Meyrin stood on a lower-level landing, arms clutching a heavily-weighted clipboard. Turning, she saw her sister and the guys arriving at the station. She wasn't well informed of the mission, but she knew it went against Lacus Clyne's will to open with the Oceanic Republic on all matters. However, she agreed that based on ZAFT's most recent findings, they also had an obligation to investigate. Whether to do it in secret or not, she was still unsure. All she knew was that Luna was going into another dangerous task.
"Hello everyone!" She called as the crew approached her. She waved to Shinn and Luna and saluted Yzak and Dearka, who she only knew better from the wedding. "The Commander will be coming shortly with the assignment. I'm just here as the informant to the Council." Meyrin paused and winked at Luna. "I'm hopefully going to be promoted soon."

Yzak's boots clanked against the waxed floor in the narrown corridor as he walked to his destination with Dearka, Luna, and Shinn on his tail. His white coat showed his higher rank amongst the group which he was ordered to lead in a special assignment. An assignment that seemed to have little importance in his opinion. What is so significant about what's hiding behind the walls of the Oceanic Republic? He would often ask himself. He didn't see how the Republic had any connection with recent events especially with Cagalli's near death experience. Yzak felt that he would have better spent his time investigating the EA. Or is that just wishful thinking? He remembered Dearka stating in regards to Yzak still reminiscing the old wars against the EA. Yzak sneered. The thought still ran his ears red.
While in deep thought, Yzak hadn't noticed until the last minute that he was approaching Meyrin. He saluted in response to her respect to salute him. "The Commander better come with sufficient answers to our mission." He stated with little attention to her last comment.

Dearka dragged his feet along the ground as he followed Yzak. He didn't exactly know why his feet were being so stubborn and so heavy; maybe it was because... he missed Miriallia. He had been moping about it for quite a while on how short of a time he could talk to her. Now he was on some assignment and Miriallia was doing who-knows-what. However, he then tried to pick up his pace. He didn't want Yzak to turn around and scold him again for being such a whiner. But he really wished he could have said a better good-bye...
Dearka tried to focus his mind on the assignment. The OR...? That's weird... Why would they hide something...? After looking up, he saw Meyrin saluting towards them. He saluted back, although with a little less enthusiasm than usual but made a little smile nonetheless.

Luna was ecstatic. Not only was it her first mission in the past three months, but she finally would have a chance to work alongside Yzak and Dearka, experienced fighters who were thought highly of by Athrun and Kira. Her heels clicked loudly along the metalic surface, and she slowed her pace so the sound did not attract any attention. She glanced at Shinn, who was still walking behind her at the back of the group. "Oh lighten up!" She muttered brightly to him, "you'll have fun on this mission...whatever we are doing." She thought about it; she wasn't too sure she liked spying on a nation that they were suppose to be organizing treaties with. What if they were discovered? She shuddered at the thought, hoping Shinn didn't notice.
Seeing Meyrin wave from about 10 feet away, she waved back and stopped in front of her as they reached the landing. "That sounds great! Do you know what position they are promoting you to? Or where you're stationed at?" she asked her sister. She was happy for her, but she still was concerned. The crew seemed so serious at the moment. Yzak was looking impatient and Dearka seemed deep in thought over something, though his smile always made his company pleasant. And Shinn? He was being his usual self when he has nothing to keep him busy - always reflecting on something.
She tried to stand at attention patiently, but she felt the same irritation as Yzak over the Commander being behind schedule. "They must have a lot of things to do today." she commented to everyone.

"Honestly, Luna, I don't see what's to be so excited about," Shinn replied, a little weary after hearing Luna's raving about this mission for about the last... day or so. So they got to work with Yzak and Dearka. So what? Shinn knew he was good. Maybe not as good as he wanted to be, but he didn't need to be shown how to do things. He was high-ranked. He was higher than either Yzak or Dearka, with his silver butterfly-shaped pin on the left collar of his red uniform.
Seeing Meyrin, he mumbled a "Hello, congratulations on your promotion" to her chipper greeting that reflected her older sister's current mood. It might have been a while, but he was still brooding. Perhaps a mission might get his mind back on track, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of foreboding.
The Oceanic Republic... he hadn't gotten a good feeling from the moment the new nation had declared its independence. Something was going on in that little group of islands, something big, and he didn't like the feeling.

With their lastest findings about the Oceanic Republic, ZAFT was to conduct an important investigation. With all the strange, yet dangerous occurances that have been happening lately, it was natural for them to investigate. He flipped through the papers that were attached to his clipboard, and seemed to be in deep thought. The ZAFT militant, clad in a commander's uniform advanced towards the group; namely Meyrin, Yzak, Shin, Luna and Dearka. The Commander eyed each one, and nodded lightly, giving them a small salute. Looking at them carefully, he knew they were good. Hopefully, they would be ready for this mission. The ZAFT officials certainly took this matter seriously.
"I shall briefly give you a rundown of your mission." Clearing his throat a bit, he continued on. "You are to go down to Earth and go undercover in the Oceanic Republic." The OR was a new nation that recently had its independence. It was yet a smaller nation, yet there was surely something stirring up in there. "Basically, you are to find out their true motives and plans." Saying everything that was needed, he thought he wouldn't need to explain anything else. They have probably been told about part of their mission already. "I don't think I need to elaborate any further. Unless there are any questions."

Meyrin pulled out a slip of paper and handed it to Yzak, the closest one to her. "There are specifics listed on what to especially look out for. Military actions and investigations and illegal trade are the most important activities."
She sighed, then realizing she was in the presence of a higher officer, she straightened hurriedly. Looking down at her papers, she shuffled them neatly, looking over the notes she were suppose to present to the Council and ZAFT leaders. "It feels like I'm lying to them," she murmered to herself, "by not giving the full details to the Council about these suspicions is wrong...and the latest discoveries..." she shook her head to clear her mind of unsure thoughts.
Glancing at her sister and Shinn, Meyrin smiled, winking as she noticed Shinn's badge glimmer in the dim lighting. She saluted the crew once again and her Official and waited for any further conversation to continue.

Yzak's patience was waning as he waited as calmly as he could for the commander to appear. He was tired of the senseless conversations that were floating about. It seemed to have made the time go even slower than normal. He side-glanced over to Dearka, his long time friend and colleague in combat. As usual he appeared to not be there in their presence, mentally that is. Yzak's eyes took turns in analyzing the pilots that were assigned for the mission as well. Shinn Asuka and Lunamaria Hawke were the top pilots of their squad, so he heard. His lip curled into a small smirk. He wasn't going to allow a couple of young pilots to show him off in a battle, if events were ever to lead up to one.
A slight glimmer on Shinn's coat caught Yzak's eye. That badge. His eyes narrowed. Even though he is a red coat, that badge signified that Shinn had great authority and could refuse to accept his own orders. His eyes narrowed. He didn't like the idea of someone overriding his authority on his own mission.
Echoing footsteps signaled that someone was approaching them. Yzak looked up and noticed that the commander had finally arrived. He saluted in response and awaited to receive further information about the mission. Once given the brief instructions, Yzak stood for a moment with his eyes widened. He held out his hand just as Meyrin handed him a slip of paper.
"Wh-Are you telling me that we are to do spy's work?" He clinched his fist. This hardly seems like a mission that was worthy of someone of his status. "On what inclination do you believe that it is worth our time to investigate a small nation such as that one?" He lowered his head to the paper at hand and scanned its contents. "Mobile suit productions, weapon shipments: departures and destinations, unusual council meetings and topics of choice...what is this? Don't we have special groups that are trained to handle tactics like this on Earth?"

Luna had already heard that they would be doing something similar to this, but she was still surprised all the same. Why would we be investigating their military? Surely they weren't that big of a threat to anyone, especially with a grand nation like Orb next door. And it could hardly pose any danger to the PLANTs.
She jumped as Yzak's temper got the better of him. Though she agreed with him, she only showed it with a slight frown. "Don't tell me that Special Opts is handling different missions now..." she whispered to Shinn, making eye contact with Meyrin in response to her glance. She shrugged her shoulders slightly.

Shinn never had much fondness for the Oceanic Republic. At first, he had simply disliked it because it was so much like what ORB once was, and everyone knew what that had turned into. He was wary of that small country. It always felt like it was hiding, especially behind that leader's eyes. What was her name? Audrina Kavira? Shinn didn't like her. He didn't know why, but he just did.
He noticed Yzak glancing over at him. Well, he must have noticed my badge, Shinn thought smugly. Sure, it wasn't that nice to brag, but it was uniform. It wasn't like he could take it off and throw it in the river - now that would be disobeying protocol. Realizing that this was the first humourous thought he had had for the past few months, he allowed himself a small smile before he returned to his usual face. It wouldn't do him well to look like a lunatic.
Speaking of which, Luna was speaking to him.
"I heard about a secret mission they supposedly carried out last year. There weren't many details, and what I heard was sketchy, but they apparently failed the mission. Perhaps they're reconsidering the Spec Ops placements..." We, on the other hand, are stuck doing the dirty jobs.
He decided to bring up another thing that had been puzzling him.
"All four of us specialize in mobile suit piloting and commanding. Is there any particular reason that we've been chosen for espionage? And if that's the case, what weapons will we be assigned?" There were many other questions Shinn had on his mind, such as acquaintances and spies already in place in the country, but he decided that asking them all might sound a little too arrogant of him. Just a little.

Meyrin glanced at the Commander, then back at Shinn. After a pause where the world seemed to listen in to the awkward silence, she shuffled her papers until she found the notes she was looking for. "Well, it is mentioned here that you are taking your Mobile Suits as transportation down to Earth..." She trailed off, looking for more a hint to answer Shinn's other questions. "There is no mention of what weapons you will be taking with you. Maybe the four of you were chosen for your exceptional skills in combat, Shinn." She caught herself being informal and stopped to look at the Commander.

Shinn wondered how the heck the four of them would manage to stash away four ZAFT mobile suits. It certainly wouldn't be an easy task, but he felt somewhat capable. He almost felt confident. Yes, he could do it. He would show that he was worthy of his rank, and maybe manage to stick it to that Yzak guy.
Suddenly, the sheer weight of the mission came crashing onto his shoulders. He instantly felt belittled and... afraid. Why was he afraid? He'd always been something - angry, happy, focused - but rarely was Shinn ever afraid on a mission. Was there something special about this mission, then?

Yzak remained silent as Shinn and Meyrin exchanged words. Normally he would burst out in anger over an issue he felt deep opposition for. However, his experience and rank in war taught him how to keep his calm and to be more analytic in order to make smart and wise decisions. "This seems to be more than spy work to me." He muttered under his breath.
He looked straight at the commander and raised his hand to his head to salute him. "As First Commander, I hereby accept the terms of our mission, sir." He lowered his hand. Yzak glanced over at Dearka and gave him a slight nod. There was more about the mission that needed to be discussed, but this wasn't the place. He then signaled to the others to let them know that now was the time to go.

Luna saw Yzak's signal and looked back at Shinn. Deciding that they should follow, she saluted the Commander "we will report to you before launch if there is anything, Sir!" she told him.
Now about to turn she saw Meyrin still waiting, probably wanting to see them off. She beckoned her sister over. She should have a say in this too, Luna thought, knowing Yzak wanted to discuss the motives and reasons to their mission.

Shinn snapped a smart salute at the commander. He was determined not to appear incapable of carrying the mission out. He didn't need a white uniform. He had power, and he wasn't afraid to use it. Noticing that Luna was staying with Meyrin, he decided to stick around as well. He got the feeling that Yzak didn't want him around, and he wasn't particularly fond of the silver-haired man either.
