Smokepaw smiled slightly at her mentor's praise. She had to prove that she could do this...there was nothing that she wanted more than to become a warrior at this moment in time. The apprentice stared into the water, going completely still, watching for the sudden flick of a fish tail under the water...and...there it was! Smokepaw's claw moved so fast that it was a blur, scooping the fish out onto the riverbed. She zipped out and sunk her teeth into its neck, killing it on the spot. She waded back into the water, a little smug, looking for more. Her eyes gleamed.

Streamsoul nearly oozed with pride as her apprentice, effortlessly, it seemed, scooped a fish from the river. Its scaled flashed in the Greenleaf sunlight as it writhed, before Smokepaw delivered the killing bite.
Having clearly seen that Smokepaw could more than handle herself, Streamsoul waded slowly out into the eddying water and gazed into its faintly murky depths. She was quite at home hunting in the shallower parts of the river, and some of the larger fish rested here. She stared at the swaying vegetation, cobalt eyes narrowing in her concentration. Her gaze reflexively darted towards the movements made by a few minnows, then finally found what she was looking for - the lazily waving tail of a fish at rest.
The creature mostly blended in with the bottom; it took Streamsoul a moment to get its absolute location. Once she'd honed in on its position, she slowly raised one blue-grey forepaw out of the water, careful not to make any disturbing ripples. Her paw hovered above the surface for a moment, then quickly shot down into the water. The sheer speed of the movement dragged air beneath the surface, and for a moment, Streamsoul couldn't see her target. Blindly, she finished the move, and felt her claws skitter and then find purchase on the fish's scaly back.
With a hiss of victory, Streamsoul yanked on the fish, securely hooking her claws into its back and hauling it to the surface. It thrashed wildly, confused to be awoken so painfully from its slumber and frantic to escape. Streamsoul noticed, too late, that the fish was a young gar, and as she wrestled with the rather large fish, its sharp teeth scraped across her paw painfully.
Streamsoul yowled, and yanked fiercely with the paw hooked into the fish, bringing it up to her mouth and dealing a crushing bite just above the creature's neck. The heavy plated scales there groaned with the force, then snapped, revealing the pink meat of the fish and sending blood rushing over its greenish scales. It floundered for a few more moments, jaw working uselessly, then laid still.
"Mouse dung," Streamsoul spat, as she took in the row of slashes on her left forepaw. She grudgingly thanked StarClan for the life of the fish, however vexing it was, and carried it back to shore.

Smokepaw looked at her mentor when she let out the yowl of pain, her head shooting up. "Are...you okay?" She mewed, sounding a little like the words were forced. She waded over, looking at the fish they had already gathered. "Good catch.." she murmured, noting that her mentor's fish was larger than her own. Desperate to prove herself, the apprentice got back into the water and searched for more prey with narrowed eyes.

"I'm fine," Streamsoul mewed, a little confused by Smokepaw's tone. The she-cat was further perplexed as Smokepaw eyed her catch, then promptly turned and waded back into the water. She noted that the apprentice had chosen a particularly deep spot; it would be difficult to pull a fish out of there, and easy to lose her footing.
"Be careful, Smokepaw," Streamsoul meowed, hastily licking at her bleeding paw before returning to watching her apprentice. "It may be Greenleaf, but the river still has a current." Streamsoul watched anxiously as the apprentice fished determinedly in the deeper water.

Smokepaw noticed a second before her mentor had said anything- and still, a second too late. She gasped and lost her footing, the current taking her downstream. The apprentice paddled desperately, her hard muscles pulling and shoving to get back onto the gravely bottom...unsuccessfully. She felt her head going under the water, and though she was a RiverClan cat, once in this position she knew that she wasn't coming back out... StarClan, thanks for giving me a great life, she thought. Thank you....

((Hehe... Bait taken. twisted Well, at least it didn't take long for the RP to get interesting wink )) Streamsoul hissed, slashed paw forgotten as she saw her apprentice's head bob under the deeper water. The seal-grey deputy knew she was too small to wade that deeply... why hadn't she stopped her? With two powerful bounds, the she-cat reached the edge of the river and leapt into the water.
She saw the kit's form struggling in vain just beneath the surface, fighting the current. Spreading her toes to cup the water, Streamsoul powered forward. She had almost reached Smokepaw when she lost sight of the little she-cat.
"Smokepaw!" Streamsoul yowled, slowing her pace to try and locate the little she-cat. "Smokepaw! Hold on!"

Blizzardleaf rolled over and blinked her eyes open. Sunlight shone through the rush wall of the den, but it was still nice and cool under the rocky outcrop. One of the good things about being a medicine cat...sleeping in. Blizzardleaf thought, and purred to herself as she rolled up onto her feet.

((;D Fun fun fun.)) Smokepaw thought she heard someone calling her name, but she wasn't sure...it was probably just part of this wonderful dream she was having. Smokepaw's mother appeared before her. The beautiful, dead, jet-black Darkmist. "Mother?" Smokepaw cried. The she-cat looked at her, her brilliant blue eyes soft and gentle. "Smokepaw...you will make it through this. And be nicer to everyone, my sweet baby. You're amazing...I love you." Suddenly, Darkmist whipped her kit's face with her tail violently. "Mom!" Smokepaw cried out again, this time in pain. She was whipped again, and this time, she opened her eyes for real- she took in another gasping breath of water, screeching. "Streamsoul! Help!"

Streamsoul, still valiantly keeping her head above the water, heard over it's rushing gurgle Smokepaw's screeching yowl; "Streamsoul! Help!" Instantly, she she-cat's head whipped to the left, and her eyes pinpointed the source of the noise. Already, Smokepaw was being sucked back under.
With a violent shove of her forepaws, Streamsoul shoved herself higher above the water, and used her tail to switch her directions. Her legs pumped furiously as she swam towards the struggling apprentice. Closing her nose as best she could, the blue-grey she-cat dove, clamping down onto Smokepaw's scruff.
I won't let you go, Streamsoul thought furiously, even as the current snagged mercilessly at her paws. The she-cat thought she could hear, somewhere in the distance, the falls; it spurred her to swim harder towards the shore.
The she-cat closed her cobalt eyes and paddled for all the was worth. Her shoulders groaned with the effort, and her rump was starting to sink beneath the surface. Slowly, surely, the current was pulling her in, hind legs first... No, Streamsoul wailed inwardly, I can't fail. I can't. She kicked laboriously on, but slowly her head was sinking, too...
With her final moments of air, Streamsoul tried to keep Smokepaw above the water. Then they both began to sink, the water like cotton in the she-cat's ears. Darkness gathered in front of her vision as she slowly ran out of breath. She struggled on weakly, then touched bottom with a soft thud.
Yes, the she-cat thought, and she pulled herself and her apprentice forward with this newfound purchase. Almost... there...
Streamsoul broke the surface with a gasp that was muted by Smokepaw's scruff. With great effort, she dragged both herself and the little she-cat onto shore, then dropped her as she staggered and fell to the ground to gasp in lung-fulls of air.
As soon as the darkness had cleared from her vision, Streamsoul hauled herself to her feet to look at Smokepaw. The little apprentice wasn't moving. Her sodden fur was slowly staining the grass into a dark-green halo around her; her fiery amber eyes were squeezed shut. "Smokepaw," Streamsoul rasped, nudging her with a grey paw. "Smokepaw, rouse yourself." Desperately, Streamsoul began rasping her tongue against Smokepaw's fur, rubbing it the wrong way to try to warm and rouse the apprentice.

((After...? Look at the last word in your post)) Smokepaw lied there. She felt like she was out of her body again...but she needed to do what her mother wanted. She needed to live. The apprentice took a deep breath, coughing the water out of her lungs. Smokepaw kept coughing, harder and harder, until all of the water was out. She was now officially exhausted from her struggle with the water, and from her coughing fit. "S...strea....sou..." She mumbled, her bright eyes still closed. Smokepaw's stomach heaved with the effort of even breathing. "Tha...you..." She closed her eyes, forcing her consciousness to stay with her. The cat heaved herself onto her belly, coughing a little more, this time blood.

((hahah, edited 4laugh ))
"Mousedung," Streamsoul spat, as she saw the apprentice coughing up blood. "Gotta... get back to camp." On shaky legs, Streamsoul padded over to Smokepaw and lifted her up. Her muscles burned with the effort, and the warrior gasped in pain as sensation returned to her injured paw, but she simply narrowed her eyes and padded, step by step, towards RiverClan camp.
the blue-grey deputy could almost feel the apprentice's death-grip (forgive the pun) on life as she hung limply in her jaws. Time seemed to slow, and then stand still, almost as if Streamsoul had been plunged back into the river again.
They had been carried to the section of the river that was a straight line to RiverClan camp; Streamsoul thanked StarClan as she saw the camp entrance slowly rise up over the grassy horizon.
Breath rasping through her throat, Streamsoul made it the final foxlengths into camp, then set Smokepaw down as carefully as she could. Taking in a painful gulp of air, Streamsoul yowled, "Blizzardleaf! Please... Smokepaw...!" The world was starting to spin again as Streamsoul yowled desperately for the medicine cat, and her knees began to buckle beneath her.

(( Last post till sunday! Dx )) Brownpaw shot up, a wide grin plastered on his dark face. This is more interesting... he thought to himself, taking a big whiff of the apprentices blood. He the padded silently over to the camp entrace, his eyes locked upon the scene.

Blizzardleaf's ears pricked when she heard her name, and she quickly rushed out of the medicince den. Blizzardleaf eyes widened when she saw Smokepaw and Streamsoul, and she turned to the closest cat.. "Brownpaw! Help Streamsoul to the medicince cat den, and I need you to bring me juniper Berries. They're purple." She mowed sharply before turning her attention to Smokepaw. "Your in camp now, it will be alright" Blizzardleaf soothed the apprentice as she licked her fur the wrong way to get her warm and dry

Lunarstar immediately lept down from her perch and rushed over to the scene. She noticed Smokepaw, soaking wet head to toe, and coughing up blood. Turning to her deputy, she demanded answers, though she was more scared than anything. "Streamsoul. What happened?!" she hissed, looking from cat to cat.

(( I'm going to say Brownpaw brought the berries, 'cause Cheza isn't here for a few days... I hope se doesn't mind sweatdrop ))
Blizzardleaf looked up at her leader. "I know you need to find out what happened, but Streamsoul needs rest." Blizzardleaf meowed, chosing her words carefully. She knew Lunarstar was just trying to help. "Can you get get her to my den?" Brownpaw returned with the berries and Blizzardleaf took them from him, hasily squeezing them with her paws and dripping the juice into Smokepaw's mouth.
