Well, you could always dip them in "instant skill" (i.e. wood stain), but that would have to be the final layer since it dries with a gloss coating that i wouldn't see as conducive to additional painting.

Can't tell you much about washes since the only ones I've done are grime and rust washes with shades of brown and orange thinned with rubbing alcohol...

so if i thin them it should be with rubbing alcohol or does it depend on teh washes? I have mostly citadel paints etc... and wood stains that sounds like an interesting plan.. i'll have to keep that in mind...gives me some ideas actually...

my color scheme/theme for my army is like a south american/aztec kind of theme...just for sake of chatter XD

I thinned the brown and orange paints with rubbing alcohol to eliminate the surface tension water inherently has (due to its molecular polarity) so that the paint would actually flow into the tiny cracks and crevices that rust and grime naturally wash into, and the alcohol evaporates quickly, leaving the paint behind (unless you use the cheap 50% alcohol solution, which would leave the surface tension-y water and paint behind). It would work on any paint, since alcohols, like methanol, ethanol, and isapropanol have a molecule that's a hydrocarbon at one end and a hydroxide group at the other, making it an emulsifier (due to intermolecular attraction match-ups and crap).

An Aztec theme...

...maybe you could give their chainswords obsidian teeth: just paint or leave them black and give them a coat of gloss varnish. After all, the Aztecs made extensive use of obsidian: it's easy to get a blade from, it will never dull, and if it does break, it breaks into more sharp edges. The Aztecs actually used Macuahuitl, which were wooden weapons that had obsidian blades along its offensive surface; they were nasty. Maybe you could give them those. Just a couple of ideas...
