The little girl turned away.

"Maybe a little," she admitted evasively. "A lot of shiny people came here all at the same time. Something really bad happened."

Arannis sighed.

"To make an incredibly long story short, my brother is to blame. He, myself and one other remain. However, my brother has turned to an Infernal counterpart to himself, and the other... I cannot rightly say for certain."

He looked away, grim determination stamped on his face.

"Yes, Okiku. I, too, am Celestial."

The little girl's eyes widened as she looked once more at him with renewed interest.

"Really?! I can't believe it! I thought for certain that I had seen the last of your kind way back then. This is my lucky day!"

She paused, then looked down.

"Eh, I'm sorry. It probably isn't so lucky for you though."

Arannis closed his eyes, smiling slightly. His hand tilted upwards, an image of the broken crystals that had once been shown through him appearing.

"On the contrary, it seems that I may yet walk away alive."

Okiku pouted.

"Aww, I was hoping for another customer."

She stayed silent for a moment, then brightened.

"Lucky you, though. You get another chance at life. That doesn't come around every day."

Arannis' smile widened slightly as he raised an eyebrow.

"I may not be entirely dead, but I am still here, am I not? I mean in no way to disappoint you. Besides, after 15 centuries of pain and suffering, war after war... I find that peace is much more enjoyable, even among the souls of the lost. It makes me miss the time before Divinus fell..."

He straightened suddenly.

"Oh, yes... I was there, too, when it came crashing down..."

"You were?!"

Okiku glided behind the bar counter and returned holding a small golden circlet.

"Then maybe you can tell me what this is. One of the shiny ones left it here."

She held it out for his inspection.

Arannis gently took the circlet and eyed it carefully, and suddenly his eyes widened.

"Okiku... how did you come across this?"

He looked around the room, to confirm their privacy, then as an added measure, he turned to telepathy.

~This belonged to the last patriarch of Divinus... and creator of a very close friend of mine... I have a favor I have to ask of you. Someday, perhaps soon, perhaps far distant into the future, a woman not too unlike myself may arrive, identifying herself as 'Eri'... or perhaps still as 'Kami'. Give this to her when you see her.~

He handed it back carefully.

Okiku nodded, and shakily took back the circlet. She then looked all around before placing it back behind the counter. Afterwards, she came back to Arannis and spoke in hushed tones.

"The last time that the shiny people were here, an old guy left this here. I tried to tell him that he forgot it, but he just smiled and said, 'I know.' I wasn't sure what to do with it, but it was pretty, so I kept it. I'm sure glad you came along and told me that it was important or else I might have lost it."

Arannis nodded somewhat gratefully.

"I would ask how one such as yourself can manipulate material objects, considering your form. Many of the ghostly spirits I have come across are incapable of such things."

She laughed.

"When I first came here, I wasn't sure how to do it, I couldn't even lift a piece of paper. But I kept practicing. It gets easier with time, though it can be tiring at times. I don't know why, but I guess it takes a lot of energy."

She floated over to a wooden chair and scooted it a couple of inches.

"That's pretty easy, but unless I'm really concentrating, or am really upset, I can't move the heavier things."

Arannis chuckled slightly, then looked around some, before setting his gaze back on the young ghost.

"Talented, indeed. Impressive, even. I cannot entirely say how much longer my supposedly dead form will remain, but I tell you this much; when my time comes in the life among the living, I will certainly stop by here. All my life I have lived and fought for the dead, now I find myself befriended to one long gone before my own creation... ironic, yet justified. You have my respect, Okiku. Know this much, at least."

Okiku smiled, delighted.

"Really? Thank you! Oh! Feel free to come by anytime. It gets lonely here sometimes."

She gestured around the empty room.

"I guess even we have our off days too."

Arannis allowed his curiosity to reach his face then.

"This does confuse me somewhat. In my life, I have known so much pain, so much suffering, and in the midst of it all, relentless counts of death. Why, then, are there none others among us now?"

The little girl took one more glance out of one of the windows.

"There were a couple of them that left not too long ago with Charon, but he hasn't come back yet. I hope that he brings a good amount with him. For the past few weeks, business has been really slow. I don't doubt that there are many dead or dying in the realms, but for some reason they haven't been coming by here."

Her eyebrows furrowed in thought.

"It just doesn't make much sense. This is the only place between the living realm and the underworld. Where else could they be going?"
