skywalkerlover I am too curious about who they would cast for the other characters and what the movie would turn out to be like, even though I havn't read the books. xd *reads spoilers* Ah! My eyes! They burn!!! JK! I read nearly all spoilers....can't help it....plus for some odd reason I know about that guy....well about that plot anyways.....but I don't remember where I got it from.....anywho....I can see how you are wondering how the movie would play out. I bet they would add something made up in there, like how they added monkey girl in the movie, who is way better then Debbie in my not-having-read-the-book idea. gonk I think it would be very awkward but then one of the scenes where Truska is fighting with Crepsley would happen and then I would laugh my butt off! "You mouth says no, but your beard says yes!" ~Crepsley Sorry, I had to add this into my post.... blaugh I love that line! I bet something even more funny would happen if two women were pissed at him..... heart There is one thing I do disagree about. I would take Debbie any day compared to Rebecca. Rebecca is just... ugh I dont like her >.< But anyway, back to the whole Crepsley thing. Theres actually a funny story about that XD My friends and I had a little cosplay party when the DvD came out. We had snacks and stuff like gummy spiders and bat broth but thats beside the point. Well each of us RPd as the characters we were cosplaying as. I was Crepsley, one of my friends was Evra, then Darren, then one came as Arra. Then there was a last minute invite. She made the mistake of coming as Truska. You can see where this is going. If a fight like that in the next movie turns out anywhere near as funny as the fight that happened that night in that RP, then it will be GREAT XDDDDD

skywalkerlover xAshleyxElricx Yeah, I'm a complete noob. XD I personally love the movie. Or should I say I have an appreciation for it. Why? Because I saw it before I read the books. I saw it not knowing about the whole Shanster world I was about to become a part of and thought it was great. XDD I mean the characters were amazing and the whole idea was so orginal. Then I read the books. XD However I still like the movie. Sure I don't agree with some of the things they did, but I like it none the less. I agree complatly with xAshleyxElricx. I too watched the movie before reading the book and I thought it was awsome. I loved Crepsley, Steve and Evra. The whole movie was amaizing. I just started reading the book (im on chapter 5 of the first book. The ONLY reason why I havn't finished the book already [considering it is an easy read] is because I don't actually own the book. The librarys don't have the first book so I am forced to go to indigo every day to read for 5-15 minutes to read the book before I go home.... gonk ) and I already noticed some differences between the book in the movie, like how Darren and Steve actually come across the flier for Cirque du Freak. I am sure that I will find a lot more differences in the movies then in the books but I don't think my opinion about the book will change. Don't start arguing with me about how the books are better, because we all know that books hold a lot more information then movies do. Most movies that are based on a book normally don't contain half the information in the book. The writer/director chooses the key points in the book and uses them in the film. A book just has way too much information. If the whole book was made into a movie with every waking detail then movies would be 3-5 hours long, maybe even longer, which is way too long. Keep that in mind when you critisize movies about how different and how little information the movie had compared to the book. Not everything can be perfect. Another note: If you liked the movie, that is your opinion. If you didn't, then that too is your opinion. I can't change what you think of the movie, but to the ones who dislike the film, at least you got a laugh out of it. biggrin ~ skywalkerlover well that's not my point. my point is yes they grab key points but changed it (not ruining it but making a point) Darren could not flit as a half vampire. he doesn't like coffins. they gave away that Steve was a vampeneze. murlough is not his mentor he has none. he didn't drink from a monkey girl. he couldn't heal wounds with spit. crepsly never fought murlough right after he dug up darren. i could go on for hours but now u see my point as long as everyone else

since I'm majoring in film directing, I shall give my point of view from that perspective.
+ there was only one well-cast person - John C. Reilly. Reilly's expertise attempted to overshadow the weak acting he was surrounded by - to no avail. while he wasn't the handsome Crepsley many like to imagine, Reilly had his personality and world-weariness to a T.
+ the opening sequence was creative and catching. and probably the best part of the movie, too.
+ while the costuming was rich and the sets were semi-elaborate, the CGI was sloppily done, smearing across the scenes in a distasteful way.
+ it's ill-adapted to the book and lacks much of the plot and details needed to make it a success. even though it's a part of a (prospectful) series, a movie should be a complete story in itself. a director, when adapting a series, should always assume that the audience doesn't know that there's more to come. this movie, unfortunately, left audience members hanging - and not on a good note.
+ Paul Weitz was a poor choice of director. he has little to no experience in the world of dark, horror/sci-fi-type movies. and it shows. terribly.
oh, and...
+ really poor publication. the posters and the DVD cover? ugh, gross. they don't look professional or attractive. and what's the deal with putting 'The Vampire's Assistant' as the title? haven't these people seen other movies where the main series title comes first, like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter? and then there's the cheesy font...and... gosh, I could go on forever. basically, it doesn't look good.
all in all, the movie was fun to watch, but missed out on all the potential that the books made available. with such small and relatively undetailed books, a movie had so much creative freedom - freedom that they didn't make much of. give it ten years, and someone better will come along and remake it the way it should have been made in the first place. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, in the meantime, should be stabbed with a stake to ensure it doesn't rise from the grave to spawn another mistake of a movie.

As a graphic design student, as far as the cover and font go, I couldn't agree with you more @_@ But yes i totally agree with everything you've said, you pointed out a lot of things that I missed. ^^ However as far as Casting goes, I mean casting wasn't bad per say, it just wasn't wise. And yes, casting John was the only smart move they made, but I believe Chris did a good job a Darren (for not having any experience in films) I agree with the director when he says that Chris's pure innocence really played in his favor as Darren.

I envy you right now.....because I really want to be a movie director..... scream sweatdrop Just had to say that..... Anywho....I havn't read all the books, but I do agree with you on a lot of levels, but I still think, for people who havn't read the book, or heard of Cirque du Freak, it was an awsome movie. Personally I liked the odd changes they made in the film. To me, I liked some of the things in the book better then the movie, but on the other hand there were some things I liked in the movie that I would have loved to have read in the book. The humor put into the movie was awsome, the acting jy JCR was amaising, and yeah ((right now I am really tired, so I won't go into detail right now....and sorry if some of this post doesn't make any ssence.....))

You see, if they make a sequel, I have NO idea WHERE they will go with it. Since they already started the war, there's really no point to Kurda.
I've actually been discussing this with my friends and there is only ONE way they can save it and explain why things are so different in the books.
If the movie took place AFTER the books were already written.
It would explain why Tiny was so much more involved than in the books, (to make sure things worked out according to plan this time), and it would also explain several lines throughout the movie to a new extent.
"I may write the script, but the characters seem to do as they please." "It's all written down in a book. You do read books, don't you?"
Eh, just a thought.

I think in terms of sequels, they've dug their own grave. I can't see a logical way to make it work.
haha, and thanks for agreeing with me, guys (x I was hoping I wasn't just ranting to myself.
@skywalkerlover: why don't you go to a film school for college, then, and train to be one? (: definitely one of the best professions ever. *cough*besides musical theatre acting.*cough*
