Yeah, the first book kinda sets up the story for Children of Dune...
And its the better of the two books. 3nodding

I would recomend Ersal K. LeGuin's Earthsea series. The way she writes is excelent. And the main character is great, and all the other characters are great too. There are three main book making up the triliogy but there are also 3 others; Tehnu (i proabably spelled that horably wrong), Tales from Earthsea, and The Other Wind. I just loved the whole thing. In the third book the middle seemed a little boaring but after your thru it and to the end you relize it had more improtance than it first seemed and it's just really great.

Sci-Fi did a movie but they kinda took the triliogy and mashed it all togeather into one movie and it's not as good.

Miyazaki's son and Studio Ghibli's next project is an anime Earthsea. Knowing them I can't wait for it!

I have also been told that Forgotten Realms is really good but I haven't gotten a chance to read any of it yet.

if you like manga, I could recomend more, but it's not as fantasy as DL or Earthsea or FR.

Forgotten Realms in all honesty is really rather hit or miss on the quality. The Ed Greenwood and R.A. Salvatore stuff is good, but the rest is alright to use as TP

The Vampire Saint-Germain novels by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.
Quite a few of 'em are very hard to find, but they are worth it if you can find them to read them. They're more of historical fiction with a vampire main character. And for books that are in the "horror" section of bookstores... they are't very scary. But they are danged good reads.

Also Mercedes Lackey's "Elvenbane" books. I've only read the first one but it was a danged good read.

Also Joanne Bertin's Dragonlord Series. So far its only a two book series, but its a rather interesting twist on dragons and weredragons.

I think a lot of the Forgotten Realms stuff my brother read was Drizzet but I think he read a bunch of other stuff too. I have a friend who loves the R.A. Salvator. My aunt took me to a book fair. About 20$ for a bag filled to the limit with books. I got a bunch of Dragonlance, Shannara, Myst, and the book of Baulders Gate and a few other non-related books. I also got the Ice-Windale Triligoy from the library's sale so I guess I'll find out!

Dune! ::Squee:: I just reread that book and it was even better >.>

A really good series is the obsidian chronicles by Lawrence Watt-Evans. Its almost nonstop action from the first chapter. It got so hard for me to put it down ^^. Its got bad a** dragons... and bad a** other things ^_^

Shouldn't this be in the Off Topic forum? Because the title even says "Non-DL Books"

Another good book is "DUNE" by Frank Herbert. yeah...there's a movie based off of it...but the book is so much better!

There's also the English Band named Dune that no one seems to have heard of... xd I like their music. :XP:

I'd recommend The Morgained Saga by C. J. Cherryh and L.E. Modesitt, Jr.'s Corean Chronicles.

Good stuff... All are fantasy/sci-fi related and have their own unique twists to them.

Okay, I'm going to be laughed at for this one, but I'm currently adicted to, and would recomend to any fantasy readers, the book The Naming by Alison Croggon.

Its got a rather interesting take on Bards as a magelike class.

Though its a "kids" book (recomended for readers 12 and up) but as I once told the trade book manager at my last job, "Just because it says its for kids doesn't mean an adult can't enjoy it too."

Just finished re-reading this book called "The Prestige". Amazingly good book!
It was written by Christopher Priest.
I read it a while ago, but after finding out that there is a movie of it coming out in October I had to re-read it to see if it was as good as I remembered it...it was better!
450 pages...one sitting! really good....I hope the movie lives up to the book!

Hmmmmm...other books...it's been way too long since I've read anything other than Dragonlance...

Artemis Fowl - pwnage books!
Harry Potter - They're okay. The movies were crap though. And the fact that they have wands pisses me off...other than that though, pretty good books.
Anything by Stephen King!
And Manga. Manga pwnz too!
