Vengeful password .Deramin = *Wrar* domokun Good work. ^^;; actually, I think I overdid it. XD I do that sometimes where I'm already thinking about it and can see every flaw in a person's recolection of the book. I've also built up a natural reaction to slauter people I presive as only having seen the movie (The LotR Subforum is a scary place that will devour your mind), and it backfires when the person only remembers the movie better. So I appoligize for overdoing it. ^^

Deramin A few pages into Book 6, Chapter 1 Sam is tempted by the ring as it hangs from his neck. "In that hour of trial it was the love of his master that helped most to hold him firm; but also deep down in him lived still unconquered his plain hobbit-sense: he knew in the core of his heart that he was not large enough to bear such a burden, even if such visions were not a mere cheat to betray him. The one small garden of a free gardener was all his need and due, not a garden swollen to a relm; his own hand to use, not the hands of others to command." I think that Sam would have been just as good as Frodo was at carrying the Ring. Maybe even better because I think he was more accutely aware of his plain sence. If Tolkien gives one opinion in the entire book it's that the intelectual eliet are over rated. Except that Sam would be lacking one thing Frodo had: someone behind him pushing him all the way up that mountain. Frodo was not an exceptionally strong person. He was ready to give up by Lorien! But there were people behind him that wouldn't let him give up. And Sam was there the longest. Would I have sent Sam off with the Ring to Mordor? No. Because he wouldn't have someone as layal to him as he was to Frodo behind him. And that was Frodo's real strength. haha I was just about to say the same thing. Oh well. 3nodding

The thought of Sam as the Ringbearer would have simply destroyed the innocent, loveable hobbit of Samwise--can you imagine if he had allowed the ring to take hold in that one moment he wore the ring!!! it would have been unimaginably terrible because he would have become that most feared of beings as opposed to the most strong and loved

Well, Sam wouldn't necessarily have become the "most feared", because the aim of the Ring was to return to Its master, Sauron. I expect he would merely have been drawn to the seat of darkness, challenged Sauron in his crazed, power-hungry folly, and been killed in the process.
But, of course, that's not Sam. XD

Estelyn We all know the story--Frodo, a hobbit, embarked on the momentous quest to destroy the Ring of Power. Fending off all obstacles, he suceeded, losing only one finger for his trouble. But he was not the only one to bear the One Ring. His companion Sam took it for safekeeping when he thought Frodo had been killed by Shelob. Though an enormous weight fell upon him, and he felt a strange reluctance to relinquish the Ring, he did not seem to suffer from its more debilitating mind-altering effects.
So what do you think? Would Sam have been a better Ringbearer, or was his apparent resistance to the Ring due only to the fact that its burden had not fully consumed him yet? I don't know if Sam would have been a better Ringbearer but I wouldn't want him to carry the Ring cuz I wouldn't want him to get like Frodo was. I think even Sam would have been corupted if he had it long enough.
