The traveler had a different look on his face, primal... old... Manstis wasn’t allowed to show himself, those around him were the first to feel it, which caused everyone who’d been keeping him distracted to immediately get out of the way and scatter one of them yelling at Nate “call boss her pet’s in a frenzy” Nate sighed and took cover as he grabbed a phone to call her room.

While the Pact that bound him was strong there was times where the holder had to be close to keep situations like this from happening, which was why they tended to keep a gaggle of people around him at all times occupied and distracted from any possible issues on the floor... today just wasn’t one of those days.

The room started heating up to a point where everyone was feeling it, and knew something was wrong, when furniture started to combust, it caused the staff to take cover, having had this issue on a few occasions, they all knew they needed to stay out of his way else they would die alongside whoever had caused the frenzy. The traveler started walking slowly towards those who had garnered his age, anyone else still around would be dealt with accordingly, they were all flies to him, insects to be crushed under heel. As the heat in the room started to become unbearably difficult to breathe in the Flame Revenant Manstis took form, his clawed hand flexing, his cat of nine flames dragging on the floor, leaving scorched marks as they passed. The three remaining to foolish to understand what they were involved in turned around in time for Manstis to flick his cat of nine flames and cut straight through one of them, turning him into ash and cinders, the other two frantic at the horror that stood behind before them didn’t have a moment to think about fleeing as Manstis unleased a condensed fire bolt hitting the second one in the chest and as with all inferior beings they turned to ash and cinders. As the other one turned to run for the door Manstis moved swiftly, faster than his hulking form should allow and slammed his clawed hand into his stomach his claws protruding from him a simple word was spoken “DIIIIIEEEE!” as his clawed hand ignited into a flame so hot the body combusted in a flash and simply turned to ash.

His rage knew no bounds and as his helmed head turned towards Elizabetta, his gaze showed a malice that has made even the strongest question their life choices. The Temperature in the room continued to heat up to the point that metallic items were melting and starting fires, the room was starting to ignite in flames, up until one clear force of will slammed him, the rooms heat instantly returned to normal the fire was somehow snuffed out and all that stood there was the Traveler confused by everything around him “what a mess this place has become, how could such a thing happen, i mean come on this place has standards” he resumed his rambling as he aimlessly wondered around for a moment before he was immediately ushered by a few staff members to a table not scorched and kept him there.

Tybalt walked with a stressed ease knowing that once again the pet had caused a mess, catching up with Vexx as they entered the main room and just sighed “i’ll get this place cleaned up, though what caused the inferno to come out?” his eyes scanned the room and found three ash piles along with multiple bodies and immediately understood what happened. “Blood, damn it we have the rules for a reason, especially when he’s around here” his frustration was showing in his eyes as he took a deep breath and composed himself before he bowed slightly to Vexx and took his leave to coordinate the clean-up, couldn’t have this place looking like this when customers were due to arrive in the late afternoon to evening.

Nate was quick with the phone. As well as signalling the bouncers to clear out anyone in the way. The staff knew to get out of the way.

But, it looked like they might have to close for the night to do some repairs.

Still, it could have been worse...

But, when Tybalt walked in and made his commentary, even Nate had to give a tired nod.

Rule 3: No blood on the Club Floor.

Still, he did his part and sent over drinks to the Traveler and his new table guests. Anything to keep him happy...

Delilah, meanwhile, kept rubbing against Elizabetta. She was making her claim. No one had ever stood up for her so certainly, and bloodily. While she didn't like blood most of the time (it got in her fur), she didn't mind it when it was shed in her defense.

When Elizabetta stood up straight, she jumped up to lay across her shoulders. While purring. And certainly not moving. Her tail moved to twitch contentedly along her arm. She was where she wanted to be.

Vexx waved a hand to Tybalt, knowing that he would take care of the problem. Instead, she approached Elizabetta, a smile curling her blue lips. Yes, blue. Yes, it was natural. Just as her hair was black with gold strands through it that grew naturally. Her eyes were teal and went very nicely with her lips.

She was wearing a dark blue silk robe because she'd left in a hurry. She would have to let Mantis play later to make up for bringing him to heel. But, he took it fairly well. In her opinion, anyway. Still, she thought that he might appreciate the pesky fire demons she'd been keeping on reserve for him. They were supposedly fireproof and he might like the challenge.

She moved up and offered a finger to Delilah as she rubbed her face against Elizabetta's cheek, giving a sultry chuckle as the cat pointedly ignored her, "Rule 3: No blood on the Club Floor. That's why we have the back rooms. There's even a basement, if you prefer to play with your food. But, I digress. It seems that Delilah has laid claim to you. Do enjoy her. She's a sweet little thing, but you're really the first one she's shown any real interest in," she paused there as she pulled her hand away from the cat ignoring her and waved that hand for the attention of someone else.

She wasn't surprised when Tybalt appeared behind her, "Offer her a job. Whatever she wants. And..." she paused and gestured to the remains around them, "Package up the remainder of her meal to go," she offered while looking at Elizabetta.

Vexx was unusual, even for a demon. She was half Nightmare, half Dark Nomad. Two clans that had no right to breed, much less produce offspring. Thankfully, she was the only one. She knew what her scent did to most nonhumans. And she enjoyed it. She knew she smelled like something that should terrify them, something pulled from the back of the primitive brain, something that would eat you in the dark and never blink over it. And that was just the Nightmare part of her.

She saw a kindred spirit in this woman.

"While Club Brimstone operates as a nightclub on the surface, we are far from that image below. We operate to allow our patrons to dip into the darker vices, to play in ways that the outside world doesn't like to look at. As far as this building is concerned, if you're not enjoying yourself, what's the point?" she said while still looking at Elizabetta.

She finally offered her hand to the woman with that teasing smile of hers, "I'm Vexx Diablos. And, you are?" she felt that introductions were in order at this point.

The screams of the weak were not long-lived. These ruffians had come into this place seeking reckless delight and wound up never leaving. All was well in that regard. But when the creature called ‘Boss’ Pet’ began burning and combusting everything in sight…Elizabetta’s nose wrinkled. Not at the smoke nor the fire. After all; she was a Flesh-Crafter. It was a simple matter to alter the structure of her body to make herself more resilient than most vampyres could hope to be. But rather the creature’s lack of tact.

This was the boss’ favorite? Surely not. Something more was afoot in this place. Right? Well…suppose it’s smarter to say Elizabetta hoped the person who ran the place was smarter than this. Why keep such a reckless and wild creature on leash? Such people were always necessary to the world and to war…but not in constant company. They could be hired or called upon as necessary. That was the format in which all brutes should be called upon. But kept in the club? Unusual…or foolish. Perhaps a bit of both…or neither. More questions than answers. Yet again this city. But what did perturb her…

…was when the thing smiled her way.

“I’ll eat those teeth, Hot Pocket.” The words rolled through the air as she stared right back at him. She was not concerned. Even if he was strong enough to kill her. Even if he had proof right in his hands that he was Creator of All...she would not be concerned. Death? Acceptable. Dishonor? Try it.

But in that very instant–whoosh--the fire was gone. Elizabetta was feeling almost a little foolish as the Traveler looked around shrugging like somebody else had been partying too hard. Once again she blinked in quiet surprise…and shrugged her shoulders. He wasn’t any kind of hostile. If anything he seemed to be a bit classy with the way he talked about keeping the place clean and reputable. She liked those kinds of people. Maybe she should go over and have a drink with him when he was less Hyde and more Jekyll.

The cat–Delilah–which leaped upon Elizabetta’s shoulders would find that she was walking across a surface as firm and solid as concrete foundation. Yet it was still comfortably plush enough at the surface for her to settle in across Elizabetta’s shoulders. Elizabetta–normally walking with an indisputably straight or regal bearing–had to tilt her head forward a sliver in order to give the cat enough space to be truly settled. She allowed this as she sat at the bar. The creature had become enamored with her. A clever thing, then.

Nate put both of his hands flat against the bartop. He leaned forward and tilted his head. Calling back to their original meeting with the very same question she had once posed to him. “Soo…what is your nature? Species?” Elizabetta smiled. Not just because he’d asked. But because he’d done so in such a clever and serendipitous manner. She chuckled at him as she bit down on the bone-carved pipe she had once again removed from within her jacket. Speaking rather well despite it being in her teeth.

“A different kind of Demon.” Nate smirked at her coy reply; and pulled a glass of bourbon onto the bartop. Elizabetta winked at Nate; and rolled another pair of diamonds across the counter. She liked this bartender a bit more every time. Classy guy. The sound of nearly-etheral footsteps caused Elizabetta’s chin to turn; and found it was not someone trying to sneak up on her. But rather a woman who walked with an air of…a scent of…ahhhh…

    …be there monsters here?

    The woman spoke with her deep-ocean colored lips. Her hair reminiscent of Cleopatra and others of her ilk. Elizabetta lit her pipe as the woman spoke to her; and even pointed a finger at the cat on Elizabetta’s shoulder. The cat was undisturbed by this. So the woman must be considered some sort of ally. When she said something about no blood on the floor, Elizabetta pulled the pipe from her teeth, blew a cloud of smoke from her nostrils, and replied;

“Those who subvert order revoke it’s protections by their own hands,” she spoke with factual certainy, “but I abhor discourtesy…and so I do apologize.” Elizabetta said with a bow of her head. “You can ask your man. I’ve paid extremely well for dhe pair of drinks and dhe few questions I’ve asked. You’ll be able to cover your damages and then some.” As Elizabetta went to take a confidently smug drag of her bone-carved pipe, Vexx would glance over at Nate.

Nate in turn would both shrug one shoulder–and nod his head at the same time. It was the truth. Elizabetta had paid in diamonds worth hundreds of thousands by themselves. All for two drinks, a couple questions, and a few corpses. “Though I find some intrigue in dhe idea someone so old would condemn dhe one who restrained themselves…” She intentionally gleaned her vision across the many burnt objects, furniture pieces, and reckless damage done by the creature she called pet. “...while accommodating such a destructive client.” Yes. Elizabetta had surmised this woman was the boss. Whether she was right remained to be seen but…monsters recognize monsters; and monsters do not follow. They Lead.

“Nevertheless–it is not my place to pry.” Elizabetta said before the woman could answer. Ensuring that she demonstrated the fact that Elizabetta could mind her own business even when she had questions.

Vexx went on to remark to some sort of bouncer-looking fellow that she wanted Elizabetta to be offered a job. Elizabetta exhaled another cloud of smoke through her nose at that one. Perhaps this fellow Elder would be someone she could offer a small gleam of interest in. Between Vexx and Delilah…things were finally starting to look up. Vexx described what the club was both without as well as within…and then offered her hand in introduction. Elizabetta set her carved pipe onto the bartop. She stood from her seat, and took the hand offered to her.

Only those who’d lived through the centuries could respect the oldest of civilized traditions. Standing when addressed. Facing directly. Eye-contact throughout. Elizabetta her head just enough to kiss the back of Vexx’s ring finger (upon the ring if she wore one there), and then released her hand.

“I am The Pale Dragon…” She remarked as she let the hand which once held Vexx’s drift up to her own shoulder; and gently scritch at the fur beneath Delilah’s chin. Feeling the cat’s chest rumble against the back of her neck. “...but you, madame, may call me Elizabetta.” If Vexx was as ancient as Elizabetta–or older–she would know the stories of The Pale Dragon. The last Tzimisce.

The Flesh-Crafter. The World-Walker. The Bone-Singer. The Kine-Scholar. The Winged Horror. Philosopher. Musician. Scholar. Monster. Many names through many ages. Never caught. Never killed. Only feared. Feared since men huddled ‘round fires and prayed for shelter.

“I believe I know at least a little of you, madam Diablos…from your times spent granting miracles in Greece, and singing to dhe night-borne children of Egypt…” That ancient scholarly wisdom once again glinting it’s way through. “In truth dhe word that I sought work was a tasteful lie,” Elizabetta said softly as she once again gently grasped Vexx’s hand. “I have come here to conquer. Carve. Pillage my way to a seat of power; and from there…spread across dhe world. But–” Elizabetta raised her free hand into the air like a girl scout swearing oath.

“--if I know of you…then you know of me. You know I have never–ever–forced anyone to serve. Those who follow me do so because I am -right-...as I have ever been. I do not seek to claim your power–nor unseat those here who live in peace. But if you have enemies here–dear Diablos–I want them. I want their land. I want their resources. I want their blood, their bones, their flesh, their eyes, tongues, and teeth…I want them. Upon this rock…” She released Vexx’s hand and spread her palm towards the door. As if gesturing out to the whole city. Expressing that she was not a conquerer by razing or forcing people to serve. No.

She was a Dark Bishop. A Black Cleric. An Unholy Priest. Someone who’s message was not terrifying because it was cruel. Not because it was evil. Not because it was dark or macabre. No. But because…

    …it made sense.

“As a fellow Elder I’m sure you will also appreciate my history…and know that I find no good taste in eating a meal where others eat. Whether it be within a building or a city block. I am a Dragon. A Dragon’s meal…is not served. Well...” She said with a smirking glance back at the place where the corpses had already been collected from. “...not until after dhe first bite, anyway.” If Vexx was to lead Elizabetta somewhere more…private…surely there would be more for them to discuss.

The way Elizabetta kept playing with Delilah’s ears and the cat kept purring made it a clear indicator that they would be tagging along together.

"Oh and...if you have valets...they would be wise to avoid my Horse."

Vexx gave a pleased laugh that was soft but still managed to show her darkness. That laugh made Delilah shiver a little bit and snuggle her face into Elizabetta's neck. She'd never liked that laugh. It sparked old nightmares that she didn't want to revisit.

"Ah... Greece... Full of old idiots and beautiful boys... Egypt... Oh, the nightmares they lived with were delicious... Traveling was certainly a delightful passtime. For now, I enjoy my time playing my games here. Operating in the shadows is certainly more fun these days. Making them my puppets so that they dance on my strings..." she said softly, her tone very pleased as she reveled in the power she wielded in this town.

"As for my precious one... We usually make sure that he goes to his own playroom when someone flips his switch. It's easier to clean up there as well. He may seem problematic, but he's useful and he has his own chaotic charm. I've had him with me for a while now and I absolutely love the little darling," she sounded slightly more perky on this subject. But it was more along the lines of talking up one's pet and their accomplishments, or even a 'gifted' child scenario. Either way, she loved her little pet despite, or even because of, his destructive ways.

She waved a hand to Nate, "Nate, be a dear for me and set up one of his treats. I think he deserves one after that," she gave a delighted grin that could only be described as unholy when she looked back at her guest, "He gets cranky when I have to pull his leash," she commented simply.

Delilah chose that moment to move from Elizabetta's shoulders to the bar to sit beautifully next to her new Master. She tapped the bartop and meowed at Nate. He gave a nod and slid over another of her fruity drinks and gestured for one of the waitresses to bring over a new dress for her so that she could shift form. Then he went back to making the arrangements to get the Traveler into the back hallway in a scene of guided chaos that beautifully choreographed. Once in the back hallways, he would be guided into his special room where a fire demon was waiting. The idiot had come with the brilliant idea to try to convince Vexx and her Exiles to turn against the Demonic Throne. Well, he was now one of three new playtoys for her precious one.

When the dress was brought back, Delilah jumped down from the bar and shifted without shame, her curves on full display as she reached for the dress to slide it over her head. Thankfully, she never tore her clothes when she shifted. Once dressed and wearing a pair of low heels that put the top of her head right below Elizabetta's chin, she turned those amber eyes to her with a shy smile, "You'll be my Master now, right? Please?" she asked softly, her voice delightfully soft and sweet without being cloying.

Vexx heard that and just gave a soft laugh, "There isn't much room for a new empire here, Elizabetta. But there is certainly plenty of room for someone that wants to play with others. Even if it's their head. Otherwise, I can make arrangements to find you a landing spot to start with. From the information I've picked up, South America might be the Hunting Ground you need. If you can oust the potential problems there. Unfortunately, they're well-entrenched, well-armed, and well-magicked. Plus, you'll actually do better to go there by ship. That arrangement would be more stealthy than your usual entrance. Plus, one would certain enjoy spreading out the feeds. Too many at once just makes a glutton. And you've never been a glutton," she pointed out.

She finally waved a negligent hand, "But I have someone else to entertain at the moment. I'll leave you with my Manager Tybalt, the best bartender in town Nate, and the delightful charms of our dear Delilah," she gave her a bow that was slightly teasing but no less serious before she turned on her heel and headed back to her room where Cyrus was waiting for her.

Delilah had never taken her amber eyes away from Elizabetta. She hadn't even touched her fruity drink yet. Instead, she was waiting for a response to her question.

Vexx’s explanation of her pet was not…dissatisfying…but nor did it bring her resolution. A favored toy, perhaps? Whatever the issue. Vexx had said as much as she was willing to share and she never was obliged to offer even that much. So Elizabetta would gratefully accept the answers she’d been given.

It was then that Delilah leaped from Elizabetta; and began to interact with our charming bartender. Nate made his usual move–nodding someone else into action–and that staff member came rushing back with a dress. For a moment Elizabetta wondered why they would bring it out here…and then Delilah shifted her forms. Changing right before them all. Shameless and naked as any cat would ever be. Elizabetta was no prude. Of course she took the same opportunity everyone else did to look as Delilah got dressed; and did not find her eye wanting.

When she turned to look up at The Pale Dragon, she asked if it would be her master. A question she had been asked time and time again through the ageless centuries. But this one…this one was special in a myriad of reasons. A new species. A lovely face. A serene voice. The cat form was a nice touch…and the first creature in all the unraveled world to come to her after the apocalypse. Elizabetta offered a small smile; and raised her finger to touch at Delilah’s nose. As anyone would to tease a cat.

“Wait just a moment.” Elizabetta left one hand set upon Delilah’s shoulder; and turned back to finish listening to Vexx.

An honest answer if she’d ever been given one. Not much room. That wasn’t too difficult to interpret. Too many powers. Too many wheels. That wasn’t something to just dismiss and say ‘so what?’ It was key information. A place with too many variables cannot be conquered. Rebellions, upstarts, betrayers, underdogs…the list goes on and on. Elizabetta had only been here for a full evening and already discovered the scents of spies and subterfuge. Elizabetta had feared as much…but it was good to hear from the mouth of an Elder she could respect.

South America…hm. A good goal. She’d heard rumors of a Vatican-esque city being built there…perhaps…just perhaps…they weren’t too indoctrinated into their foolish scriptures to be shown the true light. The majesty of Saraquael.

“I thank you, madame Diablos…you have given me much to consider.” Elizabetta nodded her farewells as Vexx trailed off to resume her pressing schedule. A busy woman to be sure.

Elizabetta turned her attention back to Delilah. Who was all but bounding on her heels to hear the answer waiting for her. Elizabetta chuckled. The scar on her chin trembling with each draw of unliving breath.

“Delilah…a face of fragile beauty…a voice of gentle harp…” She began coolly, lifting one hand to rest against Delilah’s cheek as she continued. “...furs of earthen splendor…and wisdom enough to stand within my Pale Light. I name you Delilah Serebryakov...and before I share dhe philosophies wisdom has granted me…we will begin with this truth. Never forget this, Delilah;” Delilah’s eyes were ensorcelled by the ecliptic suns which burned in Elizabetta’s irises. By the words which were so calm yet passionate. Romantic yet distantly observed all at once.

Her nerve endings had been shut down in her cranium the moment Elizabetta had touched her cheek. Her brain was fully functional and undisturbed. As was Delilah. But Elizabetta was already rewiring certain synaptic patterns through their physical contact; and what Delilah saw next was something she would never–ever–come to forget.

“Heaven Lives…in dhe Palm of my Hand.”

Delilah’s vision was swept away. All was black for a single instant…and then….

    …she gasped.

A gorgeous ruby–no. Blood-red sky. Puffy white clouds that stretched out into the horizon. An endless field of silvery grass accented by the remnants of some long-forgotten battle between ancient armies. Black roses charred with blue embers dotted the landscape; and they blossomed wherever Delilah stepped her bare feet. He dress billowed on a gentle breeze; and a staircase of floating stones led up to what looked to be the most elegant floating palace anyone had ever seen.

Delilah found herself…weightless. She leaped through the air. Giggling like a madwoman as she felt nothing but wonderment, joy, ecstacy, curiosity, and tranquility. Free of care or burden as she bound through the air. Hopping from stone to stone until at least she arrived upon the highest level. Stepping onto the palace floor and hearing the gentle strum of Elizabetta’s Guqin in the room beyond. As Delilah approached–listening to the music play–she would notice that Elizabetta was not playing. She merely stood at the edge of the palace. Looking out across the fields of silver-grass and black roses.

The Guqin played entirely on it’s own. Elizabetta spoke; and Delilah approached in curious eagerness as her new Ruler did so.

“Know these things as I speak them, Delilah…and never forget them.” She said with a glance to her new First Acolyte.

“First…no one is born with a Soul.” She said firmly. “Think of dhe man raised in dhe slums who grows to be a criminal. Think of dhe boy raised by a religious family to be religious himself. Think of dhe girl who lives in dhe countryside raised to love rural communities. Think of dhe woman raised under a nuclear family who grows to demand dhe same for herself.” She recited these things that anyone on Earth would recognize as very factual and very common events.

“Programmed. Just as you build a clock to tell dhe time…creatures birth more creatures to shape them dhe way they want to. They are not individuals thinking of their own mind. They are programmed. Brainwashed. So…how does one earn a Soul?” She asked Delilah. The young cat watched with glimmering eyes as she waited for her answer.

“Fission. Conflict of dhe mind. Taking what you were raised to believe–from your environment, your family, your childhood friends, your adolescence–and smashing it against everything you discover in the world. What you study. What you research. What you find. What you experience. Who you meet. If you allow what you were programmed to think to Fuse with what you discover of the world, then–only then–do you finally create your soul. Only then are you truly an individual.”

Elizabetta reached up, and placed one hand upon Delilah’s back. Moving the woman towards the center of the palace; and allowing the volume of the Guqin to lessen a bit. “To that end…human life–any life–is not inherently precious. A life is precious based on dhe merits of it’s history…or lack thereof. If a living being obstructs dhe peace–if they mean to do harm–if they seek a means of trampling over others without consideration–then they deserve death.” She released Delilah; and sighed through her nose.

“Something happened when men still huddled around fires. Before so many myriad races came to be. You see…one of those loincloth wearing savages–one day–saw something terrible. He saw another man being beaten, or eaten, or worse.

For the first time–ever–he had a thought no other Caveman had before. That thought was…’what if that was me?’ In that moment his imagination gave way to putting himself in that person’s shoes. In that moment…Empathy was born. Then that Caveman continued on his way.

A second Caveman comes along. This Caveman sees dhe same atrocity taking place. He thinks dhe same thing. Feels dhe same Empathy. But then…he has a second thought. That second thought is…‘if I could do that to someone else…I would not. Because I hate dhe idea of it being done to me.’ In that moment…Principle was born. Then that Cavemen continued on his way.

Caveman number three comes forward. Same thoughts as dhe first two. But this one is bigger, and stronger. He is courageous. He has a third thought that dhe other two did not have. This one thinks…‘I’m going to put a stop to this because it isn’t right. Even if I risk my life knowing I could die for something avoidable.’ In that moment…Valor was born. The man rushes into the fray…and he is killed. He saves no one.

Caveman number four witnessed what happened to Caveman three. Caveman four has all dhe same thoughts as before…but he knows if he charges in? He will die. So what does he do?”
She asked Delilah. By now Delilah was in the lotus position. Her chin on her fists. Shaking her head as she waited intently for the answer.

“He says to himself…’I wonder…if I go get those other men who think like me…can we do something about this?’ In that moment…Wisdom is born. He rushes to go get dhe first two cavemen who came around. Together–dhe three of them–put an end to dhe atrocity. They save a life; and they are victorious.

They gather together when all is said and done…and they say…‘look what we did here. Look what we accomplished. If we did this everywhere, spread this word, we could make this a safe world to live in. We could protect each other. We could all live in harmony.’ In that moment, Delilah…Humanity was born…and with it? Civilization.”
Elizabetta allowed a moment for her rich indisputable logic to sink into Delilah…and then carried on.

“Empathy. Principle. Valor. Wisdom. In all things that we do–that you do from this day forward–must reflect these four Tenets. For it is these four things combined which seperates those of us who have a Soul…from those of us who are simple animals. Do you understand?” Delilah blinked a few times. Repeating every word in her head as much as she could. “I-I think I do.” Delilah said after a time.

Elizabetta smiled. “I will help you. Every step of dhe way.” With that Elizabetta reached up, and bit into her own wrist. A ruby trail slid down her arm; and she reached out to Delilah. Crouching down, and reaching forward to touch Delilah’s chin. Pushing her head back just enough that she could drink the blood that fell into her mouth.

Reality came rushing back; and there she was. Standing in Brimstone once again; and actually drinking the blood as it was being offered. Nate watched utterly fascinated. From his perspective? Elizabetta had been smiling, standing there, and speaking the entire time. While Delilah simply stared directly into Elizabetta’s eyes. Speaking softly and responding only briefly. But now–returned to reality–Delilah began to straighten out again.

”Today marks dhe first day of dhe rest of your life…dear Delilah-mine.”

Delilah was lost in everything Elizabetta told her, but her devotion was still instant and unquestioned. When the bloody wrist was offered, Delilah didn't hesitate. She opened her mouth and accepted it.

Again, while she wasn't too fond of blood, it was more along the lines of not wanting it in her fur. She was enough of her animal that a little blood was simply nothing more than the sign of a good hunt. Many birds and rodents had fallen prey to her teeth and claws. But, the main prey she'd been hunting lately were toys. She particularly liked a feathered ball Vexx had given her.

She drank what she was offered, her amber eyes closing as she got lost in the power moving through her.

On the other side of the bar, Nate changed out the drink for Delilah and added a refill on the bourbon, "Give this to her when she comes out of it. Catnip Cocktail. She's not allowed very many of these, but I think she deserves one today," he said simply, knowing that the cocktail would give the feline shifter the boost she needed to clear her head. But he gave a small teasing smile, "It might make her a little bit hyper, but she's always cute with it rather than annoying. One time she drank two of them and shifted, then she ran around the dance floor chasing lights for four hours," he admitted before he wandered off.

After a few more moments, Delilah's eyes blinked and her nose twitched as she caught the scent of catnip. But her eyes still went to Elizabetta first and offered a small smile. Right before she impulsively moved in to wrap her arms around the woman's waist, tucking her face against her shoulder. Delilah's scent was pleasant: orchid and ginger. Sweetness with a hint of spice. She felt plenty of emotion right now. But the main one was that she'd finally been Claimed by someone, chosen by someone. She'd been looking for the right person for so long.

Her own history wasn't nice at all. Her first real memory was of being alone, lost in a dark alley as a kitten. It had taken her a year to be strong enough to shift form, and even then it had just gotten her targeted. Only when Vexx had accidentally saved her, had she found someone to follow. Vexx wasn't a cat person, though. Mantis was more the kind of pet that the female demon loved. Instead, she'd gotten Delilah healed up and had given her training and a job.

But this was the moment she'd been looking for. This was the moment she'd been hoping for.

After a moment, she felt a hand moving through her hair and gave a pleased sound at the sensation, finding that she liked being petted in this form as well. She finally pulled back to look at Elizabetta with that small smile of hers, "What training do I do first, Master?" she asked simply, her eyes focused solely on her.

So far, her training had been purely entertainment based, as well as enough basics to keep her from being uneducated.

Her nose twitched again at the scent of catnip, doing her best to not react to it.

    The Pale Elysium.

A world of Elizabetta’s own imagining. You cannot imagine the level of discipline required to not only construct such a glorious illusion. But to maintain, project, and share it? Illusion is perhaps too restricting a word. For there was no magic nor supernatural phenomena in what she shared. It was all simply a matter of chemistry, and physiology. Stimulating the right synaptic nerves in the right symphonic sequences in order to create the biological orchestra that was inducing hallucination.

Reality is governed by perception; and perception governed by the brain. Those who can freely alter the brain…can freely alter the reality of whomever unfortunate enough to be caught in their grasp.

Someone spoke. Elizabetta’s eyes flickered in momentary irritation as Delilah craned her neck and ingested the blood pouring in a thick stream from Elizabetta’s wrist. When Elizabetta realized it was Nate who’d interrupted them her gaze seemed to soften. He’d been nothing but cordial after all. She nodded her thanks to him; and allowed Delilah to process the phenomenon taking place in her body. She was–if only a little–of Elizabetta’s blood. This allowed several benefits.

The ability to self-heal through Flesh-Craft and Bone-Craft. The potential to be tracked throughout the world by Elizabetta so long as nothing interferes with their connection. The potential for her emotional distress or physical danger to immediately “ping” Elizabetta. The potential for Elizabetta to communicate words through thought via their shared blood. But perhaps the biggest benefit of all–at least for Delilah–is she now carried the scent of an Ancient Horror.

Those with the ability to sense or smell such things would think twice before daring to encroach upon her. Or–at the very least–they would have no excuse for the unbridled violence that came after such a crime.

Delilah had finished acclimating to the new blood. It would never take long. A Flesh-Crafter’s blood assimilates much better than most as you might imagine. The young thing wrapped her arms around Elizabetta, and hugged her head against the Pale Dragon’s shoulder. Elizabetta smiled in that gentle and stolid way. Before raising her hand and running her fingers through Delilah’s hair. It was important to care for one’s own. In this we are all bound to one another. She asked Elizabetta what to do first; and called her ‘Master.’ Elizabetta’s smile lessened a bit; and then grew back to full.

“First,” Elizabetta began to reply, “abandon that word. You follow me because it was what you chose,” She said as she placed one hand upon Delilah’s shoulder, and reached the other one to grab the glass of catnip…something. She’d have to teach Delilah how to enjoy a good tea with catnip. The combination of herbs would likely do both her mind and body wonders. Once Delilah had the drink she would begin walking with Elizabetta towards the corner of the room. Giving themselves a bit more privacy.

After the scene they had all just witnessed the patrons who sat in the area all got a bit less comfortable. A few even went to different tables. This worked perfectly for Elizabetta.

“I am your Primus. Your Lord…and you are my Delilah. First and most cherished Acolyte…but I am not your Master. So long as I walk this Earth none will ever be your Master again. Your voice–your will–I expect you to use it. Speak against me. Disagree with me. Dispute what I say.

Only choose to accept my words as Truth if you believe them. I would not have accepted you if I did not think your voice to be an essential piece of my Vision. Even I am not *always* right…though I come very close.”
She said with a small bit of smugness in her voice. “Second…we will train. I will make you *strong.* But first we require more Souls brimming with potential. Much like your own.” She said as she found a quiet wall to stand near. They weren’t going to be staying too long; and so sitting seemed pointless.

“Your first task in my Name is thus; tell me of one such person. Someone with potential; and no true purpose. We shall begin with one at a time. Here is what I require:” Elizabetta placed her hand against Delilah’s cheek once more; and Delilah’s mind would be momentarily occupied as she processed Elizabetta’s needs.

Three…no…four. Four acolytes. If she could find three more souls as radiant as Delilah’s. Well…radiant in Elizabetta’s terms. Three more to stand in her Pale Light and see the Truth of the world.

A First Warlord to intimidate her enemies. Someone to fool the opposition into thinking they were Elizabetta’s only means of protection. A militant individual. They had to be strong...combat-ready. Capable. The training and experience Elizabetta could provide through stimulation of the body and brain. That was simple. She could turn the body of a scrawny teenager into the body of a martial artist who’d trained for a hundred years. That was a simple task. But she needed a strong base. Something that terrified and inspired all at once. Just as she did.

A First Auctoris with which to consult when Elizabetta was unsure. This would perhaps be the most difficult position to fill. Much like a royal vizier they would be the one in whom Elizabetta sought wisdom other than her own. For you see Elizabetta was no tyrant; and she was no fool. One can be as endless and timeless as Creation. One can be as knowledgeable as all the species’ texts and discoveries combined…but each of us will always–-always—be limited to the scope of our own individual potential. Our own prejudices, preconceptions, and presuppositions. A reliable Auctoris would be the voice which told Elizabetta, “My Lord, wait. There is a better way.”

A First Ignoblis to serve as her Spymaster. Someone capable of treading the darkest corners of the world. Who feared no death; and sought no forgiveness. Someone who could infiltrate, reconnoiter, scrutinize, interpret, and report back to Elizabetta without ever being known or seen. Someone willing to assassinate as necessary; and steal whatever was required to further their goals. Someone in whom shadow found a constant friend; and in whom Elizabetta could always count on to get the job done. No small amount of duty nor glory to such a position.

Elizabetta removed her hand from Delilah’s cheek; and settled them upon her shoulders. “You Delilah…shall be my First Regent. I will train you. I will teach you…and you will be dhe Voice of my Will. It will be you who represents us to new faces, and new races. For every cat is an Empress all her own…and should carry herself as such. In fine dress and even finer posture. I will raise you into dhe Queen you have always been.” She said with a gentle tap to Delilah’s nose.

“Now–you need not fear falling short–do you have any souls in mind?”

Delilah gave a soft smile as she considered everything. There were a few people that were possible, but she'd only had a passing connection with them, so she wasn't entirely certain about them. But, before she could even mention them, she had something else to address.

She took a drink from the glass she was offered and gave a purring shiver as the catnip in the cocktail hit her system almost instantly. It gave her amber eyes a sparkle that showed how close to the surface her cat was. She took another drink that finished off the glass and gave another shiver as the rest of the catnip threatened to make her shift. She held it back, though, showing that she did have some control over her shift.

As they were pulled into a back corner, she looked into Elizabetta's eyes with that small smile playing with her generous lips, "I don't call you that as a sign of slavery or anything like that. When I was younger and I pictured who would hold my Bond, I always knew that I would call that person Master. It's not a bad thing, it's a sign of respect and honor. If you don't like that one, you'll have to pick something else for me to call you," she explained calmly, her eyes still sparkling with the catnip but showing that she was fully in control of herself.

Her stubborn streak was showing, though. She was enough of a cat that she meant what she said: Elizabetta would have to come up with something for her to call her or the Master would stick. Firmly.

Delilah liked being a pet. She liked being petted and getting attention. But only when she wanted it. When she didn't, she stayed in her room in the back. She was very independent as any cat would be.

She had, however, chosen Elizabetta as her 'owner', as some cats did.

"By the way... My cat has never gotten on anyone's shoulders before," she pointed out with a teasing hint to her smile. To be honest, her cat form was even more independent than her human form. But she'd never actually explained any of that to anyone.

Then she got serious, "As for the people you want... There's an Angel that hangs out here that might be good for muscle... I know a pixie that's annoyingly good at managing people... And there's Ivy. I don't know what race she is, but she's very sneaky," she said thoughtfully, considering each person she knew but finally stopping on those three.

Ellias wasn't so bad. He was lower level and wanted to advance, but he basically stuck being muscle. His wings, which she'd only seen once, were a pale grey with the flight feathers being sharp enough to slice whole trees.

Sage was an opinionated pixie with wings that looked like a Luna Moth, as he was sure to tell anyone that mistook them for a buttterfly. He was good looking for a guy that was somewhere between two and three feet tall, with enough of an attitude to keep anyone from running him over. In fact, he kept the park he lived in very well-run and wasn't afraid to tell anyone no.

Ivy was a wildcard. Delilah didn't know what race she was. Ivy had hair that was dark green, growing naturally what way. She had eyes that were a pale color that Delilah had never seen very clearly. No one knew when she arrived at the club. The Bouncers never remembered seeing her enter or leave. She was just there at a table when she showed up and left just as mysteriously. It was why Delilah thought she'd be good for a spy.

Those were the people that she thought of when Elizabetta mentioned that she wanted more people.

She purrs. Even in her human form. Elizabetta let a soft chuckle sound within her throat as Delilah enjoyed the catnip she’d been given. Elizabetta heard Delilah’s objection regarding the word ‘Master,’ and Elizabetta’s smile lessened a bit. She was not anything wrong nor was she–herself–wrong to imply that a word only has so much meaning as the one speaking it. There is merit to that point. Of course there is. But this is another example of what Elizabetta would call “poorly-timed idealism.”

Elizabetta was old. She was old enough that time had long ago lost meaning to her. Yet the lessons she had learned were things she held more dear than anything about herself. One of the most prominent lessons being this: one cannot simply decide to move on from history. An answer must be given. A toll must be paid; and the costs must be counted. Consider this: if one were to call another ‘Nazi,’ then the other might take offense. ‘I’m not a Nazi!’ they would say. Because the term alone is inherent to so much evil and ill-will that it cannot be discounted.

The word ‘Master’ is no different. In fact it could quite easily be argued that ‘Master’ and similar titles–Primus, Dominus, Caesar, King, Emperor, Shogunate–have been held by countless more evil men throughout the world than there have ever been Nazi. The only real difference is that the Nazi’s were gathered to a single era by a single nation. This man them much easier to villainize–as they deserved to be–simply because it was easier for the mortal mind to frame the scope of their evil upon the world. If Elizabetta were to gather every evil man whom had ever called himself ‘Master” into a single place and time…the Reich would seem like a much smaller obstacle than it ever really was.

But that was not the only reason.

Old. Old enough that every life–every face, every name–was considered a temporary adjustment. Nothing endured as long as she did. The few creatures who did had long since established their places in this world. Those who had survived the armageddon which man had so richly deserved would all be much like Vexx Diablos. Established and entrenched in a world where they could finally find themselves to be liberated from both Sol as well as Kine. Elizabetta had long, long ago given up on any idea of true intimacy or romance.

To find a soul as richly profound as her own seemed a stark impossibility. To find someone who has plumbed the depths of themselves, of their ideals, of their humanity, and arrived upon a set code or philosophy of which they can be utterly certain. Someone who enjoyed sitting in silence for no reason other than to fine-tune the functions of their own consciousness. Someone who found beauty in the sophistication of simplicity; and prioritized their place in the world far above their own life.

She knows–in her stilled heart–that in this…she will always be alone.

“Maestro.” Elizabetta uttered after a long pause between them. Raising her hand to once again brush against Delilah’s hair; and then hold her face in Elizabetta’s hand. “You may call me Maestro. That is what we called Da Vinci when I studied under him.” She explained in gentle tones. An honorific that was meant for exceptional artists rather than owners or rulers. It felt more fitting; and left a much more pleasant taste on Elizabetta’s tongue.

She chuckled a bit more audibly when Delilah remarked about the cat never going on anyone’s shoulders before. She moved her hand from Delilah’s cheek; she then gently pinched Delilah’s chin with her thumb and index finger. Pushing Delilah’s face ever-so-slightly upwards. Elizabetta leaned in close; and planted a soft kiss in the center of Delilah’s forehead. So soft it didn’t make a sound. When Elizabetta pulled her face back again, she spoke.

“Then you may call these shoulders ‘home,’ my Delilah. Perhaps one day soon I’ll take you flying with me.” She released Delilah’s chin; and slipped her hands into her pockets as Delilah answered Elizabetta’s query.

“There’s an Angel that hangs out here that might be good for muscle.” Elizabetta’s eyes drifted upwards as she began to think. A Fallen. A proposition that was tempting and frustrating in equal measure. On the latter hand a Fallen is pretty much the molecular opposite of Elizabetta. Their abilities and attributes made them a natural nemesis; like ants and anteaters. So long as The Pretender continues to provide them with blessings then they can be quite the challenge to deal with. On the former hand…a Fallen would make for an excellent diplomatic decoration.

The very sight of a Kindred traveling with a Fallen would incite question and curiosity. It would certainly make those at that Vatican-esque city at least reconsider attacking her on sight. The world of men as they know it has ended after all….

“A pixie that’s annoyingly good at managing people…” A Pixie...now a pixie Elizabetta could work with. She had made many pacts, accords, barters, and successful negotiations with the Changelings of the world. From Slu’agh to Seelie. The race of the Fae–or what remained of them after the calamity–had made many deals with The Pale Dragon, and all of them had been mutually beneficial. Elizabetta had never once crossed the Fae for fear of being dragged into The Dreaming.

The Dreaming was not only beyond her influence but beyond her ambition. She had no interest in the worlds she had no interest in. She was merely here to make the world she’s been given a brighter one.
“Then there’s Ivy. I don’t know what race she is but she’s very sneaky.” Didn’t know what race? Elizabetta’s eyes flickered back down to meet Delilah’s when she said that. Curious. The staff of the Brimstone had–so far at the very least–been informative, quick-stepped, and always ready to meet every single challenge of every single patron.

Couple that fact with however-the-hell the RRT had managed to actively track her from the monastery to the Club without her catching a scent, sight, or sound from them…it was surprising to hear any creature got away with keeping their identity a secret. Elizabetta hadn’t even uttered her own name in the city limits before the policing body had started monitoring her whereabouts.

So if the girl had–somehow–managed to keep her identity a secret…it was only more evidence of her capability as an agent of espionage. The gathering of intelligence was one of–no. It was the most important aspect of warfare. An army of 10 can crush an army of 1,000 if the first army has the right intelligence. So as for where she should begin…the answer was clear. Yet Delilah made the mention that Ivy was hard to track. Exactly the sort of thing you wanted to hear about a potential spymaster. For now…she’d begin with the logistician. Perhaps they could be of some assistance in finding Ivy. The muscle she would save for last.

    They may require some…hands-on conscription.

“Come, Delilah.” Elizabetta commanded coolly as she turned away. The loving matriarchal caretaker had been swept away by the ambitious pale horror who sought to rule the world…for the sake of the world. Elizabetta did pause–however–and turn to see if Delilah would choose to follow as in her feline form or her human one. If she chose feline then Elizabetta would once again allow Delilah to take her perch upon Elizabetta’s firm shoulders.

Delilah all but skipped out of her dress; and launched herself onto the table they’d been standing behind before hopping once again onto Elizabetta’s shoulders. She purred contentedly as she settled in behind Elizabetta’s neck. Elizabetta’s voice quietly echoing within the corridors of Delilah’s mind. “Now, Pussycat…bring me to the one you call Sage.”

Delilah gave a happy sound at the nickname, the mental communication new to her and would take a little bit of time to get the hang of. Instead of words, she offered a map of the city. It was punctuated by what places smelled like and who was where, mainly detailing who she preferred to avoid and where her cat could safely play.

But, a beautiful park appeared on the map in the Market District.

Her memory of the place was a very clear moment of absolute hilarity.

Delilah had drunk too many of the Catnip Cocktails and had gotten out of the club building. She'd somehow managed to get herself to that park and found her cat delighted by the fresh grass and trees. But the kicker to the memory were the pixies. They ran that park and kept it well-kept and beautiful. Since she'd gotten out at night, the pixies she'd encountered were moth varieties. One of them had directed the others in teasing her cat to keep her busy running around until she was worn out.

It was both fun and embarrassingly hilarious.

But, as her tail moved along Elizabetta's arm, she had given her a direction and a face to go with the name.
