okay. i have a question. what would Pink Floyd qualify as? And the Rolling Stones?

the way i look at it is in punk there has to be room for the people who follow the movement to have some views of their own. personally, i hate the stereotype, but id say that anyone who believes in equality and has strong political views based on that very thing that also listens to the music is a punk. personally, my views are based on equality, respect, freedom, and things like that. check my profile if you want to find out more about my views kuz i really dont feel like typing em all. i say i dont care if a band sounds punk or not, if they have a good message their cool in my book. and punk isnt about sex... not even close. actually i havent had sex before, and i think its stupid to just go around ******** like rabbits if you dont actually even care for the person. but dude seriously, who i am has a complete lack of effort. i dont try to be anything. i dont think anyone can call themself a punk if it takes any effort. just be yourself, and if you like the look dress in it, if you dont please dont dress in it because thats not you. i do hope you look into the message, it really has some deep s**t. just im telling if you have to try at all to be considered punk then give up, and someone doesnt have to look like a punk to fit into the stereotype, thats one of the reasons im against punk as a stereotype in the first place. punk is the message, the look is optional, and only optional if its the look that you truly like. o, and also, punk isnt about drugs. i ******** hate that s**t

For me, classifying music into it's specific subgenres and sub-subgenres has become something of a pastime. I still love to listen to it, but while I'm listening, I'm LISTENING, kind of picking apart the music. Like a computer geek might take apart a computer to see how it runs and what specific parts make it run like it does. I'll play a song over and over just so I can hear EVERYTHING... the unique techniques a band uses (which is why I LURVE Underminded, they've got this wicked awesome guitar thing that they do... whee )... the similarities between bands... the defining aspects of genres...
However, I do tend to get really ticked off when music is misclassified. And I've seen some wicked strange misclassifications in my day; I've seen a screamo band (the music was sorta almost acoustic) and it was listed as grindcore. I've seen some hardcore listed as "folk"... that one made me laugh.

Like who?

im just a music person, im in chorus, i play the guitar, i love to sing, i love music. period. while i listen to punk, ill listen to some more relaxing stuff such as peter murphy-cuts you up, the goo goo dolls-iris, oasis-wonderwall, rise against-swing life away, and all of gareth mcnichol-briggs is acoustic so its all relaxing, i like to relax listening to music, but also if im in the mood, ill put on some hard fast punk. what music i listen to is based on emotion, and due to my current emotion, ive sang iris by the goo goo dolls about 30 times today... take it from me, i classify music, but i still love different kinds of music on a broader spectrum as well and i respect music as an art. and actually, peter murphy is an experimental artist, he sounds kind of like jazzy poppish techno, that uses nothing but a violin, a bass guitar, and drums. heres his myspace, im not a huge fan of all of his stuff, but i like the song cuts you up http://www.myspace.com/petermurphytribute so go here and listen to "cuts you up"

edit: i just watched the music video for cuts you up, and i found out its not using a violin... its using guitar, but the guitar is being played with a bow that you would use to play the violin... pretty ******** clever
