Do you mean the hook separated the yarn and hook while you were crocheting?

Hm. Well, does the hook you use have a pointy (kind of sharp) head to it, or a smooth, more rounded one - sometimes it's that shape that causes yarn to split like that.
Also, your yarn should fit easily under the nib of your hook. It should slide easily under your hook without snagging or bunching.
