Moonlight Mentalist If you can convince me that FFTA is in anyway at the level of caliber to FFT... I'll give you all my gold -.- Oh, I never meant that. I was simply irked by the amount of bashing I saw; IMO, it wasn't the failure that some people make it out to have been.

Moonlight Mentalist If you can convince me that FFTA is in anyway at the level of caliber to FFT... I'll give you all my gold -.- Any way, you say? Any single way? Alrighty, then. FFTA is an excellently-crafted game about the trials of growing up, its unpleasant realities and having to face your life as it is and make the best out of it even when it's not a happy one, and the dangers of using escapism, the example being in this case video games (the very ones from whose series this one is from, no less), to avoid the truths you don't like, all through the characters of children dealing with problems that are sadly very common for kids: divorced parents, disabilities, being shy, being new to a place, death of a parent, and being different. There is no epic plot of saving a land or world or any such thing; if anything, you are out to DESTROY the world instead. FFT is an magnificently-crafted game about heroism, family love, politics, and several forms of faith, following a young man and his allies, nearly all people who refuse to compromise their heroism and love, even in the face of society, death, and evil forces even death, as they save their world and fade to obscurity, having stood up for what was right even though it cost them their lives--if not physically, then at least mentally, as they are branded as Heretics and can never go back to living the way they had once. Conclusion: FFT is original. FFTA is much, much MORE original.

Cross Knight Byuu Moonlight Mentalist If you can convince me that FFTA is in anyway at the level of caliber to FFT... I'll give you all my gold -.- Oh, I never meant that. I was simply irked by the amount of bashing I saw; IMO, it wasn't the failure that some people make it out to have been. He was probably talking to me cause I was the one who said he had a hooker mouth. The battle system has been much improved. You can move your character and then return them to their starting position unlike FFT. If someone dies you don't have to revive them at the risk of them turning into a crystal. Quicksave function. Much easier to get more allies. Doesn't contain elements from FFVII, even though god knows it needs the attention. The first mission isn't mind blowingly hard for a begining mission. You don't have to learn the item command. Random battles are avoidable. Totemas are rather helpful in a pinch but aren't mind blowingly broken. As Ess said, the plot is much more original and interesting. Learning abilites had been simplified. Cids a drunkard and much cooler than he was in FFT. You get to give some whiney emo kid his come uppance. Need I go on? FFTA is so awesome a game. But FFT is okay. I just liked it better when it was called Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber.

Ugh. Dude, everything felt off about FFTA's battle system in comparison to the smooth flow of crazily complex match madness that FFT pulled off. Like comparing a time-travelling flying Delorean (FFT) to that truck that Wolverine drives in the first X-Men movie (FFTA).
Also, calling FFTA Cid cooler than Cidolfus Orlandu, Thunder God Cid, the patron saint of Batman-Level Asskicking in RPGs? Shame. Shame.

Cidolfas is old. Cid is young. Cidolfas is encontered late in the game. Cid is encountered early. Cidolfas has an old man beard. Cid has a kickin goatee. Cidolfas gets framed for murder. Cid's ethics are so superb hat he cuts himself away from the palace and joins up with Marche. I win.
And FFTAs battle system may not be as smooth or whatever, but I think if what it adds, the ones I mentioned, puts it above FFT. Another thing I forgot to add, you don't have to move the camera around to see everyone as the battefields.

Sieg Reyu.2 Cidolfas is old. Cid is young. Which...automatically makes Orlandu several times more awesome. What's more awesome than owning someone's punk a** with a dude with a beard? Owning someone's punk a** with a dude with a beard who's 50+ years older than them. Quote: Cidolfas is encontered late in the game. Cid is encountered early. The...logic behind this is escaping my understanding. Particularly since, in terms of actual USE, Orlandu joins your team considerably earlier than Cid. Like, Actually During The Game earlier. Quote: Cidolfas has an old man beard. Cid has a kickin goatee. Dude. Don't make me slap you. Old Man Beards are hardcore awesome. 90% of the best beards you see on old guys. Goatees are lame. They're like ordering Ginger Ale at a bar to try to fit in without actually fitting in. Everyone can still tell the difference and you just look silly. Quote: Cidolfas gets framed for murder. Cid's ethics are so superb hat he cuts himself away from the palace and joins up with Marche. ...So...for being accused of a crime he didn't commit and getting put on society's black list...Orlandu is inferior to Cid, who is accused of a crime he DID commit and is put on society's black list? No. Quote: And FFTAs battle system may not be as smooth or whatever, but I think if what it adds, the ones I mentioned, puts it above FFT. Another thing I forgot to add, you don't have to move the camera around to see everyone as the battefields. Everything you've said has been so incredibly minor that I had to actually think back and realize for the first time that, yes, those were things in FFTA that weren't in FFT. Everything major for a battle system, like the flow of combat, playability, simplicity of play, and complexity of system, was superior in FFT. Not to mention that these: Quote: Much easier to get more allies. Quote: You get to give some whiney emo kid his come uppance. Aren't even true.

Sieg Reyu.2 FFTA is so awesome a game. But FFT is okay. I just liked it better when it was called Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. I don't know what you're thinking. Tactics is an entirely different beast from Ogre Battle 64. It'd be a much truer statement if you said "But FFTA is okay. I just liked it better when it was called Tactics Ogre." Unless you mean the storyline, then well, yeah. Sieg Reyu.2 And FFTAs battle system may not be as smooth or whatever, but I think if what it adds, the ones I mentioned, puts it above FFT. Another thing I forgot to add, you don't have to move the camera around to see everyone as the battefields. Everything you listed before about improvements in the battle system are just additions to make the game easier for people who don't bother thinking. All of those things can be easily remedied just by planning ahead in Tactics. You're supposed to check the movement and attack range of both your character and your enemy's character before you decide to move. God forbid that you be punished for making a mistake and run the risk of losing a valuable character. Quicksave function can be abused. You can easily gain allies in Tactics by purchasing them at the recruitment offices in town. Cloud played a cameo role and did not affect the story at all, only a small side mission to get him in your party. The first battle is only hard if you're brain dead. The item commands are to encourage you to level your characters as different jobs. You won't even need Totema in Tactics if you planned properly. The way you learn abilities in Tactics Advance is much worse from being able to pick and choose which abilities you wanted to learn first in Tactics. Do I need to go on? Tactics Advance doesn't add, it subtracts from the depth of the battle system Tactics had going. In addition to a few things I stated previously, having classes limited to the race of the character also limits the amount of customization that can be put into the character. No longer can you have a ninja with monk skills, because they're for two different races. No longer can you equip a gun-wielding class with the knight's Break skills because they're for two different races. Tactics Advance is completely inferior to Tactics in terms of battle system. Also, the law system in Tactics Advance. Brilliant idea, isn't it.

I'm a more hands on type of person. When I play Chess it is hard for me to plan ahead with out actually sort of being able to see what while happen. Which is way I love that rule where as long as you are holding the chess piece you can continue your move. That way I can get a better picture of who I will be able to get and who will be able to get me. And in no way can quicksave be abused. Its their if you need to stop playing so that way you can turn it off conserving energy. The quicksave lets you continue from where you are at. If you die, or turn it off or whatever you go back to the last time you actually saved. By first battle, I mean the one where the thieves over run the town, not the one were you only play Ramza. Some one died everytime and I couldn't get my chemists there in time to have someone use a curative on them. Its the only game where you have to learn the item command. I can see maybe making it where they could use like an item without wasting one from the stock and mix items. That would be a good job. And it wasn't so much the way you got them, but how you got the ability points to learn them. You had to take actions to get points and this way, even your weakest characters can get abilites just as much as your strongest characters do. Sio In addition to a few things I stated previously, having classes limited to the race of the character also limits the amount of customization that can be put into the character. Sio Also, the law system in Tactics Advance. Brilliant idea, isn't it. Why yes, yes it was. Its a brilliant little system with a little bit of strategy and cards can be used to benefit yourself with the recommend or hurt the enemies. @Ess: Okay fine, Cidolfas wins, but I'm giving Cid a close second. And Mewt gets what was coming for him. He learned his lesson to stop leaning on the past and live your life for today. I don't know if come uppance was the right term I was looking for, but Mewt was soooo whiney and emo.

I was bullied mercilessly in elementary and Middle School. He threw tantrums cause he wasn't getting what he wanted. If you wanna know what I thinkis acceptable, then here. When the story book world was created him and his parents would spend every second together and do family stuff. When Marche threatened to ruin it, he would have hunted him down himself and talked with him about it. Then declare war, but not expect everyone else to do his dirty work.

Which is way I love that rule where as long as you are holding the chess piece you can continue your move. That way I can get a better picture of who I will be able to get and who will be able to get me. Which is why the game asks you if you're sure you want to move to the tile before actually finalizing it. Sieg Reyu.2 And in no way can quicksave be abused. Its their if you need to stop playing so that way you can turn it off conserving energy. The quicksave lets you continue from where you are at. If you die, or turn it off or whatever you go back to the last time you actually saved. Alright, I give here. I never made use of the quick save function myself and thought it was like Tactics Ogre (which is what I've been playing recently). Sieg Reyu.2 By first battle, I mean the one where the thieves over run the town, not the one were you only play Ramza. Like I said, you'd have to be brain dead to have trouble with this battle. It's ridiculously easy, even with basic knowledge of how the game works. The only possible way you could have someone die is if you decided to charge one character into a whole mess of them and get attacked from all four directions, which happens in just about every other sRPG. Sieg Reyu.2 Why yes, yes it was. Its a brilliant little system with a little bit of strategy and cards can be used to benefit yourself with the recommend or hurt the enemies. Gee, swords are against the law today, just about all my melee got ******** over. I see no strategy involved with the law system.

Well, having put no more time into FFTA than maybe a few turns into the snowball battle due to crappy emulation, I can't say I've experienced the laws at all. But, still... Sio Gee, swords are against the law today, just about all my melee got ******** over. I see no strategy involved with the law system. So, being forced to rethink your strategies instead of just relying on the same ol, same ol ISN'T strategic, and is somehow less demanding of intelligence?

So, being forced to rethink your strategies instead of just relying on the same ol, same ol ISN'T strategic, and is somehow less demanding of intelligence? Look at it this way. You have a perfect balance between your melee and backline characters. You've levelled all your characters carefully, changing jobs often to maximize their stat growth. You know how to setup each fight, sending who against what, etc. On the day of the next mission you're taking, swords or whatever your melee use are against the law. Great, your melee become essentially useless. You have to change their job to something else, and dumb down your strategy. It becomes "Every man for himself, cast Fire on everything you see." And you'll end up winning anyway just because Tactics Advanced is ridiculously easy.
