He kept the stupid ones in line, when he wasn't spending his day proving to challengers that, really, they had the rank that they had for a reason, and no, they were not going to become Alpha just by dumb luck. It was amazing how many Damphousse were that stupid. He hoped this Altair thing didn't try that. Although if Altair hadn't won his fight by much, if he had any sense, he would go train, and stick to his own level, not above. Doubtful, though. All the young were incredibly stupid. It was only with age that they seemed to get brains, and, if they were lucky, the faintest notion how to fight properly, by using those brains. Oh, fights were determined quite largly by strength, but he'd still support a smart, and slightly less strong Damphousse over one with more strength and less brainpower.
He hunted for the food, also. He was the one who managed to keep the Damphousse in line long enough to kill enough to feed the entire population, and knowing the idiots that came with him, it was a difficult and thankless job. But he did it without complaint, because it was his work. He actually did things. The Queen might possibly do things other than play mind games. But what the Princess had to do that was more work than he did, he couldn't imagine.
He wasn't sure if she would tell him, to show off how hard her life of born-into luxury was compared to his earned place of third-best, or if she wouldn't, just to make him wonder, and thus play more mind games with him.
Really, if it was female, it enjoyed toying with you, no matter what words it might say. Females liked to play with your mind, even if they wouldn't admit it to themselves, and pretend that they were above such things.
But it was still her choice, and no matter what he said, she would predict that that was what he was going to say.
It was more out of just boredom than anything else. Really, talking wasn't doing anything for him. He wasn't using his brain trying to outmanouver her, since no matter what he did, she would outrank him some day. And so he would much rather be practicing his fighting by hunting. But maybe she had some interesting ideas as to what he would say, some ideas that might possibly catch his attention. Because if not, he was going to round up some of the better and more cooperative fighters, and see how many herds of deer they could find.

Adurna looked at Xerxes. She smirked in her dark corner. She said was she would do. And she was doing it. Would that catch him by surprise. We'll see.
She watched Xerxes. Was he going to keep this up. She was trying not to go crazy about driving him crazy but this, was getting annoying or not. She might flip next if he ran her temper any lower. She was short as it was. But she didn't want him to get mad, too much. But she would flip. Totally. And that might scare him.

He seemed to place some importance on that fact, but he wasn't thinking about what or why, and so he doubted that the Princess would know what or why, either.
Although he wished he could. It would make dealing with the Queen and her mind-games so much easier. And maybe the Princess, too, if she did end up going the way of the Queen. He hoped that she wouldn't, but one really shouldn't put too much on hopes.

Adurna sighed. She realized she started to flip.
She stood up and stretched her wings trying to calm down she didn't need to fight with teh Alpha now did she? Not really. she decided and looedk back at him. She sighedn and took another bite of teh rabbit.

wouldn't you lie?> Why tell the truth when a lie will get you what you want so much more easily? Did she want his trust, did she want him to think that she really wasn't in his mind? It seemed like both females used that power whenever possible, so he doubted that she was staying out of his mind, no matter what she said.
While the words might seem critical, his tone said that he was merely interested in whether this was true or not. It was a nice notion, to think that they weren't always in his mind. But he couldn't let himself believe it. Nice things were rarely true around here; it was the harsh things that were most often the reality.
He wasn't sure why he didn't go off and start a hunt. He still wasn't spending enough time thinking about this conversation. If she wanted to fight him, he would have to let her beat him up, since she was the Princess, and a youth, so he would have an unfair advantage, and he couldn't harm her, even if she attacked first. So why bother watching her? It wasn't that he didn't think she wasn't going to attack so much as there wasn't a thing he could do if she did attack.

Adurna smiled. Yes, if I thought it truely wise or worth it, i can get into the Queen's mind. But normally I don't. Because I think she might be able to sense me if I do. Bad for me though.> She smiled. She actually was having a conversation with the Alpha. Not trying to phsyic him out.
She laid down on her bed, which she claimed her own. She asked randomly. trying to move away from talking about her.

He would have to find out if the Queen could sense when someone was in her mind. And if she could (which was very likely), he would have to figure out how she knew, and see if he could learn as well. Hopefully it wasn't one of those female-only things, like the mind-reading deal, which was getting to be a real pain.
At least she didn't seem to be asking any sorts of questions that could get him in trouble. Which didn't mean that he was going to relax around her. With the females, you never knew what they were going to throw at you next.

Adurna thought about that for a second. She laughed. She finished off her rabbit and chewed on teh bone. She watched the Alpha wondering if he was going to continue killing th Queen's bed.

Was he really the only one the Queen enjoyed tormenting? She seemed to derive such a sick pleasure from the activity, he couldn't help but doubt it. Unless it was the way he reacted that amused her so much. That was not a pleasant thought.
He was calmer, now that he wasn't dealing with stupid kits who didn't know their place and how to act in society. Although if the Princess decided that playing mind games with him was fun, the Queen's bed wasn't going to last much longer.
Assuming that the Princess wasn't playing mind games with him already. Just because she wasn't asking leading questions the way the Queen did didn't mean that she wasn't up to something.
It would be a show of weakness to let anything get to you. He wasn't the only one who had to worry about underlings ganging up on him if she showed weakness. No one but the Omega was safe if they showed the least bit of weakness. No one but the Queen and the Princess, because no one could take their positions, no matter what.

Adurna nodded. She knew that would be something one would die before admitting weakness or defeat. She sighed and continued her chewing. The Alpha was pretty ok to talk to. At least he didn't continueously try to impress her.

It was a small mental comfort that the Princess agreed with him. Even if no one was going to admit to the Queen playing mindgames with them, it somehow didn't seem quite as bad now that he had a good reason to suspect he wasn't just "special". Which was incredibly stupid, he knew. So what if he was the only one the Queen liked to torment? Why should he suddenly feel so relievd that he wasn't the only one? He couldn't be going soft and weak like this!
His reaction made him suddenly wish that he was the only one, so he wouldn't be so weak in seeking comfort in the crowd. He wasn't weak, he knew he wasn't. He wouldn't be the Prime Alpha if he was weak.
Meaning the mind games. A rhetorical question, but, being the Queen, she could get anything she wanted to entertain her, so why did she mess around with other's minds? A power trip thing? Or some other reason?

Adurna looekd at Xerxes. She seemed like she forgot that in all this. She didn't care. Sometimes having a normal conversation was good. Good to keep her sane and from turning too tormentave like the Queen. Though she bet she would still.

The queen went to a corner with her nest there. The bed felt better now that the alpha had ripped it up some. Soon she had fallen asleep with the alpha's and the princess talking gone out of her head.

He wondered what would have happened if the Queen had come back in the middle of their conversation. He quickly tried to get rid of that thought, so she wouldn't suspect anything, and then wondered if she was even paying attention to what he was thinking. She was alseep, now. Or appeared to be, anyway. But he wasn't going to let her put him off his guard. As far as he was concerened, she could probably hear every word spoken.
If she wanted to come and continue the conversation, he knew she could, and probably would, but it was best to be polite, and offer the invitaiton, anyway.
