My conversion to punk was rather instantanious by comparison to most of you guys. I tended to avoid music of any sort until about 8th grade. Up to that point I really didn't care about the world around me and one day I was just at a friend's house, he put on some Bad Religion and it got me thinking... Well, as much thinking as one can accomplish while listening to the harmonious dischord that is punk.

when i was in sixth grade, i looked up punk in kazaa, cause there were these kids at school that listened to it, and i didnt know what it was.

against all authority showed up, and im still grateful it did, because i could have ended up being a dumb punk if another band had been there. i kinda got the hang of what punk really was back then

the punks from that time arent punks anymore, just dumb nerds hahah.

Mine's not really that interesting in elementary and middle school i was picked on constantly. I've always been very opiniated; hell i called my best friend a sheep for 3 years cause she pissed me off by doing what ever i want i was also cursed with a girl who in sisted she was my friend whom i led into a brick wall cuz she wanted to pretend she was blind. But hey as all stories go if you lose 30 lbs and wear makeup people leave you alone hmmm...suprising any way after that i decided i hated everything was basicaly an emo kid ..that lasted a month. One day at fye i saw a cd, social distortion being the ******** i was decided it was cool just cause of the name any way i liked the music so i looked for more like it essentially i went from mommys little monster to the queers and fell in love i then started accumulating but never really sticking with one favorite until dead kennedys to me still to this day their style inspires me i mean everytime i have to sit through a football game for band i start singin' "jock o rama", when a friend of mine decides they wanna star listening to punk i have them listen to "california uber alles","forest fire"," stealing peoples mail" , or "mtv get of the air", i learned guitar techniques from "soup is good food", and "police truck",(i once wrote a 6 page paper on eric boucher) anyway some how it just grew i talked to punks in forums checked their stuff out some stuff i didnt like but most of it i loved

Two years ago my sister left for college and she left me her backpack, which has a Clash patch on it. All of my friends saw it and joked around telling everyone I was ’punk.’ Which back then I guess you could say I was somewhat to. Anyhow I stole a few of her Clash cds that she left behind, listened to them and liked them. Then a few months later I found out about The Ramones from The Pet Cemetery movie. Then after that I heard about Fogging Molly and the Sex Pistols. The next year I had some band tees and the same backpack with the Clash Patch on it. All of my friends laughed and said I was ‘some riot’, which started my nickname. Not until a few months ago did I really dig deep into the songs and researched their meanings so I could understand them a little more.
I’m kind of ashamed I said I was punk when I didn’t even realize what the songs were about. I was a poser no doubt, but I smarted up about it. I’m glad too.

howd i get into punk?

well sophomore year, i was a metalhead, one of three in my entire class. we would always get into arguments with the people we thought were punks - kids who listen to good charlotte and emo bands mostly. one day i was talking to my uncle and he LOVES the ramones so he had me listen to them. i was hooked, and bought a bunch of early punk - stooges, clash, sex pistols, richard hell, even managed to find a tape by johnny thunders and the heartbreakers. i loved it, and some of my favorite thrash metal groups were influenced by hardcore punk so i also checked out bands like dead kennedys, minor threat, black flag, etc and loved them. it was about then that i learned the difference between real punk and those good charlotte fans

nowadays i play bass in a band called patriot act i started with one of the other metalheads, who i've converted to punk. we also have our own metal group, but patriot act is for our punk stuff.
