For me I'm really computer illiterate and probably don't have the program to make the pattern. I use graph paper to sketch out what I want. Then with some chalk draw in my image by hand onto to the canvas. Stopping once in a while with a pen blotting a certain/ or outlining a certain spot that needs special attention. At norm its a small project.
