me rather cynical about it all. Hopefully, with time, more people (and not just girls - it is a general trend) will care less about the aesthetics and more about the substance.
