"Yuck. Yeah, I know. I just can't understand is all, dang it! Wait, what now? You're even considering me liking that trash named Alex? Didn't you see him eyeing Sulasa earlier? I'd never go for a guy with such bad taste," Fera spit, following her leader with the slightest tinge of fire on her hands. Marino smiled at Lee-Roy, partly because he saw humour in his bragging, and partly because he was glad that they were.... 'going after chicks'. He may appear to be gay, but boy, the girls around here did not allow for anyone to be attracted to men. Not that he ever had been. Marino looked up at Jake when he spoke and blushed in answer to his hard-hitting question. Yeah, he liked Natalie. But it wasn't important enough to say out loud, so he shrugged, trying to look casual.
Shadow lost her train of thought and began flying in circles a little above the ground, trying to figure out what she was going to do.
Mistress Fire and Sulasa were just finishing their conversation when Gail and her group came up. "Alright, thanks! I'm gonna go grab a bite to eat now," Sulasa said when Mistress Fire excused her. She went next to Alex to grab some bread and jam and smiled at him. "Hi, I'm Sulasa. Ummm... what's your name? Sorry, I only know Gail's name from your group."

Gail smiled. "Oh, hi Yenene! We did eat, but we just wanted something to drink too."
"What happened to the rest of your team?" Natalie asked. Kahla stood on the other side of Gail.
Alex, a bit startled to suddenly find himself so close to Sulasa, stuttered, "I-I'm Alex!" Quickly composing himself, he continued, "Nice to meet you, Sulasa. You're part of... Keilana's group, right?"
"Come on, Fera, he can't be that bad. Probably just like Lee-Roy here, he's gotta check out all the girls." Jake landed his group easily. "Okay, they seem to have stopped for now. I'm gonna go join Gail and talk with her a bit. You guys can do what you'd like for now, but after Gail and I are done, we'll meet back up and wreak a little havoc. Sound okay with you three?"

The second his feet touched the ground, Lee-Roy sidled up to Kahla. "Hey, baby," he cooed ultra-suavely. "You know I missed ya. How 'bout you an' me go for a little 'walk in the woods'?"
Meanwhile, back in the woods, Elle was pushing onward with fearless determination. With her elated expression of grit and safari hat, all she needed was a machete to complete the image. She pushed overhanging branches aside to clear a path; staying on the marked trail was boring. Spying a cluster of brightly-colored fungi clinging to a nearby log, she stopped to examine it. "Hey, Keilana, come and see this! It's the Basidiomycota coral fungus!"
"I'm coming, Elle. Hang on," Keilana called from a ways back. Trampsing through the forest was not one of her favorite things to do, but she felt she owed it to Elle to accompany her on her "adventures through the underbrush". Besides, she didn't want her teammate to get lost out here. She approached the mushrooms, panting slightly. "Okay..." she said, staring at them blankly. She really didn't see anything spectacular about a few red toadstools growing on a log.
"Oh." Tristan nodded knowingly. He was slightly surprised, though, to learn that Takeo actually had a crush on Yenene. The fire elementalist was always so unexpressive, he wondered if he was even capable of normal human emotion.
When Gail's group arrived, he felt his pulse begin to quicken. As his eyes fell on her, the muscles in his throat tensed up. God, please give me the strength to talk to her.

(Sorry for the corny last post, it sounded better while I was writing it. sweatdrop )
Arnold looked at Tristan out of the corner of his eye as he stared at Gail. As they neared her group, he shoved Tristan ahead. Watching intently, he rapidly made a feeble attempt to blend in, which was almost impossible conisdering his large bulk. Takeo grimaced as he watched Lee-Roy try to schmooze Kahla. He looked around for Yenene, trying to ignore Jake and his group. When he saw her, he gulped and nervously began to walk over to her.
Yenene spotted Takeo as he walked up to her. "Hello Takeo," she said cheerfully.
"Hello to you, Miss Yenene," Takeo returned. "Well, uh," Takeo tried to think of a topic of conversation.
"Actually I need to go join up with Keilana and Elle. I said I'd meet them in the woods, you can come if you'd like," she proposed, turning off towards the woods.
The fire elementalist nodded and followed her, trying to seem as at ease as possible.

"Yeah, whatever you say, Jake," Fera muttered and shook her head as she turned towards the lake. She spotted a piece of driftwood and concentrated on lighting it on fire. It was pretty far away, and soaked because it was in the lake, but she was determined. She was imagining it was Sulasa swimming. *FOOM!* The wood exploded in flames and was burn out in seconds. "Whoops. Didn't mean it to be that big...."
"Yeah, I'm in Keilana's group," she said as she piled fruit and bread onto her plate. "I'm the fire elementist. You?"
Marino looked up and watched Shadow circle in the sky.

"Umm... I..." Kahla most definitely did not want to go anywhere with Lee-Roy, but she didn't want to say that to him.
"Go away Lee-Roy, Kahla doesn't like you," Natalie cut in, and pulled Kahla away from him.
"Uh, sorry!" Kahla called back over her shoulder, as Natalie took her as far as possible, going back close to the woods.
Gail waved to Yenene as she left, then turned to find Jake right behind her. "Oh, hey Jake," she said in an uncaring way, and just brushed past him to the food table.
Jake turned and followed her, smirking. "How's it going, Gail? Sorry about that last time when we kinda got the item you were supposed to, we just happened to be in the neighborhood, and thought, might as well. And your team had been pretty beat up by that one guy that was keeping it."
"Oh, it's no problem, thanks for the help." Gail wrinkled her nose. She knew the truth, he had just wanted to show off for her. And her team may not have been doing as well as they could, but they weren't that beat up... Luckily, Jake couldn't see her face when she was thinking this.
"So, I was thinking," Jake went on, "how about sometime we go somewhere, just us two? I know a good nightclub in New York that's got great music. And it's for people 15 to 18, so it'll be legal."
"Sorry Jake, I don't know if I'll have time for it. Gotta train with my group and all, you know how it is." Gail turned away, not wanting him to see the nervousness in her eyes.
"Yeah, I know, but you can't train forever. Why don't you tell me where your team's HQ is, and I can drop by sometime?" Jake put a hand on her shoulder and turned her a little to face him.
"Again, sorry, but I can't just tell people the location of our headquarters." Gail smiled sadly, hoping it was convincing enough for him to leave her alone.
Jake sighed. "Fine, but one'a these days, I'm gonna take you out to have a little more fun with your life."
As he moved away, Gail's body relaxed. She sighed in relief, brushed a lock of stray hair behind her shoulder, and turned back to the table to choose a cookie from one of the many types they had there. It was not an easy decision.
"Cool, I'm the fire elementalist too!" Alex grinned. As always, the amazing Kahla had been right. Okay, maybe not always, but most of the time. "Soo..." Alex thought desperately for something that could start a conversation. "You ever met anyone else in my group? They're all girls, but they're great. Er, not to say that girls aren't great. We're just all really close, but um, not that close! We... um..." Oh, great. He was definitely smooth. "What I mean to say is, you wanna meet any of 'em?" Alex blushed slightly. Yeah, he was a great conversation starter. Absolutely super. He was grateful Natalie wasn't there to overhear him, he would never hear the end of it.

Tristan stumbled forward as Arnold's massive bulk heaved into him. "Whoa!" he exclaimed, lurching toward the buffet table that Gail was currently scrutinizing. He just managed to maintain his balance and keep his cool, allowing no time for his nerves to get the better of him. "Peanut butter," he said, coming up behind her. "It's the best."
"Wha...?" Lee-Roy looked completely deflated as Khala was swept away. *Dammit. Am I trippin or somethin? How could she resist a move like that?" He retreated to formulate a new plan, determined to carry out this one successfully. Afterall, he was 17. A fine brother like himself had to lose it sooner or later. He hoped it was sooner.
While Elle had her nose buried in the cluster of mushrooms, Keilana scanned her surrounding with her hands on her hips. "Okay, it's official. I have no idea where we are." She sighed. "I'm just a terrible leader, aren't I?" she joked. "I come out here to make sure you don't wind up lost, and I can't even remember which way we came from."
Elle stood up and smiled with amusement. "Lost? Who care's if we're lost? Would you like to hear just how many wilderness survival courses I've taken?" she proclaimed proudly. "I know everything from how to splint a broken leg with nothing but fishig line and palm fronds, to how to save yourself from dehydration by drinking your own urine."
Keilana grimaced. "Too much information, Elle!"

"Oh, awsome!" Sulasa smiled. "Oh, yeah, there's Natalie and Kahla, right? And then I know Gail a little bit, but the others not so much. She held back a chuckle as he babbled and just smiled. "Yeah.... want to sit by the lake? I love sitting by water when I eat.
Shadow saw a burst of fire on the lake and located Fera glaring at the spot. "Aaah...." she flew over until she was just five feet above her. "Hey, little sunburst! What are you up too?" she mocked in serious tones.
Marino watched Shadow and laughed silently.
Fera looked up at Shadow, startled. "What's it to you, wind bag? Get off my back and bug someone else. Yeah, that's right," she said in response to Shadow's appalled face, " Shoo fly! Shoo, shoo!"

"Not bad," mused Arnold, watching Tristan carefully. Hearing talkl of cookies made him want something sweet, so he snatched a brownie from a nearby table and ate it slowly. When he finished, he sat down with a thud and began playing around with his element. First he coated his hands in rock, then started making little sculptures.
Yenene stopped, using the wind to carry voices to her from deep in the forest to her. She gagged a bit when she caught tyhe part about drinking your own urine. She turned to Takeo. "Well, I know where they are, so you better be able to keep up," she said playfully. Then she started off at a sprint, gaianing speed every passing second. Soon her feet were barely touching the ground, and the wind carried her forth.
Takeo also ran after her, breathing heavily. *She's fast,* he thought.

Gail turned, thinking it was Jake, but it wasn't. "Oh, hey! Umm... you're on Takeo's group, right?" She felt kinda bad that she had forgotten his name, so she tried to cover it up by introducing herself and hoping he wouldn't notice. "I'm Gail, but you probably already knew that. Everyone knows Jake and his group, so eveyone knows me... and how I'm plagued by him." She made a face and giggled. "And actually..." Leaning close, she reached around him to grab a cookie. "I'm partial to M&M." Smiling, she bit into the colorful dessert.
"Thanks, Natalie," Kahla said once they were a ways from Lee-Roy.
"No problem, Kahla. But you really need to get more assertive." Natalie smiled. "But don't worry, I can give you lessons when we get back home."
Kahla rolled her eyes and sighed, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Sorry Nat, but I remember that time you tried to teach our cat to swim. It wasn't very happy and you weren't very patient."
"Well- then- you can teach me patience!" Natalie replied exasperatedly, sticking her tongue out at Kahla.
Kahla laughed. "Okay, I'll try."
"Sure, sounds great!" Alex smiled. As they walked, he said, "Y'know, there aren't many fire elementals who actually like water. They tolerate it, because they have friends and teammates that are water elementals, but they don't really enjoy it. Natalie taught me to swim, actually, which made me like it more. People say that fire and water are opposite elements, but even though they cancel each other out depending on how much you have of each, they're not really that different."

Elle only smiled. "Anyway, this forest isn't very large, I'm sure we'll find our way out eventually. In the mean time, I'm going to have some fun." Walking over to a nearby pine tree, Elle placed an open palm on it's thick trunk, channeling her power into its center. Slowly, as if by the tree's own free will, its lowest branch bent down to the gorund. Elle grabbed ahold of it and swung herself onto it, so that she was now straddling it. She then willed the tree to grow.
This of course happened very slowly, as a plant of this size naturally took a lot of energy to manipulate. But Elle continued to ascend past the tops of the other trees on her chariot of pine until she was overlooking the entire forest. She inhaled the rich, forest smell and felt the wind on her face.
Far below on the forest floor, Keilana watched in awe as Elle disappeared up through the branches. Elle always amazed her. From a nearby direction, she heard a rustling noise begin to grow louder, as if approaching. *Oh God, please don't be a bear or something like that.* All of a sudden, she wished she was up in the tree with Elle.
Tristan was nearly bowled over with surprise at his own coolness. "Oh, I see," he replied, attempting to adequately respond to all that Gail had just said. As he watched her take a bite of M&M cookie, the lameness of what he had uttered hit him like a frying pan. *Oh, I see? What kind of line is that?*
Getting nervous, he searched desperately for something else to say. "So...You don't like Jake, then?" Now he was really kicking himself in the head. *That's great, Tris, just bring up the other guy.*
Moping, Lee-Roy decided to visit the forest to mull over his new strategies. Little did he know that he wouldn't be alone.

Arnold stared at the forest, daydreaming. All of a sudden, the tree Elle was sitting on popped out of the tops of the trees. Startled, Arnold rolled backwards and clonked his head on a stone. The blow knocked him out of his thoughtful state. He looked around, concerned about something. *Where'd Takeo go?*, he wondered, standing up and looking around. He began walking along aimlessly, searching for the fire elementalist.
Who was, at the moment, sprinting through the forest, hurdling over bushes and waving away leaves that blocked his way. *If only she would wait up,* he thought desperately. All of a sudden, he broke out of the dense scrub and came upon a rushing stream. It wasn't very wide, so Takeo decided to jump it. Backing up he ran and took a great leap, landing just on the other side o the muddy bank. "I made it ," he cried in triumph. Just then, the bank crumbled from the impact and he fell backwards into the rushing water.
Yenene, who had actually gone an entirely different way and Takeo had gotten lost, flew stright through the brush and almost ran into Keilana. Stopping quickly, she fell with a thud to the forest floor. "Hello," she said brightly. "Where's Elle?"

(What's with all the ****'s? You guys aren't even cursing when you use them! confused ) "I know!" Sulasa exclaimed as they walked. "I mean, they both flow in this mysterious, fluid kind of way. They both kind of have lots of states.... I imagine a a camp fire kind of fire like water vapor's opposite, plasma as liquid, and fire rock's kind of like ice. They both have a great attraction for me... though of course, I like fire more. When I look at the sky it appears like fire and water in the best possible mixture... clouds drifting past this huge ball of fire," Sulasa went on, greatly excited, but then realized that now she was babbling. "Oh, I'm sorry! I'm going on and on.... I just got so excited when you said they were alike, because no body else gets it, that I've met so far."
Marino went past Fera on his way to take a swim, and noticed smoke rising from her hair, showing she was angry. He concentrated the water vapor around her until she had water droplets all over her. She looked his way with eyes on fire and her dove into the water for protection, laughing as hard as he could under water.
"STUPID MARINO! Ugh... I'll never get away from these idiots!" Fera fumed, though not literally anymore... seeing as she was covered in water.
Shadow had flown away when Marino got revenge on Fera for her, laughing over the forest. But she heard the slightest "splash" sound and looked down. She took a nose dive, because she recognized one of the fire elementists, and he had fallen into the water. She got down to where he was and pulled him out, finally regonizing him as Takeo. "Are you alright, Takeo? What happened?" Shadow asked, concerned but still in control of her panic levels.

(Huh? I think we're using them for thoughts...)
Alex smiled. "Yeah, quite a few fire and water elementalists don't want to listen even when they know it's the truth. Lucky for me Natalie does, and now a fellow fire, too!" He grinned. "How about the water in your group? She understand?"
Gail started to laugh and almost choked on her cookie. "Oh... *cough* sorry about that... *ahem* but I would have to answer with a 'definitely not' there." She giggled. "He keeps asking me out and I keep refusing as politely as I can, but he never seems to get the message. Annoying, mean bully really isn't my type, y'know?" Gail realized that she still hadn't caught this boy's name nor remembered it. She would have to think of a new way to find it out.
"Umm... so do you have any 'admirers'?" she asked, trying to remember who he was in the meantime. She knew it wouldn't be easy now to inconspicuously get his name from him... Maybe she could ask Kahla and Natalie? Natalie was social and knew people that never even heard of her, and Kahla had a super-good memory. Maybe if she had an excuse to go to them with this boy, the two would greet him by name... But hopefully an easier way would somehow present itself. If not, Gail would have her back-up plan of going to her teammates.

Keilana started in surprise at the sudden appearance of Yenene. "Oh, hey," she said. She pointed a finger up towards the sky and rolled her eyes humorously. "Guess."
With only slight guilt, Tristan found himself elated that Gail had denied liking Jake. Annoying, mean bully was a huge thumbs-up for him. When Gail asked if he had any admirers, he couldn't help but laugh at the thought. "No, I have to admit that I don't. Usually I'm the one doing all the admiring." He had said this with a smile on his face, but now, as the truth of his words began to sink in, the boy behind the smile was now dumbfounded in pure shock and horror.
Back in the forest, Lee-Roy had come across the stream that lead to the lake. The long walk had let him reflect on himself. The long walk alone. *You're such a loser, Lee-Roy,* he thought angrily. *You're alone. You can't even get yourself a girlfriend. You can't even get yourself a friend!* He felt a surge of rage and puched a large boulder near the stream. With a splitting crack, it crumbled where his fist had made contact with explosive force, leaving behind an imprint of his fingers and knuckles. Lee-Roy collapsed to the ground, defeated. White hot pain shot through his hand. He held it against his chest and pounded the side of the rock with his other fist in frustration until it throbbed. He let out a cry of rage shut his eyes against the sting of tears. He told himself they were from the pain, but he he knew it was a lie.
