The Kami sighed, deep in thought.
"All I can do is be myself. I will keep the name 'Eri' secret. Kami can mean anything from a name to a title. I'll just use that until I need something different."
She Checked her wings, seeing if any part of them had been broken. Seeing that they were unscathed, she turned back to her friend.
"Kami will live as Kami and die as Kami. The Divine Light will bring about retribution. I promise it."

Arannis chuckled, smiling ever so slightly.
"This will take quite some time to adjust to. So long I have disregarded your superiority over myself to suddenly know you by the very status itself. Friendship does wonders, I dare say... Very well, Kami."
He stood, a hand coming up, a green rift in space appearing behind and expanding to form a portal.
"I can hold it better from this side, you'd best come through first."

Casting a worried look at her companion, Eri cautiously entered the portal. As soon as she was through, she looked around. Spacious blue skies lingered over fields of grass. Seeing no inhabitants in sight, she looked for Arannis.

Arannis stepped through, closing the portal behind him.
"Someplace obscure, much harder to suspect anything than if we were to appear in the middle of a city, no?"

"That is very wise of you. The less inconspicuous, the better. I just hope that we can find some means of making a living in this strange land."
She peered up at the sky wondering how it could look so cheerful here where only moments earlier the skies had been filled with the stench of burning rubble.

Arannis thought a moment, then turned his thoughts outward, in a telepathic message to the Kami.
~I don't know if telepathy works here as it did back home. Can you hear me?~
He sat down, closing his eyes in concentration.

Eri heard the voice resounding in her head and tried to send a response.
~Yes, I believe I can hear you. It appears that telepathy works here as well, though I must admit, it is a little hard to hear you.~
She picked up a blade of grass and watched as the wind carried it away.
"I wonder if other things work as well here."
She stretched her wings and watched as the sunlight glinted off of them.

Arannis nodded, his gaze turning away to a distant town.
"That way, I'm guessing, will buy us the most time."

Eri looked in the direction of Arannis' gaze.
"It looks peaceful enough."
She started to step towards the town, but pausing, knelt down to the ground. With great care, she pulled a feather from it's place and with her other hand dug a small hole in the earth. She set the feather down and covered it back up. She let her tears fall there on the top, soaking through to the feather below. After a few moments of silence, she stood back up and faced her friend.
"In remembrance,"she explained. "Maybe one day something as beautiful as Celestia was will spring up. Just maybe."

The Kami walked back to Arannis' side.
"Thank you for understanding."
She looked once more at the distant city, a mixture of dread and hope welling up inside her heart.

Arannis stopped suddenly, looking downcast.
"You have no need to thank me, Kami... You might remember, a century and a half ago, how I was forced to speak on your behalf to the elders of Celestia to give you refuge after your own home's downfall. Since then, I have learned so much about you, and to be honest, I don't feel worth being considered a friend after all this."

Eri smiled gently.
"Arannis, you have been a closer friend to me than many others who knew me. I treasure my time with you in Celestia. Those memories mean more to me than those of my own home. Please do not belittle yourself."

Arannis held a hand out helplessly in front of him.
"I do no such thing. I acknowledge my failures as well as I do my successes, but it seems so thrown off balance..."
He suddenly began to glow gold slightly, and his eyes widened. He came up from the ground, seemingly held in midair by no force in particular, and came down slowly, the glow fading.
"By the goddess, truly?" He said in wonder.

The Kami watched this transfiguration, wonder evident on her face.
"Arannis..was that...? Are you...?"
She stood there, speechless about what she had just witnessed.
