She nodded as she picked her way through the underbrush. "I know but... but I'm leaking. I can feel the real part of me being drunk away by some throat thirsty for power."

Pyralis shivered despite the heat of the sun and frowned, unhappy she'd shown weakness. She'd done quite enough of that, thank you very much. "I'm not sure it's just the body that will die anymore. It's like my core flame is going out."

((Got it, thanks!))

'If Mother wills your demise, then so be it,' Shin thought to himself in a fit of frustration. 'She tests us to see if we deserve the magic she gifts us with. You're lucky to even be considered for her greater gifts.' Of course, such sentiments would be kept to himself.

He did feel some pity for Pyralis, though. The threat of ceasing to exist was a powerful thing to face, and many (including himself) do not face it with grace.

Plus, it would be better on the whole if Pyralis was able to contain and wield her newfound magic. Another count for the windigo population, and even rarer - a semi-ancient. She would be a powerful ally.

He resent the image of Pyralis' flaming aura, hoping it would reassure her somewhat.

However, in his preoccupation with Pyralis, he failed to register a wisp of presence behind them.

Aubrey stood a safe distance from the two, watching them with golden eyes as they ventured forth. Having dealt with Shin in the past, he was familiar with his particular ability to sense other magic. He had a rough idea of Shin's range, and stayed carefully beyond it.

His main objective was to wait for the moment the two came before Wagosh, whom Makwa suspected of scheming with Maigan behind her back. THe voice in the back of his head wanted to attack them now while they were vulnerable and suck the information from them. But he pushed this little voice aside, paying attention to his duty as a spy for Makwa.

So for now, he waited.

Pyralis nodded, curling her hands into fists until her claws drew blood. Stop whining and walk! she snarled to herself. She wanted to know more specifics, but the sun made her head clear enough she kept her mouth shut. Shin had never appreciated her in the best of his moods, and she needed him enough now that getting him angry at her would just be foolish.

There was a chance, after all, that he was leading her to her doom, wasn't there? Always a chance of everything. She pulled her fingers straight again, feeling the slide of metalic skin as it sewed itself up.

Relieved at Pyralis' silence and her sudden determination, Shin fell into an easy silence as they wandered their way across the forests of Maine. Occasionally they'd work their way around human settlements, which were mostly park establishments and the odd park ranger patrol. Fortunately, they had chosen a route that was relatively deserted for the distance they crossed.

In the late afternoon Shin spotted a stream, and made his way towards it so Pyralis could take a quick rest.

Pyralis was weary, but it was the good sort of tired that had been earned instead of the parasitic type that had stalked her for sometime. Still lagging, she felt much more herself just for having decided on a course and following it.

She sunk down beside the stream, gulping water for a moment to quench the thirst that had been inherited along with her flesh.

"I wish Aubrey were here." She said to herself as she finger-combed a few tangles from her hair. "I haven't seen him in ages."

Aubrey paused behind a tree, leaning on it to rest up aswell. He was getting pretty thirsty but he was no where near tired. He dared to peek around the tree that consealed him, for he was pretty confident that he was beyond either windigo's sight, unless they were purposely looking for him.

He watched Pyralis comb out her hair as puzzlement nagged at his mind. Aubrey would have to admit he missed the good ol' days when they hung out. But now was not the time to think upon those memories. They would cloud his concentration, and that was the last thing he needed.

Ducking back behind the tree he set his emotions off, hoping the two would move on soon. Shin was probably taking her to Wagosh to use her influence for Maigan. As far as he was concerned, Pyralis was just as guilty as Shin at this point.

Mention of Aubrey plunged Shin's memory back to the time before he had gotten caught up in the re-emergence of the windigo. He felt a tad nostalgic thinking about how simple things seemed to be back then. He had been...admittedly a lot nicer to Pyralis then, without his priorities. He let himself feel a moment of regret, then returned to his rigid stoicism.

Just before Shin's emotions washed over her, Pyralis had a sense of another's regret a bit farther a way. She cocked her head to try and focus in on it, but the aura's much closer and stronger feelings flooded her senses before she could even be sure she'd sensed something. Was she losing control of that too?

To be on the safe side, she stood and turned back towards the way they'd been heading before. "Thank you for the rest, but we should move on now. I think some humans might be getting near."

Shin conceded to Pyralis's senses and floated off in a steady western direction. He knew they were getting near, it was just a matter of finding where exactly Wagosh had nested herself this century. Most windigo kept up a steady movement so they wouldn't be sitting ducks in case word got out amongst humans of their location. It wouldnt do to let them get the first strike.

Pyralis followed, matching her pace to his as best she could and taking the time to feel herself out for energy levels and specific points of weakness. If there was a human intent on her destruction out there, she doubted she'd survive the attack, aura immortality or no.

They wandered on, working their way slowly but surely towards the Great Lakes. The day passed without any further human disruptions, largely due to the fact that they traveled deeper into the forests and away from civilization.

Shin felt the first inkling of power pass over him later that night. He looked around, seeing the same nondescript trees that had littered the mountain throughout the day - nothing odd or out of the ordinary. His senses narrowed, trying to pinpoint just where the sensation had come from.

A glint of light caught Shin's attention. He slowed, turning to his left. Another glint shone from beyond the nearest copse of trees.

Pyralis' feet dragged, cold to her bones and leaking energy with every step. She noticed the light because the absence of any was verging on painful. Turning, she followed Shin becuase there was no other choice.

Shin felt a light pressure against his tendrils as he moved towards the trees. It grew stronger right between them, but after he pushed his way through the light touch disappeared. He focused on his surroundings.

Not much had changed, view-wise. It was the same monotonous, somewhat gloomy forest as before There were the same thick trunks and snow-covered branches, the same muted animal activity. He sharpened his concentration - something had to be different if they were indeed in one of Wagosh's illusions, as the pressure had alluded to.

After a moment, as if waiting as long as possible only to taunt him, a small rock glinted against the dappled white of powdery snow. He sent Pyralis the image of an exclamation point, followed by a questioning sensation. Did she see it as well??

((As you may have noticed in the thread, we've recently hired a new rp manager. I was waiting in hopes of being able to have her take over Wagosh, but I don't want to push her yet so it'll still be with me. I may have her take over another ancient down the line though, just a heads up :3))

Pyralis turned her head sluggishly, as if pushing through a thick film. She looked at the rock Shin had indicated, but her grayed vision saw nothing special in it. She didn't know what he wanted, but he had pointed it out. In her numbed state, that was enough.

"This?" she slurred, bending down slowly and grasping the stone. "You want this?"

((Good to know.))
