River suddenly grows very still, though small tremors are still seen snaking through her body like ripples of water under the skin. She pants a little, wisps of her breaths can be seen in the cool night air. She knows he is still here...somewhere, but she cannot seem to pipoint his location. Even now in this agitated state, this thrills her, warms her body that he had cared enough to come here, to watch.

She lifts her blue eyes to the man in front of her, then to the jacket. She crawls towards it hesitantly, yet sensually, as if she was a sleek jungle cat, wounded yet graceful. Her white skin gleams even now, even with the blood staining her shoulder. She snatches the jacket like a greedy child, cradling it to her lithe body almost like a shield. She watches the man carefully, since her slinking along the ground had brought her closer to his postition.

She notes his appearance, his accent, and decides that he means her no harm. However, even the best intentions go terribly wrong. She was a danger to him, even in her weakened state. Her passions were still at their peak...the lingering effects of the moon incessantly coursing through her body. She wanted him, but River knew it would never satisfy her. Only when she had him would she truely sate her hungers. River tries to stand, yet only staggers to the side as her legs refuse to cooperate. She falls to her knees again with a startled "oomph." and begins to shake again.

~You should be able to approach her now...River has already determined that he poses no threat.~

He follows all of her movements, studying and memorizing the tightening of each muscle. He reads her body language like sultry prose. In this moment, he is transformed into a voyeur; he will not take his eyes off of her.

He would consider moving closer, especially because in her wounded state she might be likely to fight like a wolverine. But there are others around. He is happy to remain where he is for now.

He rushes to her side but stops short of touching her fearing another outburst on her part. Very slowly he moves to help her put on his jacket covering her as best he could from the frigid night air. It is now, finally close enough to get a good look at her he notes she is barefoot as well as her dress to be a mess. Still he worries about her wounded shoulder but is unable to get a good look for she covered it before he could. "It's ok poppet" he said in an attempt to calm her further.

"There is nothing here to harm you" this was his attempt at being gallant and protective of what in his eyes was a delicate and frail creature before him. "What's your name?" he asks as he settles on the ground beside her fairly confident that at the very least he she no longer feared him.

She scoots a little further from him, not trusting herself and how near he was. She likes his smell, it reminds her of home for some reason. This made her suddenly melancholy and she shivers again--but not from the cold.

"What is your name strange man? What were you asking the stars? They can't answer you know...they shimmer there bright and gleaming. So cold and heartless, mocking us with glittering light. They will tell you lies...so cruel."

River seems distressed as she babbles this nonsense, angry and afraid of something unseen. She now edges closer to him, her prior mood fading as the cold begins to affect her.

His eyes light up as they tended to as he smiled broadly at the sudden flurry of questions. He knew full well it was much easier to ask than to answer but her curiosity thrilled him deeply, as if some unknown barrier had been lowered ever so slightly. There was something about her, her melodious voice captivated him for a moment and he felt the slightest tingle in his spine. A slight chuckle escapes his lips, making his features brighten all the more, as she, who was bare foot and panting when he first laid eyes on her, call him strange. Yes I suppose we are all a little strange, he thought, looking around he might be the one overdressed for such a place.

"My name is Adrien" he said his accent thick but strangely melodious, " I am a professor." He then looks up at the stars and remembers that he had been stargazing before. Still looking up as if trying to read the heavens he speaks " I ask them to show me all I can learn from them, to shine brightly and steadily whilst I study how they move, I ask them to tell me how old they are and wonder what they have seen or where they have been before shining upon me." He looked down staring in to her eyes once more, his gazing still as pleasant but a little more intense. "But what I ask is not important for you are right they do not answer, at the very least not in words, all I can do is assume and study. But I think that it was never their purpose to answer to the troubles or call of man. They are there to listen nothing more, listen and look and the worlds below them. To be present in this world but never truly part of it." He looked a little sadder now as if that last sentence had truly struck a deep cord in him, but his soft smile had not left his lips.

He listens to the sound of River's voice. He drinks it in and rolls it around. He wants to hear that voice again, in all of its forms. Soft whispers, little gasps, muffled screams... And he wants to hear it vibrating when her throat is close to his ear.

..And then the professor starts talking. Going on and on about the stars. It makes him want to stick his blade through his stomach and carve an L. He has little respect for their kind, those that believe in numbers and constellations, but not God.

But then he decides to listen. He draws nuances of the man from what he is saying. This Adrien calculates, he studies, and he tries to understand the nature of the world. He wonders what Adrien is drawing from his observations about River. He loves how his presence is effecting River, and he wants to listen to this exchange a bit longer....

River listens intently to his words, edging a little closer to his form. They are within touching distance now, and she feels the warmth of his gifts shining through his skin. This makes her angry for some reason, his abilities eluding her senses. She wants to lash out and demand he tell her everything--yet she holds back this impulse by sheer force of will. She instead, peers up at the stars, the tiny light prickling her eyes like icy glass.

"I prefer the moon" River states lightly, dreamily, her vibrant eyes growing soft with reverie. "The warmth and beauty of her light as I danced beneath her watchful eyes. The pull of her song as it whispered over my skin like the softest breeze. She filled me with her glow, her music, embracing me as her pale child--a love to call her own.
I remember that night, that day I was reborn as the moons consort--forever bound to the night."

She smiles then; her pale skin glowing softly as River recalls those blissful memories, forgetting her pain for just a moment.

((Forgive me, but I want to snoop. Natsuki can't get involved in her current location (The Church) and in even if she could, she wouldn't-she's too much of a pacifist when comes to these things.))

Natsuki gazed into her heirloom, an icen looking glass. It had a frosty surface and was enchanted, enabling it to allow the user to spy on something or someone. She was rather worried. She could sense a bit of recklessness in Brother Cameron. She was not prepared to let someone run to their death.

The looking glass glowed a brillant blue and after the shine faded a bit, Natsuki saw Brother Cameron spying on River. She was slightly relieved that he had not striken yet, if he was to strike at all. Perhaps, I judged him too soon. I hope he doen't do something...foolhardy... He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I trust he will not run to his doom. I best respect his privacy... With that, she pocketed the loooking glass and ceased her spying.

((I hope this isn't in the wrong area. Probally not.))

He looked in to the heavens quietly somberly adopting the position he was in earlier and propping himself up on his elbows his looks as if he has understood something, "The half moon shows a face of plaintive sweetness. Ready and poised to wax or wane; A fire of pale desire in incompleteness, Tending to pleasure or to pain:- Lo, while we gaze she rolleth on in fleetness To perfect loss or perfect gain. Half bitterness we know, we know half sweetness; This world is all on wax, on wane: When shall completeness round time's incompleteness, Fulfilling joy, fulfilling pain?- Lo, while we ask, life rolleth on in fleetness To finished loss or finished gain."

He looked at her and fell silent chuckling suddenly. "I am sorry, you reminded me of a long before remembered poem. She is as beautiful as she is ever changing, no too nights does she look the same and even though her cycle is endless it is never truly the same. " He looks in to her eyes, what a contrast, both blue yet his warm and inviting and hers cold and intriguing.

River tilts her head at him, absorbing the lyrical poem he spoke with child-like glee. She suddenly laughs with delight, her haunting voice echoing through the cold night air.

She wraps her arms around him unexpectedly, crushing her lithe body against his in a jubilent display of emotion. "You understand what I speak of then! Do you love her as I do?" She exclaims breathlessly, nuzzling his neck. She inhales his scent deeply, relishing in the aromas of his wool sweater and dark hair. She all but curls up in his lap, suddenly tired and drained. She wants to be held and cradled--her shoulder starting to hurt again. "Please don't leave..." She says softly, a pale hand picking at the material of his heavy sweater. "I don't want to be alone...I am always alone. Always..."

His teeth begin to grind together. Should he warn the professor how vicious she is? Perhaps, but to reveal himself now would be the begining of another fight--one he doesn't want to enter into with so many people around. He can't fight the way he likes to fight with so many eyes on him, discerning the motivations behind his moves.

They speak of the moon... the stars... all the stuff of witchery. In the golden age of the church, they knew what to do with the minions of the devil; they burned them.

He waits, still patient. If she turns aggressive and attacks the man, he will have the justification he needs to haul her off...

His eyes broadened at her sudden and unexpected gesture but he welcomed her in his arms smiling as warmly as before. "Yes I do understand" he said softly, "I guess I do love her as you do," his words took even him by surprise. He did feel a special connection to the heavens but until this very moment he had not expressed it in such a way. "You know there is special day for her coming soon," he trailed off she seemed the type to celebrate the moon in her own way.

Her laugh had triggered something within him, he wanted to protect this beautiful creature in his arms in that very moment. For a moment he dared not move to touch her, fearing, perhaps a little irrationally, that she might once again take offense in it. Slowly he brought his arms around her touching her lightly at first and gradually embracing her in to a tight hug being mindful of her shoulder. "I won't leave, poppet, it's all right, I won't leave" such a promise fallen from his lips with such haste. But he meant it didn't he? He had no intention of leaving her just now. He looked down at her as she clung to him as if out of fear of slipping away. As he appraised her he remembered he did not even know her name. "What's your name? Who has hurt you?"

River sighs with her entire body, snuggling against him like a cold kitten. She shivers a little, torn by desire and the need to be comforted. "River..." She states simply. "My name is River. Always changing, always constant, rushing here and there like a swift snake. Never stays the same. River's too full right now. Filled to the brim with dangerous things..." She sounds haunted, and she sighs again.

River could still sense him somewhere, and she wondered if he would attack without provocation. He was as lost as she was really, yet unable to admit it to himself. Saddness flowed over her in a heavy wave, and it was all she could do to keep from crying. "He's here...Brother Cameron." She whispers against the mans sweater.

((Hmmm....balls in your court Cameron.. "what will you do?"))

(( MMmmmm.... ))

Upon hearing his name, he decides to make his presence known, lest they begin to talk about him...

He doubles back a bit and then comes into view down the road. He looks like he is searching for someone, and when he sees them, his face manifests the expression of having found what he was looking for.

"Good evening," his voice is quiet, and his manner modest, but there is something just under the surface of the calm--exhileration, perhaps? Malice? "My name is Cameron, and I am of the Church." He says this with some authority. The wind moves the dead leaves on the ground, and tugs at the end of his hair. "That woman is mad, sir, and you would do good to leave her well enough alone."

He makes eye contact with River. God, dear God, how he wants to posess her.

"Never fear, for even if the River does overflow, it will steadily drain and come back to it's course, always," his whisper caresses her ear as he tightens his hold on her ever so slightly when he feels her shiver. He looked down at the mess of black on his chest as she spoke again but had not time to reply for no sooner did she speak did he see a man walking down the road. He looks down at her and nods silently a stolen moment of comfort he gave her before addressing the man.

"Good evening" he replies as he begins to stand up, gently lifting River with him as he did so. If she was frightened of this man or at the very least troubled by his presence best she stand before him, equal. He gives this man the same warm smile he gave her and outstretches his hand. His manner absolutely calm he listens to him speak. For a moment he says nothing thinking over his words then raises and eyebrow before he bursts out with laughter."Forgive me, I am rude" he says as his laughter dies down, his face still retaining the smile of someone highly amused. "You are a man of the church as you have so gallantly and proudly stated" he says as he motions to him, them motioning to himself he continues, "yet you make conclusions that I, a man of science have yet to see any trace of." He looks at River slightly then looks back at him, his eyes almost sparkling as they reflect the slight light of the heavens above them. "However I am much more inclined to doubt the word of a man whom makes such accusations to another of whom he know not even his name."
