Wait, sibling rivalry? Where was there any rivalry between the two?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:58 am

Not so much a deliberate rivalry, but they were both pretty much competing for their father's favor, probably almost all of the time. They didn't hate each other, and in fact loved each other, but it was still a sort of rivalry, I think.

And that's pretty much how sibling rivalry is... in most cases.

True. xd

But in some cases the entire thing ends in hate because one is loved more than another. Faramir handled his rejection by Denethor better than a lot of people would.

Boromir annoyed me so much. I hate him, well I hate Sean Bean thats probably why. I think thats his name.

Faramir has to be the better guy! I mean he 'nearly' died. 3nodding

Im not making to much sense, I know that and so I leave you with this.

Nothing-ness.

Faramir was i don't know. He seemed like the type to have an emotional connection to someone. Boromir aways seemed like the strong slient type and that isn't my type of guy. So I like Faramir

Okay. I chose Boromir, and really I'd write why. But..there's no way to do it for me without like ranting.

So here's the easiest way for me to do this. Now the site is a little baised..but they did a through job of it.
Boromir for Ringbearer

Now this isn't to say that I don't like Faramir. I do. But having to choose between the two, Boromir comes out on top.

I'd have to agree: Faramir is my personal favorite. He's more thoughtful, more intelligent, much cuter heart , more open-minded, more pure in a sense (he, unlike Boromir, has no desire for the Ring), and more sensitive to his family and the men who fight with him. He isn't loud and boastful, he doesn't barge into situations, and he certainly doesn't try to steal rings from sweet little hobbits. sweatdrop

No, he almost did.
Faramir's desire to be loved by his father overtook him and he almost took the ring.

hmmm; hard decision but I vote Faramir because he seemed to have a stronger self, probably a result of being un-favoured. Yes, Boromir was pretty cool too. But Faramir had a romantic side ^.- (As you all know, Eowyn and himself met up at the Houses of Healing) So, yup, I chose Faramir! xD

Please! Rant!! I am getting annoyed with all these people who love Faramir!

Once again: Faramir almost DID steal the ring. Hmph.

Really? I was able to view it before I was a member. It's popup based, if that means anything. I know my popup blocker was blocking it.

*prepares rant*

I'm the older of two children and see the opposite side of the fence. I loved how Boromir was 'flawed' and therefore more human-it made the story more grounded and believable. Then he died and I was sad until I read about Faramir. While a better person, I find it hard to sympethize fer the lil' brother. *kicks own little brother maliciously*

I love Boromir, even though he tried to steal the ring from Frodo, because it wasn't really his fault the ring possessed him....but then again, he was greedy in the first place.

However, Faramir also tried to use the ring to lead Gondor to victory...

hm.......... Who to choose, who to choose?

"Do you wish then," said Faramir, "that our places had been exchanged?"

"Yes, I wish that indeed," said Denethor. "For Boromir was loyal to me and no wizard's pupil. He would have remembered his father's need, and would not have squandered what fortune gave. He would have brought me a mighty gift."

That seen was so sad and i have to say i totally prefere Faramir. Something about him i can really relate to...

It's hard to decide..... Faramir, on one hand, is noble and scholarly, which I admire, and you feel for him due to his relationship with Denethor. He had to live in Boromir's shadow and had to try and be what their father wanted him to be.

Saying that, Boromir was a good man really. Even Galadriel was tempted by the Ring; that's how powerful it was; you can't blame him really. YES, he may have been proud and slightly arrogant, but he's only human, just like all of us (unless you're lucky enough to be an Elf! wink ) and he has his faults. It makes him easier to relate to. Like Faramir, he had to be what Denethor wanted him to be, had to live up to expectation. No wonder the poor guy cracked...

WOAH! sweatdrop That was a hell of a rant... redface But at least I've been able to say my thoughts... I think poor Boromir gets a lot of bad press; he wasn't a bad guy; he wasn't...............
