Perstephone had awoken some time in the earliest hours of the morning, bathed in a cold sweat and trying to forget the horrible nightmare she'd had of the day that had passed only a few hours prior. Putting a shaky hand to her forehead she looked around, confused for a moment until she realized that the nightmare hadn't been a nightmare at all. She was still sleeping on the couch in a house that belonged to a bloodsucking death machine, although now (she suddenly realized) she was laying beneath a soft gray blanket... that positively reeked of Kai. For some reason, however, she found herself unable to care less about the scent, her mind focused solely on the fact that she was sleeping in a dress... a stained, stinking dress, no doubt. Sliding her bare feet out from under the covers, Steffi noted a slight headache nowhere near as severe as it should've been. Pushing aside the mild throbbing on her cheek, she ventured out into the dark hall, her nighttime vision activating automatically as she headed for her suitcases. She knew immediately that Kai had been through her things, for they smelled of him ever so slightly, and Steffi knew that none of her clothes should have done so. Opening the largest with a sharp tug, she ransacked her own bag, realizing in horror that all of her preciously stocked alcohol had disappeared. Bolting for the kitchen with ninja-like stealth, she lurched to a halt in front of the sink, where she could still faintly discern the smell of brandy despite Kai's attempts to wash it away. "God damn son of a b*tch..." she cursed, flipping her hair out of her face and walking sulkily back to the hallway, where she took both of her suitcases and carried them easily to the living room. Once there, she selected a grossly over-sized white sweater and pulled off her dress, not really caring if someone saw her or not as she slid her change of clothes over her head. Still without pants, Steffi decided that donning an entirely new outfit when she hadn't so much as taken a decent shower would've been wasteful in any sense. So instead, she reached into a hidden pocket that Kai thankfully hadn't gotten to and pulled out a pack of smokes, flipping out a cigarette and a lighter and venturing out onto the balcony to indulge in her -- so far -- secret habit. As she smoked, she thought about what her plan would be. Run? No, Gilda would find her in a heartbeat, and then she would be sent to the Netherworld. Apologize to Kai? No, that would've been much too noble, and Steffi definitely wasn't of that ilk. Sighing, she realized that at three in the morning, she was simply too tired to think clearly, and so she flicked the last of the ashes onto the gravelly driveway, dumped the butt into the nearest trash bin, and lay back down onto the couch. Staring up at the white ceiling, she wondered why Kai would have ever agreed to this. Steffi had needed a leash, and he had been given the opportunity to hold one. Her father had told her that Kai was too proud, too confidant... that he needed to be taught a lesson about humility, and shown that he needed to take responsibility for his arrogance... was Steffi to teach him that lesson by being an out of control hooligan, and embarrassment to him? Steffi didn't like to think of herself that way, but it had been her mantra to be outspoken since she'd been a pup... and that wasn't about to change, she knew. And she knew Kai knew, too. Eventually, the girl fell asleep, only to be woken again by the sound of footsteps lingering outside of the living room. It was Kai, Steffi knew, but rather than greet him, she waited until she was out of sight to get up and head in the direction of the bathroom, which was at the other end of the hall, she had discovered. Once inside, she frowned at her own disheveled appearance in the mirror; the bags under her eyes, her unkempt hair, her smudged makeup... said things didn't make for a very attractive Steffi. Using the bag of toiletries she'd grabbed from her suitcase, Steffi did the best she could with what she had, before finally undressing and stepping into the sleek, modern shower. She felt almost uncomfortable in the presence of so many different settings, knobs, and dials, but she was able to turn on the water without much effort, and soon was showering away the horrible memory of the previous day. Daily showers with Perstephone were a matter of a few minutes, considering she'd been raised by wolves who bathed no more than twice a month to preserve their strong, distinct scent. But as much as they teased her for it, Steffi had always maintained a high standard of personal hygiene, and hence had mastered the art of showering when no one was looking. Running her fingers through her long, flaxen tresses, she combed out the worst of the knots with her fingers before following up with her hairbrush. After she'd thoroughly scrubbed every inch of her smooth, white skin, she stepped out, satisfied that she'd done her best to wash out any excess vampiric scent she could. Her natural body scent was still strong, of course... but at least she smelled like lavender now, too. Toweling herself off, she shook out her hair in the true nature of a dog, and ruffled it a little through a hand towel before taking a brush to it again. It hung down her back in glossy, wet strands as her sensitive nose inhaled the scent of eggs, ham, cheese, and... spinach? Orange juice as well. It seemed as though Kai had gotten the idea to make breakfast for her... Steffi could only hope it wasn't poisoned. Pulling on a fresh black underwear set, she drew on her sweater once more before stepping barefooted out into the hallway. She didn't quite feel like putting on pants, not that she needed to; she was in her own house, after all, as loathe as she was to say it... Padding gracefully past the living room, she rested her ivory brush next to her stilettos and lingered at the doorway of the kitchen, leaning against the wooden frame of the entrance and looking with suspicion upon the plate of eggs that sat there, as well as the man -- Vampire, she corrected -- that had made them. The shower had done her well, no doubt; her skin was aglow with warmth and her hair had regained its usual softness as it continued to dry, but her face was desecrated with an angry sort of unhappiness as she crossed her arms and sashayed over to the breakfast niche. She sat without a word, looking at Kai's mug and wrinkling her nose, but refraining from any commentary as she picked up her fork and began to stab listlessly at her food. Finally, after she could take no more silence, she cast a wary glance in his direction. "... if you're gonna lecture me, go ahead," she said quietly, returning her gaze to her food. Her words were laced with bitterness and resentment, and in her eyes it was clear that she'd heard it all before. Nothing Kai could say would make good of what she'd done, not that she cared. Her family had seen it all before, had gotten used to it. There was a reason Fex had been so quick and smooth to react; this obviously wasn't the first time Steffi's antics had gone out of control, and there had been consequences. Steffi knew that this was the reason her father hadn't kept her around to breed. She was trouble, they thought, and her children would be trouble as well. It was usually that way, Steffi knew, with she-wolves. Maybe that's why they were so rare...

Leaning against the kitchen counter when he heard footsteps approaching Kai listened, obviously it was Perstephone since no one else was in the house right now, he would know if there were after all. Still, he sipped his blood in silence, not commenting or speaking. Simply watching quietly through his peripheral view. It seemed Perstephone had taken a shower, her skin and hair looking much cleaner for it.... though her outfit left a lot to be desired Kai made no comment on it. She was at least looking at the food as if indulging the possibility she might eat it and not ranting at him.... not yet at least, though he was sure it was to come. Still, Kai waited until Perstephone broke the silence with her quietly spoken permission to lecture her... lecturing would do no good, he had realised that at some point this morning, his thoughts much clearer after a little distance and some rest. Of course, that didn't mean she could simply be allowed to get away with her behaviour either.... At first Kai said nothing, simply drank from his mug and licked his lips before allowing his red eyes to drift to look directly at Perstephone. "I trust you slept well Perstephone?" She didn't exactly appear to have, though he suspected the sofa was far from comfortable. "You shall sleep in..." He hesitated for a moment but swiftly regained his pace. "our bed this evening, I am sure that will provide a much more restful sleep." He frowned slightly, hiding it behind his mug and blood as he took another sip. Part of Kai was dreading claiming Perstephone, at marking her with his bite for all to see.... for some reason that almost seemed to make it more... binding. After all, he could never take his bite back! The venom of a vampire always scarred a werewolf's flesh after all. "As for last night...." He put his mug down and straightened up. His eyes narrowing ever so slightly as he recalled the humiliation that was his wedding night. "....from your wording I am sure you are more than aware of how inappropriate and embarrassing your actions were. Not only to yourself, or to me... but to your pack and your family." He shook his head slightly as if he was unable to figure something out. "All I ask is that you show a little respect in yourself." With that he picked up his mug again, downed the contents, missing a single dribble of blood that he used his finger to clear up and push into mouth... this was why he hated mugs, had hated something similar when he had been a human soldier and having soup for supper too.... messy things. "If you excuse me, I have things I must attend to for a while. Oh..." He paused at the door and looked over his shoulder with an amused smirk. "...it's not poisoned. If you don't believe me..." He pointed to the new fridge. "Feel free to help yourself to more. Just clean up after yourself." With that he left to the upstairs master suite, having a quick shower, though he washed his hair fully considering how much the scent of wolf seemed to cling to the stuff. Oh to have been changed with short hair...! Too late now. Much too late. Done he dried off and slipped into fresh underwear, black slacks and a crisp white shirt that he left the top two buttons open on. Dressed he went back down stairs to the computer room, it was huge, a sofa of black and the largest television he had been able to buy along with every console imaginable and game of his fancy. It wasn't that he really liked this stuff, it was simply something to do when he had nothing else to do in the sunlight hours. Sitting at the computer in the corner he turned it and and instantly set up a conference call with his maker. It was because of him that Kai had been nominated for this, and it was also because of him that Kai would never have refused.... knowing that had he not already claimed a bride many years before he would have been the one in Kai's place... at least he hoped that was the case. "Leigo." He said with a smile, bowing his head in respect to the other. "I received the documentation you sent over, the company shall be placed into your control by the end of the week. The money has already been transferred, and I am pleased to say it went off without a hitch." "Business as usual?" The guy said, his amusement clear, even as Kai heard the giggle of the mans wife. What would it be like to have such a close bond with your mate? It was pointless thinking about it, Kai could never achieve that with Perstephone! She was an uncultured dog after all. "I thought you would at least be spending time with your new wife?" Laughter. "You know, getting to know each other more intimately.... or have you wore the b***h out already?" Kai scowled at the screen, he had never been one to 'kiss and tell', not that there was anything to tell right now, but he certainly had no intention of starting either way. "I am sorry to disappoint you Leigo...." He went to continue his previous conversation but found himself swiftly interrupted, the seriousness in the guys voice catching his attention. "Don't wait too long Kai, you might think you have all the time in the world but rumour has it that the council will be there before too long to check that she wears your bite and that you have indeed done the nasty... even if that means watching you two go at it like bunnies... you understand?" Kai growled at the computer image. "As if I would ever indulge in anything so vulgar as a display! I gave my word and I shall not break it.... you of all people should know that my word is my law." With that he hung up, unable to look the guy in the face anymore... his heart racing, the memories painful. Still he had to fight to keep himself in the present... The council would come to check? Sure, he had known that, but hearing it again so soon seemed to hit everything home. Make it suddenly real! He stood up, brushing himself down before he turned to find Perstephone. It didn't take long, and when he did he simply said. "Perstephone," His tone serious and his gaze focused. "We need to talk...." They most certainly did. He looked down at his ring for a moment and dropped his arm to his side, now was not the time to think about the danger of getting to close to his wife.... though Taylor's earlier taunts came flooding back too. He wanted to growl and snap at them all for polluting his thoughts! He needed to think straight, damn it! He took a deep breath and watched her for a moment before eventually saying. "Since we are to be stuck together for.... an unforeseen time... perhaps you would indulge me by telling me a little about yourself, Perstephone." This time when he said her name he purred it like he had during the wedding.

Steffi looked up in surprise when Kai asked her how she'd slept, honestly having expected him to rant and rave about how she was a godforsaken embarrassment to the world and her father and her pack and magic in general and... well, basically everything she'd heard on numerous occasions from various sources, not all benign. She looked back at her eggs, which were steadily getting colder, and blinked noncommittally. "I slept fine, I guess... I'm used to it," she mumbled, stabbing at a piece of spinach and gingerly lifting it to her mouth. Honestly, the food wasn't bad... it just wasn't nearly as satisfying as a fresh kill. But Steffi knew she'd be waiting a long time before Kai allowed her out of the house again, let alone to hunt... Luckily, she wouldn't die before that happened... she hoped. When he suggested sleeping together in one bed, Steffi nearly choked on her food. Sputtering, her eyes met his in disbelief, although true to her momentarily apologetic nature, she spared him her retort. Are you serious?! they read as he turned back to her food, shaking her head. At that point, she really didn't care; if he so much as made a move on her, that ring on her finger would be lodged in the back of his throat. But she never would've thought Kai to want to make such a suggestion, especially after her... show the night before. Of course, then he began to chide her about the inappropriateness of her behavior and her anger was back, twinkling in her eyes as she glared at the white table, refusing to meet his eyes. His words stung, especially when he mentioned self-respect, of which Bret especially would know she had none. Taking an angry sip of her orange juice, she slammed the glass down and shot a glare at him. "Look, you don't have to tell me how badly I bombed, okay?" she snapped, standing up angrily and walking to the other end of the kitchen as Kai finished his 'breakfast'. Leaning against the counter, she said, "You knew I was a screw-up from the beginning, so don't even pretend like you weren't expecting it! The Peace Council had no idea what they were dealing with when they gripped me with an arrogant dickf*ck like you! So stop standing there acting like you're better than me when you're just as hype as those goddamn tight-asses over in Gotham!" She sighed in frustration, rubbing her temples as she took a deep breath to calm down. She shook her head, pushing past him and plopping back down in front of her food. Leaning her head onto the table wearily, she said, "Look, I'm sorry I'm such a damn failure, okay? Happy now?" That was her way of apologizing, as brutish as it may have sounded, and at that point it was clear that she wouldn't hear any more of what Kai had to say to her. As he took his leave, Steffi ignored his comment, getting up to dispose of the now empty plate as he excused himself to his so-called 'business'. She washed the dish up quickly, knowing that there was a dishwasher close by, and stacked the porcelain plate in the dish rack before drying off her hands and venturing in search of something more suitable to wear. She heard Kai go upstairs, and not too long after that did her ears pick up the gentle whooshing of the shower in the bathroom that she assumed to have belonged to the master suite. Pulling a pair of jean shorts out of her bag -- which were less jeans and much more short -- she lid them up over her legs and exited the living room, journeying down the hall to see what other interesting things she could find. She followed her nose; places that reeked of stink were the first on her list, since that's where she assumed Kai to spend most of his time. Her search led her throughout all three floors of the house -- bathrooms, studies, sitting rooms... there was so much space, Steffi didn't find it hard to imagine that it must have taken an eternity to fill it up with... stuff. Running her hands over tidbits, sitting on chairs, rubbing against the walls... anything to get her scent everywhere she possibly could if it meant pissing him off. He thought it was bad on him? See ow he felt when it was all over his house! She was looking outside the beautiful panoramic window on the second floor when she heard the shower stop and, taking a step back, she flipped her hair around one more time to ensure that Kai would know she'd been there. Bounding down the stairs with an enthusiastic shriek -- after all, they were spiraly stairs -- she slid across the smooth floor in her bare feet before stopping in front of a room she immediately knew to be the library. However, at that moment, she heard Kai's voice coming from just through the wall on her left and, ears perked, she began to listen to the conversation that was very quickly becoming quite heated. "...at least be spending time with your new wife?" Steffi frowned, tuning her hearing to a higher precision as she took a step closer to the wall. "... I am sorry to disappoint you... you might think you have all the time in the world... rumour has it that the council will be there... to check that she wears your bite and that you have... done the nasty... even if that means watching you two go at it like bunnies... as if I would ever indulge in anything so vulgar...!" Steffi gasped, her ears bouncing back to their normal intensity as she covered her mouth in dismay. Looking over at the phone on the small end table by the window, she jolted towards it, grabbing it up and hurriedly dialing her brother's apartment. He picked up after only half a ring. "Steffi?" he asked hurriedly, and Steffi nodded. "Yeah Fex, it's me, listen, I need to talk to--""Oh God, Steffi? Are you alright? What the hell did he do to you?? Did you... well, did you do it??!""Fex, relax, I slept on the couch. Listen, you need to let me talk to--""We've been worried sick about you! You didn't even bother to call us last night after you got to your new place okay. That is... you DID get there okay, right?"Steffi rolled her eyes, letting out a loud sigh. "Look, I don't wanna talk about it. Listen, you have to let me talk to Pops. There's something fishy going on around here with this whole wedding hootenanny and I'm not so sure he's gonna like it."There was a pause at the other end of the line, and Steffi could picture her brother with a thoughtful frown on his face, contemplating whether or not he should believe her, or just tell her to get over herself. "... have you been drinking?""No, I'm fine," Steffi growled, insulted that he would even ask that. "Just... oh sh*t hang on, I think he's coming back. Talk to you later, loveyoukissesbye!" Steffi slammed the phone back into the cradle and headed over to a bookshelf just as Kai walked in, looking rather refreshed now that he wasn't in his pajamas. Steffi noted the casually elegant way he was dressed, as she would've expected from a vampire. She caught herself giving him the once-over before averting her eyes to the book she'd pulled out. The History of Supernatural Persecution... wonderful. "Yeah, that's one way to put it," she remarked dryly when Kai mentioned that they needed to talk. Holding the book at her side, she plopped sideways into the elegant black armchair -- which, in all its elegance, wasn't comfortable at all -- and propped her bare feet up onto the arm rest as she began to sloppily braid her hair. "Talk about me?" she asked, looking up at him jadedly before refocusing her attention back onto her braid. "Nothing that a few words can't tell... I'm forty eight... though in layman's terms that would make me twenty-three... born in the back of a van on Route 384 in western Colorado... I've been working all my life, mostly blue-collar stuff, when I'm not busy wrecking things..." The last part drew forth a smirk from her -- one could almost say that she was proud to say that, although in her eyes she was clearly resentful. She looked up at him, the smirk still on her face as she stretched and said, "What about you, hun? I hear you're old... really old. Like... they didn't even have indoor plumbing when you were born old." She was teasing him a little, using the generic nickname she used for any male she wasn't really interested in, but whose interest in her was clear as day. Her face, although smirking, still held an aura of challenge as she stretched her leg straight into the air with a loud yawn. Flexibility, as Kai may have assumed by now, was part of her physical ability, as was stealth and agility... something deadly in battle, but even deadlier in other games...

As Kai had looked for Perstephone he had considered her earlier argument, he hadn't commented on it then, hadn't felt the need to retaliate to such defensive words... the fact was, he actually knew virtually nothing about her, which made him wonder what she knew about him...? He was more than sure there were tales and stories about him, not all correct... especially if told only from the wolves perspective, but he had lived so long that she could have heard practically anything about him. Slaughters, rampages, blood lust, hatred, violence, vengeance....? Still, he had taken her last snapped words as an apology.... or as close to one as he would ever get. Fine, he would accept the apology for now, but it meant nothing if she continued to act like an animal in public! While he listened to her answer his question he had to wonder why she had wandered around his space while he was in the shower, purposefully making it so there was no mistaking the scent of her.... she had been so close to him naked, was that her point? That she was more than capable of being there when he was most vulnerable? Interesting. But he was not afraid. She was only forty-eight? So young? Born in the back of a van? Well, he supposed he couldn't complain about that given the place of his birth in a much less sophisticated time... but still, why had she not been born in a hospital? The reminder of her 'blue collar' stuff was less than appealing, especially since her cocky attitude seemed to say that she was more than pleased with past endeavours. The way she called him 'hun' grated against his nerves, but he chose to ignore it, realised he was ignoring a lot around this woman. Something he wouldn't be able to do forever. Before he answered he raised a hand to his forehead and massaged his temples, "You are going to make me fight you constantly aren't you Perstephone? You and the world.... great." His words were spoken more on a low hiss than an actual statement for her to hear, not that he cared if she did or not. Simply, Kai had to wonder if he had the strength to constantly fight with her and the rest of the world.... sure, they both knew this was 'fake', merely delaying, the imaginings of a mad council who knew little of their kinds.... but here they currently stood, and there was no taking it back at the moment. He had made a promise to cherish and honour her, had promised his maker to marry her.... but she was not going to make that easy on him, was she? As if she was the only one forced into it... how little she knew! In the end he dropped it and decided to answer her words even if it wasn't actually a question or a show of interest. "The Roman's did have indoor plumbing," Of a sort. "...and underground heating... it was only after they were forced to withdraw from the world before their empire collapsed that the world was plunged back into the dark on such things." Not that vampires had such bodily functions, the blood simply used and dying in their veins before they needed more. By this point his arms were crossed over his chest, his red eyes watching her and noticing that she had on a very poor excuse for clothing... could you even count that belt as a pair of shorts? Let alone her stretched legs as she showed off more flesh that he would be comfortable with others seeing.... yes, it seemed he was as possessive of her as he was his other things. Great. He was doomed. "I was there when Claudius invaded Briton.... in 43 AD I believe." He had been sixteen during the invasion, had stood on the side of the Roman's. Seven years later they had found Londinium, and it was during a great fight there that he had lost his life.... twenty-three years of age. Though after watching the world for so many years he now knew that people aged much slower and differently to how they once had. Woman no longer finding it acceptable to have children so early, in fact, they would still be considered children themselves had they given birth the same age his own mother had.... suddenly he felt very old. Very old indeed. There were very few who were older than him... his maker one of them. Of them all, Kai was the only one who had never taken a bride.... until now, it seemed. He had his reasons, reasons he had no intention of divulging with a dog. "Last night," He found himself saying, leaning against one of the bookcases and allowing his fingers to run over the spines until one caught his interest. "You accused me of choosing this existence.... for the record. I did not." That was all he would say on the subject, but for some reason it was important to him that she didn't just make assumptions of him. Opening the book, Avestan Gathas, an Iron age literature of poetry and short stories, written in old English.... very old English, he began to read. He chuckled slightly at the first one he read, closed the book carefully and returned it to the shelf. "I shall not pretend to like you Perstephone, but know that I will honour my vows to you...." He straightened up. "Have you seen the indoor pool?" He was attempting to placate the beast, to bring forth the wolfen curiosity. An olive branch of sorts. "If not... I shall show you." His eyes darted to the windows, each locked tightly shut with thick shutters during the day -like now. "The shutters are down during all sunlight hours.... however, if you wish it, I can provide you a room where they can be removed for your indulgence." After all, for the time being, this was their home.... he frowned a little at that, suddenly feeling like he was working far too hard for this fake marriage, especially since his partner was not doing the same. Perhaps he really should just f*ck her, bite her and ignore her for the rest of their time together? It would probably make it easier on them both.... he would bring it up later, he supposed, after all speaking so plainly so early in the morning was far from civilised. Plus, Leigo's words were still raw in his mind. MitashiUchiha16 Me being tired makes for an almost nice Kai apparently o.O

Syaoran-Puu Haha, that counts double for Steffi xD Perstephone lowered her leg slightly when she heard the disdain in Kai's voice as he mentioned having to fight her constantly. Not wanting to retort at the moment, she saved her words for a more... inappropriate time, as she was coming to realize that her little habits were becoming all too predictable. Steffi wasn't a predictable girl, something she prided herself on, and she didn't plan on ruining that reputation, especially not around her... rather permanent roommate. Kai obviously hadn't decided to accept the humor in her taunt about indoor plumbing, and she huffed, crossing her arms and slouching horribly in her seat as he began mentioning the Romans. Of course she knew that! She may have been a raucous, ostentatious delinquent, but she wasn't stupid, nor would she allow Kai to think of her as such. She was perfectly well educated, seeing as she had a rather shameful habit of delving into books when no one was around to tease her about it. Learning of the past was something she'd always loved to do... she had her own reasons for that, of course, but she'd never reveal them to anyone, least of all her 'beloved' husband! "Yeah, yeah, I catch it... Romans built their cities in valleys where it would be easy to divert water from the mountains via elaborate arched aquaducts... I mean, I knew you were old, but damn... that's ancient." When he said 43 A.D., Steffi smirked, finally able to show off something Kai would definitely not have expected from what he likely thought to be an uncultured, uneducated dog. As a matter of fact, why stop with simple knowledge that Kai likely knew? She might as well divulge some of her own history, since she could only assume nothing would bore him more. Yawning casually, she said, "Oh yeah, the invasion of Briton in the year 43 A.D... Aulus Plautius landed with four legions and four auxiliaries at Rutupiae... I think it's called Richborough now... and defeated the Britons, led by Caratacus and his big bro Togodumnus, in two battles on the rivers Medway and Thames... Togodumnus was wiped out, of course, but Caratacus went and lived in Rome after that, the traitor..." She scowled. "Togodumnus had two babies, Togobrutus and Tivullia... who we call Togo and Tivu, our ancestors, and who were still puppies when he was killed... their mom took 'em and split into the woods when news of Briton's conquest reached their tiny village over in Lyons..." She sighed. "And that's how I happened, in the long run... awesome, right?"She arched her back, emitting a loud yawn as she did so and spinning around to a more natural sitting position. "I mean, maybe you didn't pick this kind of life, but at least you died knowing you could've fought back," she answered, her face nonchalant although on the inside she was feeling rather bitter. It took a long time for her to admit to herself the truth, but in the end she knew she would've picked being human over being a werewolf. That being said, being the way she was now, she wouldn't trade it for the world... but only because this was the only life she knew. Kai may have been turned against his will, but at least he would've found some relief knowing that he'd at least tried to resist. He'd failed, that much was obvious... but still, it wasn't a regret he would've had to live with. Steffi had no way of knowing any of those things, of course, seeing as she knew next to nothing about Kai or what he felt behind that smooth, marble face of his... but being a girl who valued choices, Steffi couldn't help but to resent having never been given one to begin with. She frowned, realizing that she was breaking her promise to herself about never thinking about those things. Thinking led to feeling, and emotions were not something worth trifling with at the moment, especially not in the presence of someone who was supposed to see her as an uncaring, unfeeling b*tch. Kai pulled out a book and Steffi paused, standing up from her seat and pretending to flick a piece of lint off her shoulder. She was actually thinking about what she would say to her father when he called. She doubted he was completely in the dark about this, and it pissed her off to end to think that he wouldn't mention something like that to her... on the other hand, what exactly was she expecting? To just... get away with wearing a ring and living her life as she usually would? On the other hand, she really hadn't thought this matter so serious that the council would come knocking on the door to check her neck... all they'd mentioned to her was the need for a leash... not a leash tied to a bedpost. She didn't quite know what would happen to her if she refused -- after all, not even she had the balls to mess with Gilda -- but as it stood right now, Steffi would rather have spent an eternity in the Netherworld than to jump in the sack with a Bloody. And apparently, she wasn't the only one who felt that way. Kai continued to talk, about his refusal to like her, and pools and shutters (the part about the pool was especially interesting to the young wolf, but she said nothing, only glancing in his direction with piqued interest as he spoke), and when he finally shut his mouth, allowing Steffi to reply... she did. But not in the way he might have expected from her. Perstephone had absolutely no idea what drove her to do this, to walk over to Kai and stand before him in a way only a wife can stand before her husband -- arms crossed, weight tossed casually to one side with an unsatisfied frown on her face and a closeness she'd so far known only between mates of her own kind -- but she did, and as her forearms grazed the front of his shirt, she felt a slight shiver go down her spine. "Pool, huh?" she asked quietly, lips curled into a smirk. "Sounds fun, I should have a bikini stashed in one of those bags. And you wouldn't have to go through all the trouble of giving me a room if you'd just let me out of this house for an hour or two... and as for the whole fighting thing..." She unfolded one of her arms, ignoring the screaming voice in her head telling her to use her fingernails to rip his throat out. Instead, she lightly ran a fingernail over his shirt, observing the crease it left there with a thoughtful frown before staring straight up into those crimson eyes of his as she leaned even closer to him, whispering, "... if I didn't constantly fight you, then I wouldn't be doing my duty as a werewolf. And honestly, I don't need you to like me... as long as you do what your friend Leigo tells you to... I don't think it really matters, does it?" Winking lightly, she pulled away from him and strolled lightly out into the hall, her gait cheerful despite the fact that she was feeling a mixture of terror, disgust, and desire... the former associated no doubt with both the latter. Once in the living room, she pulled off her sweater and the rest of her clothes, breathing in relief at being totally and completely naked (it was most definitely a wolf thing) before reaching into her bag and pulling out an army-print bikini. She slipped it on in a flash, twisting her hair up into a sloppy bun and sliding on her dog tags -- which normally she always wore, but had removed before the wedding -- before stepping into her flip flops and going out in search of Kai. She was perfectly capable of finding the pool herself, of course; her nose had picked up the scent of chlorine long ago, during her explorations, and now as she approached Kai, she lingered a moment, wanting to make him as uncomfortable as possible in the presence of... well, it was the closest he would ever get to seeing her naked, and seeing as there was a reason Steffi was so 'popular' amongst members of the opposite sex, she had no problem in indulging Kai's obviously present curiosity. Steffi's body was that of a belligerent she-wolf, there was no mistaking that. Lean and wiry, her musculature was clearly defined along her shoulders and abdomen, and her thin waist made for rather shapely hips that swayed ever so slightly as she walked. Her back held a slight arch that had caused the girl some discomfort over the years, but what was most prominent about her that Kai may not have noticed on her legs, was the fact that she had a multitude of scars all over her skin that could only mean she'd been in her fair share of scuffles over the years. Long, thin marks covered her back and her stomach, her hips, her shoulders... there was even one that protruded onto the bag of her neck, which Steffi used her long hair to cover. But now that it was up, there really wasn't anything left to hide the fact that her skin, although smooth, was far from flawless. But in all honesty, Steffi was proud of her scars. She'd earned them (as well as distributed them), and it was a clear sign to all that saw them that she was not to be trifled with. Catching Kai's gaze, she put her hands on her hips, her dog tags clinking together as she said impatiently, "So are you going to stand there staring at me all day, or are you going to show me the pool before it gets dark?"

Yes, Kai supposed, he was ancient. It was also for that reason that he was so powerful, why he could go so long without blood and even tolerate certain amounts of sunlight before his flesh began to burn and blister and turn to dust. Not that there was any reason to reveal that little secret. Kai's thoughts soon shifted as he listened to Perstephone, pleasantly surprised that she wasn't a completely uneducated and unintelligent fool, in fact, as she spoke he found himself wondering what else she knew.... or what was she trying to achieve while here? Was she sent for information on him and his kind? After all, he hadn't expected her to actually have a brain after her brutish behaviour the night before. Was she a spy? It would do her no good, he mused, for there was nothing he would say that would reveal anything of use to her and her kind. Since there was likely never a day when he would trust Perstephone not to betray him, well, there would always be things they never spoke of. Togo and Tivu? Ancestors of the weres? He hadn't known that, but then again, at the time he had been human and hadn't known much about anything outside of the Roman belief system, he would slaughter animals and pray to the gods for fortune just like the rest after all.... it made him wonder how far back the races went, he had never thought to ask before, and now... well, there were likely very few left alive who knew the answers, who knew more than stories that had been passed on by word of mouth and warped over the centuries. Shame. After all, Kai was fascinated by history.... and preventing it from repeating. Died knowing he could have fought back? But he really hadn't had the chance, had been as weak as a lamb, already dying when Leigo approached him... a dark angel offering his life and immortality in return for eternal fidelity. It hadn't seemed like too much of a bargain back then... but had he known what he knew now, perhaps he would have thought harder, even as blood had already started to drip in his mouth before a single word passed from his lips. A hand on his neck forcing him to swallow. His eyes glaring up with menace and the promise of death..... a death, he would never be able to deliver. He shook himself to shake the thoughts, the memories. He never thought about the past, yet it seemed Perstephone had stripped him of the plaster that had kept everything at bay, kept it locked away.... out of sight and out of mind. No longer. Once again Perstephone took him by surprise as she approached, her body suddenly too close, her soft curves pressed against him, arms on his chest, her scent suddenly in his nose even as his red eyes narrowed in caution at her odd and sudden embrace. What was she playing at? He could only guess what game she was suddenly playing, knew he would be wise to want no part of it... but Kai didn't push her away, simply observed her in a silent and predatorial way that most vampires possessed. It took a moment for her words to sink in... pool? Bikini? He found a flash memory of what appeared to be an army print thing in her luggage the night before. Fitting design, he supposed, since she indeed was a soldier for the weres, here to fight Kai and his kind. He was about to open his mouth and comment on her wanting out of this house when she continued to move, her movements almost seductive despite her words. Leigo? How did she know his name.... what did she mean do what he tells me? WAIT! Realisation clicked, she had heard his conversation, there was nothing damning in it, at least not to his thoughts, but the fact she had heard didn't sit well with him. He would have to consider installing soundproof shielding to one room to ensure that things that needed to stay private remained that way. After all... like she was hinting, he was a vampire and she was a werewolf... and never should the two cross, unless it was with tooth and claw. He was about to push her away, moved to do just that, when she started to withdraw as well. He growled low, his words under the sound. "You know nothing Perstephone." No, very few knew the reason why he was here, the real reason.... and if it hadn't been for the threat against his clan, he might not be. No, Kai didn't fear werewolves... but there was something he did fear. Kai let her go. Replacing the book she had pulled out earlier so that it was aligned exactly with the ones next to it, all the while he tried to organise his thoughts, tried to figure out how he felt and what he should do. He couldn't fail here, yet he wouldn't simply let her walk all over him either.... fighting constantly didn't appeal but it was better than always ignoring the things that pissed him off. GAH! He couldn't think straight. It was for that reason that he paced to the kitchen, opened and closed his fridge before abandoning it untouched and leaving for the computer room once more. He was eyeing the games for something mind-numbing, something that wouldn't allow him time to think, wouldn't allow him to let the she-wolf get under his skin! She was just a dog. Just a dog. While she may now bear his 'name' (though Kai didn't come with one) she was not his, he would not keep her, she was not his true bride. No, his true bride had yet to be made.... the first and only vampire that Kai would make. His ears picked up the clink of metal even as he turned to see her standing unashamed in her bikini. His eyes didn't wander, simply remained stoic and almost bored as he glanced at her face. If she was trying to get a reaction out of him she was going about it the wrong way, her earlier actions cementing in his mind that it mattered very little to him if she was happy or not, all that mattered was his clan just like all that mattered to her was her pack. He could not forget the reason he was doing this in the first place. She was nothing. Collateral damage. He inclined his head a little and stepped past her, his eyes mildly registered that her flesh was marred with scars... yet another reminder of the war that stood between them. Each scar like a valley that could never be crossed or conquered. Kai needed to quit before it was too late. "Indeed Perstephone, this way." His voice was cold, distant even as his long strides ate up the distance to the pool, uncaring if she was behind him or not -even as he knew she would be, wouldn't allow him the advantage of losing her. It was a stunning place, one of his favourites in his home. Considering how he didn't have to worry about germs and simply the water growing a little stagnant he used the minimum amount of chlorine, still the scent was strong to his nose. "There is a sauna over there." He pointed to a set of glass doors. "Beside it you will discover a shower." His eyes wandered to the hot tub, "If you require the hot tub I would recommend allowing it ten minutes to warm up before use. The controls are hidden behind that black tile upon the wall. Simply lightly press it and it shall open up. The settings are already in place so you simply need to press the green button on and the red button off." Even a fool could do it, though he remembered something. Wolves had hotter blood, "the thermometer dial is there should you wish it to be hotter." Absentmindedly he moved towards the pool, knelt down and felt the temperature of the water. Perfect. He almost closed his eyes and allowed himself to indulge in the liquid warmth. He looked back towards Perstephone, "I know several excellent masseuse's," He wanted to chuckle, "all vampires of course." He smirked at that, "but they have both female and male should you wish to indulge in one." Not that Kai was sure they would actually willingly touch his wife, especially since she didn't bare his mark, and given her attitude likely never would. He frowned at that, they needed to talk about this, needed to clear the air and ensure they were on equal terms in this. For the first time since she stood before him in a bikini his eyes roamed gently to her toes, his mind already thinking of what to say as he straightened up and wiped his sleeves smooth. He knew there was a mark on his chest where her nail had traced earlier but he ignored it. "Perstephone, you are aware that the council shall expect certain things of us, are you not?" She had overheard his conversation with Leigo, he was sure of it, there was no need beating around the bush. His red eyes burnt with focus. "I swore in front of my own kind that I would honour and cherish you... and I shall keep to that, I shall not touch you or do anything against your will... however, you will have to come to me sooner rather than later unless you wish them to..." He actually growled at the thought, snarling slightly in frustration. "...make a spectacle of the... act." He used the word, unable to think of a better one. There, he had said it. Given her something to think about, and he was sure that she would come to him eventually. Until then, he would simply behave like normal. Regain his control and keep it, no little she-wolf was going to take that away from him. "Enjoy your swim." He smirked a little, "And Perstephone, for the time being I would abandon your dream to leave this house for a few hours. At this time it is simply... not possible. I am not a fool who will allow you to run home or to feed information and things from my home to others. Do not make me replace the silver in my home."

Perstephone smirked at Kai's back when he turned away; he was obviously trying to hide the fact that he wanted her in a place where he could keep an eye on her. It wasn't the first time she sensed the temptation of a man wanting to chain her to a wall, although in this situation, Steffi doubted it was for the same reasons others before him had expressed that interest. He took a quick pace to the pool, and Steffi had no problem keeping up; after all, having lived a fast-paced life, she was used to taking things quickly... either that, or she was feeling too petty to let him go without being annoyed at her. They entered the beautiful enclosure that was the indoor pool, and Steffi let out a low whistle. "Not bad," she said quietly, dropping her towel and her favorite jean shorts onto an elegant black cushioned lawn chair. Her attention, of course, focused immediately on the diving board that stood on the far end of the Olympic-sized pool, not too far from the inlaid hot tub, which she ventured to before Kai had even gotten a chance to mention it. Sitting on the edge of the still, cool water, she extended her leg and pushed the control tile in with her foot, watching as it sprung open to reveal the various knobs and dials that Kai had just mentioned. Wiggling around a little, she turned the dial and pushed the green button, activating the flurry of bubbles that caused the water to foam and splutter. Closing the panel again with her dainty foot, she stood from the ledge -- having just completely operated the hot tub with her toes -- and tugged on the hair tie around her hair, causing it to cascade down her back in a flurry of fluffy white strands. "Yeah, sauna, shower, hot tub... I think I got it," she said absentmindedly, climbing the tall ladder to the diving board. She reached the top and, without a second thought, took a graceful, practiced leap into the pool. She slid into the water almost noiselessly, having executed a near perfect arc, before resurfacing and letting out an aggravated yelp. "Geez, this water is fuh-REE-zing!!" she shouted, swimming to quickly to the edge of the pool and using her rather convenient upper body strength to lift herself back onto the tile. She was dripping wet, of course, but in the true nature of a dog, she shook herself out, leaving splatters of water nearly everywhere. Of course, once Kai mentioned vampire masseuses, Steffi grimaced. It was hard enough keeping her claws off of one Bloody without the extra annoyance of another one touching her. Not like they'd dare get anywhere near her unless Kai commanded it, but Steffi wasn't exactly going to take advantage of an offer she didn't want. "I know plenty of my own people, so don't do me any favors," she snapped, crossing her arms at the obvious lie. As if werewolves would ever do something as prissy and high-brow as massage therapy. Their massage therapy consisted of rolling around in the dirt for a few hours before taking a day-long nap. Now that was rejuvenating. And then, to business. Perstephone could already sense that this was going to a place neither of them were comfortable in, so she was quick to react when Kai mentioned the conversation she'd overheard. Turning away, she said, "The act? The act? What is this, fourth grade?" She looked over her shoulder irritably. "If they wanna watch us have sex, then they wanna watch us have sex. And if you're considering decking me to avoid being gimped in front of your buds, then you can just come out and say so like a real man." He said nothing further, and that suited Steffi just fine; at least she'd given him something to think about. She was about to head back to the hot tub, when suddenly, her sensitive hearing picked up something that definitely wasn't Kai. Shutting off the hot tub, she scurried silently over to a window and pressed her nose against the glass. Yes. That scent... it was unmistakeable. But, if Kai were to smell it...! Quickly, she darted towards the sauna. Having activated it with the control panel near the hot tub, she tore open the glass doors and ran inside, watching as the steam flooded the pool area. She felt herself beginning to perspire, and nodded in satisfaction, running around everywhere to spread her scent evenly around the entire area. Strong as it was, it would mask anything else that was floating around. As the large, white sauna cloud spread like fog across the cold pool water, Steffi ran an instant through the shower, darting back out to where her shorts were and pulling them on as she ran for what she assumed to be the changing room. Yes, the smell was getting stronger, although as she wandered hastily through the large bottom floor, she relied more on her nose than anything else to find a back doorway. There! It was small, but it didn't take her long to realize that there was a small service exit that lead to a path on the side of the house. It wrapped around the kitchen and would eventually lead to the driveway, Steffi assumed, but that didn't matter to her right now. What mattered was that there was a forest behind the house, and in this forest, something -- or rather, some one -- was waiting for her. Satisfied that she had remained unnoticed thus far, she slipped through the door and hurried outside in her bare feet. Physically fit, it didn't take long before she'd run into the forest, tracking down the strong male scent that had led her there. As she rounded a corner into a small clearing, she heard a rustling noise behind her. Turning around quickly, she narrowed her eyes at who was waiting for her there. "Bret..." she growled, balling her fists as her eyes narrowed into slits. Bret chuckled, uncrossing his arms as he emerged from the shadows, motioning to give her a hug. Steffi took a defensive step back, fangs protruding dangerously from her mouth. "What the hell are you doing here?" she growled. Bret looked almost insulted as he lowered his hands to his side. "Can't even show me a little love?" he asked menacingly before turning away. "Guess the Bloody Overlord got the goods faster than I expected...""You don't know sh*t!" Steffi yelped, insulted that he would even say such a thing. Honestly, had he no faith in her at all?? ... on the other hand, he didn't exactly have a reason to. She turned away. "Get out of here," she ordered. "You're deep in Bloody territory, and I highly doubt your reason for seeing me is worth risking your life.""Lillith sent me, actually," he answered, and at this, Steffi became slightly more interested. Bret took a step towards her with a smirk, grabbing her wrist and pulling her towards him lightly. Voice mocking, he said, "She wants you to know that she's worried about you, and I promised I'd deliver the message... but my services aren't free, you know... is that the bikini I bought you? Looks even better now that you have a few of my scars to go with it...""Get off me," she hissed, tugging hard at her wrist, but Bret, for once, was stronger. Looking at her in pleasant surprise, he said, "What? The great and powerful Perstephone MacLair can't pull away? Guess that little stunt last night wasn't enough to satisfy your need to turn, huh?" Bret, of course, was referring to a werewolf's need to transform every few days, or risk losing their strength. It was a sort of... constant refresher. Steffi, however, hadn't turned in almost a week... the fact that she was still able to sniff out her ex-lover was remarkable, all aspects considered. She growled at him menacingly, and he let go, a smirk on his lips. "I'm married, Bret," she snarled. "Touch me, and your life is over.""Married, huh?" Bret asked curiously, forcing her into an embrace and leaning down into her ear as he whispered, "All of a sudden? Well... that's never stopped you before, has it? What makes it so different now...?"That did it. Flexing her muscles, Steffi landed a sharp hay-maker right in Bret's jaw. He stumbled back, rubbing his face with an angry scowl as his muscles began to ripple and stretch... a clear sign that he was transforming. Remembering the ban that Gilda had put on her abilities during the daylight hours, Steffi hesitated... a big mistake. Bret, now a giant gray wolf beast, lunged towards her, jaw snapping as though to challenge her. Reaching out, Steffi clamped his jaw shut with her powerful hands and clung on for dear life, skidding backwards on the slippery grass and knowing that if those jaws reached her, she'd be snapped in half like a toothpick. Bret pulled back, swiping his paw across her chest and leaving three bloody gashes in his wake. Steffi cried out, already having experienced the pain but finding it painful nonetheless. Bret jumped at her, knocking her against a tree before sinking his jaws into her shoulder. Suppressing a loud scream, Perstephone struggled against him despite the pain, but stopped short when she picked up another scent heading their way. "Lillith..." she whispered in shock as her sister emerged above her, gun in hand. Her eyes widened in shock. "Lillith... Lillith, what are you doing? What are you doing?!??""Bret told me you'd betray us... you'd betray the pack..." she whispered, pulling back the lock. Her eyes were hazy, and Steffi gasped, realizing that Bret must have slipped her another one of those stupifiers he used whenever he got banged up. Not so bad for werewolves... horribly sedating for humans. "I can't let you... I can't let you hurt us...""Lillith, you're talking crazy. Put down the gun, and we'll all walk away like nothing happened, okay? Now calm down..." Steffi said calmly, her heart pounding. If the bullet in that gun was silver -- and Steffi wouldn't put it past Bret to make it look like Lillith killed her sister, out of spite to Allister who had always looked down on his antics even more so than on his crazy daughter -- then she was done for. There'd be a war, and everyone would die. "But... Bret said...!" Lillith said quietly, her face contorting in agony as Bret screamed an order into her head. Her trigger finger began to jerk, and Steffi began to wiggle uncomfortably. "Bret... said...!" Just as she was about to shoot, Steffi kicked her leg out from under Bret's hulking body, throwing off Lillith's aim and sending the bullet careening into the ground... not before grazing both Bret's jaw and Perstephone's shoulder. Crying out in pain, Steffi used the momentary distraction to free herself from Bret's mouth as he howled in pain. Kicking his square in the jaw, Steffi made a break for it, knowing that if Bret followed, Kai would have his head on a platter... and Lillith's too. Ungrateful, damn, inhuman b*****d... Steffi thought maliciously as she bolted back the way she came, over the field in the back to the door where she'd first made her escape. She could still hear Bret howling in the distance and she frowned, wondering what awaited Lillith back home. But Perstephone could care less at the moment. Stumbling into the house, she followed her nose to where she knew Kai was lurking. That silver... if it gets pumped through my body, I'll die... I have to find a way to slow down my heartbeat before... before I... Slumping against the door frame, the blood from her scratches smeared all over her chest, Steffi let out a groan of agony. Kai was already waiting for her, as she suspected, so she didn't have to walk far. "Kai," she groaned. "It's Bret... he shot me... the silver, it's in my blood... if you're so determined to keep me alive... long enough to... then you have to... get it..." She fell to her knees with a groan, not expecting much help from someone who would have loved to see her die, she realized with a start that there was indeed a way to save herself, at least for a the moment. The second Kai got close enough, Steffi bit back her hesitations, grabbed his collar tightly, and kissed him. She felt herself weaken considerably but she did not pull away. See how he liked having a full taste of her determination! And this was not just a kiss like any other. This was a desperate, angry, and damn near apologetic kiss that left her breathless as she pulled away, eyes murky and heart slowed to almost nothing. She collapsed into a bloody heap on the floor and growled angrily at herself, wondering if her faithful husband really had the guts to save her life after all their people had been through.

Kai had been watching her since they entered the room, she seemed... impressed, good, for some reason that pleased him. Except she had no manners, using those feet of hers to activate the controls... did she have no manners? It was for that reason that he allowed himself to laugh when she finally jumped into the water and shouted and a sputtered; "Geez, this water is fuh-REE-zing!!" That would teach her for not checking it first, had he not just mentioned the temperature gauge on the hot tub? Then again, he hadn't mentioned the differences in their temperatures and suspected that most didn't think about such things.... whatever the cause the result was certainly worth hanging around to see. He grinned to himself long after his laughter died down. At least until she spoke again, answering his offer in that snapped way of her's, crossing her arms... he was pretty sure she was lying but decided to give her enough respect so as not to embarrass her needlessly over it, something he was sure he would not receive should their roles be reversed. What was wrong with saying the act? He was simply attempting to make a vulgar topic more palatable this early in the morning, but what surprised him more was her reply... something that showed with the slight gaping of his mouth. Wait, she was ok with them watching? Well, Kai wasn't! He wasn't as loose as these werewolves apparently, while he could be as adventurous and dominate in the bedroom as anyone -if not more so- what he did in private remained private. He was still trying to grapple with her wording when he shook his head and left. Being gimped? What the hell was that? He ran his fingers through his hair, paused just outside the pool door to think about it.... being jumped? Her on top? Being made a fool? Showed up? Put to the test? He really didn't know what that meant, nor where to start to figure it out... great, how could you retaliate when you have no idea what she was even talking about? That was the only reason for his silence or he would have spoke up, would have told her that it was never going to happen as a show and she should get that through her thick skull now because Kai simply wasn't like that, never would be! If Kai had lingered for a moment longer he would have noticed the sudden change in Perstephone and followed her, as it was he was already heading to his game room and the phone. Though this time he was calling Taylor, needed to check on him after the incident last night. He had hoped that Perstephone would stay in the pool long enough to be distracted and not overhear this conversation. Number dialled. Second ring and the familiar voice of his friend picked up. "Kai. Wasn't expecting to hear from you today." He smiled at that, but didn't waste the precious time he had stolen. "I wasn't expecting the little show we got last night. You ok?" His friend didn't even hesitate in his answer. "Fine. Been in worst situations. She wasn't as strong as I would have expected." He frowned at that, wasn't as strong? Now that he thought about the attack the previous night... she should have been able to snap Taylor's neck, yet despite not holding any obvious restraint she hadn't.... where she-wolves weaker perhaps? After all, Kai hadn't exactly met any in the past, very little was known about the rare and elusive creatures. "Hmmmm.... I do not know. Do we know anything about her?" There was a pause on the line and Kai knew that his friend was checking their database. "We have a copy of most of her dealings with the law, lots of them, she seems very destructive... makes you wond---.... ah! It seems she was banned from shifting by Gilda." Something didn't make sense but Kai didn't know what. "Ok. As long as you're ok." He was about to hang up when he heard a rather hesitant "Eh... wait..." from his friend. Pausing with a frown he just waited, knowing that his friend would know what it meant, that he was waiting for him to continue. "Are you ok?" Kai frowned at that.... was Taylor seriously worried about him? He actually chuckled a little, slightly flattered that the other would care about him, if only a little, an odd sensation for a man who usually kept himself to himself unless he was leading a battalion in a war or fighting for the rights and wishes of his clan.... it was probably because of them that he would forever be doomed. Stuck in a loveless marriage that showed no signs of ever getting better. He actually growled down the phone, his thoughts wandering from the original question. "I'm fine." He eventually spat out. Needing a distraction he added, "Keep your eyes and ears open. Anything new contact me immediately. You know what we're looking for." Signs of any movement within the wolves that might indicate betrayal or worst.... war. They wouldn't be caught with their pants down just because they were playing nice at the moment. "Keep an eye on the council too." Again he went to hang up when Taylor made an agitated clicking noise with his tongue. "What?" He hissed down the phone, quickly losing his patience. "Well, it's just a rumour... but we heard that there were some issues after we left last night. Between that human Lillith and some wolf that is an ex-lover of Perstephone. No idea what's going on. Or where they are now though." He frowned, considering it for a moment. Eventually he said a quick, "Thanks. Good bye Taylor." He hung up then, not waiting any longer for more new developments. No, instead he wandered back to the pool to seek out Perstephone, wanted to see if he could lightly question her and see if she knew anything. It was wrong, he knew it, but he wasn't actually expecting to get anything out of her unless he pushed her to the point where she would explode and rant and accidently say something... was that his plan? Probably. Anything for him to take the advantage, a moments extra warning... well, he would grasp it with both hands and fangs! Of course, when he returned she wasn't swimming, wasn't in the hot tub or the sauna or the shower.... but they were all still on! Where the hell was she? Suddenly he wondered if someone had come and took her...that human and wolf perhaps.... took her from under his nose? He growled in anger, storming over to the control and turning everything off before he went in search of her. Nothing indicated that there had been anyone else had been there...... which meant.... she left him? His hands fisted, even as he started to search the rest of the house... he had to make sure she wasn't here, had already noticed that those ridiculous excuse for 'shorts' were gone. Twenty minutes of checking and double checking came up empty until eventually he found himself wandering back towards the kitchen.... sh*t! What was he meant to do now? She had left? Where the hell did she go? The council would hate him... but worst... Leigo... he would likely exterminate his clan over this. The smell of blood hit him. His eyes flashing liquid red as he followed it, preditorial grace swishing in his movements as he hunted.... what he saw was the last thing he would have expected... Perstephone! Clawed marks upon her chest and side, blood down her shoulder and arm. She didn't look good.... he rushed towards her, even as his fangs automatically lengthened. What the hell had happened? He opened his mouth, about to ask just that when she groaned out his name. What she said next made his eyes narrow and his blood go cold. She was shot by Bret with silver? Bret... was he a vampire? No, Kai didn't think he was, something seemed familiar, something about him from her pack... right? Maybe. He didn't know, couldn't think with all the blood... and then that kiss.... he was knocked completely off guard, his arms wrapping around her even as she started to fall to her knees. Kai blinked... Perstephone had come back here to ask for his help, even though she had no idea if he would even help her or not? He didn't know what to make of that, his lips still swollen from her kiss and his mind a little delirious. He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he used his other arm to lower her to the ground. He was running out of time. Hesitating no longer he moved her so he could bite directly over her bullet wound, thankful that the bullet wasn't still in her, his teeth clamping down hard and fast before he started to draw the blood into his mouth. He could taste the silver.... not a lot, the concentration not as high as he would have expected... then again, now that he thought about it, the amount in his ring had to be very little yet it was meant to kill her if he had to....? Who would have thought such little silver could effect werewolves so harshly? The silver slowly started to work its way through his system, doing nothing more than circling harmlessly around inside of him. It took more blood than he would have guessed but eventually he stopped tasting the silver. Good. He hoped that was it. He pulled back, licking the wounds to seal them before licking his lips....her body still tasted like chlorine and... sweat? Had she been running? He shook his head, not wanting to think about that right now... or about that scorching kiss. No, instead he picked her up like she was just a rag doll and carried her upstairs, cradled in his arms. He knew he hadn't taken too much blood, but he hoped she wouldn't stay out for too long, how long would the silver ruin her system...? Kai didn't exactly have any experience in this area though, usually he was the one using silver to poison them. Kicking open the bedroom door, something he didn't want to admit actually felt strangely liberating, he took her to the bed and lay her down. Wandering to the bathroom he brought back a bowl of cool water and a few wash clothes, soaking them all and wringing them out before folding one onto her forehead, with the other he started to clean up the blood on her body. He frowned... some of these wounds were deep. He could see all her scars. Had to wonder how she got them..... were they all fights with vampires? Or more internal fights like this one? After all... this was definitely a wolf claw mark, he had seen enough to know. While he tended to her he spoke soft nothings. Rambling really, just needing to breaking the silence. "What am I going to do with you Perstephone? You shouldn't have gone alone.... " He frowned, silently pleased that she couldn't hear him. "If you had asked I would have taken you anywhere you wanted to go..... ! But look at this, your injured and I could do nothing to protect you. I am meant to protect you you know... and I know that's not just because of the time I was brought up in. You might think I am ancient. Might think that I am unreasonable and heartless." He rung out the clothe and started the slow and meticulous wash of tender pinkened flesh. "You're wrong." He whispered before continuing with a resigned sigh, "I've got my work cut out for me, huh? You're not exactly what I had expected.... of course, I had no idea what to expect...." he growled. Really not sure what he was getting himself into he just looked at her. Her strange blond hair and skin much more tanned than his. He sat back, suddenly exhausted though strangely exhilarated as her blood bounced around his blood stream, he leaned back and looked up at the ceiling mumbling a last... "I'm doomed."

Perstephone felt as though someone was sliding needles through her arteries, setting fire to her nerves as her mind faded in and out of consciousness. She could feel the silver spreading, leaving an agonizing torment in its wake. As she fought to keep back a scream of pure terror, she realized that for once, she wasn't sure of what would happen. Despite her adventurous nature, everything had always been so... certain with her. She may have not been the most thoughtful planner, but in her defense, premeditating her actions always seemed to lead to the same end result: either she'd go to bed with a few scratches, or she'd take another trip to the Peace Court. This, however, was unlike anything she'd ever expected. Pain? Sure. Another lecture? Of course! But not the prospect of... death... As she felt Kai shift her onto the ground, she realized that he was preparing for one of three things. Either he was going to seize his chance and drink her dry (which was quite likely considering the state she was in), or he'd be simply content to let the silver go its natural course through her body, killing her within the hour despite any of her attempts to save herself, or... The last possibility seemed almost foreign in concept, and yet, it was the one Steffi was hoping for the most. The idea of a Vampire drinking her blood was less than unappealing, but Steffi reminded herself that, should Kai choose to indulge her ultimatum, he'd be saving her life in the process. Suddenly, she was hit with a searing wave of pain as Kai plunged his fangs into her skin. To any normal human, the sensation would have remained unnoticed... one of the reasons vampires had remained undetected for so long, but to Steffi it was like that very spot was being branded with a glowing hot iron. She let out an angry, vocal growl as she refrained from cursing; having never amputated a limb, Steffi couldn't quite compare, but she was sure this was what it must have felt like... unfortunately, unlike in the times of the Great Expansion, she didn't have a bottle of whiskey to dull the pain. So she chose the next best thing... Biting her lip, she remembered the kiss, and as the silver in her blood began to flow home to its source, she felt the pain of the bite dulling as well. In fact, her entire body seemed to dull the longer Kai did what he was created to do, so that by the time he was finished and began to seal her wounds, she could do absolutely nothing to resist him. Perfectly capable of licking her own wounds, she would have told him such had she not been so deceivingly weak... so she allowed him to carry her. Once. In spite of her initial resistance, she leaned against him limply, unable to do anything else in her partial consciousness as they entered the bedroom. Half-expecting him to sit her up in a chair -- after all, that's how werewolves treated their wounded -- she was a little surprised to feel the soft, tell-tale springs of a mattress against her back. She sensed Kai withdrawing from her side for a moment, and, not daring to open her eyes to follow his path, Steffi remained still for the time being, waiting, until he returned. She heard water, then felt something cool and fresh on her forehead... a wet cloth. Her face pressed against the cool linen as her body slowly began to reawaken, the sensation of Kai carefully cleaning her skin of blood and other grime filled her with a strange sense of indecision. Was this the same Kai who had purred her name out so seductively only a day before? The same one who had called her his 'property', his wife? In a sense, she was his property, and the more she thought about it, the more it made sense that he wanted to keep her from being damaged... after all, a damaged object is far less valuable than one in an ideal condition. She felt a slight pang of bitterness, but it faded when she felt his gentle touch on her chest, carefully cleaning the are around where she'd been cut. He seemed almost hesitant, like he was thinking... about her other wounds? Likely. But he'd never truly know where they came from, since not all of them had stories worth remembering. Maybe one day... Steffi's thoughts stopped short as she felt her inner wolf rise up with a vengeance. What on earth was she thinking?? Kai was a vampire, they weren't capable of gentility, or humility, or anything that wasn't pure selfishness, desire, and greed! They were demons, disgusting creatures that lived off of the lives of others to survive! One incident of what was most likely done out of pure self-preservation didn't mean that Kai was anywhere near as emotionally capable as Steffi was beginning to think! "What am I going to do with you, Perstephone? You shouldn't have gone alone..." There it was, his voice again. What was he talking about? Protection? Guidance? Words that should have meant nothing to her coming from a Bloody, but which struck Steffi's heart nonetheless. Of course. No matter how low she already stood in the favor of the vampires simply for existing, here was yet another that she'd managed to disappoint... one that hadn't any faith in her to begin with. Genius! Only a true artist could achieve such low standing in the view of another. Not knowing what to expect... yes, Perstephone knew the feeling all too well. She hadn't been expecting her sister to be so easily influenced by Bret... or for her father to let it happen the way it did... it near broke the heart she'd told herself for years she didn't have. "I'm doomed..." Those were the final words he said, and Steffi found that she was finally fed up. Her body now fully awake, she sat up slowly, stretching her arms overhead with a loud yawn and flinching when she realized that her side had taken a pretty hefty hit as well. "Speak for yourself," she said, rubbing her eyes as though her little fainting spell had been nothing more than a midday siesta. Leaning forward to touch her toes, she added, "I, for one, feel like a weight's finally been taken off my shoulders... I've been wanting to kill Bret for a while now, and now he's finally given me an excuse." Sighing, she folded one arm behind her head and used the other to chase the neat row of freshly healed gashes on her chest as she leaned back against the headboard. "At least he was neater this time... not like the ones on my side. Had to get stitches, can you believe it? A werewolf with stitches! It almost makes you wanna laugh. But... I guess that's what you get for falling for the wrong guy." There, she'd said it. She'd put it out there. Sitting up with a groan, she slid her bare legs off of the bed and sat there, sinking her face into her hands with a groan. "This kind of sh*t always happens to me," she grumbled. She stood up, throwing her hands in the air in frustration as she prepared for another one of her signature rants. "Be mine, he says! I'll give you the world, he says! He'll never love you like I will, he says!! So what does my idiot-a** do? I leave the one man who might actually have been good for me... and it ends me up here!" She strode angrily over to the window, looking over the still landscape, the distant skyline, hidden beneath the curve of the hill on which the house sat, the cloudy gray sky, and the faint silhouette of the daytime moon as it floated, near invisible behind a cloud. Folding her arms tensely across her chest, she said, "I should've stayed in Portland. I should've just stayed there and stopped turning until I finally grew old and died like a normal person. But no. Daddy had to show up and ruin everything..." She shook her head. What was she talking about? Was she insane?? She loved her father more than anything! But... it had taken a few years for that relationship to solidify. And once it did, Steffi's life was wiped out. "The first time I faced a Bloody was two weeks after I found out I was a werewolf," she said quietly. Why she was divulging this information was a mystery to her, but now that she'd started, there was really no way she'd be able to stop herself. Shaking her head as her hand nostalgically traced the scar on the back of her neck, she said, "He was a young one, young and dumb... but so was I. I didn't know anything, except this: the minute I looked at him, I hated him more than I've ever hated anything in my life. Those red eyes, that white skin, that reek... I couldn't brook it. And then he came at me, and we tumbled for almost ten minutes. Stupid, huh?" She sighed, looked almost frail as she lowered her hand again and stared out across the sky, her fingers fiddling with the ring she held there. "But... I didn't kill him. I couldn't."Turning away from the window in disgust, she rammed her fist into the adjacent wall, although not quite hard enough to leave a dent. "I faced dozens of those f*ckers after that... but... I never killed a single one." She looked up at the ceiling as tears began to blur her eyes. "... until I met Tristan Frost." She shook her head to clear it as emotions began to thicken her voice. "... reckon you've heard of him. He was pretty big about fifteen years ago. Mechanics or something. Lillith was just a baby, and Fex and I were taking her up to Ontario to visit her human cousins... some... little thing... a get-together for a month or so..." She stopped, covering her hand with her face as she swallowed. "Most beautiful creature I've ever seen," she said quietly. "Black hair, like you... tall... kind... a real gentleman... guess that's what you guys are like, but I didn't know a thing back then. Fex told me to watch for trouble... but then..." Righting herself, she seemed to regain her usual candor as she flicked her wrist and said, "I don't know how he did it, but I'm not gonna lie... Frost took my breath away for a few weeks. Restaurants, shows, walks, the whole couple thing... and then... they jumped us." Her eyes seemed to grow distant for a minute before coming back into focus. "Bret showed up outta nowhere, him and some of his buddies, and saved me and Lillith. I found out Frost was behind him, and got so pissed I split his neck open. And I guess, between me 'n Bret... well, the rest is history, ain't it?"Putting her hands on her hips as her brassiness returned, she pointed at Kai and said with a scowl, "Point being, you've earned yourself a favor from me. So... don't waste it on sex, like Bret did." She smirked, heading for the door. "... as tempted as you might be," she added. Her gait was still a slight hobble, but she could feel her rapid healing kicking in as she glanced at the clock on the side wall. Her eyes widened suddenly. "Sh*t!" she shouted, near stumbling as she rushed towards the stairs. "I'm late for work!!" Suddenly, she stopped, looking back at Kai with a frown. "Which I am going to, by the way, so you can either pipe down or saddle up, cuz I need to be inland in an hour."

"Speak for yourself" He looked over at her, slipping back into his stoic nonchalance as he sat up straight and acted as if he hadn't just uttered a word. She was alive? Good. He tried to tell himself that it was good simply because he wouldn't be held accountable for her death, that it was simply part of the transaction between them that had been agreed upon. Still, his eyes darted for a moment to the spot he had bitten, the memory of her blood still coursed through his veins, a heady concoction of hatred and lust and possessiveness that nearly had him acting outside of his expected behaviour. He stood up, straightened himself out with fluid movements even as he listened to rant. She spoke so openly about killing Bret that it actually had him frowning, so much so that he wasn't sure what possessed him to actually comment. "You should not act so rashly, death can be delivered at any moment but life can never be returned." A truth he had learnt the hard way. Still he looked away from her, even as she groaned and tried to sit up. He glanced momentarily over his shoulder, telling himself it was not to check that she was ok but to ensure she didn't stab him in the back. "This kind of sh*t always happens to me." His eyes flashed liquid red for a moment, betraying a burst of emotion even as he kept his voice and expression flat. "Indeed." Of course, the moment she started ranting on about someone telling her to 'Be mine', this 'Bret' he assumed, he couldn't bring himself to continue look at her, instead he turned away once more and straightened up some of his pillows and furniture, not that it was actually messy. Quite the opposite. The way she spat out the words 'good for me' and 'here' had him wincing slightly, even as he heard heavy footfalls and knew they were headed towards the window. He turned then, crossed his arms and just watch her, something that could be described as anger flashing across his eyes. Did she really think that Kai wanted to hear any of this? That she was simply the only one who was suffering or forced to do anything? Well, she was wrong, acting like nothing more than a spoilt brat who had had their favourite toy taken away from them. Selfishly thinking that she was the only one suffering. There was a bigger picture in play here, and it seemed that Perstephone was completely blind or ignorant to it. A child. A fact that was fast grating across Kai's nerves, mixing with the confusion he already felt. The desire to growl was building and it was a miracle that he remained completely silent as she continued with her little tirade. As Perstephone described the first Vampire she had encountered his eyes narrowed. Red eyes, white skin and the reek? Did she have a death wish? Was this her way of insulting Kai while not mentioning him directly? Kai could so easily kill her, she was far from her strongest right now... especially since she was weak from her loss of blood and injuries, the threat of silver. It wouldn't even be a chore to destroy such a vile mouthed creature.... of course the moment such thoughts floated to the surface they were joined with memories of those two kisses, of holding her slight form, of the fear he had felt at the blood and silver.... of course he was snapped from his thoughts when she admitted that she hadn't been able to kill the vampire. Why? Very few werewolves showed mercy. Very few vampires conceded. They were as bad as one another in that regard. Mostly, at least. "Tristan?" Kai and Tristan had run in different circles but he was more than aware of the lady killer. He used his charm to lure and bait, but from what Kai had heard on the web of rumour he had fallen before he fell to his death.... was Perstephone responsible for that? And why did that idea irritate him so much? His eyes narrowed as she continued to talk. He didn't like her saying that Tristan was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen, liked it even less when he suddenly he found himself being compared to him. Black hair? Was the only comparison between them? Was Kai suddenly unfit to be an equal to a dead man? Of course he found his thoughts stupid when she spoke once more after a brief pause. "Guess that's what you guys are like." "I guess so." He said under his breath, revulsion obvious in his tone, even as he didn't really commit to the words, his arms shifted until they were crossed the opposite way over his chest. His body language anything but open and accepting. So, Perstephone had had a voluntary relationship with a vampire... but she couldn't even stand to look at Kai? Was he so lacking in her eyes? And why the hell did he even care! She was his wife, end of conversation. A marriage of convince. He quirked a brow at her next words. He hadn't been expecting them. "Point being, you've earned yourself a favour from me. So.... don't waste it on sex, like Bret did." He supposed it was a little tempting to do just that, especially with the idea planted in his head, but he knew he would eventually get her into bed... had to after all, to consummate the marriage and all that business. Still, he suddenly wondered if charming her into bed would leave him forever compared with Tristan? It was hard to compete with a ghost, especially a ghost who had in the end betrayed her. "Acknowledged." He said dryly, even as his red eyes watched her heading for the door. She was wobbling, looked weak to Kai's eyes, and the desire to rush to her side and hold her up, to silently offer support while she regained her footing was almost too much to bare. He fisted one of his hands and just watched her, at least until her attitude changed and she started rushing. "Careful!" He cautioned, even as he found himself following her Work? Was she crazy? He actually did growl this time. "Work? Are you insane?" His words closely echoed his thoughts, and his frustration at continuously being overlooked and overruled was unsettling and annoying, no one in the vampire world ignored him... not even Leigo. Then there was the contract to consider. This she-wolf seemed to not care at all about it while Kai had accepted it as the law to govern his life by for the time being, he was being left with an unfair advantage. He didn't like that. Still he found himself following her, noting lightly as he moved that there was blood on his shirt. Not thinking about it he started to undo the buttons to remove it. "The agreement is that I will support you. You do not need to work. Plus... you have just been injured, poisoned with silver, nearly died, and you expect me to..." He copied her words and even attempted her accent, surprising himself by showing a high proficiency for it... obviously he had lived too long and changed his way of speaking too often to be phased by it now.... "either pipe down or saddle up." He removed his shirt and tossed it over the bannister for later, the muscles of his chest nearly flawless except for a rather jaggered scar that marred the pale flesh. Stretching from his left pectoral to his right side. The blow that had killed him. His back had more scars, older scars, but they were smaller, single entry wounds. Kai could still remember how he had received each one, the way his body burnt under the sting of steel, the way he had fought back, unable to accept that now would be the day he would die.... The only evidence of his human life that really remained, all the items and artefacts had been cruelly taken from him long ago. He wandered to a cupboard that pulled out one spare shirts he kept there.... after all, he sometimes did have to dress in a hurry for guests or hide blood or worst from his attire. Always the image of perfection. He slipped it on, not at all worried about what Perstephone thought or wanted, even as he did up the buttons and turned to face her. His expression cold for a moment as he took her in. "Fine. I will let you go to work... but..." And Kai wouldn't shift from this point, "You will eat first, ensure that you eat vegetables and meat high in iron to replace what you have lost. Understood? Weak is dead. I will not see you dead." The way he said it might simply have been as someone who didn't want the hassle that came with Perstephone's death, but there was also something that flashed so quickly through his eyes that it was easy to miss, there for less than a heartbeat. The law laid he went about his business with efficiency, grabbed his wallet and keys and then noticed the envelop that Taylor had given him a few days ago. He picked it up and tossed it to Perstephone. Inside it was her new 'married' ID. Since Kai was currently going by the name 'Cooper' so would Perstephone, the ID matching all of her current details except for the change of address and name. He had also order her a bank card for his account but would not reveal its location or existence until he felt as if he could trust her more, it was locked in a vault that even Perstephone would never crack, let alone find. "Come." He ordered, already making his way to the car without so much as a backwards glance, without even seeing her reaction to his 'gift'. Gentleness was not something he was going for right now, his mind in chaos, a chaos he wanted to blame solely on her blood but was not fool enough to do so. "So, what is it that you do?" He glanced at her for a moment, seriousness lighting his features. "For if it is something indecent like prostitution or stripping I shall be dragging you back into the house without a moments hesitation. You do not need to do such things to survive here." The idea alone actually made him sick, and he knew it was greedy possession of a vampire wanting to claim his bribe that was riding him hard. The idea of her doing such things for others enjoyment was wrong on so many levels. Still, he knew that she held no bond with him, wanted nothing to do with him in the grand scheme of things. Kai was simply deluding himself. The words Bret had told him on his wedding day came back to haunt him, the prediction that in less than a week she would once again return to the wolf -or another wolf- to gain her sexual gratification. In the car he found himself asking the last thing he ever predicted he would, "What do you know of me Perstephone?" He knew there where stories and legends about him, not all true either considering how time had twisted and warped them... history, after all, was always wrote by the victors and the vampires had used him as a status symbol and an icon to drive back the werewolves in fear. He had never cared before but had to wonder how much Perstephone knew.... he was not fool enough to believe she had heard anything of the internal affairs of the vampires, the things that he had done for his clan and the true reason why he was now stuck in a loveless marriage with a bride who clearly wanted nothing to do with him.... when had he started to want more? To want the impossible? From the start perhaps? Had he always help a hope along side his hatred? An idea formed, he had a boon from her did he not? Perhaps he should ask for the chance to court her properly? Or would she consider such an idea too archaic? MitashiUchiha16 I forgot where she worked. Sorry. Ill + headaches + no sleep = poor memory. Haha.

Syaoran-Puu Here's where she works, although the color scheme is geared less towards pink and more towards grays and black and burgundies ^-^ Notes on the video: for the rehearsal, she's the one in the white tank top and the black leggings. For the actual performance, she's the one with the straight blond hair (or curled hair, whichever haha) Steffi could barely hear Kai's warning about being careful as she almost tripped into the living room where her suitcase was still standing. She knew at one point she'd have to unpack, but right now, getting her things together for work was much more important. She tore through her suitcases, flinging clothing and items all over the place and generally making a complete mess as she pulled out a folded up gym bag and opened it up. Grabbing a pair of sneakers, a gigantic pair of headphones and an mp3 player, a make-up bag, and various accessories for her hair, she tossed the items together and slammed her bag onto the couch with a frustrated sigh as Kai found it fit to chide her. "I'm fine," she said quickly, blowing a strand of hair out of her eyes as she continued to rummage through her bag for her valuables. "This isn't the first time this has happened to me... and, since I can still walk and my vocal cords are still working, I don't think a few claw marks should be a problem... besides, it's not like anyone's gonna see them..." ... yet, she added as a mental afterthought as she zipped up her bag and headed out into the hallway, plopping it near the door and not even bothering to put away her things. She slyly noted that Kai was beginning to undress, and against her better judgement, she spied at him out of the corner of her eye while his back was turned. Huh... not bad. It's not Bret, but... No, she was not attracted to him, at least not while she was sane, but she wasn't a priss; she could offer credit where it was due, although she wasn't too fascinated to miss that there was large, very fatal-looking slash across his upper body that stood out against the dim kitchen light. Shaking her head and turning away as he pulled out a shirt, she thought, Of course he keeps a shirt in the cupboard. ALL Bloodies keep their shirts in cupboards... Her mental tone was beyond sarcastic as she stretched, wincing at the pain in her side and wondering if perhaps Kai was right and she should take a break... pah, as if! Even if it killed her, she'd never give the right of way to a Bloody. She pulled on a black tank top over her bikini, keeping on her dog tags and her short shorts as she headed over to the kitchen, rolling her eyes as Kai basically commanded her to eat. But, of course, she wouldn't give him a reason to snap at her, so she just smiled with mock sweetness and saw, "Aw, Kai... you do care!" She was obviously mocking him, since she doubted there was anything caring about wanting to maintain a piece of property, but she queued for the refrigerator regardless, opening it to see if she could find something that would match her husband's criteria. Pulling out a head of iceberg lettuce and a slab of raw meat Kai had obviously intended for her to cook, she scooted up onto the counter and crossed her legs as she took a monstrous bite right out of the head of lettuce, following suit with the steak. "Mamf... urp... you know," she said, smacking her food obnoxiously as she sunk her teeth into the uncooked steak, "This wouldn't... mamf... be a problem if you just... urp... let me hunt..." As if to prove her point, she shoved the rest of the food into her mouth, making a horrible -- yet concisely confined -- mess of herself. Polishing off the last of her head of lettuce (which she'd consumed in the amazingly short time of about a minute), she trotted over to the sink and cleaned off her face and her hands, returning to her usual smooth and radiant form in a matter of moments. Kai would be appalled at the grotesque display, of course, but Perstephone was a wolf, and it was a well-known fact that wolves who were in a rush had absolutely no table manners. She caught the envelope in her wet fingers without a flinch, her reflexes as concise as those of an animal as she tore apart the paper with her teeth and looked inside. Pulling out the ID card, she frowned at her ID picture (did they have to use that one??) and frowned even more when she saw the name there. She scowled. Perstephone Cooper? Ugh, that is BEYOND lame... Looking up, she noted Kai dressing himself in a long coat, a hat, sunglasses, and gloves... covering her mouth, Steffi snorted. "Cold?" she teased as she sashayed past him, knowing that he certainly shouldn't be cold enough to don that many clothes in the middle of August. She knew the reason, of course; he didn't have to remind her that Bloodies were wary of sunlight. Looking out across the driveway, she noticed at that some point, Kai had activated the roof of the convertible, and now the shining red car had a darkened hood and deeply tinted windows... a fact that only seemed to amuse her more as she laughed, heading gaily down the driveway after slipping on a pair of cheap black flip-flops. She didn't even comment on Kai's order to come... honestly, she couldn't care less about him. The air was fresh and she wasn't tracking an uninviting scent, so for a moment she just stood there, relishing in the sun with her eyes closed, arms out and a broad smile on her face, knowing that in an hour she'd be once again confined to a windowless cabaret club... however high-end it may have been. Once they were in the car, Kai felt safe enough to at least take off his hat and sunglasses, although he still seemed as distant as ever when he questioned Perstephone on her knowledge of him. "Not much," she replied coolly, her blue eyes reflecting icily in the dim light as she flicked her eyes in his direction. "At least... not much that I believe, anyways..." She yawned, stretching her arms over her head and noting that the pain in her side seemed to be getting better, thanks to her rapid healing abilities. "I'm not gonna say they didn't warn me, 'cause they did," she continued. "They told me that you were strong... evil, narrow-minded... that you were a monster, a demon, some kinda creature from hell." She began to laugh bitterly. "To think Gilda hated me enough to pair me up with someone like that, but... ya know... I never believed the rumors anyways. And lo and behold, you're just a big pushover!" She giggled, pointing at him. "You can't even handle a little bit of sunlight! And you know what?" she added, settling back into her seat with her arms crossed as she shrugged. "I'm not scared of you," she said matter-of-factly. "Not even a little bit. 'Cause what it boils down to, Kai, is that you're just another vampire who's worked himself to the top. No shame in that... but that doesn't make you scary. Sure, you've squashed some of mine, but..." Her eyes narrowed at him. "... I've squashed some of yours, too." She sighed, seeming rather bored with the whole thing as she said, "I'm the kind of girl who only gives respect to those who earn it... and everyone knows that about me. So don't expect me to be all... quivery and wimpy just 'cause you have everyone else's respect. I don't roll that way... best you'd get used to it."Steffi's eyes widened at Kai's assumption about her job. Banging her fist angrily into the dashboard, she said, "I'm not a stripper!!", with perhaps a little more vehemence than she'd intended. Her eyes widening slightly at her sudden outburst, she took a deep breath to calm herself before replying, "I prefer to think of myself as a... contemporary cabaret dancer. Who keeps her clothes on," she added, shooting a glare in Kai's direction. Grumbling, she settled back into her seat and crossed her arms. "Prostitution," she huffed petulantly. "Bah! Next thing you know, he'll be asking me if I have a mating call..."They drove the rest of the way in relative silence, with Perstephone cutting in occasionally to give directions to her work place... she didn't know if Kai was familiar with the Baxter Club -- he should've been; it was a high-end establishment, after all -- but just to make sure he wouldn't take her back home prematurely, she didn't say where they were going until they finally got there. Any protests Kai may have issued were met with stubborn silence as she retrieved her things from the car and headed inside. Immediately, she was approached by a middle-aged Arab who looked at her with a disapproving frown. "You're late," he said. "What's your excuse this time?""Marital issues," Steffi answered smoothly, grabbing Kai's arms and drawing him forward. "Christian, this is my husband, Kai. He'll be staying here and watching the rehearsal and the performance. Make sure he's... well attended to." Christian was human, that much was clear, but the tone of voice Steffi used at the end of her sentence brought about a dawning of realization on his face, soon followed with a slow nod. "That's... interesting," he said after a moment's pause, looking down at Steffi's tight-lipped frown. From his answer, it was unclear just how much he knew about the situation, but what was apparent was the fact that he was well aware of who -- or rather what -- Kai was. He looked at Steffi. "Er... yes. I think we... we have something for him. Over by the bar. B-but you should hurry up and get to rehearsal. You know... before the girls get their chance with... him...""Oh don't worry, he's real cultured," Steffi replied casually, flipping her hair. "He won't bi-- er, he'll behave." She corrected herself quickly as they were approached by another, slender looking young brunette with long waves and piercing green eyes. About the same build as Perstephone -- although not nearly as marred -- it was clear that she was also human... but behind her eyes was a sort of mischief of near vampiric intent. Even her soft gait, her subtle glances, and her sharp beauty... it was a vague reminder of Emilea, and from the way Perstephone stiffened at her approach, it was clear that her opinion of her was the same. Giving them both the once-over as Christian turned to leave, she put her hands on her hips and smirked. "Honestly, I thought they were lying when they said you got married..." she purred, licking her lips in Kai's direction. "Too bad, really... there goes another one, wasted on an ingrate like you. Tsk tsk... although I must say, I never thought you would want to become a familiar..."Can it, Nexus," Steffi growled, baring her fangs. "I'm not a familiar, and I never will be!! Everyone knows that's your job." Nexus frowned, letting her hands fall at her side as she glared at Steffi. "Watch yourself, Perstephone," she hissed quietly. "One day I'll find someone to turn me, and then it'll only be a matter of time before I come looking for you..." With a huff, Nexus turned away, and Steffi grit her teeth. "I'll be waiting," she breathed, turning back to Kai and pointing over her shoulder where Nexus was busy flirting with the bartender. "I'll forgive you if you drain her," she said simply, slinging her bag over her shoulder as music began to play in the background. Sighing, she said to him, "Look... I know you're not stupid enough to cop a sip from any of the chicks here, but... just in case... remember that I'll be on that stage for the next six hours, so... watch yourself. I'll protect my friends if I have to. Except Nexus," she added with a smirk before heading over to the stage to rehearse. TIME SKIP TO THAT EVENING"Steffi... are you sure you can do this?" one of the other dancers asked. Tightening the strings on her leather corset while her friend dabbed some concealer on the red marks on her chest, Steffi frowned. "I'm fine, geez," she said as the hair stylist added the finishing touches to her hairdo. "I can dance, don't even worry about it. Rehearsal went beautifully... I don't even know what you guys are worried about!" The girls stepped back, offering her a skeptical glance. Steffi raised an eyebrow questioningly and asked, "You're worried about him? He won't do anything to me, how could he? It's not like I'm doing anything wrong." She stood, feeling rather magnificent in her over-knee black leather boots as she lingered by the curtain. The lights were dim, and she could sense the heightened anticipation of the audience as Christian stepped out to announce their performance. This was it. This was what Steffi lived for. The rush, the beauty, the raw desire that radiated off of the men when they saw her. Even now, she could hear their hushed whispers as they waited with baited breath for the beautiful girls who'd be entertaining them that night... Steffi wasn't the lead -- that was Nexus -- but she was by far the most popular simply because of the way she loved her own body as she danced. She had no qualms, no inhibitions when she stepped out onto that stage, and it showed in her fluid movements, her subtle glances, the way she sighed as she ran her hands over her hips and whipped her hair around. She was an animal in the truest sense of the word... and as little as she knew Kai would approve, there was no denying that no job would have better suited who she was. She wouldn't touch the men -- those days were over -- but she'd toy with them, lead them on to disappointment... a notion that somehow pleased her even more since she no longer had the obligation to follow through. "You heard Steffi got hitched last night?! "The blond one? No way, not a chance! Who'd wanna marry HER?? Good God, man, look at her! Who wouldn't??"Steffi smiled to herself, drawing into position as Christian's charismatic voice boomed over the speakers. "And now, back by popular demand, our charming LiteNite Dancers performing 'Flashback'... for your personal viewing pleasure..." Closing her eyes as the curtain began to rise, Steffi took a deep breath, feeding off of the roar of the audience as she heard a few enthusiasts call out her name into the darkness. Tuning out nothing but the feeling of Kai's glowing eyes on her back, she took the first step, and began to dance.

"This isn't the first time this has happened to me..." He turned to her for a moment and sighed even though his eyes continued to shine with a strength and obvious loathing for the situation. "Do not remind me." He said sternly, maybe more so than he had originally anticipated. He supposed he should be thankful that at least the marks wouldn't be displayed, not that anyone who knew what he was would try to claim that he had done them... instead they might wonder what he had done to drive Perstephone to do it to herself. Which was a much worst outcome in his mind. Kai ignored the mocking tone, perhaps he did care, perhaps not, either way he would not argue about this now, especially since she did in fact seem to be willing to follow through on his order on this, and actually get some food. His disappeared only to come back and see her stuff raw meet and lettuce into her mouth, the expression on her face reeked of defiance and dare, and perhaps in any other circumstance he would have rose to the bait.... instead, he simply walked to her side, purposefully slid his finger over her lip to steal some of the meat that still hung clumsily there and brought it to his mouth, a wicked smirk upon his face, as he licked it from his finger and sucked almost delicately and appreciatively on his own finger. "Delicious. Good choice. Seems you do not need to hunt after all." With that he turned away and prepared to go out into the sun. The truth was he could tolerate the sun for longer than younger vampires, but that didn't mean he needed to display that fact, instead he simply played along. Coat, hat, gloves and shades. Most of his pale flesh covered, he marched to the car with elegant grace, clicking the button to bring up the roof and waited for his wife so he could open the door for her. Habit, chivalry whatever you wished to call it didn't matter, all that did was that it was practically inbreed into him. Nothing Perstephone said would change that fact. "Cold?" He rolled his eyes at the question when her back was to him but said nothing, she knew full well why he wore so many layers, and the weather had nothing to do with it. No, Kai was rather comfortable in the cold, more so than Perstephone if her reaction to the pool temperature was anything to go by. It was clear from her words that she knew very little about him, though he had to smirk at the thought of Gilda calling him evil and narrow-minded considering what he had done to help her last spring. Not that he would mention that now, and probably never to Perstephone who seemed to hate her so. Push over? He rolled his eyes again and huffed a little. She might have a point, but that was simply because Kai was playing the long game. A risk, and a dangerous one at that, but one that might pay off if he played it right. "You should take your own advice Perstephone, do not pretend to know me just because of your misconceptions of my kind and of me.... and I do not automatically offer my trust or respect either, both things you are highly lacking in currently. As you can see... I am only playing nice." He glanced her way, his red eyes narrowing ever so slightly as if to make a point before he watched the road once more. "You can pretend all you like that you are this big bad wolf... but right now, your tirades and whining sound more like a petulant child." After all, she ranted, raved and simply expected Kai to do as she wanted, to always bend to her will, to let her always have her way without anything in return. She didn't look past herself, her selfishness seemed to have no limits, and despite the fact he had helped her even when he didn't have to, there seemed to be no sign of acceptance of any kind... not even minute tolerance. If anything, he suspected that things were actually worst. Silence trickled over him as he tucked himself into the car and removed his hat and shades to drive, making easy work of the route under Perstephone's direction, of course the way she spoke about her job had his eyes snapping to her for a moment. Contemporary cabaret dancer? His hands squeezed the steering wheel tighter, the sound of twisting leather almost deafening in his ears. She couldn't be serious? He had been there when Cabaret dances, show girls and the such had all come in an out of fashion. Had unlaced more than his fair share of corsets with his teeth... the very idea that she did that was actually as bad as stripping, worst even. His eyes snapped back to the road, a desperate attempt to distract himself given the turbulence of what he was thinking. Was it too much to hope that she was simply messing with him? God he hoped so.... but for some reason he knew that was too much to hope for. As they got closer and closer to the destination realisation dawned. The Baxter Club. Not a place he frequented regularly, but he had come to drag a member or two of his clan back in the past, had even broken up his fair share of vampire fights... in fact, his number was stored in the vault for just such 'emergencies'. Of course, he had never spied Perstephone here before... though perhaps that was simply because his eyes had never strayed from the objective at hand, his focus unwavering when he wanted it to be so. Donning his hat and shades once more he parked up and followed her in, crossing his arms and glaring at the human who questioned Perstephone with far too much familiarity for his liking. He didn't recognise the man, so at least that worked in the guys favour, but still... This Christian was now on his watch list, something he suspected would grow exponentially given where they were, one night and he would have a mile long kill list! He was going to hate every second of this, and was already regretting his decision to come here, to bring her! As Perstephone continued to speak, and in some mild way almost defend him by saying that he wouldn't bite anyone, though he assumed her he's real cultured was actually an attack more than a defence, he simply remained silent and removed his hat and glasses, his nimble fingers already undoing his coat before he slipped off one and then two of his gloves to stuff them into his pocket. He flashed his fangs ever so slightly and simply said, "Yes. You have my word that I shall... behave." For whatever that was worth. The human female held little to none of his interest, his eyes giving her a quick once over before he looked to Perstephone instead. He wasn't sure what a familiar was, and something told him he really didn't want to... but he would ask later all the same if an opportunity arose. When the human started to threaten Perstephone with coming after her he found himself subtly moving to stand behind her, a silent threat and a promise of retribution and destruction to anyone who might try, the venom clearly directed at Nexus... of course the moment Nexus left he silently stepped back and pretended to oggle the place instead of paying any attention to what his wife might be doing or saying. Her words earned her a tilted look that simply said Please, as if I would disgrace myself with something like her. But he didn't comment on that, simply pushed forward with the conversation. "Watch myself? Perstephone, I am rarely in the habit of hunting in such a place." He moved close for a moment, his movement fluid and eerily graceful, whispering a quick and hot, "When I do, I like my sources hot and willing." He straightened then, acting unaffected and unashamed of his advance even while he licked his lips playfully and watched as she rushed to where ever it was she was going. Left alone he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, once more looking around, though this time actually seeing the place. The human male seemed to be lingering as if wanting something and so Kai decided to use him... for now at least. "Bring me something special.... and clean. I will know if anything taints it." A simple request. Untouched blood. Some liked to drink 'dirty' blood, that was blood that held a high drug or alcohol content. Neither had ever appealed to Kai, the taste alone made it hard to stomach and the effect was not something he strove for right now when all he needed was a clear head an a steady hand. He wandered towards the bar, not paying Nexus any notice until she seemed to spot him alone and came closer, too close for his liking. He had to admit that she did almost seem like a vampire in human form, but wanna-be's never made good vampires, never lasted past ten. No, he didn't need babies in the war he was fighting.... a war against the system itself. Not that the human seemed to acknowledge his disinterest in her, if anything that seemed to make her display her cleavage to him even more. As if he could be bought by the two mounds of flesh so easily. "He sexy. Why you wasting your time with a whore like Perstephone? You know..." She dared to bring a finger up towards him as she was about to stroke his cheek in invitation, it was the last draw for Kai and without thinking he grabbed her hand and pushed her away, enough pressure to make his point. He didn't harm her though, didn't break anything, simply made it obvious that touching was not allow. "Do not mistake me for someone who will allow you to call my wife a whore and then do as you wish. I do not know or care about what creatures you have come to associate with, but know that I will not tolerate such actions..... nor am I interested in creating a baby." He leaned forward, purposefully allowing the red of his eyes to swirl. "If you are not careful, if you place one finger on my wife out of place...." He smirked, the thing holding no amusement but instead a lethal and deadly purpose. "....I will mark you so that all vampires know that you are never to be touched or converted." A threat that he knew would work on the wanna-be human, it always did. Sure enough she shrunk away from him and disappeared. Still, his eyes noted the scar of a bite upon her flesh.... so, she was a blood pet then? Music caught his attention and he turned to see Perstephone and group of girls setting up on stage. Nexus swiftly joining them. He took a deep breath..... it was going to be a long night. Time Skip At some point he had moved to a table with a central view of the stage, if the rehearsal was anything to go by then he knew he would have to watch his wife like a hawk... or rather, anyone who would dare attempt to touch her. She was his, for now at least, and he wouldn't allow anyone to consider otherwise. Least of all the babble that had gathered here. Several vampires had spotted him, went to say hello before seeing his expression and shrinking away to the darkest corners away from him. As if to escape his attention completely... foolish... anyone under this roof was currently under his surveillance. In his mind he saw it so easily, saw exactly how he would kill everyone in this place before they so much as took a breath to stop him. Dart left. Snap of a neck. Crash of two heads together. Bang. Crash. Snap. Tear. Rip. He could see it. Could smell it. The river of blood until he knelt before Perstephone in offering before dragged her away from this place forever. A simple plan, and one that his sick mind indulged in, revelled in, wanted with a madness that was almost uncontrollable. The conversations that whispered towards him didn't help. At least it seemed that the truth of Perstephone's marriage had reach the cohort here, though he still suspected it wouldn't be enough. The introduction was made, his eyes of glistening anticipating red darting to the stage and finding the back of Perstephone with ease. Her body was different from the other woman, and not just because of the scars she seemed to wear like a badges of honour.... but because of how she held herself. The music started, a boom of noise that irritated his sensitive ears.... but for a moment all he could do was watch as Perstephone came to life on the stage. Her body spinning and twisting with ease, her hair flowing around her like water.... she was a nythm, a spirit who was designed to do just this. As he watched he realised that. Even as he found his attention pulled away from her as several of the punters attempted to touch her, this grated on his nerves, and had she allowed it he likely would have done something he would later regret.... like break their hands while gently reminding them that she was not their's but his..... not that in reality she was his either, after all, she had made it clear that he was nothing more than a 'Bloody' to her. It took him a moment to realise that someone was trying to get his attention on stage, he looked her way for a moment, nothing more than a heartbeat before his attention automatically returned to Perstephone in flat out rejection to Nexus. Perstephone floated towards him, her movements sharp and sexy as she seemed to push Nexus out of the way with a curled and coordinated movement that had her 'partner' reacting on her own and moving to pole. His red eyes were captivated, but only on Perstephone, watching her movements as if they were the only two in the room... before he could stop the impulse his hand reached out, delicate feather light touch ran up her leg before he leaned back and brought the hand to his mouth seductively and licked his fingers. His eyes narrowing in invitation and offering. Not at any point did his eyes leave her, not even when he heard the grumble of the crowd around him. No Perstephone held his full attention in that moment. Completely. Utterly. It was only as the song died down, the applause and wolf whistles rising up, that Kai moved again and clapped. No, Kai didn't like the idea of everyone seeing his wife like that... but he had to admit that she was sexy while she was doing it. He rose, walked around the stage and without listening to the protest of staff he slipped through the edge of the curtain and backstage. If anything they should be thankful he hadn't simply stolen her from the stage and dragged her away like the caveman she believed to him to be. His eyes didn't care or linger on any of the half dressed woman, no, his goal was someone in particular as he marched with purpose towards Perstephone. Boldly he put his hands on her shoulders, gentle massaging little circles into her heated sweaty flesh from behind, while he leaned in to her ear to speak, keeping their conversation private. He assumed that due to their location she wouldn't cause too much of a scene... especially if she wanted to try and convince him to allow her to continue this in the future. "Come. It is time we left." His breath was hot and heavy on her ear, perhaps ticklish if she was sensitive there. The temptation to dart his tongue out and caress the lobe stole his thoughts for a moment before he refocused on his purpose. "You will come with me, or I shall turn into a caveman and toss you over my shoulder and drag you out. Your choice Perstephone." Either way.... he was done sharing for the night in this place.

Nexus was not the kind of girl who took rejection lightly. She was proud of what she could do and she intended to do it everyone... one man in particular, since her little ploy about Perstephone being a whore hadn't worked as well as she had hoped. It angered her slightly to see that Steffi had once again bested her unintentionally... first with the popularity rankings when she wasn't even the lead dancer, and then with that vampire... and she wasn't a familiar? If that wasn't the lie of the century! But since when did Vampires consort with uncultured brutes like Steffi? Surely he must've already met those horrible brothers of hers! Thankfully they went nowhere near the Baxter Club... too good for them, she assumed, but obviously not too good for the rest of their ilk. Perstephone, meanwhile, couldn't even begin to escape the blinding whirl that overtook her as she began to dance. There was only her in the world... goodness, the music was like a drug -- she felt so good! Eyes scanning over the eager men who wanted her, she returned only their gaze as she twirled in front of them, seducing them, teasing them relentlessly as some were even bold enough to reach out and touch her. She stepped away from them as gently as she could, her movements quick and innocent, as though she'd meant it to be that way, her breathing heavy, her skin glistening as she twisted her body into the countless positions she'd practiced... and then she saw him. Sitting there, right in the middle where she'd see him. His comment from before echoed in her mind and she felt something in her heart swell with... was it pride? Pettiness? ... Lust? The last one seemed like the most plausible option but she denied it, knowing that if she accepted the truth she'd never be able to turn back. But so lost was she in the moment that when her turn finally came up, she couldn't stop herself. As she stood, taking her dance solo, she teetered to the front of the stage, blue eyes flashing as her curls bounced over her shoulder. To her pleasant surprise Kai seemed to take the initiative, running his hands over her thigh lightly and drawing back before she could so much as react. But their eyes met, and as the deep bass of the hook droned through the speakers, Steffi decided that he would be the chosen one for the night. While Nexus, and Allie, and Samantha, and all the other dancers did their routines in front of men of their choice, Steffi fell to her knees in front of Kai, running her fingers through her hair with a wicked smile as she rubbed her hands along her sides, twisting, rolling around with her legs in the air... Her movements were almost primitive, overflowing with carnal sexual desire that may have had a chance to exist were she not who she was, and were Kai not who he was. She was opening herself, giving him a taste of what she could really be... an animal, something Nexus -- and every other vampire and familiar in existence -- had lost irretrievably. This was what werewolves had that vampires could never have. Pure, uncontrolled spartanism. The access and means to express the most basic human desires. Secretly, Perstephone knew, it was what everyone on the earth wanted, because it was what she wanted... and what she had never gotten. She leaned in, half-smiling but in a way that seemed almost sad as she reached her hand out to graze his cheek, and for a moment she could feel a powerful urge to surrender herself to him completely. Time slowed to a crawl, and under the lurid glare of his eyes Perstephone felt almost naked, like they were committing 'the act', and all the world was watching... but then, the chorus came back on, she was forced back into her regular routine, and the moment was lost again... for now, she hoped. She left him with a somewhat reluctant wink, blowing a foreshadowing kiss in his direction as she rejoined her fellow dancers to finish their routine. Her body ached, her feet hurt, but she didn't fall or stop. She couldn't. She was enraptured. "Flash-back-back-back...""You little slut..." Nexus hissed behind a fake smile as the dancers took their final position, the last notes of the chorus ringing out over the speakers as the audience jumped to their feet and began to applaud. No reaction came. Face red, Perstephone felt the endorphins of success making their way through her veins as the eager men in the first few rows held out monetary rewards for the spectacular display of lights, leather, and lingerie they'd just witnessed. The curtain continued to fall as Steffi's chest heaved up and down, her hands still in the air until the red satin finally brushed the ground. Only then did she release her tense position with a sigh, smiling at the enthusiastic shrieks of her fellow dancers as her body continued to ache. "OMG Steffi, you were so great!" "Steffi I swear, if I could dance like that, I'd be rich!" "Are you kidding? Did you get a load of her HUSBAND? Total hottie-alert!" "Did you SEE the way that guy was looking at you? Man, I wish I could do that...""It's all a matter of incentive," Steffi replied, doubting any of the girls would catch the irony in her voice. She groaned, rubbing her shoulders. "Although I wasn't really on my game tonight... y'all have no idea how badly my shoulders are hurting right now..." She looked up to see her fellow dancers looking at the space just behind her with an awed expression, but before she was able to turn around to see what was going on, she could feel two icy cold hands gripping her shoulders. Recognizing the scent immediately, she felt a shiver going down her spine at the cold and she inhaled sharply, Kai's scent filling her nose. Expecting to hear a sharp rebuttal on her rather revealing performance, she was rather surprised when she received no such thing. The gentle massage was a tad bit too gentle for her taste, but it felt good nonetheless, and she leaned into his hands slightly as he extended his not-so-subtle invitation to leave as quickly as possible. She smirked, removing his hands and turning to face him as the other girls gave them some privacy. Nexus was still shooting daggers in their direction, of course, but Kai's warning had been clear, so she said nothing. "Looks like someone had fun," Steffi said quietly, subtly readjusting the collar of his white shirt in the dim incandescent light. "I don't think you'll have to drag me out... I'm done here, you know? I don't need to stay around Nexus any longer than I have to... although it looks to me like you took care of that little problem, didn't you?" She was almost purring now, the backstage ambiance and the pheromones of her dancing exuding off her skin so thickly it was almost visible. She looked tired, almost worn out as she clicked over to a back-lit screen and began to untie her corset. The other girls had ventured out to greet some of the punters who were eagerly awaiting their arrival, so the dressing room was all but empty -- even Nexus had departed. All Kai would see was Steffi's silhouette as she pulled off her clothes, every once in a while tossing another article of clothing over the wobbly screen... not that there was much. "Hand me my clothes?" she said, almost gently as she peeked out over the screen. Waiting patiently until Kai handed her the shorts and her underclothing, she pulled them on quickly and stepped out in search of her shirt. He may have been a bit put off by the colorful neon patterns adorning the black fabric of her bra, but she didn't care. Finding her shirt beneath a pile of other clothes, she pulled it on and reached for her shoes, which she stowed away in a locker for later use. She sighed, having finished all her preparations for the night, but as she passed Kai to leave she stopped, pausing next to him for a moment with a slightly less... aggressive expression on her face as she put a hand on his shoulder. "There were some... vampires out there, I don't know if you saw," she said quietly. "Friends of yours? Well... if they were... they... make my job a lot harder sometimes, I mean... of course I can handle it, but... thank you for keeping them back. You know. Because they know and everything..." She paused, not quite knowing if she was asking him for a favor or if she was just trying to fill the air, or if she was really thanking him or what. She didn't want to tell him about the nights they'd followed her, the times they'd laughed at her and ordered her around... she hadn't reacted to it of course but it still aggravated her to have to choose between her job and her sanity. Ignorant fools! It seemed there was nothing to disbar her hatred of vampires. Arrogant, blood-sucking...! On the other hand... that didn't really apply to Kai, did it? She didn't know why, but as she closed her eyes, drew herself to his arm, and pressed her cheek against his shoulder in a slightly awkward display of thanks, she could feel a trace of that forgotten moment still lingering somewhere, deep within her cold, dark heart. Pulling away before she was too lost in her own memories, she slipped on her flip-flops and grabbed up her duffel bag before heading to what was obviously a back exit. "Come on," she said, pushing it open. "This way." She was hit with a blast of cool air, and the sweat on her skin caused her to shiver. "Christ it's cold..." she muttered, bracing herself for the trip around front to the car.

Yes, Perstephone's dance had been stunning, animalistic and raw.... sending him back to a time when everything hadn't been so controlled and structured. His back hadn't stood so straight and controlled, he had sweated and lived and breathed in the fumbling way that humans did.... consumed by the wants of the flesh, the desires of life and pleasure... but that was so long ago, the memory in his flesh all but forgotten until the moment that he watched Perstephone with a raw passion and unhidden interest. She was beautiful. What a shame she didn't offer herself as much respect as she deserved, she treated herself and those around her as immaterial and that was something that Kai found unacceptable. The words of the other dancers as he had stalked backstage to reclaim Perstephone hadn't gone unnoticed, but the words didn't seem to distract him from his task. His want. His need. "Looks like someone had fun." He smirked a little at that, but only for a moment before the stoic expression slipped into place once more. Kai didn't comment as she readjusted his collar, simply allowed it and watched her almost distantly, almost cautiously.... yet at the same time with a lingering smouldering desire flickering behind his eyes. Almost absently he looked over towards Nexus and shrugged, "I simply reminded the human of her place." In his mind his thoughts whispered, I swore to be faithful to you, and I shall Perstephone. There was no need to say that outloud, no need to reveal just how much control she had over him without even knowing or trying. After nearly seeing her die today he was almost positive that he would do anything to keep her alive. As Perstephone moved with an almost tired grace to the screen to get changed he found his eyes wouldn't leave, couldn't. Transfixed and possessive even if they were locked in their expressionless place. Without words he found the clothing she requested and handed it to her. When she came out and spoke again he found himself quirking an eyebrow at her words... he only mildly remembered the other vampires, he had scared them off with a glare, though his intention hadn't been directed at them for such a purpose... after all, he had glared at everyone. The fact that Perstephone was topless and seeking her shirt distracted him... but he was sure of one thing. He had been acting very much like the jealous vampire husband he was.... no one stood between a vampire and their bride, and even if Perstephone wasn't officially his bride... until the ring was removed from his finger and their marriage officially destroyed he would see her as such. Her words trailed off, she believed that because they 'knew' of the marriage they where simply leaving her alone? If only it was so simple. He looked to the hand on his shoulder for a moment, claimed it in his own and brought it swiftly to his lips, purposefully running his fang over the flesh... even though he did so so gently that it would do no damage, simply a silent reminder of exactly what he was. He was a vampire too. He kissed her knuckles. "Not friends. But not fools either. I swore to your father I would protect you. I shall." He released her hand, even as he knew there was more to it than that, more than he was really willing to accept or explore, he didn't wish to reveal too much to Perstephone. Duty was so much easier to explain, to accept. She surprised him then, practically curled into his arms and closed her eyes, her cheek placed upon his shoulder as if she was built be be just there, to remain there forever, the perfect piece to a puzzle that had always been missing it's other half. It was all Kai could do to stare at her with an almost gentle warmth. He spoke softly, moving his head slightly so that his mouth was close to her ear. "Still, you are welcome. None shall touch you again Perstephone.... if only you will allow me to help you." The raw honesty danced and sparkled in his voice. She pulled away, too soon for his liking, but he didn't protest, simply let her go as she grabbed her duffel bag and started heading for the exit. He followed her almost snappy command to 'come on' wordlessly, the night air didn't effect him as it did Perstephone, again reminding him of the differences between them. Still he took off his jacket and placed it upon her shoulders, his hand reaching for her bag and tugging until she released it. He said nothing simply walked side by side with her to where he had parked the car. It was an uneventful walk, something he was thankful for, though he was aware of lingering eyes upon them, could tell from a combination of scents and heartbeats that two were vampires and at least one was a were... the remaining three humans... though the smell of sex was in the air around them. He could care less about the humans, they posed no real threat to him, never would. In an effort to distract himself, Kai opened her car door before tucking her bag away for later and getting in himself. "I imagine you are hungry after that performance, are you not?" He was trying to be considerate, knew of a place that served excellent food -something he knew from the blood he had drunk from there, not that he would openly advertise that to his wife. "I know a place..." He glanced at her for a moment, knew she was far from dressed for such an establishment but that they would not argue with him if he requested a seat.... but would that make Perstephone feel as if he was trying to put her in her place, remind her of the difference although that was far from his intention? He mused about it for a moment and frowned, his attention on the road once more. "Of course, if there is somewhere else you would rather go.... now is the time to tell me." He wasn't sure he could handle another 'wolf' surrounded location but he would bare with whatever he was given.... and he would smile, act as if nothing phased him, as if being surrounded by so many wolves posed no threat to his life.... Yeah, he could almost feel a chill running down his spine just thinking about it. He decided to change the subject.... something he knew he couldn't put off forever. "Perstephone." His tone was serious, though he didn't take his eyes off the road, "I know you enjoy performing, I could see it in the way your eyes sparkled.... but..." He grit his teeth a little and looked over at her for a moment and then back to the road again. "...I have a condition." He knew that asking her to stop would be a battle, and likely impossible... she would find a way to escape the house, to do something, anything to escape to the ecstasy he was sure she felt up on stage... and, despite not liking that other men were looking at her like that, desiring and drooling and likely using her for hidden dreams and visions... he found he wanted her to be happy. Truly happy. That was likely where this insane idea had come from, it was a dangerous game he was playing. Plus, he did slightly like the idea that she would return to him at the end of the night... "I will allow you to continue dancing, but I must be there." He took a deep breath, not ready to look back at her yet. He imagined that she was already starting to fume and bubble with anger, her eye twitching ever so slightly, the almost adorable and stubborn line between her brows... was she even aware of her little tells? "Also. I request that you take... whatever this is between us... seriously," He looked to her, his red eyes flashing with a river of lava snaking through them. "No matter how short or long our time together lasts." There was almost a sadness at the idea but he returned to the road and with it slipped his normal persona back into place. All business in a world that pleasure seemed long forgotten. "Do we have a deal." He wasn't really asking, if she said no he knew he would have to insist that she didn't dance... even if she had to get her fired, have her watched, something.... anything. The idea of playing dirty didn't appeal but he would do so in a heartbeat. MitashiUchiha16 The restaurant Kai is thinking about (just incase you use it) Outside || Inside I imagine there is either an exclusive room or a hidden booth that he would request for them in an effort to make Steffi more comfortable.

"... none shall touch you again Perstephone.... if only you will allow me to help you..." In any other situation, his words may have caused Perstephone to scoff in disdain... but as she felt Kai place his jacket over her bare shoulders, she felt an unpleasant sense of deja-vu come over her. If only she would allow him to help her... she didn't need his help! She'd forsaken the advantages of a Vampire's assistance a long time ago... well, long in her eyes. She'd learned the hard way that they were not to be trusted, and as much as Steffi knew herself to be a good judge of character, she felt a sense of doubt building up in her as the duo made their way across the parking lot. Kai wasn't the only one who sensed that something was not right; Steffi, too, smelled the tell-tale scent of fornication lingering around the establishment as the other girls earned their tips... and for some reason she felt a strange sense of guilt, knowing that she was being liberated from that duty, while they had to remain there and suffer in their own delusions of popularity. Her guilt deepened when the door of Kai's luxury sports car was opened by none other than the owner himself, and she glanced warily over her shoulder as two pairs of burning red eyes leered at her out of the shadows. She got in quickly, pulling the strongly scented jacket tighter around her body as she shut the door and was plunged into darkness. Her eyes took a moment to adjust as Kai stored away her belongings, and with a nervous brush of fingers through her hair, Steffi began to realize that she'd have to ask Kai for another favor if she wanted to-- She stopped. WHAT? Why on earth would she even bother to ask?? The ban she'd been placed under applied exclusively to the daylight hours, which had long since passed! She didn't need to ask Kai for permission to turn, it was already in her allowance!! And yet, strangely, she felt almost obligated to notify him of her situation, although she was sure he was fully aware that werewolves who remained in their human form began to lose their powers after a few days. Perhaps it was masked by the smell of her own perspiration, but maybe he would've noticed the decreasing severity of her natural werewolf scent... The anxiety left her eyes completely as her husband joined her in the car, and they sat there quietly for a moment before he spoke again. Steffi glanced at him, looking a bit surprised at his offer to take her to dinner. She turned away, looking thoughtfully out of the window. Their audience had left. "I don't think the place you know caters to my 'type'," she answered, her implications clear as she stared with jaded interest at the coarse texture of the leather dashboard. "And besides," she added, stretching her bare legs out a little to prove her point, "I'm not exactly... dressed for the occasion if you know what I mean." She frowned. "Not to mention the crowd might not be my kind, but..." When he suggested going to a place she would have preferred, Steffi sighed. "Actually, as much as I don't wanna go to whatever 5-star place you're planning to drive to... I think maybe, to be fair... enough of what I want. Let's go see what you... 'do'." She didn't really know what to say at the end, so she just folded her fingers into air quotes and crossed her arms, waiting for Kai to start the car. They began to drive out onto the road and quickly made their way to the highway, and Steffi watched the cars outside zoom by with little interest, feeling the weight of the day coming down on her like a ton of bricks. She took a long, deep breath as the cars on the opposite side of the street whizzed by, a blur at the speed they were driving. Suddenly, Kai spoke again, and she looked over at him, fighting the urge to fall asleep with her head against the window. Her interest grew as he began to talk about her performance -- after all, he hadn't said a word on it since they'd left -- so she was curious to know his opinion. As he spoke, it became clear, and once he was finally done with his preposition, Steffi found herself struggling to hold in a very loud laugh. Alas, her struggles proved futile, and as soon as the first suppressed snort left her lips, she was doubling over to the best of her ability, leaning against the dashboard with her forearm as she laughed loudly into her lap. "Ooo, boy," she said, pointing at him with a smirk on her face. "You, sir, have got to be the most jealous guy I've ever met... and don't try to say you're not, because I know you are." Her reaction may have come as a surprise to Kai, who up until then hadn't gotten much more than a hidden giggle out of her, but it was just another thing that belonged to Steffi that he would come to know. However, when he suggested being present at her performances, she lost her smile and crossed her arms over her chest, looking rather frustrated as she sat back in her seat. "You? Be there? Well good thing that's only what I do on weekends..." She wasn't quite ready to divulge her day job, not that she ever would want to but she figured Kai would find out sooner or later. It wasn't remotely as... 'testing' on his part as what she had just displayed to him, although one could see it as being in the same area of expertise. "Also. I request that you take... whatever this is between us... seriously..." Seriously? If she weren't taking this 'thing' seriously, then she most certainly wouldn't be sitting in that car at the moment! "Do we have a deal?""I am taking this seriously!" she replied defensively, sitting up slightly as she glared at him. "If I wasn't taking this seriously, then you'd be out looking for me instead of driving me to some fancy-schmancy restaurant!" She plopped back in her seat with the worst possible posture, pouting as she stared out onto the road. "Trust me, you think I was being difficult earlier? I can make things a lot harder for you..." She was close to muttering now, having been painfully reminded of how much Kai resembled her father, who -- in all his wonder -- could be something of a tight-a** at times. But still, she found she couldn't quite remain angry at him... especially since he was about to feed her. She sighed. "Fine," she snapped. "You can do what you want... but don't even THINK about interrupting me. I take what I do very seriously," she added, having a slightly pompous air about her as they came into the city. Suddenly, Steffi jolted to attention. "Stop!" she shouted, and braced herself for the screeching halt she was sure would come. At Kai's questioning glance, she answered, "Duh... I have nothing to wear. And there's a dress shop right there, so..." She rummaged around in the jacket pocket of the jacket she had yet to take off, producing a wallet that obviously belonged to Kai and flipping it open. Picking out a very fancy-looking credit card, she said with a smirk, "I'm borrowing this," before opening the car door and bolting out into the street. Narrowly missing an oncoming car, she jogged into the brightly colored shop, bursting through the door slightly out of breath and heading to the nearest cashier, who regarded her rather skeptically. "Look," she said, slamming Kai's credit card onto the marble countertop. "My husband's taking me to this fancy place and all I've got are these shorts and this shirt... so gimme something I can look good in, size S... and pronto! Don't worry, I'm not on a budget," she added, since it looked like the hawk-faced old woman was about to have a heart-attack. She just nodded quickly, and went to the back to see what she could find. With a heavy sigh, Steffi went discreetly to a corner display and picked up an expensive-looking hairbrush, peeking around herself to make sure no one was looking as she began to run it through her hair. Being as she was a wolf, her hair -- or rather, her fur -- was naturally smooth and silky, so it didn't take much to get it to shine as the old woman came back with a pile of different-colored dresses. "Umm, uh..." quickly picking out a plum-colored evening gown, matching shoes, and a few other accessories, Steffi darted into the changing room as the bewildered lady rung up the charge. "Thank you, bye!" Steffi said a moment later, teetering precariously in her new sandals and long, elegant gown as she made her way across the street and back towards the car. Knocking on the window, her white hair spilling over her shoulder as she frowned impatiently into the glass, she waited for Kai to get out before gesturing to herself and saying, "This okay?" as though she was asking if her outfit was suitable for a day at the beach. Sure that her outfit was perfectly fine, Steffi flipped her hair over one shoulder and began heading down the lane towards the restaurant. Once there, it was clear that Steffi was rather uncomfortable. Her last visit to a place like that ended in disaster, since werewolves were not known to frequent places such as this one. But, despite her initial hesitation, she just took a deep breath as they stepped into the glittering ballroom-type setting, trying her best to imitate the other women she saw there but feeling rather ridiculous about the whole thing. She nearly tripped in her uncomfortable heels (although they honestly weren't much higher than the ones she'd just worn, but... that was different), but thankfully she was able to grab Kai's arm before she made a fool out of herself... again. "I feel like an idiot..." she hissed into his ear as she offered her most slinky smile to the waiter who immediately presented himself to them, offering to serve. "This food had better be worth it..."
