Yet a third hyena approached, and this one greeted the strange blue with familiarity; the clan was gathering. He didn't even have to turn around before his hackles were fully up, muscles in his legs tensed and ready - not to run this time, but to fight. His small foreclaws were tilted into the dirt for forward traction, lips slippig back to bare his fangs.
He wasn't the type to attack from aggression, but if there was a clan coming after this lot as they continued to prove... Even if it made about half-sense to a rogue what he was doing, Diallo intended to do it if they came any closer to Lilah and him. Two adults and another adolescent were two hyenas too many for his taste, and with his odd attachment to the older female hyena, he felt himself between a rock and a hard place. He knew if he ran at a full sprint he could probably outdistance Lilah with her mangled forelimb, and thought that she may very well intend for that to happen. But he wasn't going to let it happen. He was content with her, and he wasn't going to give it up without a fight.

Lilah, having been a nomad all her life, was becoming as nervous as Diallo. The clan hyenas didn't seem aggressive -- the bird actually seemed friendly -- but they were wary, and Lilah knew that they would attack if they felt threatened. It would be good to have backup on this mission, but Lilah didn't want the clan hyenas to turn on her and Diallo.
"Yar," she said agreeably, nodding towards the eagle. If he and the others wanted to come along, who was she to stop them? The quiet grey male that accompanied the eagle was more to her liking than the two slightly abrasive females.
With a shrug of her shoulders, Lilah turned and began to trot slowly in the direction of the enemies' trail. The danger of attack grew the longer she and Diallo remained in clan territory.

With another friendly snuffle at Teska, and an amused glance at the male adolescent, Kanoni cheerfully set off after the older nomad and the scent. She carefully stayed on the females uncrippled side, and although she didn't quite pull even, she was easily within eye sight. No sense worrying them more than necessary. Besides, the female and found the scent first and left first, she could lead if she wanted, Kanoni didn't particularly care. It was all just more politics and rank as far as she was concerned and it wasn't something she cared about.
It was funny, but the two were actually much safer with Kanoni than they would have been otherwise going after some unidentified predator. They weren't clan, but as long as she was running with them they may as well have been. Kanoni was a practical hyena, when you had others to run with you looked out for them, because in the long run it was usually better for you as well. Besides, if you couldn't have loyalty in this twisted world, what could you have? She would fight this threat if it attacked them, she would fight and if it was necessary she would die. That was the way of things.

A white-and-black clad muzzle lifted into the air, its unusually pink nostrils whiffing away at the heavy scent being carried by the wind. Hyenas, informed the scent. And quite a few of them - two males - one adult, one adolescent - and... onetwothree adult females. The owner of the muzzle abruptly lowered it and sunk further into the tall savannah grasses. What a gathering! Could it be he had wandered into a clan's territory? He had thought he had heard something about a Queen... Unconsciously, the lone male hyena pup took a step backwards. All these adult hyenas were starting to make him nervous, and he didn't want to come face-to-face with an angry Queen.

Already concentrating almost completely on the input her nose was giving her, a slight breeze brought another scent to Kanoni. Another hyena. A young one it smelled like though. She couldn't pinpoint the source exactly. She slowed and glanced back at Teska to confirm her find.
There certainly seemed to be quite a few non-clan about, but then, Chumu was new, perhaps knowledge of their claim had not spread to all yet. In any case, still Kanoni remained unruffled. She had two thoughts on this new scent. The first was that this was no place, particularly with the strange predators around, for a lone cub, and the second was that if it was not in fact, a lone cub, what disposition would it's minder have?

So many, so many hyenas! Lilah shook her head, snorting to clear her nose of their overlapping scents. She hadn't been around this many hyenas since ... well, she had never been around this many hyenas before. Already uncomfortable at the size of the gathering, Lilah continued to trot, ignoring the scent of the new cub. They were all new to her, new and confusing. And she did not want to waste any more time chatting. The hunt was on.

Diallo took off at Lilah's side, his ears still pinned back against his skull and his tail rising over his back. He kept pace right at her injured leg, his nose twitching with nervousness for all the hyenas that were around them. Clan territory, and this odd, more pressing scent. There were too many implications for the adolescent to follow, so he kept at Lilah's side with full intention to do something stupid if someone got too close.
He pushed himself a little harder, coming out a bit ikn front of Lilah and casting a quick glance to her; he could run faster if she wanted to. He wanted as much distance between them and the slowing other hyenas as possible.
