Octavia Balam

Professor of magical studies

How interesting, this class was quite the opportunity for.. this or that... as she suspected it was also full of the kind of minds that might be good candidates for her little field trip she had planned. The flustered young lady that had just left for example.. Octavia wondered if she scared her off.. having one demon in the room let alone two may have triggered such a response whether the girl even understood what she did or not. Would it be too sadistic to chase after that one specifically? Octavia touched her own face a bit grinning like an excited fiend running her well kept little finger barely along the corner of her bottom lip, it was ironic that despite noting the obvious mask of the man in the front of the room she who sat in the back was the one less confident in the fit of her mask.

Time passed, it was at last time to be moving and rather quickly.. as if the room had been frozen in time the clock had spun a great deal. Rousing speeches did that sometimes. Octavia stood from her seat and gestured towards this signal that time was up quietly as she made her way outside, just as quietly gesturing for the substitute teacher to join her on the way out. During the few moments before the class was dismissed she'd wait outside to think up an excuse to have someone dashing walk her to her own class.

Just as Professor Locust was finishing up the first part of his lecture and was awaiting any potential questions before continuing, Rei would notice a woman entering the classroom. It seemed obvious that they too, was a demon, much like Professor Locust, however they seemingly made no attempt to disguise this fact, or at least make it less obvious than Professor Locust did. Upon seeing her, Rei would feel that burning sensation once more. Definitely strange, but they would choose, once again, to continue to simply ignore it. Soon after, Juniper would abruptly get up, and quietly, as was her nature, leave the classroom. It made sense to Rei, considering she wasn't a student and had no obligation to stay. Still though, they thought it best to check up on her afterwards and ensure she was okay.

Professor Locust would continue with his lecture, and Rei would continue listening. Professor Locust spoke of countering demon's possessions, and realized that in a manner, they had put this in practice, to a degree, during the encounter with Albel in the forest. With that being said, Rei knew that was seemingly on a fluke, and could have just as easily fallen prey to his influence. Well, that didn't exactly matter right now, they thought it best not to get distracted by what could have happened and continue paying attention.

The next classification of demons, the mighty ones, seemed interesting, despite not varying too much from shapeless ones, save for some aspects. As Rei understood it, they were, in essence, the progenitors of many modern demons. However, this understanding, was likely simple at best. In any case, they were worth a few thoughts. Continuing on, the artificials were also a classification of interest to Rei, mostly because this was new knowledge to them. They seemed as if they could be powerful, but that flaw of requiring large amounts of energy was of note, of which they would be sure to jot down. And last but not least, the spawns. His coverage of them was brief, and understandably so. They would likely cover them later on in the course, and if not, study material shouldn't be hard to come by. And with that, Professor Locust would begin to wrap up the lecture and the class, but not before announcing an exam. Initially Rei questioned why an exam would be had on the first day, until they had heard the question. The answer had been given not two minutes ago, and would be simple to answer assuming one was paying attention. It seemed to simply be a formality, in any case.

Rei would answer
"That would be the mothman, Professor Locust." Simplicity itself.

One met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting.
The world began without knowledge, and without knowledge will it end.
Dost not this ring clear and true?
Fear not, the dark, my friend.
      And let the feast begin.

Now that class was concluded and the bell tolled for the next session, he would refer them to their specific next class on their first day. Even though many other students weren't here yet, he was glad one of them attended and quite a few others (NPCs). The black, hard-cover book closed with his right hand and his left hand went back to its proper place at his side and not supporting the underside of his chin or supporting the hand that held the book. This wasn't his first time giving a lecture, but he felt that for just having an hour to teach so much wasn't enough to go in depth with all these histories and theories. If this was a proper class, he could've been in the first hierarchy for the entire duration of the first quarter of the class. This was more of a hands-on type class that would emphasize defense over theory, so he couldn't. At least the skimmed knowledge could one day prove useful to those who sat here for a little while... or at least he hoped for that with all the entrails of what was left of his body. He would speak once more to refer them to the next class that was due. He was quite sure that the brilliant Professor Alderliesten had a few interesting facts and history about vampire-kind, but he was not so rude as to interrupt her class. They had already build a certain theorem on how vampire-kind came to be together anyways. So with all these words, theories, and histories, he bid adieu .

"The bell tolls and the next class is Vampire History with Professor Alderliesten. Please listen carefully to what she has to say. Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veered most verbose."

Right after saying that he bowed with both his hands open to the side in a jester-like manner. He truly was an entertainer and was well-educated. The strange thing was that right after doing this gesture, he turned into an inconspicuous black cat to portray the true meaning of being a shapeless one as an example. He walked with his four legs right out of the door and looked back at the teacher who was waiting for him to exit for some reason. Perhaps she wanted to have a leisurely talk among educated souls outside of the classroom and exchange wisdom just like he did with the other female professor. Whatever she wanted, he only stopped to look back at her just to accept that invitation and lead her to somewhere where they could share this knowledge and then kept on walking lightly outside of this one building and to the Academy Grounds.
