I don't believe in stereotyping because every person is different. I'd rather get to know someone before I label them as anything. And I don't like it when people assume either. You know what they say about that. "When you assume you make an a** out of u and me.

Mystic_Blue_Fox I don't believe in stereotyping because every person is different. I'd rather get to know someone before I label them as anything. Usually, that's how I operate, but I have been known to stereotype.

Okay, I am an aboriginal, or first nations or whatever you want to call me. I am from a small reserve called Peguis. I do have to deal with prejudice and stereo type alot. Such as "oh your lazy, your a drunk, or you like to huff" "when is the next pow wow?" "where's your tipi? wigwam? etc" Also we are not poor, yes the reserves are a little isolated but they are not impossible to reach or get off of. I really hate racism or prejudice. My parents taught me to see the person for who they are and not what nationality they are... or the colour of their skin... Also because of the fact of which the only colour I wear is black I am an auto goth... I just like black clothing, don't know why, I just think it looks good. Also I don't like religion, I don't believe in god or the devil. I don't have beliefs really... Also I hate the one wear, just because I am a male that I am the horniest one in the room thing. Like oh my god he's gonna rape me or some stuff like that. I can't trust you cause your a boy... that one especially gets to me. Oh yeah. I am an Ojibwe, but I can't speak my own language. I am learning however mrgreen

That's wonderful that you're learning your Ojibwe language. There are so many languages here in California, and some of them have been kept alive but many have died. There's a nation a little way down the coast from me that is working to revive their language from written records and recordings, because they had nobody living who spoke it anymore, but they did have those records to work from.
I'm an Arab American. All my life have been aware of the hatred many people in the US have for Arabs. Forty years ago when I was a little kid, there were no wars going on between the U.S. and Arab people, but there was still so much stereotyping. Movie Arabs were either stupid or sneaky, or both! And of course, with events since then, the stereotyping has only gotten worse until, in recent years, some of us have feared we could be put in camps as the Japanese Americans were in WWII.
I have a cousin who won't use our family name, because she's afraid. It's certainly troubling to know that I could be turned down for a loan or a job or even be arrested and tortured because of my name, but it is a part of me and I'm proud of my name and its history.
I don't speak Arabic but I am trying, slowly, to learn a little. I was interested in learning when I was a kid, but the grownups liked having a secret language they could use to talk over our heads so they never taught me any but a very few words!
