I'm against the Community. In case that wasn't clear in my vote in the proposal. Why are we behaving like pretentious elitist, snobs that can't talk to the common RABBLE that might just have a passing interest in socialist topics?

Straw men are so fun, aren't they! Noone proposes anything of the sort. What is proposed is another guild where more basic stuff can be talked about, with people coming from that guild to here. This would require the mods--at least as implied in the discussions on the topic I have been party to--to post and take an extremely active role in the Community guild

Demon Kagerou
Seriously, if we can't handle them here, there is no revolution. Let's cancel and go get a new hobby.

Not about us handling them, about them handling us. The idea is to have a place that talks about more general questions.

Demon Kagerou
It would be easier for the hardcore people to move to another guild anyway. I know Tank and Gracchvs had/have an orthodox Marxist guild somewhere.
I think it best to do BOTH when activity allows. But for now, we have a few people who are pretty into things, and they fit in here, and we have others who don't post because... they really don't know what to post. Rather than have them lurk, and then just ******** off because there is nothing interesting, I think we should have another guld specifically for them.

Well, I like the idea of broader left/far-left community and I also like the idea of more in-depth communist/socialist discussions. At this stage NCS community seems like it can provide these?

As for the rabble... I AM the rabble. D:

I guess it's in my interest to vote for five... =P I'm good with that if there will be enough people to moderate!

First, that's not a strawman argument. I'm elaborating on my position, not mischaracterizing someone else.

Second, we already HAVE a Community subforum in the guild rarely gets used.

Third, I'm trying to reduce the number of guilds I'm affiliated with because I only spend anytime on a handful. I don't want to deal with redundant ones.

What exactly prevents us from doing that here? Or just do what was proposed, and have a guild thread on the public forum to do that.

Have you asked the lurkers if that's why they lurk? They could just be avoiding you. wink

And I don't see how a Community would accomplish this anyway. Why would anyone be more inclined to post in the Community than here, when it's basically the exact same people?

Why don't we just inject some life into the community sub forum? Get rid of some of the other ones so that it stands out more. Make a sticky somewhere saying "look, you post in this thread if its political, if you want to have a silly discussion about something else, go to the community sub forum".

I hate to play Njal and say "this is how the unwritten rule works" but since our old constitution was deleted, and I've been unable to find it (probably because it's on my old hard drive which is in the closet and can't be connected to my current PC).

The old rule, was that in case of ties, the 5 would vote amongst themselves. So, in order to decide "captain" and "vice-captain" the 5 would vote amongst themselves between Mike and Roy. The other tie is superfluous because both will be awarded moderator status. In any case, I see this council as being transitory, being as we are about to adopt a new constitution which may restructure the functions of mods/captains/etc.

I'm with Rob and Kagerou on the issue of the community.

Going with the precedent sounds fair. Five new mods vote on the top two.

The community guild is not the same as the community subforum. One is for non-political discussions within the NCS, the other is an affiliated guild with a wider membership and a corresponding change in sunject matter.

The problem with having threads like that in the guild is that they will focus on specific points regardless of the intentions of the thread owner because... that is what happens here. Having another guild for those questions means that we can get people used to the theoretical environment before they come here. The problem with having a thread in the guild forum is that it will have to encompass many discussions, and the thread will become dominated by one at a time.

If people are lurking because of me, well, all the more reason to give them a guild where will be nicer to them, eh. 3nodding

That suggestion has merit on its own, but is irrelevent to the question of the NCS Community because the NCS Community isn't for sillyness, but for less intensive, or rather, less specific theory.

This idea is good. If only because I made the same rule independently in my draft constitution!

My vote is for five mods. I'm not sure why we bothered voting for three in the first place. ********. I don't know why we're bothering to vote like this in the first place. It's ******** stupid to cockblock the few members actually interested in helping the Guild because there's no "open" slots.

Also vote for the guild to become the Community. ******** another guild. That's stupid. That means more things that people have to click, more chances for them to get bored and wander away.

Bring them here, treat them right. Make a subforum for Newbies if you have to.
