Me and My Gang and Stand are two of my faves. As for them being boy band-ish, I can see what you mean, but I still like their music, regardless of the fact.

What about Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, or Big and Rich?

Bits and Pieces about Asmi-chan's Original Stuff

Kuro Abunai:
Once I become fluent in Japanese, this manga will feature three languages. The languages are English, Japanese, and a language I'm making up myself, Ngait (for pronunciation, think of it like 'negate,' but the 'ne' part is just barely there). That doesn't mean you'll have to be trilingual to read it. There will be subtitles in the manga itself for whatever language you read in. In fact, I plan on having three different versions, one subtitled in English, one subtitled in Japanese, and a special edition subtitled in Ngait.
Of the seven characters, one is fluent in all three languages, two are fluent in both English and Japanese, one is fluent in Japanese and has a basic knowledge of English, and three are simply fluent in Japanese. This story does start out in Japan, after all.
Ngait is a language that, when spoken, the meaning depends heavily on the context and expression of the person speaking, and when written, it depends on the color used to write the characters. The language is used on Tsoki, a planet that the characters find themselves on in the third manga. It has two variations, Ie Ngait and Do Ngait, which differentiate mainly in the use of 'Do' (doh). Do Ngait uses the word excessively, while Ie Ngait considers it taboo and replaces 'Do' with 'Da' on the rare occasion that it is used.

This information is probably completely meaningless and boring to anybody that reads this, but I just felt like updating with something.

Asmi-chan's Character Spotlight

It's time for Asmi-chan's third character spotlight. This time, I'll feature a character that I haven't even mentioned yet, from an original story I didn't even elaborate on all that much.
It's...

Kidiru Midori
Kuro Abunai

14 years old
Turquoise Hair
Green eyes
5' 6"

In the future, scientists have found a way to change someone's hair color genetically, even to something that wouldn't normally be considered a natural color. From that point on, the person with genetically altered hair passes on that gene to offspring. By that process, Kidiru's turquoise hair is completely natural, while her father's is artificial.
But, that's not really important in the story or towards the knowledge of her character. Just a little tidbit I thought I'd share.

Kidiru Midori is a freshman at the highly acclaimed military school in the story, Fuji No Gakoo Dome. She's the top Weaponry student at the school, thanks in part to her father's job in a military warehouse, and loves shooter games, hunting, and paintball. She's also a complete chocoholic, and is in a constant state of bouncing-off-the-walls-hyperactivity. This provides plenty of opportunities for comic relief, especially when paired with either a very health-conscious vegetarian or two people that don't care for chocolate in the least.

Anything else I could say about her would be a little too much spoiler, so I'll end it here. Yeah, I know you're all soooooo disappointed. rolleyes

That's the Character Spotlight of this random time interval. The next one might be posted the next hour, the next day, the next week, the next two and a half weeks, the next month, the next 167 days, or even the next year. Expect the unexpected, or better yet, don't expect anything at all! That's the surest way not to be disappointed. This is Asmi-chan bidding you 'Ja ne!'

The Joy of MSTing

Whenever I feel like either torturing myself or making fun of bad writing, I head down to fanfiction.net, find the worst fanfics possible, and pick it to pieces. Right now, I'm working on a little fanfic MSTing series inspired by the likes of Card Captor Science Theater 3000 and starring my own Essence of Final Fantasy original characters.

One day, you might get to experience the excitement as my characters put up with obnoxiously blatant Mary Sues and finish sentences for those that leave off the punctuation. They're either bored to tears or ranting about the implausibility of a fanfic, because in bad fanfiction, middle ground is hard to come by. There's Golden Plot Device Fountains, Mary Sues that wage wars against spell-check and grammar-check, personality transplants, and a lemon so bad that one character has to take a vacation to overcome the trauma.

I've actually got fourteen horrible fanfics in the works, none finished. That being the case, I'll simply post a fragment of one of them for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy. (parts of the actual fanfic in bold)

Quote:
Cherise and Sora had a pretty normal life as two teenagers on Destiny Islands. They were both sophomores at Destiny High School and they had four best friends; Riku, Kairi, Brittany and Jared. Cherise lived in a nice blue house with her two brothers and her dad, Sora on the other hand lived in a nice dark blue house right next to hers but with his twin brother and his father.
They never knew what really happened to their mothers. Their dads haven’t really talked much really about the subject.

Harm: I have an idea! Let's make up personalities for the original characters.
Randol: Why would you want to do that?
Harm: Well, it doesn't sound like the author's going to. Cherise should be a spoiled little princess that believes Sora will marry her someday, Kairi notwithstanding.
Nadrei: I'm game. Brittany... Brittany should be a pseudo-goth. You know, one of those people that wear black and chains and tries to be dark and depressing in their Linkin Park and Marilyn Manson t-shirts?
Niko: I'll take Jared, in that case. He'll be that annoying guy that everybody tries to get rid of but won't take a hint.
Cid: Just like you, you mean?
Niko: I was thinking more of Sanders, actually.

One afternoon in June, Cherise was hanging out with Sora, Roxas(Sora’s twin),Brittany, Kairi and Riku, who were fishing off three large rocks in the sea.

Cid: They had ditched Jared at the local Subway,

Sora just sat there, staring at the horizon. Cherise sat next to Sora, thinking about what to do.

Harm: So, our wedding will be held in Beast's Castle, the reception in The World That Never Was, and I was thinking Atlantica for our honeymoon, what do you think?
Randol: *sighs* Kairi, she's doing it again...

The seven friends were all silent, until Brittany and Kairi brought up mother’s day.

Nadrei: *monotone* These fish are symbolic of my life. Once I was stupid and believed there was a worm of happiness right in front of my face, only to have it pull me in and painfully suffocate the life out of me. Now I am nothing but a hollow shell, waiting only to be eaten by ravenous teenagers.
Cid: Um... Mother's Day is coming up, isn't it?

“So what are you guys going to be doing for your mom on mother’s day?” asked Brittany to Kairi and Riku.

Nadrei: I'm gonna die for my mom. Everything would be better if I was never born.
Randol: Nadrei, you're actually starting to worry me.

It took me a while to read through all this, but I did it. Your NYP story is really good and vaguely reminds me of the Thursday Next series, which I highly enjoy. Your Final Fantasy story sounds interesting as well, you should post some of it some time. The Fanfic thing is hilarious. rofl Can't wait to see more.

As you were talking about bands a few posts up, I thought I would add my opinion. I hate boybands and country. xp Everything I do like no ones ever heard of, or at least not very many people have. My favorite bands are They Might Be Giants, Jethro Tull, and Venus Hum.

Thank you for taking the time to comment in my humble corner. I'm glad you enjoyed it, cause I had to take precious time away from doing English homework to work on these disorganized fragments. Not that I minded or anything.

I haven't worked on NYP in a while, sadly. Might post some of Essence of Final Fantasy one day, but for now, you must remain woefully ignorant of the actual story. As for your taste in music, I've heard of They Might Be Giants, but I don't know what they sing. As for the other two, no idea.

By the way, I just voted for the 'I've seen more talent among the preteen Mary Sues of Kingdom Hearts fanfiction' option just because I didn't want to have to click the 'View Results' button every time to see how many have voted.

Wow, sorry it's been so long since I've been on here. I liked the Final Fantisy one, that was funny. Mcfeegle, you've read the Thrusday Next books? How is it that we read all the same stuff? There's that new one out but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

I love Thursday Next! I haven't gotten through all of them yet, though. I just started The Well of Lost Plots. Have you read The Big Over Easy? It's by the same guy.

I haven't read the 4th Bear one yet, but I really want to. The Big Over Easy was the first Jasper Fforde book that I read. It really makes me laugh when Jack Spratt and Mary Mary are sitting there wondering if Nursery characters know that their Nursery characters. ^_^

It gets even better once you read all the thrusday next books, they are referanced in one of them. It makes reading the big over easy even funnier.

I've actually never heard of Thursday Next. Have to look into it sometime.

By the way, I'm starting college next week. If I were a more consistent poster, that might actually affect the amount of content added to this thread, but as is, you guys won't even notice a difference.

See, there are some benefits to a spontaneous work ethic after all. Since you've all been so great, the next post features the actual beginning of Essence of Final Fantasy.
