Lawrence seemed to find Melvin more interesting than the news and had switched from watching it to watching him instead. Butch looked like he was dozing. "So you are heaven's PR guy." And this seemed to feel more familiar, given a deep and instinctual sense that the blonde man was a meddler. "You helped cover up that time in London didn't you? With the fire. I remember that." And it was odd that he remembered something three hundred and fifty years ago but nothing from this same year. "Some of them call you the humanmancer downstairs. They make you sound a lot more impressive I think." And his laugh was a sharp little bark.
"You are more than you seem to be. More than just paper pushing. More like a divine receptionist or travelling salesman."
He followed Melvin's glance to the clock and then back to him. "He's at work, with the cute little animals right now. It's just you and me."
He got up and moved over to drop himself to sit on Melvin's knee. He was very very light and very boney. "Which is just fine with me. It's not every day I get to meet someone famous."

It was true he was the go-to guy for work of this nature, and since he had taken up a few hosts through the centuries to make public appearances or at least influenced a few human political figures to get enough figures to quell major events that would have pointed a big finger in a very suspicious direction, he might have been known for a certain set of skills. He did not think he was famous however or worth talking about. He didn't even know he had a nickname downstairs, and he frowned at being called a humanmancer. Manipulation of humans was something a lot of angels knew, and it made it sound devious by having that name.
It was alarming how quickly Lawr was piecing together who he was, who he worked for, and how he operated. His entire presentation and ruse was being torn through like tissue paper in a matter of minutes, and he could feel himself start to unravel in turn.
"I-I'm not impressive at all. The fire was easy enough to explain at the time. There were a lot of hands that helped with that not just me." He just helped with the news reporters and police officers doing the investigation to give them some planted evidence that it was nothing more than a house fire gone out of control in a poorly constructed city.
Even more flustered to be called impressive, he jerked back in his seat as Lawr approached him, expecting the demon to somehow just KNOW what he was up to and deliver whatever unholy wrath right here in Rodney's living room. The TV buzzed in the background far away from his focus. A dog rescued a toddler from a Bar-B-Que fire.
Then he felt the weight of him on his knee and he rose his hands up in defense and also to keep his hands anywhere near the demon. "Oh....Oh....I'm .....you shouldn't...." And he was - just sitting there. The weight was alarming, the proximity doubling that.
"I'm....I'm not famous." He said, voice shrinking as he held his hands up, all tense and hair slightly rising in an unnatural way.

Lawrence was pleased by the response his movement earned him and decided that Melvin's lap was a fine seat. Butch didn't even move short of laying his head back down where Lawrence had been prior.
"You are though." he said lightly. "Very famous. I don't remember much about heaven or hell but I know that even with humans its the propaganda people who do a lot of the legwork behind the scenes. I'm a bit of a fan I think, would explain why I was so pleased to see you and even more pleased that you've come to stay."
"I wonder." he crooned, leaning against Melvin's chest and swinging his legs a little. "What big disaster they are worried about this time. Appleton's hardly ground zero for anything other than little outdoor hippy festivals and suburban humans."
"Or are you on vacation too? I think we all need one. I mean that's what my boss told me."
Up close the most remarkable thing about Lawrence was that he didn't seem to smell like anything at all, no warm human smell, no perfume or cologne, just absent and where any hint of power seeped through he felt like a run of the mill principality, all fledgeling abilities and limited risk.
"You are famous to me."

Alarms levers were being pulled down to signal all lights possible in his mind at Lawr's uninvited close proximity. Once he leaned, Melvin jerked his head back, exposing his neck as he tried to move all parts of him away from Lawr. His hands had only managed to create the barest of buffers, placed now against Lawr's shoulder as the demon leaned against him.
There was a clear devoid of any feelings from the demon. He expected the most sinister taint, the sourest of smells, or maybe the most tempting? Out of all his curious musing on the subject, what limited time he gave them to avoid entertaining such thoughts, he didn't expect nothing. He....must have been so good to cover up everything entirely?!
Melvin on the other hand held the smell of an angel who did a lot of time on Earth. Fresh clothes, soap and shampoo, and yet a slight smell of citrus and the sea.
"I'm...I'm not famous at all and I don't take ve-vacations." He managed the last word with some difficulty, and then pressed his hands out to move Lawr at least away from his quickly-beating chest. "Please. This....this is not a good place for you to sit. May I ask you to sit back on the couch?" He said, his voice shrinking and pinched as he tried to get his bearings back. The only person who had ever sat on his lap in the past century had been a small human child and even then he was unsure of how to handle the situation until the mother retrieved him. The only one to save him here was out at work.
He should have not been punctual and arrived on time.

The exposed neck for just a moment held Lawrence's attention and he seemed to examine Melvin with an intensity he had not before. "No vacations at all, that's fairly grim." he said.
"And oh I don't know, it's a pretty comfortable place to sit, if I'm really honest. Better than the couch. It's not a problem. It's just your knee, it's not like it's anything untowards. I'm not lust, and you aren't chastity. Unless that's something you'd be into re-enacting."

Melvin grabbed Lawr's shoulders to keep the man steady, shot right up, and placed the demon in front of him at arm's length. Then he released his hands to set the man free from his sudden movement.
"No." He said firmly but with clear difficulty. It was surprising he could even conjure a word for his mouth to express anything about the state he was in.
Hands up, he managed the word again. "No." He managed one step back away from Lawr and the chair.
"Is there some place to put my bag or.....something else to do?" He couldn't be sitting her anymore. It was driving him crazy and Lawr was adding gasoline to the problem.

Lawrence didn't look offended in the least about being manhandled, at least insofar as to be stood up. He hadn't seen such a wonderful outburst of emotion in some time he was sure. It was like being rewarded with a fireworks show for just a little coaxing and cajoling. "Yeah, I never liked Lust much anyway I think." he said with a grin. "All that generalised wanting." He was very specific in what he wanted and it involved things other people had. Even in his current state he knew it, able to feel it right down to the core of him. He wanted everything that was Melvin's, his clothes, his voice, his words, his emotions, all of it. It was always staggering and was rendered even moreso when he was interested in someone. Rodney experienced the full force of it daily but he found this new angel interesting also, for different and more harassment oriented reasons.
"We can do whatever you like." he said. "As for where to put your bag, you could set it in one of the rooms, I can help you unpack if you like. You angels are big on sharing right?"

Lawr wanted to come with him and help him unpack. He supposed that would be fine, though he only had a few things and those few things were things he didn't share with other people.
"It's really not a lot so helping wouldn't be necessary at all. It will be very easy and quick for me to unpack. You shouldn't trouble yourself. Please, relax on the couch. I can do this small thing." He said, trying his hardest to let the demon find him far less interesting than human television with it's tendency to shout and catchy commercial jingles.
"I.....will find a room." He said, looking up to where he assumed the rest of the rooms were and picking up his suitcase and laptop bag.

"No, I'm bored of the couch." Lawrence said. No one else wanted the couch so he had more or less lost complete interest in it, what was interesting right now was Melvin unpacking and Melvin's belongings. "I don't mind and I also insist." he followed Melvin along the hall, gesturing to a room. "In there is probably fine, I'm sure if Rodney needs it for something he'll say when he comes back."
He looked Melvin over. "Where did you get your clothes?" he asked. "Do you have anything I can have?"

He stared at Lawr for a good while. "I got my clothes from several stores. I do not own much. I don't think there is anything you'd want." He said, confused why Lawr even wanted to have anything he owned.
Pulling his suitcase, he entered the room and looked around. It was lightly furnished and dotted with strange depictions of the typical angel. Something in porcelain white with sad or serene, smooth faces and large, overly-curled wings. He cringed at seeing a figure of three angels holding several lambs.
"Does.....Rodney have friends that give him these angels as gifts?" He said, not sure how he accumulated what he saw. It had to gag gifts that the angel was too kind to throw out.
He set his things down and the laptop bag on the bed.

Lawrence nodded. "Not owning much just makes what you do own all the more special. And I don't know about not wanting anything." He didn't bother to explain that he wanted everything he had by definition. "I like things people have."
The demon had found the angels strange but quirky when he'd arrived and had mentally decided all of them were his and delighted just a little in how much appropriating religious images would rankle certain stuck up angels. Rodney didn't mind enthusiasm, he was always very relaxed about it.
"I think he mostly bought them himself." he said. "Humans tend to like their angels looking a lot like they do. Probably correct for you all given how you appear most of the time."
"If only they knew how ugly you lot are in your true shapes."

"Compared to what human's hold as aesthetically pleasing to the eye, we would by definition be considered ugly in some sense. The unnatural tends to come off as offensive most times." He agrees, turning the statue around and moving to unload his laptop bag. It had the least personal items in it.
"I can't say I agree with it, but to each their own." He said, pulling out his laptop and charger.
"Do you have the same type of collection yet for the other side or feel similar to Rodney in entertaining human's depictions of demons?"

"Ugly, beautiful, neither matter." he said, though some part of him felt that it wasn't entirely his opinion on the matter. He was sure he had to have lost something a long time ago that was important to beauty, but he couldn't ascertain anything more solid than that. "What do you find attractive then though?"
He moved to sprawl on the bed, looking at the laptop.
"Why would I want to collect demons?" he said. "I'm not a pride demon."

"Humor. Aesthetics. A desire to pass time with a hobby centered around a theme. Just making conversation." He admitted, taking out a phone charger and a slender, locked case that he set on a dresser counter. He didn't want to start plugging anything in until he was sure Rodney would approve of the choice of being in this particular room.
"Determination, direction, and dedication are a few things I find attractive." He debated unloading his suitcase though.
"Are you sure he would be okay with me unpacking in this room?"

"None of those things are really for me." he said. "Especially not humour, I don't think I understand humour at all. Humans laugh at some unexpected things but mysteriously not all of them. No. I like angels. I like the things I am not." And it was true, despite everything, even despite a strange sense of self assurance that he wanted nothing to do with himself. Even his forgotten past didn't seem all that important to him to discover yet he wanted to know everything there was to know about Melvin and Rodney's history.
He grinned at Melvin. "Oh I think I have plenty of those three. Determination especially, once I latch on I never ever let go."
Looking around the room from his place on the bed he nodded. "I'm sure it's not a problem at all. You should feel how nice this bed is."
