Are you going to see the movie when it first comes out?
Yes! I can't wait! I'll probably go within the first week of it's release!
Yeah, I'm excited. I'll go see it after a week or two of it's release.
I'm going to see it when it's almost out of theatures so I don't have to fight for a seat.
I'll wait until it comes out on DVD to watch it.
I don't plan to watch it at all.

I think that time was the key issue of the movie, really. Cause if you think about it, Time constraint was why the focus was primarily on Aang and his story, and secondarily Zuko and his story, and third went to Katara and Sokka. And since we had limited time for Katara and Sokka, that meant they got a heck of a lot less character development, which was what this movie was lacking. The pacing was such that we never got time enough to care about characters other than Aang or Zuko, aside from a couple of snippets in the beginning about Katara's mom, their father, Sokka's protectiveness, all before Aang came in and stole the show.

My thought is that it just should have been 2 and a half hours long.

If they'd done that, I'm sure the fans would still want to see it, and they would have been able to develop Katara and Sokka a bit more. I'd personally use the time to include some of Katara's frustrations with bending up to her triumph with it, and even the thing with Pakku. It would have really strengthened her character. For Sokka, I would give him a few more moments and maybe some more one-liners like "It tried to eat me!!", and I would show a little bit more of the Yue/Sokka romance instead of just Katara narrating to us what happened.

Most important, I'd devote more time to actually MAKING IT LOOK LIKE THE TRIO ARE ACTUALLY FRIENDS.

After I started thinking about it when I got home, that was something that really bothered me, the three didn't seem to have any chemistry with each other, they just seemed like they'd banded together out of obligation and duty.

Before I throw myself into another rant about the whole thing, I already wrote out the bulk of my thoughts on the whole thing in my DA Journal.

All being said though, I enjoyed it for what it was, but I very much agree that there is SOOO much room for improvement. Hopefully Shyamalan will listen to the fans and step everything up with the next one. I'm hoping for a longer movie so it doesn't have such a problem with time, which effects everything in the movie.

Ummm By the way.....

Zuko v. Katara at the Northern Water tribe? DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID THAR??? Perhaps Shyamalan is on our ship afterall.

My brother and I read your review and my brother says you described the movie to a 'T.' But strangely, even though though the review wasn't sparkling, I'm curious. I actually think I'll be going to see it, if only to slake my curiosity.

I just came back from seeing the movie. I think I'll go cry myself to sleep now. I'm glad I saw it, though, so now I can say I did. My advice to seeing it: go in there with low expectations. It'll make it better.

I saw the movie and I must say...It could have been worse. Granted, I'm beyond pissed that they completely screwed Katara out of her character developement scenes and everything. No stealing of the scroll, no inspirational speach to the earthbenders (stolen by Aang), no fight with Pakku. They made her weak and pathetic almost. But other than that, I honestly think all the kinks and issues with the move (except for the screwing of the characters) would not have happened if they were allowed more time to produce the movie and to create a longer film. On the plus side (or negative if they take it away again) it looks like there's going to be more zutara to enjoy.

Agreed! Katara got screwed over so badly! It didn't even feel like she was part of the team at times. None of them acted like friends at all. ;_;

The best part of the movie was the part where Zuko turned Katara over after fighting her. Gah, so cute. <3

Although her acting was pretty poor, I thought Yue looked really good. I thought it was a neat affect to have her hair turn black after she gave her life to the Moon Spirit.

But the name prounounciations were horrific! I mean, Aang being called "Ung"? Everytime they said it I cringed. And Iroh being called "Earo". XD

I think I could say more bad stuff about the movie than good, like Uncle's character not being over wieght and Gyotso being a 6 1/2 foot young black guy, but I guess it's better we try and look at this in a positive views. XD

Strangely, the names didn't bother me that much.

the scene with Zuko and Katara after the fight was my favorite too. I also loved the scenes with the blue spirit. I squeed so loud during both parts.

I don't know why, but name mispronounciations always get to me. It's a lame pet peave of mine. XP

I was actually very impressed at the Blue Spirit scene. I could have done without the hair on the mask, but that's such a tiny detail. They did a great job on that whole scene.

Another weird thing that I loved, but most people didn't really notice a whole lot, was the Fire Nation ships. My gosh, they did such a fantastic job on those ships. I was so impressed by them. :3

I was too. Strangely, I also like how they did Appa's saddle. It looks so much more comfortable than the show's version. But I completely wanted to scream when I saw what they did to Katara's necklace.

It's pretty and all, but it's all WRONG!!! scream

I agree! Appa's saddle was very nicely done! I like to look at the little details, and I'm glad someone else noticed them, too! :3

Oh, man. I was so disappointed in the necklace! Not only did it look mediocre, but she didn't even explain the meaning behind it. The whole movie I was hoping that she'd tell the story behind it (and part of me wanted Pakku to notice it), but it never happened. Such poopy. >.>

Another thing that annoyed me (and that annoyed alot of people) was Zuko's scar. Probably the first thing besides casting the characters to be in the movie to flare up the fan base, the scar was lacking to me. It looked alot better from a side view then I expected, but still. The whole point of the scar is that in the first season, we're all like "damn, look at that scar!". By the middle of the second season and through the whole third season, we're suppose to stop noticing the scar and start seeing past that at what a good guy Zuko really is.

I think they altered the scar a bit to make it more realistic, though I think is should have been much harsher so that they could have maintained the realism but still make the scar obvious.

In some shots, it was hard to see the scar. I agree that they should have made it harsher.

My sister bought me a Zuko shirt (from the movie), and even though you can still barley see his scar and that the guy who plays him looks like he was in his late twenties or early thirties, I'm still going to wear it around my college's campus with pride. Why not? I's still Avatar merchandise! XD

I'm fine with how they played the scar down, I think it's more realistic for the medium. But yeah, they could have accentuated it a little more.

And Dev is actually 18-19 years old.

Yeah, I guess they didn't want it too harsh for younger audiences since it was PG. I think the movie would have had more potential is it was PG-13, even if it's based off a kids show. That's what they did with all the Marvel movies and kids still go to see them, so it's not like they'd lose viewes for uping to to PG-13.

They made him look so much older! He had a nice voice, though. #^_^#

Yes he did. I actually like how Zuko came out. About the rating thing, they could have gotten away with a whole lot more even though it was a PG movie. But what evs. I think the rating to action ratio was all on nick.
