Emotionless little p***k
Averill let himself be melted there for a little while longer.
Those kind of thoughts were not helpful, and it was probably a culture and personality thing, rather than Muna actually not caring about things.

When he heard about the house organizing a trip he raised an eyebrow.
He also wearily raised his head from the textbook- A change of topic was perfectly fine with him.
"Uh, I hadn't heard about it, actually." He stated bluntly, surprised. Not that he'd been talking to many of his housemates lately, but he would have thought it would come up in conversation. Even if not directly to him, maybe just in conversation nearby. Maybe I'm still in the doghouse for not attending the scavenger hunt? Or maybe I've just been too busy to notice... He frowned a little, looking back down at his textbook and taking some notes.

"When is it, do you know? And to where?" His words seemed to indicate he was interested, but body language did not.

Muna tugged out a notebook from his satchel, planning on reviewing his channeling notes. It had been the class he had been paying the most of his attention on. He actually found it pretty interesting, not to mention he kind of needed it if he wasn't going to get a replacement wand.

It was a recent notice, so I'm not surprised. He signed. He had turned to face his notebook now, not particularly intrigued by the trip considering he couldn't even cast a goddamn lumos. He was rather upset that he wouldnt be able to join but figured it was probably for the best. It's on friday. The note mentioned ruins, but I don't know. You'll probably understand it better if you see it for yourself.

With that he got to reviewing his notes, hoping they would offer some secrets to the universe on using an object instead of a wand. Muna didn't exactly have money to buy a new one, not including the debts he was currently paying off to the Merchant. Hopefully channeling was one of those things you could just get done with hard work.

Averill nodded, closed his notepad, and dropped his stationary back into his bag. He was pretty much all packed up, apart from one book.
For all that Muna knew, he'd been studying for ages anyway.
"I'll go check it out." He hitched his bag over his shoulder and pushed his charms textbook towards the whitehaired boy.

"Good luck catching up with charms and learning channelling at the same time, man." He meant it sincerely, and felt pretty sorry for his classmate. Textbooks were what he found helpful, so hopefully Muna would be able to read some and understand lumos a little better, too.

He gave a salute of goodbye and headed out the door.

Averills footsteps suddenly seemed overly loud, and his head began to ring.
"Uuuuugh.... That muffling spell removal..." He groaned, wincing.

Averill shuffled into the room, looked around for the largest free table, and sat himself down. It didn't seem so odd, the muffling spell- when he was alone, anyway.
I'm totally a genius! In here, Scarlett won't be so affronted by Peles loud voice, because it will be impossible to make too much disturbing noise! He congratulated himself, opening the bag and taking out a pad of paper and paints. Unless its possible to break the muffling charm-- A little echo in the back of his mind commented, and he shooed it away. Psh, I'm sure its a strong spell and it can't be broken by sheer noise anyway, just magic.
He pursed his lips, the thoughts continuing on despite his attempt to dismiss them, ...And Pele probably doesn't know that kind of magic, even though she's destructive... His resolution began to waver the more he thought about it.
"Nah, its not possible." He mumbled to himself, and went back to his preparing to realize he hadn't bought any paintbrushes. "Oh. s**t. Oh well. Maybe Scarlett has some... or maybe we can use like, our hands or something."

Scarlett plodded in, with some of her preferred paints. She didn't really want to be rude to Averill, but the paints he'd picked were really terrible quality. She wasn't really sure how to teach Averill and Pele to paint, since she'd never had to teach anyone, but she brought along some of her figure books along with a few different types of brushes. She was nothing if not thorough.

Scarlett spotted Averill sitting at one of the tables and she headed over. It was a little bit nerve wracking to be alone with someone she didn't know very well, but if she had managed to do it before then she could do it now. She didn't even trip on the way over, for once. Scarlett set her supplies down on the table and waved to Averill. She glanced at the door, wondering if Pele was actually going to show up.

Averill grinned and waved when Scarlett walked in, despite the girls lack of reciprocal smile. She did wave though! Maybe she's just very serious. Averill mused to himself. It had been offputting at first, but there were a bunch of uncles and aunts he had whose beards were so bushy he could never tell if they were smiling either, so he wagered facial expressions didn't need to be such a big deal.

Pele hadn't turned up yet, but time was flexible. Plus it was perhaps less of a hazard to not have her around at first... But it sure would help to break the ice... He thought to himself, shifting in his seat as Scarlett put her supplies on the table.

"Oh! You've brought paintbrushes! I'm so glad!" He exclaimed, quietly.
"I didn't think to buy any- do you think we could borrow some?" He asked for the currently absent Pele as well.
"I mean, we could use our fingers, but that would get kinda messy and I don't think the mend spell actually cleans things and theres no tap in here so--" He coughed "So, it probably wouldn't be the best idea."

Ah, the study hall. Pele disliked the place for a number of personal reasons.

The second year had considered bailing. She kept to herself primarily because she was more than aware that other people found her annoying and slightly uncomfortable to be around, and while Pele didn't particularly care about such things the idea of watching Averill stumble around socializing sounded amusing. Also, it would be a nice change of pace to have somebody be ok with having her around for once.

She still came late, though. God, she hated the study hall. It made her so very uncomfortable.

"HI, EVERYONE!" Pele shouted, voice significantly lowered by the muffling charm. The 'slam' of the door resounded in a mere dull thud, and Pele had to force herself to keep smiling. It was an action she was used to so there appeared to be no strain on her face, and she strode in humming a tune underneath her breath.

Pele plopped down at the table, leaning in to see what Scarlett had brought.
"Sorry for being late, I wasn't really sure what time I was supposed to be here at! Are those figure books, Carmi--Scarlett?"

Averills face broke into a sincere smile when Pele entered the room, and after he saw the door slam and only heard a muffle, he internally felt validated in choosing the one room in the school where the noise wouldn't matter.
"Hi PELE!" He shouted in reply, but it only carried across the room as if at normal speaking volume.

He leaned in when Pele pointed out the books.
"Oh! Figure books?" He sat back and breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank Rangi'! I thought it was some kind of strange porn, naked people with very little features or something, and I was trying to ignore it in case Scarlett was embarrassed!" He shook his head at himself, awkward blush turning his cheeks red-brown. Oh... maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud He inwardly wondered why he vocalized his dumb thoughts.
"Er, so, what do you do with a figure-book?"

If Scarlett could raise her eyebrows, she would have. Finger painting? She supposed it was kind of logical, but... that was the sort of stuff she did in kindergarten. Averill sure was a strange guy. It was a good thing she brought paintbrushes, otherwise they would be sort of stuck. She quickly went through her brushes, found a pretty basic one, and slid it towards Averill.

Pele's arrival was significantly quieter than usual, and Scarlett held up the smiley face picture when she entered. She nodded at the figure book question and turned to stare at Averill. She shook her head and opened the books to flip through. There were pages with anatomy tips, a chapter covering color theory, and several pages of various poses. Scarlett liked to use it, though she preferred landscapes these days. Then she glanced at the cruddy paints Averill had bought and opened her sketchbook. She drew a quick doodle and showed it to Averill: a picture of a trashcan. Then she pointed to the paints. I hope that makes my point clear, I'm not very comfortable with these two yet...

Averill watched the paintbrush roll towards him and put it neatly beside his piece of paper. He didn't inspect it or anything- I mean, what would he be inspecting it for? He didn't know what made a good or bad paintbrush.

His green eyes peered at the book while Scarlett flipped through it. Of course these kind of things were in libraries, but in his life Averill never went to the arts section. Cooking, sometimes, which was nearby. Even flower arranging or botany books were nearby, but he'd never gone into the drawing and art areas.

The picture of the trashcan, and the motion towards the paints he'd brought made Averill raise an eyebrow.
"Oh, no, they're still full! We don't have to throw them out yet!" He assured her, then tilted his head "Or, er, you probably didn't mean that. Um...you want me to try painting a trashcan first?" He bit his lip "Or you want us to actually paint the trashcan? Cos like, I suppose it is a pretty boring grey, and this room could use some colourful additions but, I'm not sure if we're allowed to do that!" He was stumped.

Pele had to stop herself from snickering at Averill's embarrassment. She was a little surprised at his reaction; for all the books he read, she would have thought he would have stumbled upon a figure drawing book or two. Then again, he did say he hadn't been the creative type.

Pele giggled a bit at the picture of the trash can Scarlett presented. For someone who didn't even speak, the girl was brutally honest.
"You don't like the paints Averill got, Scarlett?" That was what Pele was pretty sure Scarlett was trying to say, at least. Averill at least seemed rather distressed over it. Well, speaking with images seemed to be very confusing.

Scarlett internally groaned. Averill was a bit thick, wasn't he? She didn't want to paint the trashcan, the trashcan was very boring and uninteresting. She was just on the verge of opening her mouth when Pele managed to clarify. Scarlett immediately resolved to talk through Pele from that moment forward, because Averill simply seemed to have a habit of overcomplicating things. She nodded at Pele and took out a few of her own paints.

She hadn't brought a lot, only the primary colors, some black, and some white. Scarlett glanced around for a few things to bring together for a simple still life. She eventually settled on leaning a sharp quill pen on a couple unlit candles, but it needed something underneath to complete it... Scarlett looked around, then picked up her sketchbook, made a doodle, and held it out to Pele: a little chibi of her head, with an arrow pointing to her hair clip.

Wow, so she had been right? Interpreting Scarlett was much easier than Pele had thought. Then again, as an aspiring scientist one had to be good at interpreting things! ...Well, that was the dream, anyways.

Pele took the liberty of grabbing the figure drawing book, flipping to the chapter on color theory. She wasn't really interested on drawing any definite forms; that would take a lot more practice than just memorizing color theory and painting something straight onto the paper. Theories were faster to pick up than anything else.

The second year's attention was caught to Scarlett's notepad, and she grinned at the image. Reaching up to her hair, Pele removed the pinwheel hairpin. She dragged her hand away, the strands held in place with the pin falling back into their regular position. She offered it to Scarlett, taking notice of the odd combination of items the girl had set up.

"You wanna borrow this, right? You've got greeeat taste, Scarlett!"

Well, that was probably because Pele herself tended to favor black as a major part of her wardrobe, but whatever.

Averill puffed out his cheeks in mock-anger. Sortof.
Actually it was kinda mean that Scarlett would want to trash all of his paints.
They weren't free!
"Well....just because they're not the best doesn't mean I'm going to throw them out..." He mumbled defensively, and pushed them off the edge of the table, back into his backpack.

"Why is she building that?" Averill asked, watching Scarlett put a random bunch of things together.
Pele seemed to understand what was going on, at least.
Maybe this is some kind of weird art ritual? But rituals normally have lit candles.. He mused to himself.
So she's offered up her pen, and taken Peles hairclip..
"Oh, should I put something in the middle too?" He smiled, digging in his pockets for something colourful. The ritual scene so far seemed very dull, and he wanted to brighten it up a bit.
Withdrawing his hand from his pocket, he peered at the contents he'd dredged up. A bit of dirt, a caramel coloured pebble, that fossil of a nothofagus plant leaf he'd bought in town earlier, two coins, and torn pieces of paper with little note-to-self things written on them. None of these are colourful enough at all....Its a nice fossil though... Man, if it had been opalized it would be perfect...stupid carbonates. He poked at it, then stuffed it all back into his pocket.
"Well, I got nothin'."
