poseidon chuckled guiltily in response to Aphrodite’s reply, his eyes immediately downcast as he looked away from her. He wasn’t ignoring the problem; the problem was that there were just too many beautiful women roaming the world and he had certainly never ignored one that caught his eye. Now, if they were all just a touch lower on the attractive scale, Poseidon would have no problems with being forever faithful to his wife. Of course, he loved his wife with every fiber of his being, but he just couldn’t resist the lustful temptation. Unfortunately, Amphitrite had just recently found out about the result of one of these lustful temptations and had left his underwater palace altogether. This was the normal procedure; she found out about one of his demigod children, packed her bags, and waited for a decade or so before returning. Or until Poseidon had figured out a new way of groveling at her feet and begging for forgiveness. Whichever came first. Poseidon always went to Aphrodite to help him brainstorm a new way to earn his wife’s forgiveness again, and this would be about the time he did so, after he had finished fuming for a couple months alone in his palace. “Now, now, Aphrodite, I do enjoy your company as well. Amphitrite isn’t the only reason I stop by.” Poseidon pressed his lips together at her next statement, though he knew she would eventually cave in if things grew bad enough. They were a cute couple in her eyes and she wouldn’t be able to bear their separation.

Poseidon’s eyes flickered over to the spot where Artemis had appeared. He nodded in response with a smile at his immortal niece, one of only many. He personally had no problems with the goddess of the hunt, though her practice of turning young women into eternal virgins forever did cause a vein in his neck to throb. He wasn’t going to start a commotion over it though. Soon after Artemis had strode by him and Aphrodite, Dionysus appeared followed by a rather enthusiastic greeting. The god of the seas couldn’t resist a grin. The god of wine was a well-liked character among the gods and Poseidon was particularly fond of his knack for putting together a great party.
“Nothing at all, which is the problem,” he replied. More gods seemed to be converging on Mount Olympus, but it wasn’t as if anyone was doing anything remotely entertaining to alleviate his growing boredom.

Demeter arrived next and Poseidon gave a nod of acknowledgement towards his sister. He liked her much more than the rest of his siblings, which included Zeus, Hades, and Hera. It was difficult not to like Demeter more than those three immortals. She was a bit anti-social though, which bothered the god of the seas to some extent. She couldn’t very well spend all of her time with her plants and her daughter. It was such redundant company. A second glance at his sister reminded him of the item he had inside his blazer pocket, quickly patting himself down as he tried to recall which pocket. Before he had left his palace and had decided to make a trip to Olympus, he had grabbed a bouquet of another variety of underwater sea flowers. His sister adored it when he brought her flowers from under the sea, since she had never visited him in his palace. The flowers he brought out from his left pocket were a vibrant emerald, with long, thin petals that resembled tentacles, its middle a paler jade. It was a type unknown to man, who had never ventured nearly deep enough in the ocean to appreciate all that it had to offer. A good thing too. If they were able to damage the carefully created ecosystem of sea creatures any further, Poseidon may be liable to flood each of the seven continents.

He walked over quickly to his sister, offering a pleasant smile.
“I’m well, thank you. Bored as well, but I suppose there’s nothing to be done about it, eh?” He offered her the bouquet. “I thought you might like these. As always, they’ve been infused with my power to last a day out of the water until you can find somewhere to put them. They’re best grown in rocky soil,” he informed her, knowing full well he would be bombarded with questions about the plant and how to take care of it soon enough. Being the saint she was, Demeter would hate to care for a plant incorrectly due to not being informed well enough.

As Athena approached Demeter, Poseidon rolled his eyes, sneering at the goddess of wisdom before striding away from the two. There was no need to start an unnecessary argument while things were so peacefully boring, although it would be much more entertaining than idly standing around… The god paused as he heard a loud rumble of machinery that could be heard a mile away, interrupting the quiet atmosphere of Olympus like a gunshot piercing the night. The noise was familiar to the god, who took a step back, his eyes focused on the edge of the mountain where the noise was coming from. The noise grew louder as the piece of machinery grew closer and Poseidon’s sea green eyes fell upon the god of the forges as he entered the scene, sitting atop a cart as a golem hauled him and his load of shiny metallic cargo onto the mountain. Poseidon’s relationship with Hephaestus was neutral and fairly friendly, though the god of the forges wasn’t always the most agreeable god. He was also the least social, so it was difficult to form any sort of close relationship with him. Poseidon’s eyes flashed with annoyance at the god’s gruff, rude greeting, though he calmed down after reminding himself that the god’s nature was gruff. So Poseidon merely took a step back so Hephaestus could get through, nodding at him in acknowledgement. He rolled his eyes.
“’All this’ is merely a convenient convergence of us all. Everyone simply appeared at the same time by chance.”

Poseidon’s line of sight had been focused on the god of the forges, though when he heard the sound of feet running towards him, his eyes flickered upwards immediately just in time to see Persephone launch herself at a figure cloaked in darkness, a Fury perched on his shoulder. Poseidon smirked widely as she yelled the name of the cloaked figure, who directed his gaze towards her just as she crashed into him in what he assumed was originally supposed to be a hug. A very forceful hug, mind you. The goddess collided with her husband, causing them to crash into the ground, Persephone somehow managing to land on top of him. Hades was lying spread-eagled on the ground, the hood of the cloak thrown off from his head. The Fury—he could never recognize any of them by name—had flown away before her master and his wife had collided, now perched on a bench, lips curved in an amused smirk. A look of surprise had overtaken Hades’ features as he groaned, struggling to sit up with Persephone positioned on top of him. “Persephone, was that really necessary…?” the blonde god asked, momentarily blinded by the sun in his eyes. As he reached behind him for his hood, Poseidon wolf whistled before calling over with a smirk, “Perhaps you could spare all our eyes and get a room?” Hades—now with his hood firmly on his head and shielding his eyes—glanced up at his brother, his features quickly contorting into a death glare. Poseidon grinned smugly in return. “You’ve graced us with your presence Hades—such an honor! Did you think we were having another godly meeting and neglected to invite you?”

Poseidon directed his gaze towards Nemesis when she spoke, previously being rather preoccupied and just now noticing her presence on Olympus. He chuckled a bit, slipping his hands into the pockets of the dark jeans he wore to compliment his pinstriped blazer and sky blue dress shirt. “Why is there a need for an occasion Nemesis? Is it illegal for so many of us to be in the same place at once by pure coincidence?” he asked in return, his famous half-smile curving his lips.

Demeter watched as the Olympians began to slowly converge, silently standing beside herself as the others spoke amongst themselves. When Athena came to stand beside her Demeter smiled quickly, nodding her head in greeting as she listened to the goddess speak.
"I'm doing well, thank you Athena." Demeter said, her voice quiet-- as though she were trying to avoid drawing any form of attention to herself, "Although, I also don't have very much to do right now." she felt the need to add, clasping her hands gently in front of herself. Her blue eyes flickered up to Hephaestus, flinching slightly away from his gruff words. She mumbled a slight apology, despite the fact that she was standing off the path already, ducking her gaze away from his face. She had never minded the god's appearance, but she felt he could be a bit gentler towards other people.

Her gaze lifted, however, at the sound of Aphrodite's voice, her expression brightening as her friend, the goddess of love, stepped into sight.
"Aphrodite!" Demeter said, rather happily, her tone lightening as she nodded towards her sister before talking the short walk over to the goddess of love. Turning her smile, which was slightly less open, towards Nemesis, Demeter dropped her eyes slightly. "I had a bit of a run in with a farmer who appeared to be a fan of GM." she grumbled, her expression visually falling into a glower before she sighed, her expression brightening again, "But, the plants made their choice." she added, a dark undertone laced in her voice. The darker mood was wiped clean, for a moment at least, as Demeter listened to the commotion around her.

Her eyes whipped over to her brother as he walked towards her, lighting up extensively as the flowers were brought before her eyes. Gingerly she took the delicate stash into her hands, bringing a long, pale finger up to caress the petal before looking up at Poseidon with an almost childlike wonder awe flickering into her features at the unusual texture and vibrant colour. From experience, she knew they would look even nicer once she got them into the tank.
"Thank you. Thank you so much!" she exclaimed happily, carefully wrapping her arms around her brother for a moment before pulling back, "Would you mind coming over later? To help me plant them and tell me a little bit more about their habits?" she asked, tilting her head slightly to the side, "Oh, Poseidon, they're absolutely beautiful." she added, a warm and girlish smile making her practically glow, radiating with happiness at the simple gesture.

She didn't predominantly hang around her family, but she didn't mind it once in a while, seeing as stuff like this occasionally happened. It made everything better, and things were generally fine-- so long as the company remained enjoyable.

But on that note, the mood soured. Demeter's expression dropped suddenly as Hades came into view, and she took a step back, away from the suddenly too crowded space. Her mood was only further ruined by her daughter-- who would usually be a pleasant sight-- totally disregarding Demeter's presence and going after the damned god, leaving her mother in the dust. Her face fell, and she gave a half smile to Poseidon, before turning a shallow nod to Athena and then twisting a sullen gaze towards Aphrodite.
Oh, I see how it is, she thought with a light sigh, shaking her head slightly. "I'll see you later, Aphrodite, Brother, Sister." she mumbled, thoroughly upset by her daughter's indifference-- she didn't even have the energy to bicker. "Drop by later, okay Poseidon? I'll see you guys around." In a flash of soft light, with the soft scent of summer lingering in the air, Demeter disappeared, deciding finding some empty field to mope in.

xxxxx ϟ x Zeus was annoyed today.

It wasn't often that mortals managed to piss him off, but this woman was completely unyielding! He had followed her around, explaining what he had wanted, and he kept getting distracted by the things around him. Considering he was on a mission today, this woman's boobs didn't distract him so much as they usually would. He had managed to sneak away from Olympus for one reason and one reason only: a gift. He wanted to get Hera a gift, but it was frustrating to find things! And the worst part was this woman. "Look, lady, all I want is to be able to give my wife a gift that she will enjoy. She likes shiny, colorful things, especially with greens, blues, and purples. Anything peacockish would be great. Can. You. Help. Me?"

"Oh, yes, missah!" the Asian woman responded with a sagely nod, taking him directly to the diamond section. "Wife like diamonds!" Zeus groaned under his breath, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Okay, I'll find something myself..." Zeus completely ignored the woman now, looking among the merchandise there was to offer and internally wishing he was on Hades' good side. Hades might have been able to help him, considering he was the god of mineral wealth. His garden was bound to have something that his wife would like...

But alas, life could never be that simple.

The lord of the skies groaned, walking out of the store. He scratched the back of his head, looking at the other stores on the street. He wanted to get her something expensive for the hell he'd put her through over the last decade, but nothing felt right. He had plans tonight; he would take his wife out to dinner, and over some nice wine, he would give her the gift, down on one knee, professing his eternal love for her, and she would throw her arms around his neck, squealing with joy...Well, so he hoped. He hoped she wouldn't slap him and embarrass him in front of everyone. She usually liked romantic gestures, but he had really ******** up this last time. His last two kids were born within three days of each other, which was the proof to a rather quick succession of women.

He was just glad she didn't know about the other ten women from that year.

He walked into another jewelry store, his expectations admittedly low. His eyes gazed around the displays, and this time, when help was offered, he refused. He'd learned his lesson, not to mention having another woman help him might tempt him a little more than he would like to admit. He liked to flaunt his self-control, but the truth was he had none. He was truly thankful that he had such a forgiving wife. Otherwise, he would be quite alone at the moment. That was one thing he didn't want; as much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't stable. Hera was the one who offered him that stability, that consistent support that he needed to get through the day when he had done all of his responsibilities. In truth, just knowing that he could turn to his wife at the end of the day made him feel almost giddy inside. Dunno what I'd do without her, he thought, not trying to be wishy-washy, considering he would be poked fun at by Hades and Poseidon for the sentiment. Unfortunately, his relationship was a lot more open than theirs, considering their wives were mostly isolated. Not that he couldn't get to Persephone, but he definitely couldn't catch Amphitrite. That woman never left the sea.

Sex off the mind, Zeus. Focus. He looked over the displays, and finally one display made him smile. He looked over a colorful choker necklace where the jeweled wings of a peacock seemed to wrap around the neck as the peacock itself rested between the juts of the collarbone. He called over the sales associate, pointing to the one he wanted, eyes carefully trained on her face so he wouldn't turn his own thoughts. He paid for the necklace, tucking it into his suit pocket. He had dressed nicely, since he intended on going back to Olympus and convincing his wife to change into something nice to go out to dinner. Not that she didn't dress nicely, mind you! It was simply that a nice dress wasn't good enough. A cocktail dress would be better. He walked up the path to Mount Olympus, wanting to clear his mind before he got there.

The scene he saw before him was rather amusing, as much as he hated to admit that Hades could amuse him.

Hades was hiding behind Hephaestus' cart with a fury on his shoulder, just as Persephone arrived. She squealed her husband's name as they collided in what should have been a hug, but more resembled a dog pouncing on its master. Well, he assumed it was supposed to be a hug. He listened to Hades question Persephone on it, asking if it was necessary as he sat up, which caused Persephone to straddle his lap in her sun dress. He heard Poseidon wolf-whistle, and couldn't resist poking a little fun at his brother.

He took off his jacket, hanging it on a tree limb before walking forward.

"HEY! What'd I tell you about orgies?! NOT UNLESS I'M INVITED!" He started to unbutton his shirt, as if to take it off, but heard an unfortunate yell; his wife's voice.

"ZEUS, YOU PUT YOUR SHIRT BACK ON RIGHT THIS MINUTE!" The god had barely gotten it unbuttoned, but he quickly went to button it, not wanting to agitate the woman further.

"Damn. Fun police arrived..." the god observed as he awaited his wife's arrival to the group, quickly scurrying to grab his suit jacket as if nothing had happened.

The goddess of spring couldn't resist a smile. Her husband was a sight for sore eyes, considering she never saw him in the spring, and seeing him would make her happy for the rest of the spring. She was finally able to move, and let him sit up, though she was still straddling his waist. Her eyes were bright green with happiness and mirth as she looked at her husband. She noticed her mother leave, sullen, and sighed to herself. She felt bad making her mother upset, but she had missed Hades, as she did every summer. She really needed to get her mother hooked up with someone, and maybe she'd understand the need to be with her husband. She heard him speaking, and smiled a bit. "Persephone, was that really necessary...?" She nodded; it was necessary to her. Her eyes followed his hands as he tried to pull his hood over his head so that he wasn't blinded, and she secretly helped guide it to his hands, knowing he would hate her help. She smiled at her husband after a moment, giggling when he glowered at the smug Poseidon, and not exactly moving from her comfortable position straddling his lap.

That was when she noticed her father coming forward, boisterous as always. "HEY! What'd I tell you about orgies?! NOT UNLESS I'M INVITED!" Persephone's face flushed, and she buried her face in her husband's shoulder. Well, the cloak covering his shoulder. She had a bad time with Zeus, considering he had disguised himself as Hades in the spring on two separate occasions, resulting in two children that were not Hades'. She didn't trust anyone who came forth in the form of Hades unless she was in the Underworld. Well, here, she trusted it because there was a Fury with him. Alecto, if she could remember the name properly. She looked around, spotting the Fury now perched on a bench, smirking smugly. In truth, Persephone didn't like the Furies, but at least they helped her to get the jump on her husband...

                                              Literally, in this case.

She watched her father as he started unbuttoning his shirt, knowing the dark-haired god was trying to get a rise from Hades, but sighed in relief when she heard her step-mother's voice.

"ZEUS, YOU PUT YOUR SHIRT BACK ON RIGHT THIS MINUTE!" Usually, the voice of Hera would not make her so happy, considering Persephone knew that Hera hated her for existing. She was one of Zeus' children, and not the child of Hera. She was evidence of Zeus' scandalous ways, whether it was her fault personally or not. While the entrance of Hera had everyone distracted, Persephone pressed her cheek against Hades' through his hood, whispering to him.

"I'm sorry, Hades, I was just so excited to see you. I never see you in the springtime," she admitted in a quiet whisper so only he would hear her words. She would have moved to get up, but he hadn't made a motion of wanting to get up yet, so she would stay comfortable until he gave her a signal. She glanced in the direction that Hera was coming from, noticing a miserable-looking redhead with her. If she hadn't have known that Poseidon's wife was a redhead, she might have thought it was just a nymph. The goddess of the sea hadn't noticed that Poseidon was on Olympus, apparently, because when she spotted him, she hid behind Hera. Persephone sighed through her nose; Poseidon must have cheated again. Persephone knew the feeling. Unfortunately, she also knew that Amphitrite had the wonderful bonus of being able to leave the seas, which Persephone could not do. She was always trapped in the Underworld with her cheating husband, or while he was cheating, he would be out of the Underworld for months, leaving her alone through the winter in a cold, dark place that she honestly feared when her husband wasn't with her. She wasn't respected or feared like he was, and she would spend her time locked in the room she and Hades shared, away from anything she liked in the Underworld.

She tucked her head into his shoulder again, slipping her arms around him comfortably, hiding the frown as she thought about that. Hades was the most loyal of the three Olympians, but he still cheated. She hated that. And worse for him, he claimed that he fell in love with every woman he cheated on her with. They had discussed it once, and he had attempted to assure her that the love he felt for them was nothing compared to the love that he shared with his immortal wife, but it still didn't help Persephone very much. He still wasn't faithful to her. Her arms tightened around her husband at that thought, an almost possessive, fearful grip, and she forced a smile, looking as bright as always, and planted a soft, quick kiss on his lips while no one was looking. She smiled at him with a light blush. "I'm happy to see you," she whispered. "I love you~!" She knew it would embarrass him, since he only really liked being affectionate behind closed doors, but that didn't matter to her. It wasn't like Zeus and Poseidon didn't make crude gestures of affection in front of them anyway!

She snuggled herself back into him until the time came that he wanted her off. After all, this was a public place where all of his brothers and sisters (excluding Demeter and Hestia) were gathered. She wanted to get him to spend some time with her aboveground, but as she thought about it, what would they do? Maybe dinner. Yes, that would be nice. Going out to a nice restaurant for dinner, and maybe a movie or a play? The dinner theatre actually had a show going right now. It was The Phantom of the Opera, and she loved that show, not to mention the theatre itself was a nice theatre. She had gone on her own before. Company made things better, and she knew that Hades went out to operas and that sort of thing. She'd have to wait until later, when things had calmed down a little bit, to ask Hades if he wanted to have dinner, and maybe spend a night aboveground. The Underworld was perfectly capable of running itself for one night! She had seen it run on its own for months at a time before, with Thanatos taking care of what paperwork needed to be done and the Furies shuffling messages as needed. It was amazing, how well the kingdom functioned, even without its ruler. She smiled a bit, cheek against his shoulder and face angled toward his neck. She didn't really interact with the gods and goddesses anyway, so she could just be happy to see her husband for the time being.

edit;; I had actually intended on changing the lyrics, but I actually like how this turned out. I think I might keep it...The lyrics suit the pictures that I got from Guilty Crownie.

Hera was in a terrible mood.

To begin with, just last night she had discovered that the two known demigod sons of her husband had been born a mere five days apart. Five days! If Zeus would insist on breaking all the rules that a marriage entailed, he could at least do so with enough courtesy not to shame himself so embarrassingly when his wife found out. She had been infuriated when she had found out, but she had resolved to hold her tongue for the time being on the subject matter. Her husband was stressed greatly enough as it was and they had already fought and made up regarding the births of Oliver and Gavril. She still couldn’t help becoming upset and had locked herself up in a secret room in her palace on Olympus not even Zeus knew about. No one had come looking for her—that she’d expected—and she had spent the better part of the time letting flow tears that Zeus had never seen and the other part scheming against the two boys. Their mothers were dealt with, but those two were stubbornly still alive. Such nerve!

After sometime, Hera had reemerged and decided to go shopping in NYC’s shopping district. That usually cheered her up enough for her to stop wallowing in isolated misery. However, the shops she had visited so far were bare of anything stylish and the goddess was growing frustrated. It was true that she could simply conjure an outfit that matched what she wanted perfectly, but shopping was a stress reliever for her. Not to mention, it was its own victory in finding clothing that she fancied. She needed a new pair of shoes and a couple skirts but she had found nothing that even remotely resembled what she was looking for. She could probably scour ever boutique in the city and find nothing to her liking, the way luck was favoring her.

And then there was this silly assistant manager.

“That jacket complements the blue in your eyes nicely,” he complimented with an almost eager tone as the goddess held up a sky blue jacket to her chest as she glanced in one of the many mirrors placed around the store. “Thank you,” she replied tersely, paying him no mind. Her thoughts were still preoccupied with her husband and his demigod children. The mortal was being a nuisance, but he hadn’t done anything quite yet for her to discard of him by using a bit of her reservoir of godly power. But then again, mortals never did do what was better for their health.

Hera replaced the jacket on the rack and was about to step towards the exit when the male quickly blocked her path. He was slightly taller than her, with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes that reminded her of the color of the skies when Zeus was in a particularly good mood. He smiled suavely.
“So, uh, I was thinking… my shift ends in a few minutes. Do you want to get a coffee or something?” “I’m married,” Hera replied coolly, waiting patiently for a disappointed look and for the assistant manager to move aside. However, she’d forgotten how persistent mortals of this generation could be. “What he doesn’t know can’t hurt him,” the male murmured in her ear as he slipped an arm around her waist, trying to tug her away from the exit.

This time, Hera didn’t try to conceal her outrage.

“You scoundrel!” she shrieked, and her eyes flashed with a danger that was immediately imminent. The employee seemed to shrink at the rage emanating from her being and had begun to back away, fear obvious in his eyes. Hera pursued him, one step at a time, strangely beautiful as angry as she appeared. “You!” she hissed. “Have you no respect for a married woman? Are you so desperate, so pathetic that you’ll pursue a woman who has her heart bound to another? What men and women like you do, ruining marriages and ending relationships, is so vile, so disgusting, you don’t deserve to walk the earth a man. Men have more honor than that. You were born a pig and you’ll die a pig!” The male was now sufficiently spooked, and even more alarmed to find himself backed into an apparently deserted corner of the store. Hera paused in her rant, strangely calm now, giving him one last chance to redeem himself. What he said next would either save him or damn him.

“So does that mean I can’t have your number?”

FLASH! The glow of a flash of light that could kill a mortal upon sight faded quickly as a series of frantic ‘Oink, oink!’s emitted from the corner where the assistant managed had previously been standing a human. He was still there, but in the form of a pungent pig covered in filth. Hera smirked in satisfaction as the animal skidded frantically away from her, running into an employee folding shirts. She screamed as the pig bumped into her, dropping the shirt she had been folding and sprinting away madly. “You were born a pig and you’ll die a pig,” Hera chimed as she made her way for the exit, turning her back on the chaos taking place behind her. Her spirits hadn’t exactly returned to her, but issuing justice did have a way of making her smile.

When Hera stepped out of the store, she immediately wrinkled her nose as the smell of the docks greeted her. It wasn’t exactly a pretty smell, after all. She would never understand how Poseidon or Amphitrite could stand it.
Speaking of Amphitrite… Hera tilted her head as she spotted a familiar head of red hair sitting at the end of one of the docks lined along the shore. The goddess’ eyes brightened as she realized the hair belonged to the Queen of the Seas. She hadn’t seen her for the longest time now—Amphitrite preferred to be with her husband as much as possible, and her husband preferred to be in the sea as much as possible.

Quickly, the queen of the gods traipsed towards her, though a frown touched her lips as she got closer to the sea goddess. She thought she may have heard sobbing but it could have been her imagination. However, as the distance between the two closed, Hera was sure her friend was sobbing. Her steps quickened until she stood beside her. Gracefully, she sat at the end of the dock, immediately wrapping her arms around Amphitrite and pulling her into her maternal embrace. The goddess began blubbering sentences through her tears, most of which would have resembled indistinguishable rubbish to any other person. Hera smoothed Amphitrite’s hair back and cooed kindly,
“It’ll be okay, hun. Why don’t you tell me what Poseidon’s done this time?”

( TIME SKIP ! )

After having a long, tearful discussion, Hera had managed to convince Amphitrite to come to Olympus with her and have a hot, home cooked meal before going on a girls’ night out, just the two of them. The Fates only knew they needed it. They had appeared on the summit of Olympus via separate flashes of bright light. As they began walking towards the second largest of the palaces on Olympus, her own, Hera kept up a light conversation with Amphitrite to keep her from bursting into tears about Poseidon again. The goddess had to try hard not to grind her teeth together from frustration—it was unattractive and not suitable behavior for a woman of her status. Amphitrite was a wonderful goddess and Poseidon should consider himself lucky to have her rather than cheating on her with every given opportunity. It was just so frustrating! Her family wasn’t perfect, she’d realized and she’d accepted that, but it didn’t help that they seemed to be actively trying to resist fitting into the picture of the ideal family. Hera sighed before she returned to her conversation with Amphitrite, traces of the moment of depression all but gone.

As the two goddesses neared the area where all the immortals seemed to have met up, a loud, familiar shout interrupted Hera’s rant to Amphitrite about the man from the store earlier.
“HEY! What’d I tell you about orgies? NOT UNLESS I’M INVITED!”

“ZEUS, PUT YOUR SHIRT BACK ON RIGHT THIS MINUTE!” Hera demanded in a bark, stopping as she placed her hands on her hips. She glowered at her husband for a moment before she noticed the frantic, almost panicked movements of a suntanned man dressed in a suit. She whirled on him, forcing him to fidget uncomfortably under her glare. She may not have been able to start another argument with her husband over demigod children, but she certainly could with her siblings. “Poseidon! I expected better of you! The poor girl you married has been sitting at the docks crying because of your infidelity! Have you no shame, brother? Are you so low that you won’t bat an eye at the distress—“

Hera was cut off as a blur of color rushed past her, sending her hair fluttering in the resulting breeze. The goddess turned around to see the sea god kissing his wife passionately, lifting her so that her feet dangled from above the ground. Hera rolled her eyes. Did he really think she would be won over so easily? She certainly never would be, as much as she loved her husband to her very core. After several moments, her brother finally pulled away and set Amphitrite delicately on her feet, his breathing slightly more rapid than usual. He pressed his forehead lightly against his wife’s. “I’m sorry, love. You’re the only woman I’ll ever love, no matter what I do or say that might make you think differently. Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?” he murmured softly, staring deeply into his wife’s eyes. Hera rolled her eyes once more, sighing softly through her nose. “Honestly Poseidon, it’s nice and all that you’ve acknowledged the wrongs you’ve committed against your wife, but she’ll never forgive you that easily. Isn’t that right, hun?” Hera looked at her friend confidently, waiting for her confirmation.

There were times when Amphitrite cursed her fortune. She was married to the man she loved, the king of the seas. But this just made her more miserable in the end; he fancied women of any kind, really, and had many demigods. In fact, even with Zeus’ lecherous ways, somehow, Poseidon still had more demigods. Hades barely had any demigods. She had just discovered another demigod, Poseidon’s most recent, and they had argued. He always defended his adultery, and it just served to make Amphitrite more angry. And then, without even finishing the argument, Poseidon would storm out, and like usual, Amphitrite would be gone by the time he got back. Probably staying with Triton. Currently, she had left, and would have gone to Triton’s house if he was home. He must be out delivering some message or other for his father, as was his job. Though she wasn’t happy to lose her sanctuary, she couldn’t blame him. He was dedicated to helping his father however possible, and she was proud of him.

Amphitrite had thought about telling Poseidon the news, but as soon as she had found out about his most recent demigod, she just couldn’t bring herself to tell him that he should be expecting another child. Now, sitting on the docks, the redheaded goddess cried in earnest, unable to be seen by any mortals under the effect of the mist. Usually, she liked being ignored. This was actually the curse that the Mist brought upon her, and why she had no demigod children; she couldn’t be seen by mortals, because she was a Nereid, a sea nymph. Humans couldn’t see nymphs. As much as she wanted to cheat on her husband for his infidelity, just to teach him a lesson, she could not. It was impossible for her to do so, and so, she remained the example of a faithful wife, much like Hera. The two of them had become best friends, because even Persephone slept around on occasion. After all, Amphitrite and Hera both knew the horrors of an unfaithful husband, though Amphitrite often questioned which god had more affairs, considering Poseidon had more demigods. Of course, this was also a question of how fertile the women Zeus slept with were. The gods had too many factors to judge. The queen of the seas decided to leave it at they both cheated, and quite frequently.

The queen of the seas sniffled, looking over the sea before her, ankles crossed as she wiped at her eyes repeatedly, unable to stop the tears. Perhaps she was too upset – after all, he did this frequently, and she should just grow used to it, right? Right? But she couldn’t. She couldn’t accept that her husband wouldn’t forgo the women of the mortal world. She hated it, and she wanted him to be hers and hers alone. Her eyes were a deep blue, shimmering with white flashing across them, like the white caps of waves in a storm. She was thoroughly upset, and it wasn’t hard for anyone to tell as her wide eyes stared in the direction of her husband’s castle, unable to see it unless she was under the water. She could feel it, though. Her entire being was part of that castle, and her home was that castle. She could leave it, though. It simply pained her, something she had never brought up with her husband. She couldn’t stand to be away from it, even to venture aboveground and hang out with him, or to go to Triton’s manor. It physically pained her, making her far more unstable emotionally. It didn’t seem like anyone had ever noticed. After all, she was moody underwater, and she was good at hiding her pains from her husband. She never wanted him to worry about her.

Someone settled next to her, and as arms wrapped around her, and she was held firmly, she felt soothed. She knew this was her friend, Hera, who always seemed to know how to comfort anyone. The Nereid couldn’t help blubbering out words, words that made no sense, except for the fact that Poseidon had upset her again. “It’ll be okay, hun. Why don’t you tell me what Poseidon’s done this time?”

“H-he…He had more demigods, and…and, and…I don’t know what to do,” Amphitrite replied between shuddering gasps for air and violent sniffles from her sobbing. She took her time, making sure that Hera could understand. “We f-fought…last n-n-night and he…he l-left again!” the woman replied, bursting into full, lamenting tears. It took a long time before Hera could even get her attention, as she had taken to wailing in her friend’s shoulder. The fights always bothered her the most, because whenever he came home after, he smelled like sweet perfume, and she always suspected he either went to a woman for sex, or he went to meet up with Aphrodite. She had seen the two of them together on a few occasions, and they always seemed so friendly. Perhaps it was just her being jealous, but that always bugged her.

“Well, it sounds to me like you need a hot meal and a girl’s night out. Let’s go back to my castle. I’ll make us dinner, and we’ll get you all fancy, and we’ll go out and have a good time,” Hera coaxed. It took a few more convincing coos before Amphitrite agreed, and pushing Poseidon out of her mind, the two queens used their powers to arrive on Mount Olympus.

                                                    ————— !!

Emerging from a bright flash of blue light, Amphitrite found herself just slightly disoriented. She was higher up than usual, as she rarely ventured much higher than sea level, though her moment’s disorientation left her to discover that Hera had turned on her husband, who was quickly buttoning up his shirt. Then she noticed Poseidon, and felt tears gathering in her eyes all over again while Hera wheeled on him.

“Poseidon! I expected better of you! The poor girl you married has been sitting at the docks crying because of your infidelity! Have you no shame, brother? Are you so low that you won’t bat an eye at the distress—”

She didn’t really listen to much more, because Poseidon had suddenly appeared right in front of his wife, and Amphitrite was more than intimidated, considering he was far more powerful than she was. His powerful arms slipped around her waist, pulling her up into a passionate kiss with ease. Amphitrite’s eyes closed, and she slipped her arms around his neck tenderly. His passion and kisses always dissolved whatever upset she was feeling, and even as tears escaped her eyes, this time was no different. When he finally pulled away, she noted that his breathing was a bit faster than usual as he set her on her feet. As his forehead pressed against hers, she was forced to look into his eyes while he spoke. “I’m sorry, love. You’re the only woman I’ll ever love, no matter what I do or say that might make you think differently. Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?” And Amphitrite felt her tears welling up again.

“Honestly Poseidon, it’s nice and all that you’ve acknowledged the wrongs you’ve committed against your wife, but she’ll never forgive you that easily. Isn’t that right, hun?”

Despite her friend’s words, Amphitrite threw her arms around her husband, sobbing again. “Oh, Poseidon, I’m so sorry! I’m too difficult to deal with, forgive me for always getting so upset over such small things,” the girl sobbed into her husband’s shoulder, honestly afraid that his apology had been forced, that he would be upset if she didn’t apologize for her own shortcomings. She knew she was being temperamental lately, though. And she wanted to tell Poseidon about the child of his she was carrying in her womb, but this was not the time or place. All of Olympus didn’t have to know, and she didn’t want to give Hera another reason to yell at Poseidon. She looked up at Poseidon, lip quivering. “Oh, please forgive me, my love.”
