Alright. I am going to clarify a few things, only because I feel as if blatant facts are being disregarded.
Do not feel as though I am being high strung or biased (i.e, I do not want my Kingdom downed and whatnot) I only wish that the details I've worked so hard to create aren't ignored.
1] Darkfall is within the Darklands, and was only just discovered 93 years ago by Kingdoms outside of the Darklands. Its location is quite vague.
2] Few have ventured to the Darklands, and in the few that have, fewer have returned. This means that very little is known about the Darklands, and this makes exploration a very difficult task (though not entirely impossible).
3] Now, when it comes to Darkfall, considering it is in the epicenter of the Darklands, it would be only be reasonable for the Kingdom itself to be next to unknown entirely (due to exploration of the Darklands themselves being so difficult) . -- I'm not sure if I elaborated on that well, tell me if you're confused.
4] As for there being only a few Orcs and Goblins here and there -- there are far more threats in this land. So, no, it wouldn't be easy. I am just correcting anyone who thinks Orcs and Goblins are the limits of the races inhabiting the land.
5] As for the castle. You seem to overlook the strength of these enchantments the Queen has cast. There is absolutely no way you could run into the castle, locate the throne room, fight the Queen, AND take the orb shard while in that state of mind. Let's be real. At least you could use some magic to protect yourself. Consider the other obstacles in the Castle as well.
6] The Lichs'. I seem to recall mentioning that the Queen is the only individual who knows how many shards there are and where they are located. She was the one who was responsible for that, mind you (There is actually a loop hole to my story about that artifact, it would be great if you all saw it) I'll just end at that note.
7] Also, if the Kingdom itself was just discovered 93 years ago, a little while after its creation, how would ANYONE alive right now even know of the orb's existence? I don't want to repeat the word obscured too much. :T
Here is a general example of what I see from this plan: You've just been dropped off into some forest. A VERY, VERY LARGE FOREST (i.e, the Darklands) A dark forest crawling with all sorts of evil, deadly creatures (that could possibly be warded off). A few of your friends have talked about this forest remotely, but you know very little about it.
... However, you are searching for something in this forest that you do not know exists (ie, the orb), and you explore this land in search. Realistically, you wouldn't know where to go. You wouldn't know where to turn. You would know nothing about this forest. Put yourself in these shoes (and yes, you may have magical powers and inhuman skills and all that) and think how you would even begin your expedition.
How would you find anything?
( By the way, they are Orb Shards )

Seems like you made the and Darkfell, something of a target for adventurers, Freya sad
Nothing is known, than the mystery of intrigue attracts the bold.
How about this? Just to add some icing to the cake, once every month or so, a legion of Grimknights patrol the borders just short of the Darklands, and kill-on-sight-with-extreme-prejudice any thing they see that is not of the lands, for the sake of taking slaves and raising more soldiers into the ranks of evil?
I don't know.. I'm just thinking about what I could be doing when I'm not hammering away at the Libris Ex Mortis thread.
but taking slaves from the out-world, thats not adjacent to the arctic south, would likely be one of the very few ways that Terra Mortuis would be able to discover "oh hey, there's other kingdoms and people out there".

I like that idea. I say, roll with it.
lol, I'm aware that the Ghostlands would know. I actually mentioned you in a post.
Well, that could, of course be one of the ways they could figure it out. The humans found would be stragglers or travelers. It would give outsiders a vague idea that something was out there. But, they already know of the Kingdom, I just mean that they know little about it.

That gives me some breathing room anyhow. Maybe an envoy from Terra Mortuis will show up, to see what Darkfell is all about..
"Hey yeah, we are just going to swipe anyone with pink soft skin, who crosses this line here, where the forest canopy ends and the treeline is adjacent to the snow.. Is that okay with you? Yeaaah, we're not -really- asking.."
Hah.. Don't mind me. I'm just very tired.. I made several flubs on the example profile I made, trying to be a little creative.. So I'm sort of just, half rambling..

I understand all your posts. So let me rebuttal with this.
You wear a shard around your neck that glows when you cast magic. If we know your an enemy we will notice stuff like that and do research. That gives us knowledge of the shard.
2. Sadakat mentioned spells that would analyze the magical properties of your power. That gives us more knowlegde.
3.People do enter the Darklands and live. Atticus was one of them and for every beast Darklands has another nation has one as well. Hell Skylands has s**t that would make your creatures cry themselves to sleep. I know because I specifically made Skylands filled with giant feral beasts that would make it so no one dare enter the place without some sort of guide or protection. I pretty sure North Reach has some s**t too. So I pretty sure if someone is prepared enough they can survive it. Especially if they going in expecting resistance and not just scouting. While yes it will be very hard it is do-able.
4.Just because the crystals are hidden doesn't mean they don't resonate power. All artifacts tend to. So their are ways to find them.
In short your make it sound impossible no matter what. However with research and preparation it is totally is do-able. We aren't going to just walk into Darkfall right now and say lets go search for crystals and win the day. That would be impossible. This is a long term plot that will probably last the rp atleast a month if not months.
I dont think your acting out of place or overly protective however. You are acting like we are going to do this tomorrow with no preparation. We need to rp that part out. Right now we are just talking about an idea and whether you would be fine with it. So instead of saying nope it is an impossible idea. You should be thinking of ways to prevent it from becoming possible in the long run. Or ways to make the idea more sound. For instance as Vitiate and you added said. Going to the ghostlands or learning about them getting information from someone else who isn't necessarily loyal to Darkfall and the Dark Queen.
Anyway totally dazed and half asleep not sure how much this made sense. Going to pass out now.

1] Not even going to start on the shards. Don't feel like elaborating. Perhaps later.
2] Sure, thing.
3] I actually did not say everyone who entered Darkfall died, I tried my hardest not to say that. :T
4] Glad you recognized that.
5] I am not trying to make it sound impossible. I am, realistically, laying out the situation on the table for you all the look at. I actually set multiple loop holes in this story, that if snuffed out, could make a win automatic or assured, or at least a lot easier. If looked at from the simple facts, it may indeed sound impossible to you. However, it is quite possible. If I wanted to make seizing of Darkfall near impossible, I would have constructed it just like the Ghostlands (no offense to you, Vitiate) . :c
A note; I'm telling the truth. I am acting like no one but myself. Take all this information as a attempt at me trying to clear things up and make this plan even remotely possible. By listing these, I'm pointing out the obstacles, not making more of them. Though, all of this was in the descriptions. :T
I'm done vigorously pointing, however. I'll just see how I can help you all figure this out without sounding like an a*****e.

I don't think you sound like an a*****e at all. I think you were just setting out facts in a calm and possibly a bit matter-of-factly manner. But no, not an a*****e, and besides. More obstacles make things more realistic. plus, makes it more exciting for the "heroes" or whomever to triumph over.

Also I think it would be awesome if the Ghostlands and Darkfall become super allies just my two cents.

I'd like people's opinions on deleting every post that uses any form of the word realism.
We'll be able to navigate around the impregnability of the Darklands. Sorcery, while perhaps not the most powerful magic in elemental areas, is definitely the most versatile magic. So long as something is conceivable by mental synthesis and won't occupy more arcane energy than the entire Kingdom of the Crownlands can mobilize, it flies. I don't picture clairvoyance to be too taxing in this respect.
So long as we have a precedent for the energy signature of an enchanted object, we should also have the ability to locate it through much the same process. Unless I've missed something, that should solve our problems.

I'd rather not delete posts. Its rather rude.
Realism does not have to mean by humanistic or mundane means. In this situation, it means realistically to this roleplays' means. Meaning looking at this from a certain viewpoint such as, "Yes, there are many things liable to aid the search of course. But what obstacles are there?" I do believe I mentioned the magic.
The energy signature idea was already suggested, I am well aware that the shards would give some sort of energy off. However, be that as it may, I am only clarifying that it won't be as easy as all of you seem to want to believe.

Realism has almost no place in Roleplay, or any game for that matter. When the objective is fun, impediments to fun are often cleared and rarely considered. I might be taking your posts too literally though and I apologize if that's generating problems. I understand how you could have each signature convey a different signature, but, if they were all once part of a coherent whole, they would have some shared qualities. If you don't want us exploiting the orb just say so. Having the main group commit to other useful maneuvers could prove just as interesting, maybe even less repetitive.

(Fantasy with no limits placed? We'd all be Gods, l a w l -- let's just defy gravity right now. What do you think Godmodding is for? It is a limitation of fantasy! A form of realism)
Oh? Realism has no stance in role play? That's funny. :T
Well, in mine, I'd rather have some sort of realism based on mentioned factors (realism being based on seeing things as they really are). Meaning I'd like for obstacles to be acknowledged, rather then entirely disregarded. I understand the excitement in taking my Kingdom out, but you should understand that I wouldn't be all too happy with it being easy.
I will repeat myself. I do not mind that you and your galavanting caravan, you know, saunter about the Darklands and all, but, I only do not appreciate the lands themselves being undermined.
And at that note, I'll leave things as they lie.
-- Actually, I like this idea. You all come into the Darklands and we'll see how this pans out.

But invaders are going to end up traveling to the dark lands, and getting overwhelmed by hordes of orcs and trolls and the like, which know the land intimately, with surprise ambushes all around. Not to mention all those other creatures, roaming ghouls, lesser demons and nightwalkers. I just see in my head, a situation like in the movie Prometheus, where the science expedition had no clue they were walking into a place that would get them all hurt or killed. Only, more to a fantasy/adventure feel, instead of a super "all get-out" sci-fi thing.
