Nick was curios as to why Zig-zag was smiling at him, surprised the man had laughed when he accepted the offer. "Alright," he said somewhat hesitantly and was confused when he felt the man's hand in his hair and against his neck. When he was kissed his eyes widened and he let out a soft sound of protest which turned into a squeak as his a** was groped. Somewhat frustrated and irritated he turned into his fox form, scampering across the couch and sitting on the arm before transforming back. "What did you do that for?" he asked, wiping his lips with the back of his hand as his tail swished back and forth quickly. The yoko's heart was racing and his face flushed from confusion and some arousal though he didn't understand why.

Zig smirked a bit as Nick transformed and he relaxed back a moment before answering the boy's question. "Oh just taking my first payment cutie. Now let's get to the basics hmm?" He grinned standing up and walking over to find a chalk board then writing out the alphabet with caps and lowercase letters making the caps twice as tall as he went. When he finished he turned to Nick and smiled. "So can you tell me what any of these symbols are?" He asked with a smile. He couldn't help but feel like he'd won something already and really the boy's reaction only amused him that much more. He figured it would only take a few hours to teach Nick the basics and a few days to get him comfortable reading basic materials. It would be time well spent.

Nick tilted his head in a slightly haughty way as the man smirked at him, pouting slightly as the man said he had taken his payment. Or at least his first payment. As the man got up and went to a chalk board he crept forward, watching as Zig-zag wrote some strange looking symbols. When the man asked if he knew what the symbols meant he shook his head, curling his legs under him. "Are those letters?" he asked, recognizing them slightly by the shape as being part of what made up the words in the books. He still couldn't read them since he didn't know what they meant though.

Zig nodded at the answer. "Very good, they are letters. Now in order to read anything you first need to know the parts it's made up of right? well these are the basic parts of reading." He pointed to the capital A. "Now the order you learn them in doesn't matter so much as you know what each one of them is and what it sounds like both by itself and in combination with other letters. Let's just go traditional route and start with the letter A. I'm going to approach this a bit differently than most would. Pick up a book and find as many A's as you can on the first page you open then show me the page."

Nick watched Zig-zag nodding and describing how to read. The yoko frowned at the letter that the man had drawn and was now pointing to, nodding slightly as he listened to what the man said. When he was told to take a book and find as many letter A's as he could he went and started sifting through the books till he found one with an A on the front. Opening it to the front pages he looked through and found several of the letters he was meant to be looking for. "Here," he said, going over to the older man and going through the page pointing out the symbol in each instance it occurred.

Zig nodded as Nick showed him each A on the page. "Well good your sight won't be a problem then. Alright how about numbers?" He drew a big line sperating the letters off in the top section then wrote 0-9 under it. He wasn't really the teaching type but he figured this would be an easier lesson if he could count as well.

The yoko's fur puffed up slightly as Zig-zag said his sight wouldn't be a problem. "Of course I can see well," Nick replied haughtily, giving the other man a slight glare. "I can read numbers and count well enough to handle money for collecting tickets," he replied, looking at the numbers as the man wrote them down and frowning slightly. "Generally I go by the shape and quality of the currency to know how much it's worth." Lightly he traced the number eight with his finger and sighed as the chalk came up on his finger tip. "That's a number eight right? Three bronze coins and a nickle one." He grinned and smeared the chalk on the other man's shirt before scampering back onto the couch with glee.

Zig shook his head a little. He just raised an eyebrow as the fox rubbed some chalk off on him. He rolled his eyes a bit. "Alright then, you know a little about numbers. I'll save that for later then. So let's go over the alphabet then. Knowing each letter and how it sounds will help you understand how to read it better." He shrugged a bit and went over the alphabet a few times at different rythums until Nick seemed to catch on.

Nick grinned as Zig-zag shook his head at him, settling so that he was draped over the arm of the couch closest to the other man. "Alright," he said, blinking as he watched the other man start to go over the rest of the alphabet. Slightly he frowned as he got confused as to why there were different symbols for the same letter but tried to learn them as best he could. Once he started to understand the basics he was starting to sort out how the letters might fit together in words. "So, the letters line up to make words based on the sounds they make?" he asked, tilting his head slightly and looking at the different symbols.

Zig nodded a little at that. "Something like that. just a minute." He walked over to a desk and grabbed some index cards writing the alphabet on them and handing them to Nick. "try different combinations of those cards and say them slowly a few times then try to say it as a word. there are lots of three letter words you can make with those. Just play around with them for a while." He said with a smile before laying down on the couch.

Nick smiled as Zig affirmed that he had been right in his understanding of how letters and words worked. As the man copied the alphabet onto cards for him the yoko curled up against the larger man's side. "Alright," he said, looking through the cards before starting to arrange them on his lap to try to spell his name. "Nh-eh-koh-las," he stumbled through the letters, sounding them out as he put them down, spelling his name 'Nikolas'. Happy that it seemed right he put them back in the order that Zig had taught them to him before trying to spell something else. "S-er-cus," he sounded out, spelling the word 'serkus' which was phonetically similar but wrong regardless.

Zig smirked a bit watching Nickolas. "You can't spell circus with only one set of letters. It has two of the same letter." He smiled ruffling Nick's hair a bit. "You did spell your name pretty fast though." He said with a grin. Really it surprised him how easily Nick was catching on. True he didn't think it would be hard but still he was no teacher and the boy being able to spell his name like that? too easy.

Nick blushed slightly as Zig said that he couldn't spell circus with only one set of letters which meant that he had spelled the word wrong. "Oh, but it sounds right," he said, smiling as his hair was ruffled. "If the symbols mean sounds it shouldn't be too hard but some of them sound the same," he said, frowning at the k and the c. Looking at the cards again he looked back at the other man. "I'm rather clever, even if I can't read yet."

Zig laughed a bit and nodded. "I can see that Nickkie boy." He ruffled Nick's hair again. "Letters are a bit more complex than that. different arrangements make the letters sound differently. It's not a skill you learn overnight but you shouldn't take too long. I'll get my hands on some materials for you to use and we will have you on your way in no time." He smiled wrapping an arm around Nick pulling him closer. "Memorizing the letters will be enough for now. Later I'll teach you how to write it. Reading and writing go hand in hand you know." He blinked a little as he realized something. "Oh damn, I should show you those too." He gently released Nick and stood up going to the board and sectioning off the numbers then writting the punctuation marks. "You will see these in any formal text. I want you to focus on these though." He said pointing to the period, exclamation mark and question mark. "These are used to end sentences. If you don't know. A Sentence is a string of words used to form a complete written thought. A period is used for most sentences but the exclamation mark." He said pointing to it. "Is used when you're trying to convey excitement, surprise, anger or just plain loud." He pointed to the question mark. "This is a question mark. You simply use it in place of a period to make it a question. Simple." He smirked a bit.
