((I know XD I'm just saying, IC Baako has no idea where his brother is right now. They'd have to look for him.))

Baako sniffed the air, hackles raising slightly. "I don't know. Bear, I think." He glanced sideways at Fayrhen. He knew his warrior queen was quite a fighter. He also knew she didn't think too much of his fighting skills.

For some reason it was a tad irksome. Baako knew he wasn't a warrior, but it just seemed like a bad reflection on him that he wouldn't be able to defend his own mate.

So when the giant male grizzly came over the edge of the hill, growling and ready to attack the intruders to his territory, the vain male did the unthinkable and pounced to attack. The result was a nasty swat with one of those giant paws, right across his ribs. Baako yelped, feeling bone crack.

((.......The whole time I typed that I that "Billy don't be a hero" song going through my head >.> ))

Fayrhen was immediately in attack mode. Hackles raised and fangs bared, she started towards the bear. Then the unthinkable happened. Of course he would try to defend her. When Baako hit the ground, Fay howled a long, eerie, blood-thirsty howl filled with rage and despair that her mate might have been grievously injured. Saliva started pouring from her open and snarling mouth as she growled. Circling the bear, she began lunging and snapping at him, catching bits of fur and skin, then skipping back as fast as she could to avoid being hit. No one hurt her mate without asking to get it 100 times worse. No one.

((I can see them searching for him and then he pops out of a bush. XD And Fay is EXTREMELY agressive. XDD))

The bear roared, growing more enraged with each hit Fayrhen landed. His beady eyes were mean and he had drool began to gather in strings around his mouth. The male reared back on his hind legs. He was huge for his kind, a good ten feet tall. He lunged with a speed unthinkable for so much bulk, aiming those large and powerful paws, tipped with razor claws, at the she-wolf who dared attack him.

Baako held back a whimper of pain. It could have been worse, his ribs were only cracked. He didn't think anything was broken. He couldn't lie, it hurt, but he'd live. The sound of a blood-curdling howl broke through the pain haze. Fayrhen.

He tried to move and gasped as the pain flooded over him aknew. It was as bad, if not worse, than when the injury had first been inflicted. He looked up and watched his mate, lost in bloodlust and dancing around the bear like a deady wind.

Baako shook his head. He wouldn't go down like this! Gritting his teeth the male shoved himself from the ground in one quick movement. The pain nearly cause him to pass out. He swayed, held, and steadied.

At that moment the bear managed a strike. It was only a graze of claws, but it would have been enough to draw blood at the least. "Uncivilized brute! How dare you attack a female," Baako shouted, enraged. The beady eyes turned to look at him. Sensing easy prey, the grizzly abandoned the female to take down the already injured male wolf.

((XD It would be amusing indeed.))

She'd been quick, but not quick enough as the bear swiped at her, catching her across the shoulders. The blow threw her sideways and she hit the ground rolling. After she came to a stop, Fay laid there in a daze for a minute. Then her shoulders began to burn with an intense pain that radiated down her back. Moving onto her stomach, she looked at the pool of blood that sat where her shoulders had been.

The rest of Fayrhen's senses came flooding back and she looked up ans realized the bear was still there. In horrified shock, she watched Baako begin his own tango with the bear. She could tell he was in pain, and it didn't look good that both of them were injured with a thousand plus pound bear. With some nervous difficulty she rose to her feet. "BAAKO! RUN!", she screamed.

At that moment, impossibly, Baako chuckled. Later when this was all over he would explain to his warrior queen why it was so funny, albiet in a morbid sense. He couldn't run. Even if he wanted, the pain in his ribs was just too much for such a jarring moment.

The pretty-boy wasn't a warrior, trained to push past pain. But he wasn't a pushover either. Seeing Fayrhen covered in blood and screaming at him with a look of fear changed something in him. For the first time in his life, Baako's vision went as red as his coat.

For a moment his appearance, right down to stance and teeth, was very similar to that of a Twisted Addict. He sprang, noting the pain only as a distance sense that he would pay for later. Right now nothing matter more than to make sure his warrior queen would be alright.

Baako avoided a set of snapping jaws, but in return took a sideswip that left a long set of horizontal scratches down his side. The pain was muted, just like with his ribs. The blow actually proved a blessing, knocking him slightly off course. The bear's neck was protected by thick fur and skin, but his ears and the side of his face were much more vulnerable to the wolf's sharp teeth.

Baako got a mouthful of the bear's ear and surrounding skin, and clamped down hard. He curled his body to kick back legs into the bears throat. The grizzly roared and dropped to all fours, shaking himself violently in an attempt to dislodge the male. Baako held, trying to manuever himself onto the bear's back where he was less at risk for getting pummled by those massive paws.

"NO!", Fay screamed as he lunged into the bear's face. She was sure he was going to die. She only barely registered that she was still screaming and tears were pouring from her eyes. Fay's voice didn't seem her own and sounded distant and muffled in her own ears. She attempted to lurch forward to begin another assault, but the pain in her shoulders was too much and she yelped as she caught herself.

Looking up, Fay saw some kind of change in her usually benevolent mate. He became feral as he clamped onto the bear's face. It was odd to see him so...violent. Later she would admit that it was a bit of a turn on, but after the pups were grown and out on their own.

Baako was running out of time. The bear was getting smarter, and was attempting to manuver his paws to scrap the annoyance on it's back off. Already Baako had tempted fate. Blood dripped from a scratch on his cheek, barely missing his eye.

He feared he would be thrown the instant he released his hold, but there was no choice. He knew they couldn't run fast enough to get away if the bear decided to chase them.

So Baako released his hold on the grizzly's ear.......and went for the beady eyes. He overshot in his initial lunge, and grabbed the top of the snout. Shifting muscles warned Baako the bear was about to stand, and there was no way he'd have been able to hold on.

Rather than release his hold, he loosened it just enough so that his jaws could move without braking contact from the bear. Like a blind river monster nosing at the mud for it's next meal, Baako's teeth searched for the grizzly's eyes.

He got lucky. A canine sank deep into the grizzly's right eye, and Baako's clamped down with an iron bite. The bear bellowed, wild with paid and rage, and threw himself up on his hide legs determined to shake off the menace. Baako dangled by the side of the grizzly's head.

((It occurs to me, reading the front page in the thread, Hollows are big. They shouldn't be too much smaller than the bear himself >.>))

((I know, right? XD They're huge O_O))

Fayrhen had stopped screaming and stood there in awe. This was not good. Shaking out of her stupor, she charged. Her shoulders blazed with pain, but she didn't care. Another adrenaline rush had begun to surge through her and the only thing she could think about was her mate's safety.

Fay wasn't entirely sure what to do as her thoughts raced along with her. Then her father's voice popped into her head, reminding her of a few last-resort moves. Using her momentum, Fay leaped and turned just enough, body slamming the front of the bear with the side of her body at full force. She just hoped it would be enough.

Baako felt the shock of impact shudder throughout the bear's body. His roar was different this time, fear rather than rage. He knew what Baako knew. The blow had knocked his balance off, and not in a way that he could recover from. He had a he-wolf attacking his face and a she-wolf in prime position to go for his throat, belly, or rend a paw. The battle was anyone's game now.

Baako took advantage of the moment. The instant he felt the impact of the ground he angled himself so he could throw as much weight and power behind his attack as possible. If the bear somehow survived this battle, he would never be able to see again.

Fayrhen had landed hard. The shock sent her back to her belly and the body slam had knocked the wind out of her too. "Baako...", she croaked. Trying to catch her breath, she saw he still had a grip on the bear's face.

"My love...help me up. We need to get back and recover. Leave him. He won't follow", she pleaded in a quiet voice. Her heart was still racing and Fay knew she'd lost more blood and had caused herself to be more vulnerable now than she had been before. She was going to pass out soon, and then Baako would have to carry her as dead weight if she did.

Moaning softly in pain, Fay managed to get back on her feet. Her vision was swimming and her limbs felt like lead. She wouldn't be able to stay conscious much longer.

The grizzly's face was ruined. If he was lucky the small cuts covering his nose would heal so that he could smell, and the ear that had been grabbed would probably be fine. He no longer had eyes, just gaping sockets among ruined flesh where the he-wolf had torn into his face. The grizzly just wanted to get away now!

Fayrhen's voice broke through Baako's bloodlust. His entire muzzle was streaked with blood, some his own but most of it the bear's. His side was matted with blood, though thankfully the shallow cuts had already begun to clot. The worst of the damage was internal; several of his cracked ribs were now broken.

The Hollow moved back, panting heavily as pain and fatigue finally started to make themselves known. Thankfully the grizzly decided enough was enough and ran off in the direction he had come as soon as he was able to rise.

Baako moved over to Fayrhen's side. He had never seen his mate in worse condition. Dull anger flared inside of him, but he had no more adrenaline left. Very gently Baako nosed her neck. "Come on Warrior Queen, let's seen how far we can drag outselves from here."

He began slowly limping forward. Each step was flaming agony and he felt dizzy. But the worst part of it, the very horribly, horridly worst? He was a bloody mess! It would take DAYS to get his fur back into order, and even longer for the wounds to heal! He had half a mind to go back and tell the bear off for mussing up two exceptionally good-looking creatures!

Through her haze, Fay felt somewhat defeated. She'd never come out of a fight so badly torn up before, nor had she ever felt so helpless. Usually when she fought, it was over only moments in. But then again, she only had to care for herself at those times. Now she had to worry about her mate and his welfare.

Hobbling along side Baako, Fayrhen could only think about relieving the ache in her body as soon as possible. She could feel her shoulders go from a menacing burn to a dull ache. Healing would take time, and she would have plenty as they both recovered.

Another realization kicked in; she and Baako were covered in blood. Blood stains were hard to get out. Baako would spend WEEKS grooming them both. Internally she rolled her eyes and smiled. Fay liked the attention he gave her. It made her feel special.
