Miss Mainwarning It is possible that the wand was a horcrux but look at all the trouble Dumbledore went through to get the others. Its a bit too easy to get to, think about it if this was your horcux would you just lave it on a cushion in a shop window? I don't know...someone ;like Ollvander who says Voldemort did great thnigs makes me very fishy. If he thinks Voldemort's powers are great then I don't think he'd mind showing off such a symbolic object in his shop window, especially if it was a real treasure. We do not know if he however, removed it later on in the books, so there's no saying if it is or not.It might be inthe fourth, but I don't have it on me at the mo, so I wouldn't know. sweatdrop

Oblydia Pravus Alright, here we go......We all know that I go nuts on stuff when it comes to theories and things I believe strongly in...I mean, just LOOK at my post in the Snape-Dumbles or Voldie Thread...
In regards to Ollivander...As you have kindly pointed out...House objects have so far included a Sword, a CHALICE, and a Pendant/Locket. Now, for those of you who are familiar with real magic (aka, paganism and wand work, like me), you will know about the Ancient Tarot. Their are Major Arcana in the Tarot deck (The Fool, The Magician, Death, The Wheel of Fortune, etc.) and minor Arcana. The minro Arcana consist of Swords, Chalices, Pentacles, and Wands.
Swords and Chalices in referrence to the book speak for themselves, but when we come to the Pendant, that's when things get a little trickier. I have speculated over two possible reasons for it not being completely congruent to the other Arcana. One, 'Pentacle' sounds a bit like 'Pendant', (Heh, far fetched, I know), and Two, in the original Tarot Deck, the Raider Wuite deck, the pentacle is oft portrayed as a necklace, worn by dictators, or Queens.
It would make sense for J.K Rowling to be heading in the direction of teh Four Minor Arcana, as not only is it REAL magick, but evidence points towards it being so.
Which finally concludes that the last House Horcrux, of Lady Ravencalw, would be The Wand.
But whether that 'wand on a purple cushion' is Ravenclaw's or not, is an entirely different story.
Think about it rationally. Would Ollivander, a rather intelligent, and crafty individual, really leave such a meaningful, rare, and cherished item, in the front window of his shop, in plain sight? True, he may not have known that Voldemort had used it as a Horcrux, and he might have figured that passerby would not question the history of the wand, thinking it to be nothing more than an example of his work. Which it very well could be.
So, the question remains: Was the wand truly a Horcrux, did it even belong to Ravenclaw, or is the Ravenclaw Horcrux even a wand to begin with? Or was that wand, simply just a wand he had on display so people could see an example of his work? But, if that's the case, then why did he go missing?
My next point, about his disappearance, coincides with Fortescue, as well. If the wand was a Horcrux, well, then we know why he dissappeared. But if it wasn't, then why would he go missing?
Was he to be commisioned to craft a new wand for Voldemort, so that the Dark Lord would no longer fear the Priori Incantatem? Or was he kept away because he is a Wandmaker, and Voldemort wanted to try and put the Wizarding World in more grief, and anxiousness, not allowing new wizards and witches, just come of age, to get a wand, unles they went to an entirely different country? Or did Ollivander have information he wanted on another person's wand? Harry's, perhaps? Dumbledore's? Or maybe records from his ancestors about Rowena Ravenclaw's?
Or, in revelance with Fortescue, did he 'go missing' at the same time because Voldemort killed (OR) captured him, as a first blow to the Economy of the Wizarding World.
Both were predominent providers in Diagon Alley; Each business was immensely successful. Ollivander's provided everyone with wands, a tool required to perform magic of any kind, and Fortescue's Ice-Cream Parlour has hundreds of customer's a day. Perhaps Voldemort knew of Harry's frequent visits to the parlour, and he planned on questioning old Fortescue about behavioral habits, or information on his personal life. People he was with. People he seemed to like, or interact with friendly-like. Perhaps he wanted this information in order to have something against Potter, so that he could hurt people that mattered most to him, to break him.
Or maybe, he is planning to slowly rid the Wizarding World of it's most prized assests, last to be Gringott's Bank. First, Ollivander and Fortescue's, then, maybe Florish and Blotts, or Madam Malkin?
Who knows... 3nodding I agree with most of your theories, the one about the Four Minor Arcana is very clever. J.K. Rowling is known to use some real supernatural stuff, well so I've heard. I think you're right about Ollivander, but i have no idea why he might have disappeared. Perhaps the wand is a horcrux, who knows? Maybe Ollivander found it and kept it safe in his shop.....and a clever fellow like him would put it on display on purpose so no one would suspect it.

ninja In defence of Mr Ollivander -
Page 64 (HP + PS)
"I'm sorry to say I so the wand that did it," He said softly. "Thriteen and a half inches. Yew. Powerful want, very powerful, and in the wrong hands ... Well, if I'd known what that wand was going out into the world to do..."
See, he's SORRY he sold it. And sounds like he wouldn't have sold it if he'd known what it would do. So really evil thar, eh maties!?
Page 65 -
"... I think we must expect great things from you, Mr Potter ... After all, He Who Must Not Be Named did great things - terrible, yes, but great..."
See. There, 'terrible things'. Oh and, yes, I know he called them great... Great doesn't always mean good. A great big lump =/= A good big lump! Great usually means big and collosal and... stuff. And if you think about what the dark lord did, they were indead collosal and all that. They weren't good collosal things, but they were still collosal. ninja

I agree entirely with Poor_huni. I mean, honestly, he said that Voldemort did great things, but these 'great things' were terrible. Hitler did great things. He changed the face of the world, and beliefs. But he was still evil, and what he did was terrible. But that doesn't stop it from being great. Joeseph Stalin was a great man. He did great things. Huge, phenomenal, but evil things. 'Great' does not just mean 'wonderful, or good', it means 'powerful, huge, amazing (amazing in the sense that it was mindblowing, phenomenal, which is not only a good thing, but can be bad, as well). When he says that Voldemort did 'great things' he means that he is very powerful, and changed the face of the Wizarding World.

If Ollivander found the horcrux and was with the dark lord he would have hidden it in some very, very safe place and if he found a horcrux and was against the dark lord he would have destroyed it! It is possible that Ollivander fled in a attempt to keep the horcrux from Voldemort until he could figure out away to destroy it but I doubt it which leaves me thinking either Ollivander didn%u2019t know the wand was a horcrux or the wand is not a horcrux right now I%u2019m not sure which is more likely.

*Agrees with most people who disagreed* Yes, I know. It's just so strnage thatthey both disappeared in the same region, as for the wand on the purple cuhsion, who knows. I guess we'll have to wait until the seventh book! I stillthink leaving it in plain sight would be better because a clever lad like Ollivander would know that the person seeking him would look for some secret place hidden in his own household where they think it's held.
*nods her head at poor_huni* quite udnerstandable of course. He could be puttin gon an act of being terrified and sorry to harry though, so you never know. he is one sly fellow. Even harry walked away not liking him too much.
