If not that, it could be that yes, she thinks it's another way to objectify and demean women by putting them together for men's pleasure. Could be, could be. No I asked her. She's not homophobic. Yeah, it really doesn't. My friend would tell me over and over again that she wasn't, but once it came to me coming out to her about being bisexual, she almost abandoned me altogether.
Another friend has that whole biased homophobia thing, loving yaoi and hating yuri. Personally, I love 'em both. Love's love right? ^___^

I really don't understand why yaoi is so popular with girls... When I first encountered such material, and noticing there was way more yaoi than yuri stuff... I figured it's probably because it's geared towards guys... And well, no offense, guys are horndogs heh. It wasn't until later that I found out that there's actually a large female fanbase for yaoi. That just confused the hell out of me. The only conclusion I can come up with is that because the of the "pretty" factor of the guys in the yaoi stuff. Actually, thinking about it some more now... It may also be because the female readers can, in some sense, identify with it on an emotional level. Like, the feeling of desire, love, urges, or what have you for a guy. You may think, "Why not just read normal shoujo stuff then?" Well, maybe it just doesn't "do it" for them because the emotions conveyed between male-femle protaganists in normal shoujo just isn't as intense as in yaoi material. So the yaoi is, I guess, an outlet of all these raw desires of the female reader; such feelings in a girl is inappropriate by normal standards, so by having it between two guys... it's okay then. Does what I'm trying to say make any sense? Expanding on that train of thought... Yaoi readers reject yuri, calling it disgusting and whatnot, because again, it's not appropriate by normal standards... so such content between females with the reader being female themselves is just hitting too close to home... it's like um... yuri to female yaoi fans is like cannibalism to human rights activitsts (sorry, that's the best I can come up with heh). Frankly, I've practically zero experience with yaoi material, so most of what I've just said is based on my own assumptions of the going ons in yaoi stuff.

Well said, that's sorta what I meant when I said yaoi/shounenai is non-threatening. ...except for the cannibalism, that came out of nowhere... sweatdrop You'll also see females view/write/draw malexmale rape because it doesn't hit close to home. If it were malexfemale rape they would be appalled (rightly so).

I kno a bunch'a girls like that sweatdrop . It's cuz they're into boys, so the idea of boys together iz hawt, whereas girls together izn't cuz girls aren't their style sweatdrop *shrug*.

Jhay-R Hate people like that! I can respect if you like Yaoi but do not like watching Yuri, and vice-versa, but don't be hating on it! Hell, I'm a fan of both, big supporter of the lesbian couplings of Azumanga Daioh and Roy/Marth from SSB:M. I think she just thinks that Yuri is weird because she is a girl. Now, that's ironic because just about everyone here is a girl, but there are many straight girls that see Yuri as disgusting because they themselves are women. Same thing with some, what am I saying, A LOT of guys not liking yaoi, if they even know what it is, because they are straight guys. See, it all falls into this one sentence. For girls and guys respecitvely,"If I like Yuri/Yaoi, then I am a lesbian/homo." That's all it falls into... If they are not to confident about their sexuality, or scared what other people may think of them, then they go into the whole denial/hate thing, you know? THAT, or the girl just thinks that guys or girls who watch it are perverts, so damn ironic in my view, truly it is....

It depends on the kind of Yuri, it's either lightcore- Meaning just girls holding there hands, doing things to each other that is not disgusting Then there is is Hardcore- Meaning naughty stuff, being roughf with each other, violent kissing[image removed - overly suggestive content. -ka]
