 ~Kathryn J. Yelsah~
Kathryn heard the woman tell her she didn't have detention and forced herself to look up. Kathryn knew she had done wrong, and she wasn't getting punished for it? When the woman said she could transfer out and into Care of Magical Creatures however, Kathryn violently shook her head. "No ma-am, please don't kick me out of your class. I know I was annoying and I apologize sincerely. I'm sure you're a wonderful teacher. Lots of Professors give us really dull and long assignments like this. Even on the first day. That's why I was annoyed ma-am. I hoped that since you were a new professor you wouldn't give us such dull work. We've had so many new Professors come in that are hard nosed and believe hard work is the only way to get anything done. We're losing the fun Professors. Headmistress Wixom isn't teaching anymore. She was the best anyone had, and she's being replaced by a replicate of my father. Not being allowed to talk just made me even more frustrated. I wouldn't have done it for any of the other Professors, and I was an idiot for doing it to you." At the mention of her father Kathryn gave an involuntary shudder. He wasn't going to be pleased if he found out she was causing trouble on the first day of classes. He would definitely find out if she got kicked out of this class, and there was no telling what he would do to her. "Please don't tell my father ma-am, and please don't kick me out of your class. I know my behavior has been atrocious, but I'll fix it. Give me a second chance and I promise to behave. You can even give me detention and extra homework if you want too. If I don't behave perfectly then you can kick me out of your class and tell my father, but please give me one more chance." Kathryn knew she sounded pathetic, but she couldn't help it. She really didn't like Care of Magical Creatures, and she really didn't want her father finding out about this. They had been head to head a few times, but Kathryn was still Kathryn when she was facing her livid father. Any livid adult for that matter. With that thought Kathryn started crying. She wiped at the tears trying to get them too stop, but she just couldn't help it. "I'm sorry ma-am. I really am. It won't happen again." The old Kathryn would have been blubbering uncontrollably. The new Kathryn was close, but she still had a little control. Though tears were falling, they weren't thick, and she could still speak. She really did feel bad for disrespecting this woman, but right now she was also at least slightly proud of herself for keeping herself mostly put together.

Ember Brocksby Ember shook her head at Kathryn and replied, "Miss Yelsah, I had no intention of telling your father about any of this, much less give you detention and extra homework. No, this will merely be a warning to you to learn to respect me and make sure you learn how to watch your mouth around your professors; I know for a fact that not many professors here would tolerate what you said, but I do believe in second chances, so please don't screw it up, for your own good. As for boring work, I don't believe in assigning essays and stuff for homework. Class itself will rarely consist of sitting at your desk for a whole class period merely reading a textbook. As I've explained before, the only reason I assigned this chapter today is because you need to know how to use everything I will give you in the class. Besides that, this class will be as fun as I can possibly make it. I'm not making any promises since you, your classmates, and I may have different definitions of 'fun,' but I will still try my best, okay? Now, keep reading your book; I'm sorry to have taken up so much of your reading time." Ember looked at the clock on the wall and saw that they were more than halfway done with the class. She smiled kindly at Kathryn before turning around and walking back to her desk, hoping that she made a good impression on at least one of her students. Kayleigh Ackerman Kayleigh was glad to be sitting so close to Kathryn since she was able to hear their entire conversation. She was starting to like Professor Brocksby already; any other professor--Yelsah, Blackburn, Zanbrecher, and possibly that Travis guy--would not have been so lenient with Kathryn's quiet outburst. Professor Brocksby was very reasonable and fair and not as quick to condemn as some of the other professors. As for Kathryn...well, maybe she wasn't as far gone into her new personality as Kayleigh thought she was. Kayleigh turned to face Kathryn and gave her an apologetic smile to show that she was sorry Kathryn had gotten in trouble with Professor Brocksby already. Kayleigh turned back in her chair and continued reading the chapter, glad that she was more than halfway done with it. With any luck, she would not have homework to do for this class tonight.

 ~Kathryn J. Yelsah~
Kathryn nodded at this woman gratefully. She wasn't going to punish her all? She suddenly liked this woman a lot better than she had half an hour ago when she had started class. "Thank you ma-am. Thank you so much. You are not like my father. He doesn't believe in second chances, and he always give loads of dull work, and even more homework. I'm sorry I misbehaved, it won't happen again." With that Kathryn launched herself into her work. She'd seen Kayleigh's apologetic look, and gave a half smile. She had managed to wipe the tears away by this point, but she just wasn't feeling like a smile. She couldn't believe she'd already gotten into trouble and it was the first class of the first day, with a new teacher. Kathryn truly felt pretty stupid. By the time the bell rang she was only through about 13 of the 20 page reading assignment, so she knew she now had homework there as well. With a sigh that was only 100th the sound of her ones at the start of the class, Kathryn packed up her things and walked to Transfiguration with Kayleigh. The boys she'd been laughing with were now teasing her for being such a baby, but maybe it was better that way. At least they weren't all over her. Her father would handle them teasing her better than he would flirting with her. It had been good while it had lasted right?
