Zsky2 1: Meat does have tons of protein. To be exact, too much. The average human child's body needs about 45 grams of protein (a tad more or less depending on gender) through the stage of puberty. If you eat peanut butter or any other nut, bean, or grain products, you're already getting more then enough protein. And yes there is something wrong with eating small amounts, unless the cow was wild and lived years ago before any traces of pollution were to be found. Seriouslly, look up "heart disease.". The problem with many diets today, is that many diets consist of too much meat. However, meat will give you all 8 essential amino acids. The problem with vegetarian and vegan diets, is that in order to obtain all 8 essential amino acids [required for healthy bodily functions 3nodding ], one would have to consume many different protein sources everyday [a mixture of different veggies, beans, and nuts]. Or, eat soy/tofu products everyday, since I believe soy/tofu has all 8 essential amino acids. There are many vegetarians and vegans that don't fully look into this, and end up getting ill due to lack of essential amino acids and vitamins. Being vegetarian or vegan requires alot of work. I find it easier and cheaper to consume meat; preferably chicken or fish. And occasionally, a nice cut of prime rib --medium rare please. 3nodding I'm not trying to bash vegetarian/vegan diets though, don't get me wrong. Eating meat has its faults too. Eat whatever you like, but make sure you get all your vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Oh ya, I'm an omnivore. 3nodding

I eat meat because I hate baby cows.
Well, actually, I eat meat because I like the taste and the texture. Yeah there are arguments about how meat has too much protein and too much fat and all that junk, but plants have too much cellulose which we can't even digest at all, so it all works out. As for moral quandries, between my lack of morals and my view that animals are no better than plants and that the ability to feel pain doesn't really mean much, I don't really have a moral standpoint on this issue. So, in conclusion, bacon is awesome. And I mean real bacon; the crunchy stuff. And jerky; beef jerky (or as they call it in the Philippines, "berky" (not really)) is yummy too.

Indeed. Forcing something on someone who doesn't want it is, in most cases, imature (unless you're forcing them to quit smoking or something)

I try to avoid red meat, but if the beast is hungry the beast will eat. I'll eat a live cow if it means satisfying my belly twisted blaugh .
Vegan food scares me though...a day of eating organic lentils and palenta feels a lot less healthy than having some undigested protien sitting around...especially when it comes time to go to the bathroom... burning_eyes

Well, I eat meat because there is no "V.E.G." in MEAT....
only an "E.A.T." mwuahaha.
Seriously though, I believe I would live a very miserable life if I didn't consume meat. Being active and participating in sports, you need meat, period. there are essential amino acids that can only be taken from meat sources, that you miss out on by not eating meat. And if you DO supplement your body with these amino acids like you should, then you're not really a Vegetarian/veggan haha... because those amino acids come directly from meat sources. Anyway, if you've seen anyone whom DOESN'T eat meat, they look VERY unhealthy. Pale skin, brittle bones, thin hair, brittle nails... I mean, its just not good. We have canine teeth for a reason.

I need more sleep.

i'm an omnivore. i was vegan for years though. it's not a healthier lifestyle. yes, you stay more in shape, but you don't get all the vitamins you need, especially the b-vitamins. sure you could take suppliments (I took these B12 vitamins that said each tablet was 16,000 times what you need in a day. there is such thing as too much) but your body doesn't process them as well.
As for meat having too much protein, that's bullshit. It all depends on what you eat and how much.
I also want to make sure you kids aren't getting vegan and strict vegetarian mixed up. Strict vegetarians don't eat any animal products. Vegans don't eat anything that comes from an animal, nor do they use any products with animal based ingredients or that have been tested on animals. The definitions have become skewed recently.
As for ethics, there's nothing wrong with eating animals. we are animals and were designed to be omnivores. I do understand vegetarianism based on a dislike for the meat industry but not because you feel bad for the animals. if you care about the animals your eating, i'd suggest eating organic. as predators, we're not doing anything wrong by eating meat, but organic farms ensure that their animals haven't been pumped full of hormones and have lived good lives.
Yeah. SO there.

I'm not like "everyone should be an omnivore" or "everyone should be a vegetarian".
It's a choice- its like saying whether everyone should have only boy kids or girl kids. I feel that it's solely a personal preference. I know that some people do it because of animal cruelty and want to stop it, but badgering others to become a veggie too would not work. All you have to do is be an informant.
Personally, I think that the argument whether eating meat is natural or not is rediculous: it is natural, the human species eaten it in the stone age, and we still do - there is no evolution that we can't. Meat doesn't make you sick. Meat is a supplement- sure people can be perfectly healthy as a vegetarian but no one has the same exact vast range of food we have. Not everybody is exactly the same- thats why kids in Laos are having nice chunk of grilled mutt rather than a tofu dog. And then there's the argument that red meat gives cancer- last time I heard, sugar makes people fat, cellphones make people have cancer; it doesn't mean its suddenly horrible and people should stop eating it.
I've been a vegetarian for almost two years before but it was hard because I couldn't readily eat everything vegetarian because I don't have the budget to go out of my way to eat something different from my family. Vegetarianism is almost a luxury almost. I was a vegetarian because I am against cruelty when it comes to raising the animal (I think that the way the animals are slaughtered are generally fine because I've seen my grandpa kill a chicken, its almost exactly the same as mass production. Slit the throat, stick in a boiling vat of hot water regardless if it was dead or alive and then pluck. If I prepared my own chicken I'd do that too. I honestly think its more cruel to induce sleep and slaughter them when they're vunerable. I think when they give a fighting chance it means that I've properly fought to have delicious chicken! hahahah
If I were to become a vegetarian again I'd think I'd still eat seafood because I just .... can't see how fish suffer in the way they are affected personally rather than "ow that hurts- move left!" And I'm rather apathetic about fish bigger than a koi. And fish is just... so tasty. And appearently, lobsters and crabs don't even have a brain but just a nervous system.
anyways, thats my spew lulz
