Shanta's reaction reminded him a little about Averill's; Muna was beginning to wonder if the bunny thing had been a joke he had accidentally taken too seriously. He was half tempted to reassure Shanta that she didn't have to lie -- he was pretty sure he looked goddamn ridiculous -- but decided to take the compliment so Bijan would have something to say to stop him from cursing his friend out. Thank you. Uh. What exactly would explode at a party

"It's goddamn ridiculous," Bijan snapped as soon as he finished translating. "You can't just put a pair of wings on your back and call yourself a fairy. Do you have any tact or what? God, I bet you were just waiting for this reaction from me too, you little--"

The departure of the teachers caught Muna's attention, and his ears twitched at the sound of the owls going through the hall. He looked up in curiosity, staring at the birds before turning back to Shanta.
Does that, uh, happen every year too?

Once Vivian was out of the Great Hall, she turned the corner and kept walking until she felt safely out of the professor's range. She waited a few minutes for them to get into place and grinned to herself. He had been right all along, Carrmin had contacted the Headmaster and things were going swimmingly. All she had to do was create an opportunity, and in a moment she was going to do just that. If things went well, the long-term effects wouldn't matter too much anyway.

Vivian took a deep breath and tugged off her gloves. This wouldn't work with them on after all. She focused her magic and whispered the chant, just like they told her and showed her to do. Her fingertips began to glow black, and then they began to ache, but Vivian could feel the power sweeping through her body. She had to be quick. Screwing her eyes shut, Vivian felt for the professor's presences. There they were, down in the Catacombs just as expected. Vivian felt around and soon found the doors, each professor's personal door that led into the tunnels underground, nearby. She locked onto them, and forced them shut, locked, and stuck.

As soon as the deed was done, Vivian let go and nearly collapsed. That was hard. But she had done it. She quickly pulled her gloves on; her fingertips would give her away in an instant. She was out of breath, but she needed to recover and join the party again before they arrived.

Vivian allowed herself to grin. It was time.

In the Great Hall, now devoid of professors, all was quiet and ordinary for a few minutes.

Then, a loud bang sounded, loud enough to cut through the chatter of the party. If the students waited, the professors would not return. In fact, they could not return, now that their point of entry was sealed off.

To the younger students, it could have been a clap of thunder from the illusions. It could have just been something falling over in the hall. But the older students, they should know better. A sound like that, after the professors were summoned away?

A sound like that spells trouble.

The idle smile on Ari's face quickly wiped itself away. Her instincts were flaring up, and she knew better than to ignore them. The fourth year scanned the premises, taking off the button charms she had placed over her eyes so her vision would be less obstructed.

Ariadne's eyes landed immediatly on Naomi, and she took a half step in the girl's direction before she realized who Naomi was keeping company with. Eyes narrowing at the sight of Sylvia, Ariadne spun back on her heel. Like hell she was going over there with the other girl around, serious situation or not.

                      Still, something did seem off.
"Oh no," The Lucian began, voice deliberately loud. The 'clack' of her heels resonated as she navigated through the Great Hall, voice flat and face looking fairly bored. Everyone knew s**t happened during Merlin events -- this wasn't exactly anything new.

"I wonder what just happened. " She continued. "This is a totally unexpected turn of events."

When she found out who did this, Ari was going to beat their face in. She had a schedule to go through, and 'abducted in the Great Hall' was not part of it.

Pharoh Averill Hammershod (the mummy)

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Averill almost bumped into the teachers, and Vivian as he headed to the great hall (they HAD gone out as he went in, after all) but she was just slightly around the corner so he didn't actually spot his blonde-haired friend.
Averill shivered a little as he walked towards the hall. It really felt like the air was dark and gloomy, heavy with greasy grimy blackness.
It's probably just an effect the teachers put on, right? He shivered and felt the hair on the back of his neck rise, and his sideburns even prickled. I've been in some deep dark, dank caves. I've been in scarier situations! Get yourself together Averill! You're just walking through the school hallways! He told himself, but still shouldn't shake the feeling that something was just....wrong
Being strongly Sol aspect might have had something to do with his wobbly feeling. The atmosphere was anything but lightness and order.

He walked into the great hall, pouring himself some punch, and nearly spilled it all over himself when an almighty CLAP rung out across the school.
"Wah!" He yelped, fumbled with his cup, and dropped it into the punch bowl. He looked at it sadly for a moment, contemplating whether to fish it out or not.
He looked around the room, hoping nobody saw him startle so badly, and spotted Adriane. She wasn't exactly being the most reassuring senior. Though, to be fair, her deadpan voice didn't incite much more panic than the highly unorthodox situation already instilled in the dwarf-boy.

"Um, Miss, what do you think that was?" He asked her, trying to stop his voice from being wobbly. He was fairly good at it, and the facepaint probably masked the fact he was a bit pale at the moment.

The moment the professors left, Naomi's alarm bells went off. Professors didn't just leave in the middle of an event, unless it was important. Judging by the owls, they had been given orders by the Headmaster for some reason or another, but what was so important that they all had to leave? Seeing Vivian walk out of the room wasn't very reassuring. Naomi almost went after her. Something smelled off. Literally, something smelled off. There was a faint odor hanging in the air that... she couldn't place it, but it smelled... wrong. "Whatever we're waiting for, I have a feeling it won't be good," she murmured.

When the loud BANG suddenly sounded, Naomi knew immediately something was very, very wrong. And not just Academy of Merlin wrong, really, truly, seriously wrong. Her hand went straight to the costume's baggy pocket, pulling out her wand. (If there was one thing she liked about the costume, it was that it had pockets. Big ones.) She didn't want to jump to conclusions just yet, she didn't want to cause unnecessary panic because that'd just be an inconvenience. Instead, she turned and scanned the Great Hall. There was Averill, in his stupid mummy costume; Ari, who was a distance away; Mutie, End, and Shanty in a clump; Gage, wandering by the stupid cauldron table; and Sylvia, next to her.

"I'm afraid our little rune discussion will have to wait, Sylvia," Naomi said curtly, watching the main doors of the Great Hall. "I think you'll agree, this is a bit more important." None of the professors had returned yet, which was odd. When it came to in-campus situations, the professors normally ensured student safety instead of leaving them to their own devices as usual. This was the first sign something was stranger than usual. The second, the feeling of there being something wrong in the air. This things always come in threes, Naomi chided herself. Where was the third sign?

She wasn't sure she wanted to find out.

End gave a chuckle at Shanta's complement of his 'costume'. "It was pretty low effort but I guess I just generally fit in to this time of year anyway, right?" He watched Shanta fly around and upside down, demonstrating what her own costume could do. "It's really great that you found something that works for you, Shanta. Actually... it looks quite fun flying around with wings."

And then Muna arrived. End shared Shanta's wording dilemma. He couldn't find a word that would accurately describe what he thought of Muna's outfit while still not offending Muna, like a word like 'cute' would. Shanta seemed to find a good enough word though. End nodded in agreement with Shanta's comment. "Yeah, you look great, Muna." In relation to Muna's comment on his lack of costume he replied: "Well, uh, I don't exactly have any money to get a new outfit and my usual place to get things-" a pile of clothes left from however many previous years in the Janus boys' dorms "-didn't have any Halloween costumes. It's fine, though, right?"

Shanta's mention of last year's incident brought back memories. "Oh, yeah, last year..." The owls started flying in. "It was a little dangerous..." Runesteam announced his departure. "I'm actually surprised we still have a hall at all after that..." Teachers started rushing out. "But the teachers were there, they made sure nothing went too wrong..." End glanced around the room. All the teachers had already made their way out of the hall. "U-Um... This is new..."

                                  ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
                                  post-Vivian's spell
                                  ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Bam. Ok, things were definitely new this year. As much as End wanted to think that the two things- the teachers leaving and the loud banging -were unrelated but he couldn't shake the feeling that they were all too connected. He scanned the room, seeing people standing still, wondering where the noise had come from. There wasn't so much widespread panic. They were at Merlin during an event, it wasn't like they weren't expecting something to happen. Only one person was noticeably startled at all. End didn't know the guy dressed as a mummy but he guessed he was a first year. If anyone wasn't expecting anything, it'd be the first years.

"Ah... what do you think this is about?" he questioned as he continued looking around, hoping to spot something that could give him a clue what was going on. He really hoped that it was a prank by the teachers or something, he hoped that it was nothing dangerous, he didn't want anyone getting hurt.

Ari's eyes flew over to Averill, and for a second she looked mildly annoyed before a more friendly expression overtook her face. She pulled out a pair of tubes from one of the pockets on her dress, uncapping both. One of them had a small blade inside of it; she put that one back.

The other one was her favorite channeler, naturally.
"Aww Averill, you really can just call me Ari like everyone else," The Lucian cooed, voice soothing as she took a moment to reapply her lipstick. Ari pressed her lips together, considering the slightly anxious looking mummy in front of her.

"Weeeeeell something always happens at school events here, so that would be the first thing I would tell you," She continued. "But it seems this time seems a little special. We'll just have to wait and see how special it is."

Ari smacked her lips together to ensure that her lipstick-application was in perfect order before giving Averill a rather reassuring smile. "I'm not mean enough to put any false promises in your head, but us upperclassmen will try our damndest keep you little firsties safe and sound, okay?"

Pharoh Averill Hammershod (the mummy)

Averill's eyes nervously scanned the room when Aridane faced him, and he caught a glimpse of Naomi, who looked a little alert and suspicious of her surroundings. He was a little reassured that his house rep was around.

Turning back to the girl at hand, he took a half-step backwards when he glimpsed her taking out a knife. That, combined with the makeup, combined with the rumours, was rather intimidating.
"Yes Miss Ari!" He saluted at her, calling her by the name she requested. He listened keenly to her advice, nodding. It made sense that things happened at school events- getting a bunch of magical students together in the one place to celebrate would probably encourage more pranks than usual.

When she said she would protect him, she tilted his head down at her. He was nearly four inches taller than the girl, who was 3 years his senior. He pursed his lips and frowned a little, because by any kind of assessment other than magic, he wouldn't figure she was capable of protecting people. Herself, probably- smaller body area meant there was less to try to protect, but not others. This, plus the fact that she was a Lucian, and they weren't known for charitable acts, didn't make him feel very safe.
"Um. Thanks." He politely smiled a little, then shuffled over towards Sylvia. She may have been a space cake, but she at least looked like a fighter.

End's compliment reassured him a little; End hadn't been there when Averill had been suggesting costumes, and End's 'great' must have been his version of 'you look okay'. You still fit right in even without an outfit, don't worry

It was a little amusing to hear End try to talk as the events around them occurred. The 'BANG!' had Muna's ears twitching, and he could feel a prickling feeling at the base of them that told of something bad. He felt a little wary, but mostly confused.

Bijan, on the other hand, seemed to be sniffing the air. His wings seemed to have stiffened up a little as they beat together.
"I feel like I've flown straight into the den of some fairy-eating predator." The fairy grumbled, flying a little closer to Muna's head.

Muna tilted his head at End's reaction. He had thought the bang was due to a coming thunderstorm or something.
I thought you two said stuff like this always happens...?

Shanta frowned. "The professors leaving isn't normal at all, actually. I wonder if something's going on?" Of course something was going on, something always happened at these events. "I mean, um, something super out of the ordinary of course! We shouldn't worry though, if all the professors are leaving that means that they're probably going to go take care of whatever it is so we can continue with our party." She smiled, but it was obvious she didn't believe what she was saying either. But really, how bad could it be? There were plenty of upperclassman here, and Shanta was pretty confident that the teachers could handle whatever was handed to them.

                    BANG.

The noise startled Shanta so badly she lost her balance and flipped upside-down. She managed to right herself pretty fast, though. That was certainly odd, but the noise was... oddly familiar somehow. That was another sign that something was up, though; the professors leaving, now this? Shanta wondered if this was some sort of surprise event to spook the students, but it wouldn't work on the older students and scare the crap out of the younger ones. So what was going on? She looked to End. "I think... something is wrong," she said finally. "We should ask the professors what that was when they come back."

Two minutes passed. Then five. The butterflies in Shanta's stomach became grasshoppers, ricocheting around her belly like mad. The gears in Shanta's head started turning, and she glanced around. There were only a few people that were visibly nervous, and she was pretty sure she'd be included with them. "Hey, Muna, End, what do you think that noise was? It didn't sound like it came from the windows. Do you think it's related to the professors leaving?" she asked, flitting around restlessly. Something weird was going on, and Shanta really didn't like it.

A few minutes after the loud bang, Vivian started making her way back to the Great Hall. She paused in the main hallway though, just for a moment, and checked to make sure the entrance to the Catacombs wasn't barred in any way. She smiled, and then stepped back into the Great Hall.

Inside, the students were all looking somewhat nervous, chatting in groups. Vivian saw Shanta in her pretty fairy costume talking with End and Muna, who looked really cute, Naomi and Sylvia, with Averill coming up behind the latter, and Ariande standing by herself. They all seemed confused, but the fourth years looked more calm and collected than the rest. Vivian wondered if any of them had been anticipating this. Well, it didn't matter. It wasn't like they could do much about anything at this point.

Vivian decided to walk over nearby Muna and the others. They seemed a lot safer than the older students. She hoped her absence hadn't been noticed, and walked over, stopping just behind Muna. "Hi you guys! That noise was really strange, huh? Where did all the professors go?"

Sylvia reached for her wand at the same time Naomi did -- she had shoved it into one of her Mary Janes, which was infinitely less comfortable than her usual choice of boots but just as effective -- already slightly jumpy nerves making her shoulders jerk a little at the violent sound.

It was only all too easy to assume that the disappearance of the professors had been intentional. Sylvia twirled her wand in between her fingers, smile growing on her face at Naomi's words.
"What an absolute shame, I could really tell we were gettin' somewhere," The fourth year drawled sarcastically.

From all outward appearances, Sylvia appeared to be one of the more composed students. Honestly, she couldn't say she was more scared than anxious to have whatever was going on happen already. It was an opportunity to gather information, and at this point Sylvia was taking note on any little thing on the events that were going around on school. It was easy to tell that the rest of the students were beginning to get anxious over the lack of the teachers; at this point Sylvia was beginning to think that even for appearances it was best to look calm.

Her eyes roamed over the Great Hall, taking stock of everyone; her eyes paused on Vivian for a second longer than the rest. Apprehension rose in the fourth year -- had the tomas student always been there? Vivian had 'suspicious' practically plastered all over her. Sylvia glanced once at Naomi, trusting the third year to keep an eye on the girl.

Sylvia glanced over at Averill as he shuffled closer, and she gave the boy a grin. Ari didn't look too perturbed about having the first year abandon her -- as Averill left her, she simply shrugged and cracked her neck. The Lucian looked fairly bored with the whole situation, though from the way she cracked her knuckles loudly Sylvia had an inkling the girl was preparing for something as well.

"How disappointin' it's gotta be to have your first school event turn into this, eh Averill? Hoped you stuffed as much candy in your face when you got the chance." The fourth year joked. She looked relaxed, but the speed her wand was twirling in between her fingers slightly increased.

Lᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ

The entrance to the Catacombs behind the main staircase creaked open. It wasn't visible from the Great Hall, but it opened nonetheless. Five people stepped out; the fifth closed the door behind them. Glancing around, the five tried to get their bearings with hushed whispers. Finally, the blond man pointed at the staircase. To climb up it, they'd have to go past the Great Hall, but that wouldn't be a problem. At this point, who cared if the students noticed something was up? None of them could hold a candle to the five.

Just in case, the members of the unit kept their channelers at the ready. The brown-haired man cast Fleet Feet. It wasn't strong, just enough to get them past the double doors unnoticed. Then, they ran. To those in the Great Hall, only a blur of red flashed past the door. The spell wore off after a few seconds. The five caught their breath, and then began to climb the stairs. Only one question remained.

Where was the Headmaster's Tower?

Naomi hardly registered Averill coming up to them; she was too busy focusing on Vivian, who had appeared from nowhere. Naomi certainly didn't remember her being in the room five minutes ago. Had she overlooked her? Definitely not. Something was off about her too, the way she looked... Naomi had certainly remembered her hair being more gold and less whitish. What had sapped all that lovely color? If she was trying to hide it, she was doing a shitty job. It stood out against her red dress--

Red flashed against Naomi's vision for a split second, in the direction of the main hall. At the same time, that wrong feeling crept up her spine again. She stood still for a moment, wondering if she'd imagined it. No... that was stupid in this situation. Practically the biggest horror movie trope ever. Naomi trusted her instinct, drew her wand, and ran out into the main hall just in time to see five red-clothed people run up the stairs. She froze. Only five...? That's not right. How did they--

Suddenly, the Weekly Parchments she'd been reading started to make sense, and the pieces started to fall in place. "Hey!" she shouted, first at the group on the stairs, then she gave up and ran back into the Great Hall. "HEY!" she yelled again, louder this time. "We've got trouble, and I don't think we can count on the professors to bail us out!" Without stopping, she continued, "The Blood Pact unit we've been hearing about? They're here, and I suspect they're going after the Headmaster. We need to get there before they do and stall. I think they left one unit member down here, too, so we all need to go to prevent any casualties. Understood?"
