My family is sort of vegetarian...they eat fish, and some of them eat pastrami every once in a while, but I don't eat any meat at all anymore.

My family understands except my grandma she talks to me when ever she can about health I explane to the fullest and couter, but she is old I don't blame her. My familyis supportive it's normal for me to be vegan now except they forget everyday, wellit is cause they treat me no different. For example my dad will say hey son you wants some potatoes salad? I say does it have eggs in to?? lol other than that they are cool about it.

Animeomega I'm suprised that more of you don't have vegetarian families. Well, people who have been veg*n since birth (like me!) usually do, but it's a lifestyle choice, so I can understand why many people can't convince their families. Especially the ones who live for meat.... I'd hate that... I never eat out, so it's not a problem for me, and the fact that my parents never (used to) eat meat made my life easier...

Grrr...
I was talking to my Dad on the phone last night and he said I should eat fish.
"Dad, fish is still meat and besides, I never liked fish anyway."
"You need the protein. Try some salmon. Trust me you'll love it"
Of course, he thinks he knows EVERYTHING and he can never be wrong stressed .
I tried to explain to him that I take iron supplements and I make sure I get enough protein by eating soy products.
Of course my attempt failed :[[

there's this vegetarian restaurant i want to go to. i odnt know where it is but my uncle told me about it. my uncle is the only one who cares about me being vegetarian. everyone else ignores that fact and if i try to remind them they make fun of me. the problem is he doesn know exactly where it is and no one wants to take me. i know its probably too expensive for me.

Skyelark That sounds EXACTLY like my dad, they must be clones. ninja xd domokun Exactly like my dad as well. Clone triplets. ^_^
My father is not only meat-and-potatoes, prefering meat-and-potatoes-from-fast-food-place. When I was just becoming a vegan, he went through the McDonalds (and Burger King... and Tim Hortons...) asking about their vegetarian meals. Not too quietly either. D:< *shrugs* But we came to an agreement that he would stop such nonsense, and I... I...
well, I don't go to fast food places anymore. Unless they're vegetarian, of course.Animeomega Y'know, everybody thinks that this whole thing is some stupid phase or something. Why can't they see that this slaughtering thing is a real problem and respect the hold it has on my life, without acting as if it's a real problem. Sometimes I feel that people get mad at me just for being vegetarian... My father wouldn't talk to me for two weeks. Every night, he'd put meat on my plate, and he'd ignore me as I took it off. :/ It was a tragic case of denial. Thankfully, he's long since stopped and, even though he still jokes around (his pet name for me is "Vegetable"), I think he has accepted it.

Hah. My mother hates the fact that I'm vegan, but she buys me food, because she doesn't want me to die of starvation, she knows I won't give in. All my family does is critisize me for it, there is no point in arguing with them, because they "KNOW" what they are talking about, even my friends (not all) but some make fun of me for being vegan.
I don't know, I know it's worth it so I don't give two shits about it. If these people love me so much, they should understand... or at least no push me so hard to stop.

That's really sad, and it happens to me a lot as well... My friends always ask me where I want to go out to eat, because they are sure that I am going to have so many problems finding food where they want to go.

I came from filipino meat eating hell culture.... so all my family eats meat.
couple years ago.. my grandmother died. I wasn't allowed to go to her funeral because I was a "disgrace to the family" because I do not eat meat. My grandmother didn't care about me being vegan... but the rest of my family thinks I make them look bad because they think vegans are weird/hippie/druggie/unhealthy people.
of course, I do not associate with my mother or her family anymore - well.. my father is pretty good (and annoying)

my family isn't quite vegitarian, but they are consious eaters and they're very supportive of my eating habits, as long as I'm not starving myself. I don't think I could be a vegan if my family wasn't supportive.
